Fashion thrives on innovation, creativity – and sometimes also on coincidences. Thanks to Guido Maria Kretschmer, I now know the story behind Louboutin, I have to share it with you! One of the most famous icons of the shoe world is the red sole by Christian Louboutin. They cost 700 to 2,000 dollars per pair. But who actually came up with the idea? Was it actually Louboutin himself, or did he owe the iconic look to an employee?

The inspiration: A life for shoes

Christian Louboutin was fascinated by shoes and their effect from the very beginning. In his younger years, he dreamed of designing shoes for dancers, inspired by showgirls and their elegant gait. According to the official version, Louboutin came up with the idea of coloring the sole of his high heels red in 1992 when he looked at one of his designs and thought it lacked that certain something. The decisive moment came when an employee painted her nails with red nail polish. Louboutin spontaneously grabbed the bottle and painted the sole of a shoe with it.

However, there are indications that it was not Louboutin himself who came up with the idea, but his employee, who applied the lacquer to the sole on a spontaneous impulse.
