The Gulfstream G650ER is more than just an airplane – it is the symbol of freedom of movement at the highest level. With a range of over 13,000 kilometers and a cruising speed close to Mach 0.9, it is one of the fastest and most far-reaching private jets in the world. Kim Kardashian, Oprah Winfrey, Elon Musk: anyone who flies in the absolute upper class often flies Gulfstream. We show what makes this aircraft so special – and who it attracts on board. We have summarized more about the world’s most popular luxury brands – from fashion to private jets to superyachts – in our large overview.

Gulfstream G650ER: Technical superlatives

The Gulfstream G650ER – the “ER” stands for “Extended Range” – entered service in 2014 and revolutionized the private jet market. Powered by two Rolls-Royce BR725 engines, it reaches a top speed of Mach 0.925 – faster than any commercial passenger aircraft in regular service. The cabin offers space for up to 19 passengers and is fully customizable: from private sleeping cabins to offices and conference rooms.

New price: around 75 million US dollars. Annual operating costs: 3 to 5 million dollars for crew, maintenance, fuel and hangar. The Gulfstream G650ER is the reference model against which all other ultra-long-range jets are measured.

Kim Kardashian and her “Kim Air”

Kim Kardashian is the most famous G650ER owner in the world. She has furnished her jet with cream-colored leather, cashmere blankets and custom-made seats – and affectionately named it “Kim Air”. The cabin is more like a flying penthouse than a means of transportation.

Kim Kardashian is regularly criticized for her private jet use. The environmental organization atmosfair calculated that her jet emits over 4,000 tons of CO₂ every year. Kardashian counters this: she and her family offset all their flights through climate protection projects.

Other prominent G650ER owners

Oprah Winfrey: Uses her Gulfstream G650ER for humanitarian missions as well as private trips – one of the most flown celebrity jets worldwide

Elon Musk: Owns a Gulfstream G650, among other things – his flights were publicly tracked and controversially discussed

Mark Zuckerberg: Flies both a Gulfstream G500 and a G650ER – the Meta founder is known for very frequent short flights

Cristiano Ronaldo: Flies a Gulfstream G200 – one of the few top athletes with his own private jet

Charter a Gulfstream G650ER: How much does a flight cost?

If you don’t want to buy your own jet for 75 million dollars, you can rent a private jet. Charter flights in the Gulfstream G650ER or comparable ultra-long-range jets can be booked on the open market:

Frankfurt-Dubai route (approx. 5,000 km): from approx. 35,000 € in the heavy jet segment

Munich-New York route (approx. 8,000 km): from approx. €75,000 for the transatlantic flight

Europe short-haul routes (light jet, 4-6 pax): from approx. €5,500 – ideal for weekend trips to Paris, Monaco or Milan

Current availability and prices for all jet classes can be found directly in the private jet comparison on privatejets.one.

Conclusion: Why the G650ER is the undisputed king

The Gulfstream G650ER is faster, further and more luxurious than almost any of its competitors. It connects any point on earth with any other – non-stop, on its own schedule. It is no coincidence that stars like Kim Kardashian, Oprah and Elon Musk see it as their vehicle of choice. It is simply the best the market has to offer.

Travel Gadgets – If you love vacations and long-distance travel as much as we do, you probably already have a few tips & tricks on how to make your time on the plane as enjoyable as possible. Whether you’re a seasoned jetsetter or a first-time flyer, a well-planned plane trip can make the difference between a smooth journey and a stressful odyssey.

Cushions, footrests, adapters: the best gadgets

Never before have more people used airplanes than this year. Everyone likes to travel and air travel is becoming more and more popular. But many don’t think about other useful gadgets for the flight besides buying high-quality suitcases. Whether it’s maximizing your comfort on board, preparing for unforeseen situations, or simply getting the most out of your flying experience, we’ve compiled a list of helpful products to make your next flight as enjoyable as possible.

Salt water nasal spray

Did you know that the humidity in flight cabins is often as low as 10 percent? This is mainly due to the combination of low air pressure and extremely low temperatures outside the aircraft. As a result of this low humidity, both the skin and mucous membranes, including those in the nose, can dry out.

This dryness can weaken the body’s natural defense mechanisms, especially in an environment where many people are together in a confined space. It also creates an opportunity for various viral pathogens to thrive. To take care of yourself while traveling, you should regularly use a nasal spray with a salt water solution on long flights, such as a flight to New York. This helps to keep the nasal mucosa sufficiently moisturized.

