While most people have already retreated to their cozy homes, there are adventurers who see the icy weather as an invitation to take on exciting challenges. These include web video producer Fritz Meinecke, who has tested out camping with a roof tent in sub-zero temperatures and offers practical tips for adventures in the frosty season. Here you will learn how to set up the roof tent, prepare the sleeping area properly for winter and make a warm fire.

Ice-cold challenge: rooftop tent adventure in sub-zero temperatures

The idea was to test the roof tent in cold weather. While summer camping is pleasant, here we are facing really icy temperatures. Many of you may know the survival expert Fritz Meinecke, who became famous through projects such as “7 vs. Wild”. On his YouTube channel, he is dedicated to survival in the wilderness and teaches skills that are also extremely useful when camping. Fritz has even tested a roof tent from iKamper in conditions of -7 °C.

You can take a look at the roof tents from iKamper here:

IKamper roof tent

You can watch the video here:

Winter camping with a roof tent: survival expert shows how it’s done

Despite spending the night in the roof tent, the bushcraft feeling is a must for a survival expert. So Fritz Meinecke makes a nice fire on the side, looks for some wood in the low temperature and introduces the roof tent.

From deadwood to absorbent cotton pads: campfires like a pro

We start with practical tricks for making a fire. While Fritz collects wood, cuts it to size with an axe and then builds a fire, he explains the best way to do this. If you want to make a fire on your next camping trip, you should make sure that you mainly use dry dead wood. Then split it into smaller pieces with an axe and use the driest pieces from the core to make small sticks to start the fire. To do this, strike the end of a smaller piece with your axe to split it.

Tip from Fritz: Make sure you have two bundles of wood sticks ready so that you still have something the next day and don’t have to look for and chop wood as soon as you get up.

In order to have a good fire afterwards, the video also explains how the wood should be stacked. It is best to make a small base from the larger pieces and stack the sticks on top in a square. You can use absorbent cotton pads soaked in wax as tinder to light the fire. The best way to do this is to throw the burning absorbent cotton pad into the middle of the stacked wood.

This checklist will help you keep track of how to make a good fire quickly and easily:

Collecting dry deadwood

Splitting wood with an axe

Making narrower sticks

Base made from larger pieces

Stack the sticks square on top

Light wax-soaked cotton pads

Make provisions & invest wood reserves

Sleeping area: roof tent set-up & cozy furnishings

Once the wood has been chopped, the roof tent can be erected. After quickly opening the hard shell of the tent and unfolding it on the ladder, the tent is ready for the night. The survival expert only needs one or two minutes to do this. Particularly important: remember to pull the carpet pad under the mattress so that you have less moisture in the tent. Then you have the large sleeping area ready and can lie in it just like Fritz.

Let’s move on to preparing the sleeping area. At such low temperatures, you should definitely invest in a good winter sleeping bag, like the one Fritz uses. It should get really cold at night. Add a lantern to the tent for some light and your sleeping area is ready. Fritz also introduces you to some practical storage options that can be attached to the outside of the tent. These include hanging organizers and sliding hooks.

These things are important when pitching the tent and preparing for the night:

Quick tent set-up: Open the hard shell & unfold the tent

Avoid moisture in the tent with the right carpet pad

Comfortable overnight stay in a spacious bedroom

Good winter sleeping bag recommended for cold nights

Hang a lantern in the tent for lighting in the tent

Use hanging organizers & sliding hooks

You can create pleasant lighting with a lantern:

Practical outdoor cooking trick: Homemade tripod

Finally, Fritz makes a tripod out of sticks. He knots a ribbon to one side and then wraps the rest around it. As soon as the tripod is over the fire, he adds a hook made from another piece of wood. Finally, a pot is hung on it and delicious food can be cooked. In Fritz’s case, a lentil soup. But of course you can cook whatever you like. Just make sure that the food has a long shelf life.

Help with cooking: Make your own tripod

Rooftop tents for road trips & short breaks: Recommendation

Even after a wintry night in the roof tent, Fritz realizes that the roof tent is perfect for a weekend overnight stay in the wilderness. He notes that there is a big difference compared to spending the night in a vehicle. It’s difficult to set up in a parking lot somewhere in the city center. But for short vacations and road trips, he would recommend the roof tent. For him, it’s a variable thing, so it’s not something for everyday use that he will always have on the car, but for certain tours, trips and road trips.

Conclusion: Rooftop tent is great for short vacations & road trips

Here we would like to tell you about the fascinating night that the bloggers from the YouTube channel Motorreport experienced in the mountains. You too can learn a lot from this for your next adventures with a roof tent.

Dawn in the mountains: try out rooftop tent camping

What does it actually feel like to be on the road with a roof tent? Imagine it’s early in the morning, the sun is just rising and you’re up at 1,500 meters above sea level – with a roof tent! Sounds like a crazy trip, doesn’t it? Today I want to tell you about the adventure night from the YouTube channel Motorreport in the mountains, where bloggers Anja and Matthias spent the night in an iKamper roof tent for the very first time.

You can find out more about iKamper roof tents here:

IKamper roof tent

You can watch the video here:

On the road in the large version: Skycamp roof tent

The two bloggers had the Škoda Enyaq Coupé as their base vehicle, and on the roof of the car they had a roof tent called the iKamper Skycamp 3.0. As usual with the Skycamp models, the Skycamp 3.0 is available in a Mini Edition and a large version. They had the large version here, which offers space for up to four people. Anja and Matthias slept in it to see how spacious it is.

Tip! You can read more about this roof tent size here: Rooftop tent for 4 people.

Setting up the roof tent: Let the adventure begin!

Anja put up the roof tent for the very first time at the very beginning. To put up the roof, she first had to unlock the eyelets with the key and then fold down the tent. Now they could fold up the roof in pairs. The wind was blowing quite strongly, but the roof almost raised itself. Depending on the dynamic load capacity of the vehicle, the ladder can either be stowed directly on the roof tent or in the trunk. In the video, it was stowed in the trunk. Next, it was locked into place, extended and the roof tent was up.

Once at the top, the awning could be erected, which was surprisingly easy. The awning already came with poles that just had to be inserted into the brackets on the tent. And Anja already had a protective roof over her head.

