First Plus-Size Cover Model on Playboy: Hayley Hasselhoff

For the first time a curvy model graces a cover of the European Playboy, and in Germany of all places! Hayley Hasselhoff, the younger daughter of actress Pamela Bach and TV star David Hasselhoff. She graces the cover of the May 2021 issue, causing an international sensation. Incidentally, the world’s first Playboy cover as a plus-size model was graced by Fluvia Lacerda in Brazil’s Playboy magazine. In 2017 Molly Constable followed in her footsteps as Curvy Playboy cover girl for American Playboy.

The model was photographed by the internationally renowned German photographer Ellen von Unwerth, who also regularly appears on the TV show Germany’s Next Topmodel and is also a good friend of top model Heidi Klum.

“If there is one thing I would tell my younger self it would be that you are worthy just as you are.” – Hayley Hasselhoff

Female Empowerment: More than just naked skin of the It-Girl

Hayley has a lot more in mind with this cover than just showing off her body positivity and curves. Not only does she want to prove with this cover and the accompanying photo spread in Playboy that plus-size models can be sexy and exciting, she also wants to take a step towards more inclusion and promote the presentation of curvy women – especially in the media.

She is also supported by her father David. In an interview, the model herself said: “He said that he is very proud of me, that I open doors by being the first curvy model on the cover of the German Playboy.” It’s a good thing, then, that her father had a successful career in Germany himself, and was particularly successful here with his music. The connection to Germany seems to have been passed on from father to daughter.

“I want to show other women that it’s okay to feel sexy no matter what size you wear.” – Hayley Hasselhoff

Body positivity and the self-confident handling of her body

Hayley herself says that her relationship with her body has always been, and still is, dependent on her relationship with her mental health. May as “Month of Mental Awareness” seemed just right for bodypositivity and a self-confident approach to one’s own body and its alleged flaws.

Hayley wants to be herself and live out who she is without feeling ashamed or apologetic. She wants her cover to inspire women around the world to face their fears and live a life that is not defined or limited by their bodies. We say: Keep it up Hayley!