Powerbank

On an airplane, there is usually a power outlet where you can charge your cell phone and other devices. However, in waiting areas or during transfers, e.g. by bus, the situation can be different. Therefore, it is always a good idea to have a powerbank with you. Note, however, that you can’t pack a powerbank in your checked luggage. Because only in your hand luggage you can react quickly in case of a short circuit. To be sure that your powerbank is allowed, you should check with your airline beforehand about the specific regulations.

Universal adapter

If you find yourself in a foreign country during a layover and need to charge your cell phone, camera, laptop, and other devices, you may run into the frustrating situation of your plug not fitting into the outlet. In such cases, a universal adapter can be a lifesaver. It is also useful to have one in certain accommodations abroad.

Chewing gum against ear pressure

The pressure fluctuations during flight can lead to overpressure or underpressure in air-filled body cavities such as the ear, which can be uncomfortable and clearly noticeable during descent. However, this problem can usually be remedied by swallowing, exhaling forcefully with closed lips and nose, or chewing gum.

E-book or tablet

The number one rule for long trips is to not get bored, but sometimes that’s not so easy. Once dinner is over and you realize you’ve already watched all the movies on the in-flight entertainment system, you quickly run out of options. It’s a different story if you have an e-book or tablet, which are among the most important gadgets for the plane.

These small electronic devices allow you to load countless books and games in advance and access them offline during the flight. This is especially beneficial for avid readers, as you can carry numerous books without taking up extra space in your luggage. Moreover, e-books have a matte screen that offers a reading experience similar to that of a real book. So you’re guaranteed to be entertained throughout the flight.

Neck pillow and sleep mask

To ensure a restful sleep on a long flight and make the most of your vacation destination, consider these helpful gadgets: An inflatable neck pillow: This u-shaped pillow is easy to stow in your carry-on and inflate when needed. It’s especially beneficial if you have an aisle seat. It allows you to rest your head comfortably and relax, even in a potentially uncomfortable sitting position.

A sleeping mask for the eyes: The neck pillow in combination with a sleeping mask is an ideal combination. The sleep mask not only provides darkness and thus better sleep, but also a sense of privacy by shielding your eyes from unwanted glances.

Headphones or earplugs

The noise-canceling headphones are equipped with noise cancellation that effectively suppresses loud machine noise. These headphones are useful not only for air travel, but also perfect for undisturbed reading in cafes or at the airport. We recommend in-ear headphones as they are compact and comfortable. However, it is highly recommended to bring your own headphones, as they often offer better quality than those provided by the airlines. If you don’t want to spend too much money, earplugs can be a good alternative.

Inflatable footrest

The inflatable footrest is an ideal travel pillow. It can be used on planes, cars, trains or buses, adapting to any situation and providing much needed support for your legs. This pillow is especially beneficial for people with short legs on long flights and relieves discomfort. Thanks to the adjustable height, it is suitable for everyone. The soft coating of the pillow is comfortable for your feet and can be easily removed and washed when needed. In addition, its compact design makes it easy to store, saving valuable space.

Smartphone holder

The smartphone holder is versatile and can be attached to various surfaces such as airplane seats, tables, shelves, cabinets, beds, treadmills, train or bus seats. It’s compact and convenient for travel, especially on airplanes, as it lets you enjoy YouTube, Instagram or movies without having to hold your phone in your hand all the time. The adapter can be adjusted to your preferred angle for comfortable in-flight entertainment.

Air travel made easy: Never stress on the plane again

With these indispensable travel companions in your luggage, you can now start your next flight full of anticipation and well prepared. Here you can find a useful table, with all the gadgets and their advantages summarized:

I have told you about the first days in detail, in the article my first dog. Hard to believe, but true, Pomeranians remain just as cute as they were when they were puppies. Want to prepare for the first few months with your dog? Then learn what to do after the first few weeks here! My experiences and tips on walking, housetraining, food times, low barking, off-leash walking, giving commands – part 2 of the guide for little Pomeranians.

1 year with Peppa (Pomeranian): My experiences

Let’s start with the basics first:

You’ll get used to each other, get used to each other, become a team…

Always remain patient and calm – dogs become like their owners, be a role model

Listen along with Zoe:

First of all, your dog is affectionate as a little puppy and even later. My dwarf puppy looks at me virtually every minute, with a questioning look, what are we doing? But, it’s getting a little less.

You and your dog are always more confident together!