You should remember this procedure for your first roof tent assembly:

Unlock eyelets with key

Folding down the base plate

Fold up the roof in pairs

Ladder in the roof tent or trunk depending on load capacity

Engage ladder & set up securely

Insert awning poles into brackets

Freezing temperatures & wind: experience & advice

For the overnight stay, Anja and Matthias decided to close the roof tent completely. It has three layers: the outer layer, a fly screen and a blackout blind. This meant they could be sure that they would not only stay dry, but would also be protected from insects. During the night, however, they felt the wind. The thermometer read around 5 °C. They reported that thinner sleeping bags would not have been a good idea.

As a conclusion to their first night in the roof tent, they had these suggestions for improvement: Wrap up thick and maybe put something under the mattress. But challenges aside, the view from the roof tent in the morning was simply breathtaking. When they opened the windows, a breathtaking panoramic view awaited them. Even the wind wasn’t so bad.

For your next roof tent adventure: Warm sleeping bags & put something under the mattress.

Unforgettable experience in a rooftop tent: adventure

On the whole, the rooftop tent experience was certainly unforgettable, but the bloggers are more likely to be occasional campers. One thing is for sure: it was an adventure that they will remember for a long time to come. However, those who want to travel in a smaller vehicle and be as close to nature as possible should definitely find happiness in a rooftop tent.

Turkish airlines, such as Turkish Airlines are a popular choice, as they offer flights from all major German cities, such as Berlin and Hamburg. Thus, travelers can arrive at their destination within a few hours with a direct flight.
5 hiking trails near Antalya

5 tips for your Antalya vacation:

Lycian Way

Köprülü Canyon National Park

Kemer

Kalkan to Patara beach

Kurşunlu waterfall

Lycian Way

The most panoramic hike is the long-distance route on the Lycian Way. The 30 kilometers long route is one of the most popular routes in the whole Turkey and offers a unique view on the way from Adrasan, passing the lighthouse of Gelidonya. The historical path ends in Mavikent and is just right for active nature lovers. The best season for the hike is between June and August. However, for the trail you should definitely bring stamina. If you are traveling with your own campervan, you can easily complete the trip with several stops along the way.

Köprülü Canyon National Park

Another fantastic route is located in Köprülü Canyon National Park. In the middle of the borders of Antalya province, the trail is considered one of the most popular among Turkish and foreign holidaymakers. The starting point of the hike is the natural houses of Perge, another attraction of the region. Along the nearby gorge, visitors hike past BüÄrüm Köprüsü and back again. The route is also suitable for less experienced hiking enthusiasts. Those who want to stay longer can stay overnight at the campsite of the national park. However, you should bring the appropriate equipment yourself.

Starting point: Nature houses of Perge, nearby gorge with BüÄrüm Köprüsü

Suitable for less experienced hikers, camping facilities available, own equipment required.

Kemer

The Kemer – Kuzdere hiking trail is considered a moderately difficult route and is also appreciated by less experienced hikers. The path leads past historical buildings of the region. With a length of only 6.5 kilometers, the route is also ideal for families. Most of the time you move on forest paths and experience nature in its purest form.

Kalkan to Patara beach

Not to be underestimated is also the route from Kalkan to Patara beach. Passing various small villages along a nature trail, you eventually reach the beautiful Patara beach. The path is popular with travelers mainly because of its view of the sea. Starting as a city trail, one quickly reaches the coast and walks along it, climbing GelemiÅ to reach the beach afterwards via Patara’s sand dunes. With a length of about 16 kilometers, hikers also need some stamina here, the best time to explore the route is between May and September.

Kurşunlu waterfall

A short but impressive walk is offered by the area around the Kurşunlu Waterfall. Accompanied by the sounds of the waterfall and the diverse sounds of birds, you can enjoy the nature of Antalya. The short and family-friendly trail offers green trees and earthy paths. Locals also like to come here to relax and enjoy the tranquility.

Those who decide to travel to Antalya should, due to the large offer, consider making one or two excursions into nature in addition to the sights of the city and the planned beach vacation. The cheap flight offers also make it quite easy for those on short notice to get to the region quickly. When is your next vacation in Turkey?

Innovation through adventure: DTBD roof tents

Rooftop tents have evolved from a simple idea to a popular solution for camping enthusiasts seeking a unique outdoor experience. When asked which rooftop tent to buy? one option is the company DTBD Outdoor (Dare to be Different).
Wait, what is a roof tent anyway?

The basic idea behind roof tents is simple yet ingenious: by mounting them on the roof of your vehicle, they provide an elevated sleeping surface that protects against uneven ground, animals and the elements. This creates a convenient way to sleep comfortably while camping or traveling while enjoying the freedom of the outdoors. Setting up a rooftop tent is comparatively straightforward and does not require the time-consuming setup of a traditional tent.

The roof tent quickly in the overview:

Creating a raised sleeping surface

Protection from uneven ground, animals & weather conditions

Enjoyment of the freedom of nature in comfortable surroundings

No time consuming setup like traditional tents

To see how uncomplicated the construction can be, you should watch this video:

Camping for beginners

If you’re embarking on your first camping adventure, a few basic tips can make the difference between an enjoyable experience and a challenge. Here’s some advice that can help you as a camping beginner.

Preparation & trial and error: Practice makes perfect

It’s best to practice pitching your tent before you go on a trip. This will help you avoid frustration and uncertainty when you arrive at the campsite. It also doesn’t hurt to take a look at your rooftop tent’s instruction manual or watch a tutorial beforehand. Additionally, if you’re unsure about what it’s like to sleep in the tent, do a trial overnight in the backyard. This will help you get used to the environment and make sure you have everything you need.

Planning & packing: prepare camping adventure

Of course, now you have to choose a destination. Whether in Germany or in Spain, Italy or Sweden, you should always choose a campsite that suits your needs. Some offer more amenities, such as their own shopping and restaurant offerings, while others are more secluded and close to nature. Then it’s time to pack. Take only the essentials. Think sleeping bag, sleeping pad, weatherproof clothing and food. Above all, pay attention to organization and order.

Cooking in the open air: Equipment & rain protection

Just before the trip, you should also think about what you want to eat. As a camper, you usually eat in nature. Therefore, plan simple meals that are easy to prepare. Avoid perishables and make sure you have all the necessary utensils for cooking, such as a camping stove. Additionally, check the weather forecast before you leave and be prepared for different weather conditions. Rain gear and warm clothing can make all the difference to a successful vacation.

