Preparation & Primer

Before any makeup, it is important to prepare the skin for it. What to look for and what are the best ways to make make-up last longer?

The basis for an even look is a suitable facial cleansing and subsequent moisturizing. This will make your skin glow and your make-up will last better than without such preparation. Make sure you choose the right products for your skin: do you have dry, oily or combination skin? If you’re not sure, you can get a skin analysis done in a beauty studio or store – it’s often free. Before you apply your makeup, make sure your brushes are clean – is there any residue from other eyeshadow colours or is there already too much makeup collecting on my foundation brush or sponge? Then it’s high time for a thorough cleaning! That’s enough every one to two weeks, so that the bacteria don’t collect in the brush and you don’t put them on your skin again every day.

  1. Cleansing of the face with peeling, milk or similar (peeling only about once a week)
  2. Suitable skin care to provide skin with moisture
  3. Regular washing of brushes and sponges to prevent smear infections

Basics for every look

Every make-up look – whether simple or striking – is based on certain basics. These vary from person to person, but the following basics are used most often:

  • Foundation / tinted moisturizer
  • Concealer / Camouflage
  • Powder (pressed or loose)
  • Bronzer
  • Blush
  • Highlighter
  • Eyebrow pencil, gel or powder
  • Eye shadow
  • Eyeliner
  • Eyeliner pencil
  • Mascara
  • Lipliner and lipstick
  • Matching brushes or sponges

Different make-up looks

There are many different looks that you can make up. Whether very simple with only the most necessary products, a good business look, where it may be a little more, or a flashy evening look, which underlines for example a chic dress. It is always type-dependent and a matter of taste, how much or how little make-up you want to wear.

Daily/Business Make-Up Look

A make-up that is suitable for everyday life and should not be too flashy is based on plain and simple colors. No gaudy eye shadow and lipstick, but rather powder, pink and beige tones.

If you want to keep it simple, use for example:

  • Concealer
  • Powder
  • Bronzer
  • Blush
  • Highlighter
  • Eyebrow gel or powder
  • Mascara

For a more striking look in everyday life, you can use additional products:

  • Simple eye shadow in simple tones
  • Plain lipstick
  • Light kohl pencil

Of course, you can create any look you like! Everyday practicality is always in the eye of the beholder, so it’s up to you how much or little you want to use.

Evening / Date Make-Up Look

You’ve got a date and you’re going out for dinner? You feel like going to a party with your friends? Then you can wear something more flashy! Still important: stay true to yourself and don’t dress up. Whether red lips, a beautiful eye make-up, or a perfect eyeliner – with colors that match your outfit, you can conjure up a beautiful look.

Tip: ever heard of brow lifting?

Look for Christmas and New Year’s Eve

For Christmas, it may also be a little more. A shimmering eye make-up or a beautiful red lipstick: that’s just right for this holiday!

There are many makeup palettes where you can find the perfect blend for your eye makeup.

  • The Urban Decay Honey Palette is great for a golden Christmas make-up! From light tones as a base to golden shimmer tones and dark brown tones, it’s all here!
  • If you’re into dark reds and browns and a bit of shimmer, the Zoeva Caramel Melange palette is perfect for a Christmas look with its warm tones.
  • If you’re going for a look with a few splashes of color, the Sephora Feline Instinct Christmas Edition palette is probably a good option for you! You’ll find classic gold tones as well as a few shades of antique pink and rose.
  • If you’re more of a color person, then the Naked Cherry palette would be a great option for a nice Christmas look. There are different shades of red that you can use to create a warm look.

Dos and don’ts

When applying make-up, there are a lot of things to consider: does the colour match the skin tone? Does the foundation have a suitable consistency for my skin? These and even more questions come up again and again. Here you can find out what you should consider in your make-up routine!

Do’s

  • You should always make sure – see the part about preparation – that you apply a proper care under your make-up. This way your make-up will last longer and your face will look more even because your skin is moisturized.
  • Then you should make sure that your make-up matches your skin colour. It should not be too light and not too dark.
  • Besides the color, the consistency also plays a big role: if you want a foundation that is not so heavy on the skin, then go for a more liquid consistency. If you want it to be very opaque and you don’t mind the foundation being a little heavier on the skin, then go for a slightly thicker foundation.
  • You shouldn’t apply a thick layer of everything. It’s enough to apply a normal layer of foundation with some concealer, powder, bronzer, blush and highlighter. But you don’t always need that much – it’s up to you!