In the beginning she ran into my legs so often, sometimes I kicked her away slightly by mistake, that’s quite “normal” in the beginning. You have to get used to each other first! The important thing is:

Always stay patient with your dog!

Above all, it is important to go out regularly so that your dog becomes house-trained, to feed him regularly and to always have fresh water at the bowl and on the way (for more than 1 hour).

In this article, you’ll learn what to expect after the first few weeks!

Let’s start simple, with the most important, feed 2x a day.

Tip. Part 1: The first weeks with a Miniature Spitz

From a small puppy to a full-grown dwarf Spitz. Already in part 1 I took you into the (for me) new world of dogs. In part 1 it was mainly about the first days and weeks, the basic equipment for puppies and much more. Read here everything about our first weeks together:

Midget

So small and cute, “Peppa” was as a puppy – Before.

So small and cute, she still is – After.

That’s how fast a Pomeranian grows up, or rather becomes full grown.

Dog food: Delicious, healthy and… how often?

The big, or rather small advantage of the Miniature Spitz, you need relatively little food! I always have a little dry food, wet food and of course a few (few) snacks. If you know the classic Caesar can, then it lasts about three days, with some additional dry food.

My little dog is fed twice a day, in the beginning I fed her three times a day, that was too much!

So she doesn’t do much in the evenings (topic: housetraining) I feed her 1) in the morning and 2) at noon/afternoon.

Zum! This here even more on the subject

Dry and wet food

1) morning and 2) noon/afternoon

Few snacks (if, 90% to chew)

Important: Always provide water

Tip. Buy snacks to chew

Dogs love to chew, it’s fun for them and a distraction at the same time. That’s why I like to buy chew sticks or snacks that keep her a little busy.

Snacks to chew

Occupation and fun

How much does an adult dwarf spitz weigh?

Depending on whether your Pomeranian is purebred or not, the weight will differ. My little one is purebred and only weighs 2.2 kilos when full grown. So she is actually more fur than dog!

Approximately 2.2 kilogram

Purebred

Dry food, water, the basics.

Always good: something to chew on!

This also brings us directly to an important question, for new dog owners:

Travelling with a dog: train and plane

What about when you travel? Can your dog come with you and if so, with whom?

Can I take a Miniature Pomeranian with me on the plane?

Yes and no, sometimes you can take very small dogs on planes. But you should check beforehand if the airline allows it or not. For example, some airlines only allow assistance dogs (e.g. guide dogs).

Airline examples:

Ryanair – no dogs allowed (only companion dogs)

Euro Wings – Dogs allowed

Can I take a Miniature Pomeranian with me on the ICE / train?

Yes, dogs are allowed on trains, but also on long-distance trains (ICE). Theoretically, it means that you need a dog box. But so far no one has approached me. Whereas I have bought a box. However, the pullover on the seat or on the floor is often the easier alternative.

The dog is so small that really no escort has said anything yet.

Yes, dogs are allowed on the train

Not Peppa, but cute too! With dog on the beach:

Housebroken: How long does it take?

You are a dog is really housebroken, you need to bring a lot of patience. About 6, 7 to 9 months until he or she really understands that you do not do in the apartment. Especially not on the carpet! If your carpet does get a fair amount, you’re going to need a carpet cleaning. Because it smells! Tips on that in a moment.

#reallife

That’s why it’s so important not to just buy dogs or give them away. You really have to think about it, they need a lot of time, love and attention. What that means, you learn again here Dog as a pet: Requirements.

Going outside regularly: teaching “doing outside

Often your dog needs to feed especially after meals. Therefore, it is important to feed at noon / afternoon. Then in the evening, only minimal (eg 1 snack). This way your dog does not have to go to the toilet at night and you have less dirt in the apartment.

My tips:

Duration: 6 to 9 months

Important: Get out 3x a day, regularly

Times: Morning, noon/afternoon and night.

Puppy Pads: Tip for your home and carpets

Tips for flats! Buy Puppy Pads So to speak flat diapers for the floor. Kind of like paper, about 50 by 50 inches, you just lay it on the floor. The paper is absorbent.

Diaper for the floor

Ca 50 x 50 cm

Absorbent

How much does carpet cleaning cost?

My whole apartment has carpets – inconvenient! Accordingly, the first few months have left their mark on the floor. Maybe you’ll find yourself in the same situation! So here are my tips to help you find a good carpet cleaning company. Because, a bit like locksmiths, what does a good, reputable carpet cleaning cost and how do you find a good company?