Enjoy adventure: relaxation & joy in nature

Once you arrive at the campsite, you can of course apply what you have practiced before in your garden. On site, also make sure that you don’t leave any trash and that you follow the rules of the campsite. Respect the wildlife and avoid unnecessary noise. Then all you have to do is get involved in the adventure and enjoy your time in nature. Relaxing at the campsite is often the best thing about camping.

Quick overview: 8 tips for camping beginners

So that you don’t lose the overview, here you have all eight tips at a glance:

Learn how to set up the roof tent correctly

Trial overnight stay in the garden

Adventure on vacation: Camping with children

The school vacations are coming up and you want to plan an exciting summer vacation for the whole family?

Camping! To make it easier for you, we met a camping expert (from Campwerk roof tents). Since she has several days, a week to do with camping, she can answer the most important questions about camping with the family.

First, why would you go camping with kids?

FIV: Thank you for letting us meet for the interview. Campwerk is all about camping, because you sell roof tents, tent trailers and camping accessories. That’s why you know a lot about the subject. In your experience, why does it make sense to go camping with children?

Campwerk: Camping allows children to experience nature up close and develop their perception of the environment. It creates a sense of adventure and freedom by allowing them to have new experiences and develop their curiosity as well as creativity.

At the same time, camping allows the family to spend valuable time together away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It strengthens family bonds through shared activities and creates fond memories. Additionally, camping provides numerous learning opportunities for children where they can learn new things and build their confidence and problem solving skills. It also allows the entire family to have some welcome relaxation and you can all just chill out.

Here we have summarized it for you again, that’s why you should go camping:

Experience nature, promotes understanding of the environment

Adventure & freedom, good for new experiences

Family time makes you grow stronger together

Learning & development for the whole future life

Relaxation & deceleration: Just relax!

Tip. You can read more about this topic here: Vacation with children!

Tips for the journey: How to make the journey!

FIV: Let’s start with the journey! Long car rides can be very exhausting, especially in sunny summer weather with the kids. How do I make sure that everyone reaches the campsite relaxed?

Campwerk: First of all, you should schedule regular breaks during the car ride so that the children can move around, go to the toilet and eat something. These breaks are important to avoid boredom and heat. You can also take a walk or have a picnic. Additionally, you should prepare entertainment for the ride, such as audio books, music, games, or movies. This will keep your kids busy during the ride and create a more pleasant atmosphere in the car.

Tip: With older children you can also try one of the FIV games:

<hiddenlink href="https://fivmagazine.de/app/game/" data-type="page" data-origin="de" data-origin-url="/?page_id=176007">Mini Games</hiddenlink>

Camping: Select suitable for children

FIV: Once the family has arrived safely at the vacation destination, how do I find a suitable campsite?

Campwerk: For children, the campsite is quickly a whole new situation. Since things can quickly get hectic, you should stay calm and always keep an eye on the little ones. If you don’t pay attention, accidents and injuries can happen. Of course, if your kids are old enough, they can help with smaller tasks, like pitching the tent or gathering wood for the campfire. This will teach them practical skills for outdoor life.

My tip for keeping the kids busy when you need your rest or are busy with other campsite chores is to set up your own little play and craft zone for your kids at the campsite so they feel comfortable and have something to do. Pack games, books, toys and other activities for them to use.

Alternatively, you can find out about the children’s activities offered at the campsite and let your children take part in, for example, a children’s animation.

Employment at the campsite: craft & play corner!

Cozy place to sleep: test beforehand!

FIV: Even the most beautiful day at the campsite comes to an end. How do I provide a nice place for children to sleep?

Campwerk: First of all, you should make sure that your children find the sleeping bags, air mattresses or camping beds comfortable. You can also test this before the vacation. In addition, you should make sure that there are no loose cables or objects lying around, so that no one gets hurt at night. You can also give older children a flashlight so that they can go to the toilet at night.

Learn how to set up your sleeping space properly here:

Clothing: Remember to bring a change of clothes!

FIV: The next morning, everyone has to get dressed, too. What should I look for when I pack the clothes for everyone?

Campwerk: Even in the most beautiful summer weather, you should also think about weatherproof clothing to protect your children from rain or cold in changing weather. Change of clothes is also especially important. Children who spend a lot of time in nature quickly get their clothes dirty or wet and then it is helpful if you have a few clean and dry things with you.

Cooking & Eating: Gas stove, grill & campfire

FIV: We are all dressed now. What is the best way to provide breakfast at the campsite?

Campwerk: Some campsites offer extra breakfast. This is a good alternative, if it should be too much for you to cook. But for a real camping experience you also need a camping stove. This can be a gas stove or a grill. Here you can prepare eggs, bacon but also vegetables. In addition, you should think of cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, toast or rolls with different spreads. Older children can also help with cutting fruit, spreading the spreads or setting the table.

Of course, you can prepare all other meals of the day in the same way. In the evening it can be especially nice to roast marshmallows over the campfire. In general, you should always think about snacks. Children get hypoglycemic quickly when they’re running around all day, and it can also make car rides much more relaxing if you eat something in between.

These are the things you should take with you for a good breakfast at the campsite:

Eggs

Bacon

Vegetables

Muesli

Yogurt

Fruit

Toast

Roll

Spread

Marshmallows

Activities: out into nature!

FIV: Breakfast will certainly be very tasty. One of the great advantages of camping is that the family can be out and about all day. What should I look out for when planning camping activities with children?

Campwerk: When you do something exciting in between, you consciously spend time with your children. This creates moments of bonding and exchange, away from normal everyday life.

Directly at the campsite, outdoor games such as Frisbee or ball games are especially good. But also in the surrounding area you can plan activities like hiking, biking, canoeing or swimming. Thereby the children get exercise and you can experience a little adventure together.

These are recommended activities to do on vacation:

Frisbee

Ball games

Hiking

Cycling

Canoeing

Swimming

Sun Protection: Sunscreen, Umbrella & Hat

FIV: If I travel a lot, I should also pay attention to sun protection. What is recommended here?

Campwerk: Don’t forget to bring sunscreen (sunscreen cream or oil), sun hats and umbrellas to protect yourself and your children from the sun. Make sure the sunscreen provides a high level of protection against UV rays. Apply sunscreen liberally, about 30 minutes before you go out in the sun. You should reapply every two hours or after swimming or heavy sweating. A sun hat or wide-brimmed cap can also help protect your face, ears and neck from direct sunlight.

