Fashion designer Stefan Eckert
Stefan Eckert is a successful fashion designer from Hamburg. Through his creativity and business skills he managed to turn his passion into a job. He studied at renowned fashion schools and worked for prestigious designers before founding his own label. His store is located in the beautiful city on the Elbe. I talked to the fascinating designer about his creations, his success and the flair of Hamburg.
Stefan’s success: creativity & profitability
FIV: Stefan, you’ve come an impressive way in the fashion industry! What makes you particularly proud?
I think that I have managed to build a profitable and stable business out of my passion. Mastering the balancing act between creativity and profitability is a big challenge, especially in the fashion industry.
FIV: How would you describe your own fashion style?
Very uncomplicated. Mostly leather jacket from my studio with jeans and shirt and Santoni shoes.
FIV: What does fashion mean to you?
Unfortunately, I have only a very limited musical talent myself. Fashion has therefore always been an important part of my communication to express my feelings and moods.
Stefan Eckert about his collections
FIV: What is special about your fashion collections?
I would say that what is special about my pieces in general is the value. I like the idea of creating values that stay. That’s why I really love my leather jackets, for example. They are made of the finest lambskin and are designed to last a lifetime in terms of quality.
FIV: What do you want to convey with your creations?
That it is worth investing in beautiful and valuable things. I can little understand this bargain culture, in which people buy as many things as possible, of which they already know beforehand that they are junk.
Stefan: Hamburg is traditional!
FIV: Your store is located in the beautiful city of Hamburg. How do you connect Hamburg with fashion? What makes Hamburg a fashion city?
Hamburg is not primarily about fashion, but about style, value and consistency.
People like to spend their money on things that are worth it and are convincing in terms of both design and quality for longer than 1-2 seasons.
FIV: How do you see the style and flair of the people in Hamburg?
Hamburg is a very value-oriented and traditional city. What you have built up here will not be washed away by the next hype. The people are open and relaxed and the Hamburg style is correspondingly unagitated. From the outside, everything may seem a little more conservative, which is usually completely different on closer inspection.
Stefan Eckert about his inspirations
FIV: What inspires you personally and as a designer?
I always need music to get in touch with my work and to generate images that I process later. Of course, my personal mood is strongly reflected in this.
FIV: Do you have a fashion role model?
Alexander McQueen inspired me a lot during my training as a tailor. It was a great honour for me to work in his studio later on. That time motivated me to continue to go my own way.
FIV: What can we look forward to in your fashion in the future?
In autumn my first small men’s collection comes, consisting of leather jackets and cashmere/wool coats. For the ladies there are still beautiful new bags in time for the pre-Christmas season.
FIV: Stefan, thank you very much for the interview!