First: Avoid clicking on the first places in the search results. On the first places you will find 99% ads. These results are minimally marked by “ad”. Because, someone has to pay for these ads, you!

Get at least four comparative offers, so you can get the best price. Of course, the price is not everything, the quality is also important, after all, it’s your own home. For that, be sure to check out Google reviews. Compare the amount of reviews and the amount of the average rating.

If you live in the big city, question not only the few shops in the city center, question also in the suburbs or slightly outside. Here the rents are cheaper, the wages, accordingly, the costs for you are somewhat lower.

Here again all savings tips summarized:

Do not click on ads on Google (first results)

Price comparison: Obtain at least 4 comparative offers

Experiences: Compare Google reviews (amount and average)

Suburban companies, smaller towns

Make a fixed price in advance

Walk him: How often do you have to go out?

Let’s get to walking and (importantly for me) off-leash walking.

How far does a little pygmy run?

In fact, you can’t do long, extended jogging runs with a Miniature Spitz. Usually 2, maximum 3 km are enough, then your little doggie is already pretty knocked out! I myself usually just run a little in the neighbourhood, maybe 400, 500 metres to the nearest café and back.

The easiest way to tell that your dog is exhausted is that he really doesn’t want to run anymore and lies down on the floor. From my experience you should not sneak your dog after you, if necessary carry her a few meters, until home or give him enough time, perhaps a snack and some water to recover.

Important: Don’t tug your little puppy just because he or she doesn’t want to. When they have energy, they run all by themselves.

To recap, walk:

I run an average of 400, 500 meters

2-3 km distance is enough

If your dog consistently lies down, wear him or her

So often overlooked: Small dogs

Here is a little tip, if you have your first dog! Especially in the first weeks and months, it can happen that your dog runs into your feet, you accidentally step on your dog, of course only slightly, e.g. when getting up from a chair, while you are careless.

Don’t worry, you’re getting more careful and sensitive.

At some point, you’ll automatically look at the floor before you get up from the chair. Just a little example! It’s the same with your dog, you both get to know each other better and better. Little by little you notice that you can walk further and further distances and that your dog follows you better and better.

Especially in the big city a real issue! For example, I always have a cappuccino with me, mobile phone in hand…. in the first weeks you are sometimes a little annoyed, that’s quite normal! Suddenly your dog jumps into the street, a leaf is chased after (cappuccino spilled), or even the hunt, for the next pigeon.

After 4, 5 months, you already know automatically what your dog reacts to. After 9 or 10 months at the latest, you’ll be really well attuned to each other!

Running without a leash: How to learn?

Running off leash is such an issue, especially in the big city! If you want to walk off-leash with your Miniature Spitz, be aware, even if your dog is super cute, it is and always will be a dog! Accordingly, you can trust him and her, with a little training and practice.

How does my dog learn to walk without a leash?

We started our training in the park, here we have a lot of space, green meadow and if necessary I can run behind!

Learning to walk without a leash: This is how it works

Just always make sure you keep your dog in sight and teach him or her to come towards you when you interact with her. E.g. by a whistle or a certain command, I always say “Peppa (her name), come”.

Also, always make sure you are the alpha dog:

Your dog follows you, not you the dog – stay consistent

Sometimes you just have to run 20, 30 meters ahead, your dog will follow you almost automatically. If not, immediately give “command” and make sure that “something happens”. Either your dog comes or you go, take her with you (on a collar, leash or by talking to her). The important thing is: your dog follows.

The more often he or she does this, the greater the learning success and automaticity.

Repetition and attention for learning success

Running without a leash is like us: when we learn the guitar, a new language or a new sport. The more training, the more proficient we are! So if you run off-leash regularly, even for a few stretches, your dog will get used to it. Accordingly, your teamwork will become more and more harmonious.

Maybe as a tip, I never work with treats. Dogs are pack animals and accordingly you should be a strong and good “role model”. Then everything works, even without treats.

But treats can help with training, e.g. for sit, down and so on. But I’ll show you in a moment how your dog learns commands like “fetch” and “search” quickly, even without a single treat.

This is the fastest way for your dog to learn to walk off leash:

Search for open space, ideally in park or similar (few dangers)

Walk slowly in front, looking mostly in the direction of the target

Moving forward consistently

Stay alert when dog calls 2, 3 meters away

Unify calls: I whistle (softly) and have the command “Peppa come”

Toys: What does a Miniature Spitz need?