You can find a guide for the right sunscreen here: Sunscreen for your skin type!

Safety: first-aid kit to protection from insects

FIV: We are now safe from the sun. What else should I pay attention to when camping with the whole family, so that everyone comes back from vacation unharmed?

Campwerk: In advance, you should always make sure that you have a cell phone with all the usual emergency numbers. These include, of course, 110 for the police and 112 for the fire department or ambulance, but also the number of the medical emergency service or the local coast guard can not hurt. For minor injuries and minor illnesses you should prepare a first-aid kit with plasters, wound disinfection, painkillers and fever remedies, fever thermometer, allergy tablets and diarrhea medication.

Against annoying insect bites in summer you can also take ointment or insect spray for skin and clothing. However, if in doubt, always go to the doctor before you treat something yourself.

With this packing list, you can quickly put together your emergency kit:

Plaster

Wound disinfection

Painkiller

Antipyretic

Clinical thermometer

Allergy tablets

Diarrhea remedy

Ointment for insect bites

Insect spray

Consideration: Other families & nature

FIV: Should the family still want to stay at the campsite for a day, what should I look out for?

Campwerk: At the campsite you should pay attention first of all to your neighbors, but also to the surrounding nature. Of course, it’s nice to choose a campsite where other families are also camping, so that your children have the opportunity to make new friends, but always make sure to treat each other with respect. Children should be quiet especially at quiet times. If the child is still too young for you to explain how to be considerate, better warn the neighbors.

In addition, a campsite is often kept very natural and this should be maintained. Teach your children beforehand to respect nature by showing them how to properly dispose of trash and take care of animals and plants.

FIV: That’s definitely good to know. Then thank you for the interview!

There’s a certain nostalgia when it comes to spending the night around the campfire to see who can roast the best marshmallows. Unfortunately, that cozy, flannel-covered feeling tends to fade after the second day in a row of cold hot dogs and leftover marshmallows for breakfast. Camping food is surprisingly delicious. Luckily, people don’t have to live on packaged sausages alone when they’re in the great outdoors. As long as you take these six tips to heart, we promise it’s still possible to make a great meal on your next camping trip.

The 6 ultimate cooking tips for campers

Camping food is surprisingly delicious. Luckily, people don’t have to live on packaged sausages alone when they’re in the great outdoors. As long as you follow these six tips, we promise that it’s still possible to make a great meal on your next camping trip.

1. preparations in advance

You’ll save an incredible amount of time on site, and on unmotivated days, you’ll be thankful you prepared everything in advance. It’s hard enough to chop onions in a real kitchen, let alone with a dull knife on a rickety picnic table. Just do like the butchers at Whole Foods and prep your ingredients, or better yet, your entire meals, in advance. Take rib-sticking stews and hearty chilis in storage-friendly Ziplocs or stackable deli containers, and when the sun goes down, all you have to do is heat them up.

2. keep it simple – the strength lies in simplicity

Keep meals as simple as you can. As much as we like to show off our 5 star chef skills, culinary theatrics should be left at home as soon as you pull out of the driveway. Your family won’t judge you for sticking to simple one-pot meals like braised chicken thighs, but they will judge you for making them eat trail mix for dinner after your campfire soufflé experiment goes awry.

3. do not cook every day

You don’t need to cook every day, if you look around properly you’ll have plenty on your plate. Before you head out, pack a selection of foods that are ready for immediate consumption such as cured meats and a few pieces of hard cheese. It’s important that these survive in dry conditions, outside the fridge. Add to this a bottle of wine and the gourmet party can begin!

4. minimalism

Really only bring the bare essentials. Unlike your favorite nonstick skillet, a high-sided cast iron skillet needs no coddling, making it the perfect companion for outdoor cooking. It can fry bacon in the morning, reheat pot roast in the evening, and, yes, sear hot dogs, and when you’re done, all you have to do is wipe it down. That’s why don’t try to tick off the mile-long packing list, but sort your stuff neatly in advance and you’ll save on unnecessary weight, have less to worry about and less to clean.

5. cool box – Clever & Practical

Pack the contents of your cooler smartly.
Freezing all the meats you plan to cook will keep your cooler frosty once packed, and with a little planning, they’ll be perfectly thawed by the time you’re ready to munch on them. You might also consider having them thawed in advance. For one thing, they’ll be sturdier, you won’t have to worry about packing them with raw ingredients, and they’ll only need a quick reheat at dinner. Either way, it’s never a bad idea to have a thermometer on hand just to make sure your ice chest is a fridge-worthy temperature.

6. plan B – always be prepared

Dusk is not the best time to realize you’re completely incapable of building a fire. Take the portable butane stove with you just in case, and you won’t have to eat jerky for dinner.

Whether your idea of the perfect picnic is cooking in the wilderness or sipping a summer cocktail at a sidewalk cafe, we’ve got everything you need to spend your summer in the wild. Let the outdoor entertaining begin.

The 5 best recipes – Quick cooking

When you’re camping, hiking, and backpacking, you have a lot going on. Unfortunately, gourmet food isn’t usually one of them. It can be downright impossible to pack enough food and gear to make delicious and varied meals, right? Wrong! With the right know-how, you can make amazing meals without a lot of gear or ingredients. Check out these 25 easy camping recipes that use 5 ingredients or less and you’ll never cook the same way again

1. campfire scrambled eggs

I know what you’re thinking, “everyone scrambles eggs, it’s no big deal.” But hear me out. Most scrambled eggs that people make are either lifeless, disappointing, and just plain pitiful. Especially the eggs made while camping. But if you sublimely master this recipe, cloud-like eggs will be your reward.

Ingredients

Eggs

Water

Clarified butter

Preparations

Put your ingredients in a sauce pan or pot. Not a frying pan, as you’re probably used to. Preferably, leave the yolks unbroken at first. If one breaks when you crack it, that’s fine. Start away from the fire and just stir to mix the egg whites and water. Then put the pot over the fire. Once the eggs are warm, you can break up the yolks and mix the eggs together. At this point, the butter should also start to melt. When the butter melts, take the pot off the heat and keep stirring. You want to keep taking the eggs off the heat and then turning them back on. We’re looking for a slow heat that barely cooks the eggs and melts the butter, but that’s about it. Usually it will be a routine of 30 seconds over the fire, 15 seconds off. Once the butter is completely melted and scrambled, you can leave the eggs on the fire a bit longer. Keep scrambling until the eggs just come together. Your eggs won’t seem done, and they’re not. But take them off the heat anyway. The residual heat in the pan will bring your eggs to perfection. By the way, you can cook your eggs this way at home, too.

