Berlin Fashion Week: Designers & Shows Autumn/Winter 2016
Berlin – Impressive. Versatile. Fashionable. A fashion metropolis in Germany. In Berlin, Germans are more daring when it comes to fashion than in other cities. Especially during Fashion Week the streets are filled with fashion enthusiasts. Also this year, besides the shows of the designers fashion fairs and of course aftershow parties can be visited. The highlights of the first days of Fashion Week Berlin 2016 briefly summarized.
Berlin Fashion Week 2016 – Designers, Shows & Interviews
January 18 – Day 1 at Fashion Week
My train to Berlin leaves Cologne on time. The weather: Cold! Due to possible snowfall nationwide, delays and delays of the German railway are expected. And indeed: From Hanover, everything is white far and wide, but the sun is shining and I’m not too worried about being late for my first interview appointment at Fashion Week. During the drive I go through my questions once again. My first stop on the planned appointment marathon is the fitting of the fashion label Riani at the Ellington Hotel. Already this afternoon I will interview both the head designer Ulrich Schulte and the managing director Martina Buckenmaier of Riani. On the train I meet other Fashion Week visitors and get to talk about fashion fairs, designers and fashion trends. My anticipation is rising. The train arrives at Berlin Central Station with a slight delay of half an hour. I disembark with my slightly too heavy suitcase and hurry up the escalators, across the multi-level station to a taxi. I have no time to lose and notice by the way that it is a few degrees icier in Berlin than in the Rhineland. At my place in Kreuzberg my team with camera is already waiting for me.

Highlights – 2 days Riani Backstage
Two hours before the Riani show, the backstage area of the fashion tent at the Brandenburg Gate is already a hive of activity. Excited make-up artists next to designers and models. In between the press. The backstage passes are distributed at the entrance, of course only to the press, employees of the event and co. clothes racks next to make-up utensils, in between a microphone of a TV station – a structured chaos, the cliché of a fashion show.
Before the show, the last optimizations of the outfits are made. The models are waiting for their make-up, one or the other face is already known to the general public through the media. Ex-GNTM candidate Stefanie Giesinger stands next to To pmodel Franziska Knuppe, Luisa Hatema has her nails painted quickly, Larissa Marholt walks through the room on her phone, Olivia Jones sits at a make-up table like a paradise bird and poses for photos. Model and TV presenter Rebecca Mir spreads good vibes with her beaming smile, Bonnie Strange chats good-humouredly with her colleagues, former GNTM contestant Anuthida gives a fashion interview. Time is short, the show starts in a few minutes. Everything has to go fast. Assistants run past the press people, speaking wildly into the head set. The models remain calm, they’re routine. One last squeeze of hairspray, the outfit is smoothed out. And off they go: the show begins.
Young Talents – Kilian Kerner Show & Aftershow
The Ellington Hotel in Berlin – luxury in thick geäürn. The hotel convinces with the first step into the foyer. The line in front of the accreditation counter is long, but the staff is extremely courteous. The show starts in a few minutes – the guests are briskly led up the wide staircase. The hall with the large catwalk shines in a mysterious forest landscape. The theme of the show “The Huntingtans – Chewing Gum & Love Affairs, according to Kilian Kerner is based on a family story. The female models all enter the runway in the exact same blonde, chin-length wig and sunglasses.
The collection is characterized by pastel elements, incorporated in pleasant beige, black or dark blue. The music of the live band rounds off the successful catwalk presentation. The designer enters the stage, the hall shakes, the guests are enthusiastic. Kilian’s collection is celebrated! After a few interviews with the creator of the collection, a hearty meal in the hotel lounge and a glass or two of champagne, the DJ turns up the music. The bar with the long drinks fills up, the dance floor is inaugurated. Kilian is in the middle of it. Together with his guests he rocks the Ellington Hotel and the Fashion Week Berlin 2016.