Just like with snacks, I keep it the same with toys, less is more! In fact, my dog has only 2, 3 (of 6) toys that she likes to play with. My little tip, it’s best to go directly to the pet store and see what your dog reacts to. So you can directly find a good toy that your dwarf dog will enjoy.

It is much more important that you spend time with your dog! Go out into the countryside, onto the meadow, if possible into the park and into the forest. That’s what your dog enjoys the most!

Maximum 5 toys

Rather: spend time with the dog, go to the countryside

Playing with leaves, with sticks, with other dogs, all better than another “plastic piece” in the apartment.

Learn commands: Fetch, Bring, Search, Sit!

A good start, are always simple things. PS: Super handy is “Search”, that saves you time too!

One of the first commands Peppa learned was “fetch” and “bring.”

“Learn “Get” and “Bring

1 command would be enough, I just always call both. Typical example: fetching sticks. Works great in the city apartment too though. Just work with the favorite toy. Communication is the key. Always think simple and with enough repetition. If you want to teach your dog these commands.

“Learn to “fetch” and “bring”, checklist in 5 steps:

Take a toy that your dog knows (term) and likes

Just throw the toy away, e.g. in the apartment, 4, 5 meters in the hallway

Say “fetch” or “bring” with several repetitions.

Look at the toy again and again at the same time

…

After 5-10 seconds you run to the toy

Repeat this a few times. Your dog will eventually understand what to do.

So, if you repeat this exercise a few times, eventually a dog will run, get his toy and bring it back to you. After that, as a reward, just clap your hands (for example) and praise your dog by name.

Learn “Search”

It’s the same with “search”, it worked for me right after the third time. Her favorite toy is a bone. Accordingly, I simply said “Find the bone”, “Find the bone”!

Tip. “Search” is mega handy + also saves you time

Super handy because now I can also just say “find the bone” if I don’t know where it is, she’ll take me there!

“Learn to search” checklist in 4 steps:

Take a toy that your dog knows (term) and likes

Tell your dog, “Find the bone” (or what he, she knows).

Repeat the command several times

…

Again after 5-10 seconds, you run and go to the toy

For me it worked directly the third time! I even thought she wanted to feed, because she ran into the kitchen, but the bone was on the table! Therefore, super practical.

This is followed, as always, by a nice gesture, e.g. just clap your hands and praise your dog. As almost always, I work without snacks.

Much better than eating a lot, just to the all-natural play instinct!

Learn “Place”

A small, dear bribe, in the form of a treat, but there was when learning “place”. As always, it is important to stand quietly in front of your dog or kneel down and repeat the command several times. You can also gently help and push the butt down a bit so your dog understands what you want him to do. Through the snack he or she learns very quickly that it is worthwhile to perform this action.

“Learn to “sit” (with treats), checklist in 3 steps:

Prepare snack, take in hand

Saying place several times (repetition is always important)

The first time slightly help, Po Samst press down

Stay consistent, only with place there are treats

Tip. Also make sure that your dog remains seated while he or she gets the treat. This way your dog learns to be calm and not to jump frantically back and forth as soon as food is available.

Dog groomer: fur, fur, fur!

For fur care & Co., I have for you once again extra guide, with tips from the pros, my dog groomer. Tip! I never cut the fur of my Pomeranian super short. It looks cute, but fur is there for a reason and we shouldn’t think of it as a “hairstyle”. That’s why we pretty much only have “tip trims”. Read more here:

Norway on the map: Scandinavia

Here you can see Norway on the map. The country borders Sweden and is located in the north of Europe, which can be commonly called Scandinavia.

Getting there: What you should know before your vacation

Before you travel to Norway, there are a few things you should know. It is important to know that Norway has kept the Norwegian Krone (NOK) as currency. So you will need to change your currency before you can relax on holiday. Although credit and debit cards are accepted almost everywhere, in the smaller, more rural provinces you should always carry some cash for emergencies.

Climate: From temperate to polar climate

Furthermore, you should know about the weather in Norway. The country has a temperate climate in many regions that can be visited all year round. However, many areas should rather be visited in summer, as winter is very dark and gloomy and light rarely comes through.