2. grilled sweet potato fries

Fries are part of the holiday, relaxed times not prepare a 5-course meal is just the desire of many parents. children are always happy about fries and the sweet potato variant is definitely a bit healthier!

Ingredients

2 medium sweet potatoes

2 tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil

1 clove of garlic, chopped

1 teaspoon chili powder

1 package Ranch Dry Mix

Preparation

Wash the sweet potatoes and dry them. Then cut them into lengthwise strips, about 1/3 inch wide on each side, so they look like French fries. The most important thing is that they are uniform so they can cook at the same time. If you wanted to make a crispier fry and you have the time, soak the fries in water for 30 minutes and then let them drain for an hour before proceeding. If not, that’s fine, they will still be delicious.

Take all the ingredients and mix them together in a bowl. We want an even distribution of all the yummy seasonings and dry mixture. Place these fries on a piece of aluminum foil set over a sheet pan. Place the pan on a grate over an open fire or on the center rack of a grill. We want to cook the potatoes and get the outside nice and crispy. Depending on your heat, you want about ten minutes per side, flipping once.

3. muesli over the campfire

Sure, you could make granola at home before you head out to the campsite. But when you make your granola fresh and over an open fire, you give it savory properties that add flavor, aroma, and texture.

Ingredients

6 cups rolled oats

2 cups pecans or almonds

½ cup vegetable oil

½ to 1 cup maple syrup

1 cup dried cranberries

Preparation

Get a cast iron skillet that’s nice and hot. Add your nuts and toss them around. It’s a good idea to take the pan off the heat while you toss them around to make sure they don’t burn. Once they start to have a nice nutty smell, you can add the oatmeal. Cook them slowly over the fire until they turn brown and nutty.

Remove the pan from the heat and add the vegetable oil and maple syrup. Depending on what consistency you like, you may want more or less syrup. Toss this together and when it’s completely mixed, pour it into a bowl. Add the dried cranberries and eat it warm. You can also keep it covered and it will last for more breakfasts.

4. potato egg scramble

This healthy breakfast is an easy camping meal and a great way to start the day. It’s prepared in a skillet and served four at a time.

Ingredients

2 medium diced potatoes

8 eggs, scrambled

1 chopped onion

2 chopped peppers (your choice)

2 tablespoons butter

Preparations

First, put 1 tablespoon of butter in your cast iron skillet and place it over your fire. Melt it and spread it everywhere.

Second, add the potatoes, onions and peppers. I like the potatoes in chunks and the onions and peppers chopped, but it’s your choice. Cook these until the potatoes are tender and the onions and peppers are nice and cooked. It takes about 20 minutes, but it depends on your fire.

Third, add the next tablespoon of butter and, once melted, add the eggs. The eggs will fill all the spaces between the potatoes, peppers and onions. But to ensure even cooking, cover the pot with a lid or aluminum foil and let it cook until the eggs are nicely cooked, about 4 minutes.

5. fish fillet fried in beer

Beer and fish does not fit at first sight? This recipe is a real treat and is also easy to prepare!

Ingredients

1 pound of fish fillets, half a pound per person, for two

1 cup buttermilk pancake mix

1 cup beer

1 cup flour

¼ cup cooking oil

Preparation

The first step is to open the beer and take a sip. We want the oil to be nice and hot when we’re done cooking our fish fillets, so we should warm it up now. Good job! Take another sip of beer!

Our fish fillets need to be cleaned and dried. You could buy these fish fillets at a store, but hopefully you caught them yourself, skinned them, cleaned them, deboned them, and dried them (because I can’t do that). Anyway, take your fish fillets and dredge them in the flour. We just want an even layer of flour all over the fish. Take another sip.

Now we want to mix the pancake mix and about ¾ cup of beer together. The rest of the beer is for you. Mix it with a fork until it’s smooth. Now we want to take our floured fish fillets and dip them into the batter. Again, we want an even coating.

Add these fish fillets to the oil and cook until the outside is golden, brown and delicious. When the outside is done, the inside should be nice, moist and shiny. Only cook two at a time as the pan is too full when frying is a big no-no.

When they’re all done (and you’ve eaten the first lightly fried fish fillet, just to make sure it’s done, and then finished the beer), let them drain a bit on a paper towel. After that, you can sprinkle them with some dill, pepper, or lemon, but it’s not really necessary. They’re pretty perfect just the way they are.

Barbecue – techniques for the best meat

Grilling season is upon us, so dust off those tongs and start cleaning those grates before

Red meat – How to grill red meat

The best cuts of meat, like rib eye, strip steak or filet mignon, have the highest marbled fat content, making them tastier, more tender and rich in meaty goodness. But they’re also the most expensive. You can get more bang for your buck with less expensive cuts like hanger steak, skirt steak and sirloin steak, which are flavorful and delicious when grilled. Here’s the secret: marinating the less expensive cuts makes them more tender, flavorful, and helps them retain moisture when cooked.

Always preheat your grill. Whether you are cooking over gas or charcoal briquettes, the grill must be fully preheated before cooking. Starting the grill 10 to 20 minutes ahead of time will help ensure proper cooking temperatures, which in turn will help prevent sticking or undercooking. Buy a cheap meat thermometer. The temperature gauge will tell you with great accuracy whether the meat is rare, medium-rare, medium or well done.

The position of your meat on the grill is also important. Steaks should be cooked quickly over the hotter area of the grill to get a good char. Searing the surface of the food at a high temperature results in the formation of a caramelized crust and is crucial for flavor development! For more on grilling red meat, especially the classic, steak, check out this article.

Fish – How to grill fish

Do not be afraid of grilled fish! Many types of fish can be grilled very well. Salmon, tuna and swordfish are all excellent grilled fish. Shrimp are also perfect to cook on the grill. You can put them all right on the grill without them falling apart. But other fish that are more on the flaky side are not suitable for grilling on the grill (cod, perch, haddock, snapper, etc.). Fortunately, there is a solution. Grill baskets are widely available, affordable, and allow you to prepare all kinds of fish on the grill. They help hold the fish together while giving it all the smoky, charred goodness of cooking over the flames. They are also great for grilling whole fish.

