The Braun Silk-épil 9 Flex epilator is a revolution on the market – at least according to the manufacturer. The Silk-épil 9 Flex is the world’s first epilator with a fully flexible head that is supposed to make hair removal effortless. Thanks to Wet & Dry technology, it can also be used in the shower and is water resistant. SensoSmart™ technology is built into the device and operates a pressure control that tells you if you’re applying the ideal pressure for the most efficient epilation. A Micro-Grip tweezer technology with 40 tweezers is designed to keep your skin silky smooth not just for days, but for up to 4 weeks. A shaver and trimmer attachment is included in the set and is said to be suitable for extra sensitive areas like the bikini line or underarms. Packaging & processing: high quality?

The Silk-épil 9 Flex 9100 Beauty Set is delivered in a high-quality cardboard box. On the packaging you will find relevant information for Braun customer service, such as the serial numbers of the devices you have purchased. The individual parts of the set are securely packed and protected from damage caused by shaking. For the later storage of the device, a high-quality storage bag is included, which is, however, quite sensitive to dirt due to its suede look and, depending on the set, does not offer enough space for all attachments. The products are processed quite high quality, but this is relative for the price for some. Especially the attachments of the Face Spa seem partly not too high-quality, quite simple plastic caps and brushes do not seem exclusive, but also not cheap. We would rate the workmanship of the Face Spa as good, the workmanship of the Silk-épil 9 Flex as very good. The design of the products in white-gold is appealing and makes them look noble.

An epilator often sounds like the ultimate means to remove hair thoroughly and especially in the long term. The prejudice that epilation is particularly painful absolutely prevails. We have put the revolutionary on the epilator market under the microscope for you in a practical test, and would like to give you our feedback here. We found out what the Silk-épil 9 Flex can do, how to use it and what results it can produce.

Application Review: How do you use the Silk-épil 9 Flex? Does it cause pain?

Basically, it is often said that epilating is extremely painful. This is not wrong in principle, but every skin reacts differently to such an application. Skin redness or irritation can always occur, but usually disappear over the course of a few hours or overnight with appropriate skin care. Therefore, Braun also recommends the evening application, so that the epilated skin has time to regenerate and recover overnight.

Pain sensitivity is also very subjective, but in general it can be said that every body gets used to epilation. Especially newcomers to epilation are advised to epilate once a week at the beginning, i.e. regularly, in order to reduce the pain sensitivity more and more. In fact, reviews are consistently positive, and all testers recorded a lower and lower pain sensation during epilation over time.

As the Silk-épil 9 Flex is 100% waterproof, it can be used not only on dry skin (dry application), but also in the shower or bathtub. It has been proven that our body’s pain receptors are less sensitive under warm water, which is why we recommend using the device under water, especially for epilation beginners. Initially, however, you will have to endure a certain degree of pain, but we can say: it gets better and easier with each time! Those who struggle through the first applications will be able to use the device more and more pain-free.

Attachments: Epilator, massage, shaver or trimmer – Application

When used on the skin, you can choose between a few different attachments, depending on whether you want to depilate a larger or smaller area. In addition to the epilation attachment, the set also includes a shaving and trimming attachment, which can be used to shave or trim hair electrically. Changing the attachments is done via a click mechanism and is child’s play. You then move over the skin against the direction of hair growth, whereby a bright lamp on the device makes every fine hair visible, making epilation easier even in the evening or in poor light.

Result: Sensitive to the skin, thorough hair removal only after repeated use

Basically, we can say: In hairy areas, a single application of the device is not enough, you have to epilate several times over each area, but after a few passes almost all to all hairs are removed. Especially on sensitive body parts such as armpits or intimate areas, you should initially expect quite intense pain, as the skin and nerves are particularly sensitive here. According to the manufacturer, the epilation lasts up to 4 weeks, but this is largely dependent on how strong the respective hair growth is pronounced, and how smooth or silky you want your skin.

Big plus of the Braun Silk-épil 9 Flex: Injured areas such as crusts or scratches are spared by the device, so unlike with conventional shavers, you can not cut your skin with this epilator or remove crusts involuntarily. The epilator takes a very sensitive approach, protecting the skin and adapting to the curves of the body better than other epilators due to its flexible head. In addition, SensoSmart™ technology with pressure control tells you when you’re pressing too hard while epilating, helping you achieve optimal results.

Addition: Braun Face Spa promises wellness for the face

The Braun Face Spa, which is also included in the set, is not rechargeable with a cable like the Silk-épil 9 Flex, but works via a battery. However, this is included in the scope of delivery. Different cleansing and exfoliating brushes are said to cleanse facial skin more thoroughly than a manual wash, and also refine skin texture with regular use. In addition to the brushes, an epilation attachment can also be purchased for the Face Spa, which can be used to epilate narrow and sensitive areas on the face. Changing the brushes here is also very simple and is done via a click mechanism, and applying the brushes to the face is very comfortable. The motor is loud, but the noise can be faded out quite well after a short acclimatization. You can clean the attachments individually under water.

As with most technical devices, the epilator is constantly evolving. Different user needs require different attachments and features. If you’re not satisfied with the included attachments or want something extra, you can purchase additional attachments for both the Braun Silk-épil 9 Flex and the Face Spa. Additional attachments epilator: Massage attachment for gentle epilation

For the Braun Silk-épil 9 Flex, there are other attachments that are not included in every set, such as an epilating head with massage function for particularly gentle epilation, or a massage attachment made of silicone, which is supposed to revitalize the skin and stimulate regeneration, as well as refine the skin texture. However, it is difficult to purchase these attachments individually, as the products are often sold as a set, especially on Amazon. If you are looking for a specific attachment, you can ask individual retailers.

Face Spa Attachments: Replacement Brushes & Epilator Attachment

Just like the Braun Silk-épil 9 Flex, the same applies here: Different attachments and brushes for different needs. The FaceSpa can also be equipped with an epilation head, but this is currently not available individually. The cleansing and exfoliating brushes can be purchased separately, however, as the manufacturer also recommends that the brushes be replaced regularly for hygienic reasons (approx. every 3 months).