West: lake climate; high precipitation rate, cool summers and mild winters

East: dry climate; cold winters, warmer summers

North: Polar climate; No sun in winter

Here you will find a current overview of the weather in Norway:

Facts: What else you should know about the country

In Norway there is right-hand traffic

Norway has a very high cost of living

There is a very well developed internet network in Norway

Alcohol may only be purchased from 18, spirits from 20

Oslo: City trip to the capital

Norway’s capital Oslo is located on the south coast of the country and is characterized by culture and green spaces. Due to a variety of museums, the city is always worth a trip, both in good and bad weather. In the city centre you will find historical buildings and a super shopping mile that invites you to stroll around. The numerous restaurants invite you to try freshly caught fish and on the peninsula bordering the city you can even find real Viking ships from the 9th century!

Bergen: holiday resort and metropolis

Bergen is the second largest city in Norway and just as worth seeing as Oslo. What is special about Bergen? The city is located in a valley, surrounded by seven mountains, whose peaks offer a beautiful view over the city. Here you can go hiking or skiing. Sport is not your thing? No problem, the funicular Fløibanen takes you to the viewing plateau of Fløyen.

Bergen is also the gateway to Norway’s largest and most famous fjords, which are a real must-see. As well as stunning nature, Bergen boasts beautiful, colourful wooden houses and winding streets that are home to a strong music scene and many famous composers such as Edvard Hagerup Grieg.

Map from fjord to fjord

First of all – a fjord is an arm of the sea that reaches far into the country. The Hardangerfjord, the Trolltunga and the Sognefjord are the three largest fjords in Norway. Bergen lies right in between them, making it the perfect starting point for a tour through the Norwegian wilderness, towards the fjords. Our insider tip: The fjord village Flåm is located northeast above Bergen and offers a wonderful idyllic and homely atmosphere. If you have a lot of time, you can take the Flåm Railway, which is considered one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world.

360° view over the Sognefjord

This breathtaking fjord is not only the largest in Norway, it is also the longest and deepest fjord in Europe. Other, smaller side arms lead away from it, which in turn flow into smaller fjords.

Lofoten: Island hopping in Norway

The Lofoten Islands offer natural spectacles at their best. During the long winter months you can marvel at the fascinating northern lights. In summer, on the other hand, it never gets dark, not even at night! Especially outdoor fans will love these islands, as the unique landscape between mountains, small villages and the sea invites you to explore and hike. Due to the relatively mild climate, despite the northern location, the Lofoten Islands are considered a year-round destination, as you can experience the islands in winter as well as in summer in a very special way.

Map: The Lofoten Islands in the North of Norway

The Lofoten Islands are part of the large archipelago in northern Norway and comprise the western section of the archipelago. The individual islands are connected by bridges, which make it easy to explore the entire region. Despite the many bridges, the region can only be approached by water or by air. For those who want to make the journey a destination, take the famous Hurtigruten route along Norway’s Atlantic coast by ship, which offers spectacular views of Norway’s landscape.

Reine: Idyllic village on the Lofoten Islands

Reine is a small fishing village on the east side of the Lofoten Islands. Besides the typical Norwegian red wooden houses, you can experience all kinds of things here. Especially photographers will get their money’s worth here in the early morning hours, when the rising sun bathes the mountains and the water in a magical light. Hikers can fulfil themselves on the Reineberg, from the top of which you have a breathtaking view over the village and the sea. You are not a professional mountain climber? No problem, on the mountain leads the so-called Sherpa stairs, which facilitate the ascent.

Holiday with animals – The holiday is coming up und people are looking forward to sun, sea and relaxation. Soon one would lie carefree on the beach and relax, there remains only one problem; without one’s beloved pet one does not want to travel. What possibilities are left for you? Can the four-legged best friend come along? Where is he wanted and where not? We have selected all the important information about holidays with pets, so that holidays are no longer a problem for pet owners.

Animals in hotels & holiday flats – is that possible?!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pL075zohAsU

Are animals absolutely forbidden in all accommodations? No – there are many exceptions that allow a holiday with your pet. Many accommodations have no problem with animals up to a certain weight or species. You can find out which accommodation is best suited for you and your pet here.

Holiday with pets in hotel complexes: little exercise, what to do?

Many already know that dogs and cats are not welcome in many hotels. Partly there are hotels that allow animals up to a certain weight. What makes the search for an animal-friendly hotel much easier is the function that lets you filter for animal-friendly hotels on many booking portals. Thus, one can easily find a hotel in one’s desired region that is adapted to one’s own needs. There are also own portals like hundehotel.info or tierischer-urlaub.com, which explicitly offer animal-friendly hotels. Please note: in many dog hotels leashes are compulsory. Where can you take your four-legged friend for a walk on holiday? Here are our tips for walks during a hotel holiday:

Look for a park nearby, best with Google Maps, there you have an overview of the whole city

In the morning at the pool, tip: this way you are the first one there and you can throw your towel directly onto the couch, it is already yours!