Cooking fish is a matter of taste. Some people like salmon and tuna grilled medium-rare, others prefer their seafood well done. As with chicken and steak, a thermometer will help you determine your preferred level of cooking without cutting into the meat.

Fish is better prepared if it is placed on a hot grill surface. This will prevent it from sticking to the grill grates, and it will cook very quickly in this place.

Chicken – How to grill chicken

Boneless chicken thighs are the moistest and most delicious part of the bird, in my opinion. But the breast can be just as tasty if prepared properly. Chicken breast tends to dry out if you don’t know what you’re doing. I also like to leave the skin on the breast, which makes the bird juicier and gives it more flavor.

Marinating also contributes a lot to the taste. The best marinade for a juicy chicken is very simple:

1/2 cup soy sauce

1 tablespoon freshly ground pepper

1/2 cup chopped fresh lemongrass (from 2 stems)

1/2 cup fresh lime juice

1/2 cup asian fish sauce

2 tablespoons crushed red pepper flakes

1/2 cup sugar

Ideally, you should marinate chicken overnight, but even a 2-3 hour soak makes a big difference in flavor and texture.

Chicken is best cooked on the more medium area of the grill that is not super, super hot. This way it can be fully cooked throughout and avoid burning the outside. The chicken is cooked when the juices run clear when pierced with a fork. However, you should also use a thermometer to make sure the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees.

Cleaning – How to clean your barbecue

A grill that is ready to cook must be two things: clean and hot. Always clean your grill with a suitable brush before and after cooking. After cooking, clean the grill with a brush and then “season” it with a paper towel dabbed with cooking oil.

Buy a new, stiff metal brush every few months during grilling season to keep your brush fresh and effective. Old brushes can be dangerous. If they are overused and worn, the bristles can come out and end up in the grill or food.

Steak – Must Have on the Grill

How do you grill a perfect steak? That’s quite an art, if it’s not the taste, it’s the time when you take the steak off the grill. It should not be too dry, but also well done, a real challenge! Here are 5 tips for grilling your perfect steak.

Early salting of the steak for more intense taste

Allow steak to thaw before grilling

Sauté to intensify the flavor

Cut thicker steaks in half

You can’t save a dry steak

Early salting of the steak for more intense taste

There is a belief that salting meat too far in advance of cooking can draw moisture out. While it’s true that salt can draw moisture out on its own, it’s also true that over the course of 20 or 30 minutes, this can actually be a good thing, as the salt begins to dissolve in the little bit of moisture that has been drawn out.

So when you drop the steak on the hot grill grate, all the sugar and protein in the moisture mixes with the salt and any other seasonings you’ve added to create a perfectly crispy crust. The taste of that delicious crust is worth any moisture you can lose.

Allow steak to thaw before grilling

The goal is to grill steaks until they are brown, with a slight charring on the surface, while making sure the inside is cooked to perfection and juicy, right? However, if the steak is too cold, it can take so long for the inside to reach that perfect juiciness that the steak overcooks and becomes gray and dry. To remedy this, let steaks sit at room temperature for 20 to 30 minutes before grilling them. Then they cook faster to the center and stay juicier.

Sauté to intensify the flavor

One rule of thumb that separates professional chefs from many home cooks is that chefs sear their steaks longer. This is because professionals know that you can capture aromas and flavors on the surface of steaks by searing them, so they let their steaks sizzle over direct heat until the surface is dark, dark brown. Don’t think that searing “traps the juices.” That’s a myth. But searing definitely makes a steak much tastier.

Cut thicker steaks in half

High heat is the only way to grill most steaks perfectly. If you see flare-ups, that’s the only time you’d really need to move them around on the grill. Some cuts of steak are so thick that grilling them over direct heat alone would cause them to burn on the outside and not achieve the desired internal firmness. Therefore, for steaks thicker than an inch, consider the sear-and-slide approach. After searing both sides nicely over direct high heat, move the steaks to a not-so-hot part of the grill, ideally over indirect heat, and finish the grilling process there.

You can’t save a dry steak

Steaks that are grilled at high heat lose moisture. This means that the fat and juices are literally squeezed out of the meat. Over time, as we have made steaks easier to digest, this is an unfortunate reality. Perhaps the most important part of preserving that moisture when grilling a steak is to remove it from the fire before it gets too dry.

Usually you only have a minute or two to execute this. When steaks go from medium rare to medium or medium to medium, it can go fast. You need to be vigilant to catch this window. Never walk away from a steak on the grill. Be careful because it is always better to remove a steak when it is undercooked than to let it overcook because you can always put it back on the grill.

If you haven’t tried smoked sea salt on your grilled veggies – You’re really missing out!

Pasta Primavera

Chili lime corn on the cob

Grilled tofu & soba noodles

BBQ Baked Sweet Potatoes

Campfire Cake

Pasta Primavera

We’re suckers for pasta, so this was right up our alley. This is such a simple recipe and it turned out perfect in the Dutch oven. We found that using 17 coals on top and 14 on the bottom was perfect for it.

Ingredients

1 jar of pasta sauce

1 package mozzarella cheese

450 g any vegetables

1 package noodles

1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese

Preparation

Combine pasta sauce and half of the mozzarella cheese and parmesan cheese in a large bowl. Then cook the vegetables and pasta. Then mix everything together preferably in a casserole dish and sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella cheese. Finally, cover with aluminum foil and bake in a Dutch oven for 25 minutes.

Chili lime corn on the cob

Corn on the cob is such a traditional food. This recipe gives it a little twist and makes it quite tasty. This recipe doesn’t need to be adapted because it’s already campsite. If you’re cooking directly over the campfire grate, be sure to wrap the corn on the cob in aluminum foil or clean the grate well.

Ingredients

4 peeled corn on the cob

2 tablespoons butter

1/2 teaspoon chili powder

1/2 teaspoon grated lime zest

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Preparations

Put the corn in a bowl, cover the bowl with wax paper and put it over the fire. In the same way, put the butter in another bowl and wait for it to melt. Then stir in the chili powder, lime zest, salt and pepper and finally spread the butter mixture evenly over the cooked corn.

Grilled tofu & soba noodles

We made this dish for dinner and our family loved it! To make it as easy as possible for us at the campsite, we did a lot of the prep work ahead of time; we cooked the pasta and made the dressing. We used the campfire grill grate to grill the tofu and it turned out pretty darn tasty! Click here for the recipe.

Ingredients

340g dried soba noodles

180 ml extra virgin olive oil

450g extra firm tofu (drained and patted dry)

3 medium garlic cloves

3/4 teaspoon fine-grained sea salt

3 small/medium shallots

3 small Serrano peppers (chopped)

1 bunch (about 4 handfuls) coriander (stems trimmed)

1 teaspoon natural cane sugar (or brown sugar)

2 teaspoons fresh lime juice

Preparation

First, cook the soba noodles according to package directions, salt them generously, and then rinse them with water and oil. You can leave them in a large plastic bag in the fridge overnight until you’re ready to use them!

The dressing is a little more challenging. Crush the garlic and salt into a paste, then add in the shallots one at a time, as well as the peppers and cilantro, a handful at a time. The mixture should be fairly smooth. Add the sugar and then the lime juice, before gradually whisking in the olive oil. Taste and adjust the flavors if necessary.

Cut the tofu into slabs, carefully rub with olive oil and place on a medium-hot grill. Cook until golden brown on one side, flip and grill on the other side as well.

To assemble, sprinkle the soba noodles with a good amount of the dressing, leaving enough to drizzle generously over the tofu. Place the tofu on top of the noodles and drizzle with more dressing.

BBQ Baked Sweet Potatoes

This was another super simple yet tasty recipe. There’s just something about potatoes cooked in aluminum foil that makes them extra tasty. No prep is even needed in advance, just throw in some aluminum foil and cook.

Ingredients

8 medium sweet potatoes

4 teaspoons olive oil

4 tablespoons Greek yogurt

1 spring onion sliced

Preparation

Rub each potato with a little oil and salt, then wrap it in a double layer of foil.

As soon as the grill coals glow red, place the potatoes directly on them. Cook for 15 mins, turning with tongs, then cook for another 15 mins. Remove one, unwrap it and check that it is cooked through.

Peel the top of the foil off each potato, cut open and cover with a spoonful of yoghurt and a few slices of spring onion.

Campfire Cake

Not only was this recipe fun to make, but it turned out delicious! We had never heard of this type of cooking before, so it was interesting to try. Don’t worry, we saved all the oranges we cut out and ate them throughout the day. Nothing needs to be made ahead of time, so this is a pretty easy recipe for a weekend of camping.

Ingredients

4 oranges

150 g dark chocolate

100 g butter

2 eggs

60 g sugar

40 g flour

Preparation

First you have to cut a slice off the top of the orange. Then remove the flesh from the orange. Simply fill the muffin batter into the orange. Put the cap back on and wrap it in aluminium foil. Then put them in the embers, wait about 15 minutes, carefully take them out and let them cool down a bit.

Voilá orange cake

In addition, you can choose from a wide range of fabrics in terms of colour and feel.

Cutter Chair: Design by Mario Bellini

The Cutter Chair is a chair with a notch, a tribute to the artist Lucio Fontana. Check out the design by Mario Bellini here:

Beds: sweet dreams in the springs – Papilio, Charles & Co.

A bed should serve its owner as a place of retreat and as a place where we come to rest at the end of the day. In addition to the right appearance, quality and comfort are the most important factors. Because only in soft beds it is good to dream…

Like the other pieces of B&B furniture, the Richard model is characterized by a modern and original design. A high bed frame and special profile seams are features of the design. Due to high side parts, any type of mattress topper can be used. The bed can be purchased with a spring frame, slatted frame or manually adjustable mattress frame. While the interior is made of steel tubes and profiles, the cover can be ordered in fabric or leather.

Simple and comfortable – associations that come to mind when you think of the Papilio bed. A bed in which you immediately want to sleep. The Papilio range also includes a sofa, chairs and an armchair.

Comfort and stability, modernity and tradition – inspired by the Chesterfield style and the Capitonné technique, the Tufty Bed combines all these characteristics.
The base is characterized by a square pattern, the distinguishing feature of the series. The headboard is covered with fabric or leather in various colours, the slats are made of book plywood. The hollow inner surface provides plenty of storage space.

Charles: The bed in this range is available in two versions: one in which the bed frame is flush with the mattress and the other in a wider version. The significant feature is the base in the shape of an inverted L in polished or lacquered aluminium. Also available with castors.

Armchairs: relaxing evenings with upholstered furniture

Reading, watching TV or simply savouring the end of a long day with a glass of wine – you can spend hours in a comfortable armchair. Not only for people who have to stand or walk a lot for work, it is a real pleasure to be able to lean back in the armchair in the evening.

An example of these comfortable armchairs is the model Pablo. At first glance, you don’t even notice the upholstery in the seat of the leather part. Armchair or chaise longue? This chair is a mixture of both. Clear design with structure. The seat, which is pulled over the back and armrests, softly cushions the body as if it were floating. See for yourself this contrast of straight lines and round shapes, light wood and strong leather.

Cult object Up: expressive must-have with ball stool

This armchair is a real bestseller. The armchair also comes with a stool in the shape of a ball, which is connected to the armchair. But this striking shape is no coincidence, behind the unusual shape is an interesting design concept:

The designer of the piece of furniture intended his design to be a metaphor of a large womb. The stool symbolizes a ball that is carried by the woman at the foot. With this he wants to represent a woman who is a prisoner of herself. Among other things, the armchair is also known as “Big Mama” or “Blow Up”.

50 years Up – New colours in the old design

The iconic armchair is already celebrating its 50th birthday and is still as popular as ever. For the anniversary, the model is now also available in the following trendy colours: orange red, navy blue, emerald green, petrol and cardamom.

Up Junior: colourful luxury design armchairs for the children’s room

The Up armchair is also available as a junior version. This bright, cheerful red designer armchair fits perfectly in the children’s room and is also suitable for playing:

Sofas: ergonomic seating furniture with soft backrest

The Naviglio couch model convinces with curved, linear chaise longue and stool elements. The designers got their inspiration for this design object in nature, more precisely they oriented themselves on the river and watercourses.

Soft geometry – this is the concept behind this luxury couch. Although the backrest has a round shape, it is actually an irregular polygon with rounded edges. This unusual shape literally hugs your body! This sofa doesn’t need any cushions, the soft upholstery of the sofa nestles perfectly against your back.