Jogging on the beach with your best friend – this keeps you fit and gives your dog enough space to run around

Place and nature: holiday flat and holiday homes

Whether in the mountains, by the sea or in the country – it is not difficult to find a holiday apartment or a holiday home in which four-legged friends are allowed. There are more holiday flats and houses than hotels which have no problem with animals, because often the landlords of the flat are owners of pets themselves. There are special booking portals for holiday flats for guests with pets, just like for hotels, and the four-legged friend is usually allowed to stay in the room, but not in bed. So you should think about the basket. You still have to ask yourself where is the best place to spend a holiday with your pet? FIV Magazine has listed the top holiday destinations for you:

Top vacation spots – with & without pets!

Turkish Riviera, Antalya, Turkey

Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, Spain

Crete, Greece

Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain

Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain

Rhodes, Greece

Faro & the Algarve

Are service dogs allowed in hotels, guesthouses and rental apartments?

Service dogs or also assistance dogs, most of them are probably the most common guide dogs, are allowed and desired in almost all hotels, pensions, holiday flats and holiday houses. They are not considered pets, but medical assistance. Just like guide dogs, they are considered necessary, but you should at best be aware of the rules of accommodation beforehand.

Ultimative – Camping with pets: Pure nature for your dog!

Camping is an animal friendly way to travel with your pets. Dogs or cats can easily be transported in a car or motor home and sleep in a tent or motor home. The animals usually have as much fun in nature as we do. The long walks are a good run for our beloved four-legged friends and dogs also have a lot of fun in the sea. To spend the whole day outside is a pleasant change for animals.

Already in the morning you can simply open the door and let the dog storm into nature. When camping near a lake, the puppy can learn to swim and near a forest it is practiced fetching sticks. Man’s best friend wants to be with him everywhere; whether on holiday in the mountains or on the beach. Camping is varied and a real adventure for both owner and pet.

2 of 3 people take their dog with them!

Which animals do you prefer to take on holiday? Most popular, who would have thought it, are dogs! A full 67% have already been on holiday with their dog, i.e. 2 out of 3 respondents! Small animals follow immediately afterwards, from hamster to guinea pig with 47%. Hard to believe, 42% of Germans have already taken their horse on holiday! And 42% did not want to go on holiday or fly without their reptile. I wonder if the snake also had fun at the beach? The fact that only 32% of the Germans took their cat with them on holiday was a little surprising. The little tiger was probably too scared of water for a vacation at the sea. A whole 29% already had their bird or fish on holiday. Whether the own Nemo has got such a “outlet” in the sea?

Dog – 67%

Horse – 42%

Reptile – 42%

Cat – 32%

Fish – 29%

Bird – 29%

Source: Statista / Question: “Which animals have you taken on holiday before?”

Sea and ocean: animals on beach vacation

At the sea there are many possibilities to include the animals in your holiday. Whether playing with the dogs on the water or cuddling with the cat on the beach – animals love beach holidays. It is important to note that many animals cannot cope with hot temperatures. Make sure that your pet drinks enough and takes breaks in the shade.

Here I have some practical tips from my own experience, so the trip into the cool water will be a lot of fun!

If you are a good role model as master or mistress, your dog will be much more relaxed and easy going.

Throw treats into the water – this way the dog is directly rewarded for its courage when it dares to go into the water

Always stay close by – for untrained dogs, playing in the water for a long time can be dangerous, so the master or mistress should definitely always keep an eye on the pet

Get dog out of the water when it is time – whether you lure him closer and closer to the shore with treats or he listens to a signal at which he leaves the water and gets a reward; the dog must come out if you have to go further.

Farm: holiday with pet + cow, pig & Co.

On the farm there are also many possibilities for the pet to romp around or to get in contact with other animals. Many farms also have dogs that take over tasks like protecting the sheep. Since farms are often more remote, there are good opportunities for the animals to run around. In the surrounding wooded areas long walks are possible, for example with dogs, on which they sometimes come into contact with new things. In this way the pet can discover something outside its familiar surroundings.