The design line also includes a service table with a transparent glass top. This is supported by a thin vertical axis made of bronze-coloured nickel and a base made of polished marble.

No less than five new colours are offered by the new bouclé fabric, the following colours work together in this dynamic pattern: White, Grey, Black and Tortora.

The Camaleonda is a contemporary classic. The generous polyurethane filling will make you dream! Behind this sofa is an innovative system of cables, hooks and rings with which you can combine the different modules as you wish. Seats, backrests and armrests can be hooked in and out again and again. The geometric natural landscape is available in every available material from B&B Italia.

Finally the first camping trip is coming up – but the equipment is not yet complete. The destination is already fixed, but the right tent is still missing. To choose the right tent you have to know the different types of tents and their characteristics. Whether you are looking for a tent for one person or for the whole family, we have selected all types of tents for you and put them together.

Tent types – trekking tent, throwing tent, roof tent & geodesist

The probably most classical and easiest way of camping is camping. This is most suitable for a short trip not too far away. You don’t have to pay much attention and can choose a campsite where you can spend a nice time with your family or friends. This way you are flexible in where you want to spend your holiday and still be in the fresh air. You can just pitch your tent spontaneously at a place you like and move on the next day if you feel like it. This is also one of the cheapest ways of camping, because you don’t have to pay much when you do wild camping and on a campsite you usually only pay the entrance fee for yourself.

However, there are different types of tents you have to choose between. A simple person tent only offers space for a few people, but is sufficient if you are only with your partner or one or two friends. The tent does not take up much space in your luggage and is therefore ideal for a short trip in nature. If you want to avoid the complicated setup of the tent, you can opt for a throw tent.

The most popular types of tents are:

Trekking tent – This tent is extremely compact but very durable.

Throw Tent – A throw tent is compact and quick to pitch.

Dome Tent – A dome tent requires little space and can be set up easily and quickly.

Rooftop tent – This makes it easy to set up tents anywhere and these tents have very good insulation.

Tunnel tent – A tunnel tent offers a lot of space and often even standing height.

Family tent – This tent offers plenty of space for the whole family.

Ridge tent – Ridge tents are bright and open and perfect for an Indian adventure.

Geodätzelt – The Geodätzelt holds even on rocky ground, steep slopes or dense vegetation.

Pyramid tent – These tents are extremely stable and can withstand strong winds.

So if you want to spend a few days in nature in a simple and uncomplicated way, you should get involved in this experience. Of course, a hotel bed would be more comfortable than the mattress with which your tent is probably equipped, but for this short time you can accept the lack of comfort if in return you are offered an unforgettable nature experience.

So you will find the right tent for you:

There are many different types of tents that are suitable for different trips. So if you are planning an expedition into the mountains, you will need a different tent than if you want to camp on the beach. And read on – at the end of the article we have an informative video about backpacking tents.

Trekking tent – compact and resistant

This tent is extremely compact but very durable. It requires only a small packing size and is very light, which can be very advantageous when travelling. The trekking tents are available in one- or two-person versions.

small packing size

little stress

one or two persons tents

Litter tent – set up within a few minutes

A Wurfzelt is compact and quick to set up. It is a free-standing tent, so it does not need guy lines. It is extremely easy to set up, there is no need to push in the poles. Disadvantages are that the tent can only offer moderate stability in wind and is a large pack size.

very quick to set up

freestanding

large pack size

no tedious insertion of the linkage

moderate wind stability

Dome tent – for difficult surfaces

A dome tent requires little space and can be erected easily and quickly. It is a free-standing tent, which is even lighter than a geodesic tent. Dome tents are good for difficult surfaces such as gravel and steep slopes and are very easy to set up. The dome tents offer good value for money.

freestanding

lighter than geodesic tents

simpler structure

good value for money

good for difficult substrates

Roof-tent – flexible and comfortable travelling

With this you can easily put up tents everywhere and these tents have a very good insulation. They are waterproof and have a comfortable mattress inside the tent, which is not comparable to an insulation mattress. In addition, roof tents can be erected in a few minutes with the help of a crank mechanism or gas pressure springs. They are suitable for any car and offer the possibility to be as flexible as you want when travelling. If you don’t like a place, you can just keep on travelling. Plus you don’t even have to look for a campsite, a parking space is enough.

good thermal insulation

flexible travel

comfortable mattress inside

simple and fast assembly

waterproof

suitable for all cars

Tunnel tent – lots of space and good wind protection

A tunnel tent offers a lot of space and often even headroom. Tunnel tents offer the best weight/space ratio and also provide protection even in strong winds. However, if you are looking for an even more stable tent, you should choose a cross between a tunnel tent and a geodesic tent. A tunnel tent has parallel pole arches and a crossing with a Geodesic tent has crossed pole arches. This characteristic offers just a little more stability.

best relation to weight and use of space

good protection against strong winds

Crossing with Geodät -> crossed rod arches -> more stability

Family tent – the holiday home to go

This tent offers plenty of space for the whole family. It is an oversized camping tent, which offers a good standing height and often even windows. The family tent is a good alternative to a holiday home. It offers a lot of comfort and space for the luggage.

oversized camping tents

good standing height

plenty of room for luggage

Large windows if necessary

inexpensive alternative to the holiday home

Ridge tent – perfect for Indian adventure

Ridge tents are bright and open and perfect for an Indian adventure. A ridge tent, just like a family tent, offers a good standing height. The thermal insulation is not very good, but you can light a fire inside the tent, which will keep you warm. It also offers plenty of space for several people and luggage.

good standing height

lots of space for several people and luggage

poor heat insulation

Fire can be lit in the tent

Geodes – stable, weatherproof and suitable for extreme expeditions

The Geodätzelt also holds on rocky ground, on steep slopes or densely overgrown sections. Geodesic tents are very stable, weatherproof and do not necessarily need guy lines to withstand the weather. They are often used during trekking because they can be set up even when there is not much space and are stable and sturdy even on difficult ground.

even with little space

Pyramid tent – good for ultra-light hikers

These tents are extremely stable and can withstand strong winds. They are good for ultra-light hikers and offer good space. The tents consist of tarpaulins, poles and pegs. They have been around for many years, but the pyramid tents are never re-laid by tent manufacturers.

Not to forget: The tent must fit into the backpack! What else you have to pay attention to is summarized in this informative video.