Traveling with animals: Plane, car & Train

Is a long-distance trip planned, or is the holiday taking place in Germany? Depending on the destination, a different way of travelling is possible. Not every kind of trip is meant for every animal, so we have put together the essential information about travelling by plane, car and train. It is important to inform yourself in advance before you book any accommodation to make sure that your journey will not be a problem. The pet should be comfortable, we also hate seats with not enough legroom. Whether in a transport box or next to the master or mistress – the animal must feel comfortable and should experience as little stress as possible. Many types of travel require that the pets are accustomed to the circumstances in advance. You can find out here how to save your pet stress and make the journey as pleasant as possible!

Flying with animals

Not all airlines allow animals on board. Dogs and cats, as well as rodents and similar animals can often be taken into the cabin or transported in the cargo hold. This depends on the airline. Different airlines have different rules that must be observed, such as minimum age or weight. Above a certain weight the animals are then transported in an air-conditioned cargo hold. It is also important to have a suitable transport box that offers the animal enough space. The dimensions are usually specified by the airline. For dogs, for example, there must always be enough space in the box for food and water, and the animal must be able to move. When transporting animals, costs are usually also incurred, and this should not be lost sight of.

Driving with animals

If the holiday destination is not far away, it is worth going by car. There you will hardly have to pay any additional costs because of the animals. In addition, you can stop and take a break, depending on the need for exercise, so that the long journey is not too much for the animals. The safety of the animals is also important. A suitable transport box is always needed for different animals. Small dogs are strapped in the back seat with special safety belts and larger dogs often find room in the trunk, where they are separated from the passengers with a separating grid and can move freely. Transport boxes offer more protection in the event of an accident, but the animals should be accustomed to the box at home to expose them to less stress.

Travelling with animals

Train travel with your pet is also possible and a cheaper alternative to flying. It is important to inform yourself in advance about the regulations of the railway or train. Small dogs and therefore also cats, rodents and similar animals are allowed free of charge in a small transport box. Larger dogs need a leash and a muzzle and pay half the ticket price. Pets may also meet other animals on the train; ideally this should not be an unfamiliar situation. A train can be crowded, which can be very stressful for the pet. Many strange people, countless different smells and noise – this can quickly overtax a dog. The owner should pay attention to the animal and reward and praise it if it behaves well. A few strokes and treats will make the animal feel more comfortable again. It is important to accustom the animal to the environment with short train rides and to familiarise large dogs with a muzzle, so that train rides do not become an insurmountable hurdle, but an everyday experience.

Animal sitter for the holidays

In any case, the animal cannot come on holiday because it is sick, old or too nervous for holidays? Or there is no suitable accommodation at the dream destination that allows pets? No matter what the reason for failure, an animal sitter is the solution for an animal that cannot travel. There are animal sitters everywhere, often even in the neighbourhood. The person then takes a certain amount of money for the supervision and employment of the animal. They take care of the animal, feed it, take it out when it needs it and replace the owner for a certain period of time. Depending on the animal, it is easier or harder to find an animal sitter, because less demanding animals are of course more readily accepted than highly poisonous snakes, but often you can find the right animal sitter for every animal.

Packing list for a holiday with dog

FIV Magazine has put together a packing list for a holiday with a dog. You may need to complete this list if your pet needs other things or can do without some of them. For example, someone who travels with a parrot needs different things than someone who travels with a cat. This list is only for rough orientation.

Dog basket – Comfortably through the vacation, whether in the car or flight time

blanket – trembling? No way, with your own blankie your dog will always feel comfortable.

Fressnapf – How to make a little bit of a habit in a holiday apartment while on holiday

Drinking bowl – Just like the feeding bowl, it is easier to make the dog feel at home with your own drinking bowl.

Food – There must not be too little food! And finding your favourite food on holiday to buy more can be difficult

treats – The dog should always be rewarded if it behaves well. It saves you a lot of trouble on holiday!

Toys – So the dog does not get bored when the master wants to relax.

Leash – In many hotels the use of leashes is compulsory! So you must not forget the leash in any case.

Muzzle – If you travel by train, you should think of a muzzle

Towels- Many hotels only offer a certain number of towels – so that none are missing, you should have a towel for your dog.

Fur care utensils – fur care must not be neglected even when on holiday

Excrement bags – so you don’t leave your dirt anywhere!

Vaccination passport or EU pet passport – The passport for pets must not be missing

first-aid kit for the dog – so you are prepared for the worst case scenario
