Breitling Navitimer: Design, Features & Price

As a specialist in chronographs, Breitling has played an essential role in technical development. For example, the company invented two independent pushers and belongs to the exclusive circle of watch brands that own their own chronograph movements. To meet the absolute quality standard for mechanical movements, Breitling has equipped all its electronic models with SuperQuartz™ movements, which are ten times more precise than a standard quartz. To qualify for the coveted designation of officially certified chronometer, the movement must meet seven extremely strict selection criteria. For example, the average daily rate deviation must not exceed -4/+6, which equates to a rate precision of 99.99%. Only 5% of all watches manufactured in Switzerland are chronometer-certified.

In terms of design, the Navitimer stands out. Its dial, like the bracelet, is characterized by many visible functions and displays and thus combines beautiful design with functionality in an optimal way.

Design: Detailed dial, slide rule bezel & contrast counters

The first two generations of the Navitimer were launched with black subdials, but in 1959 the image that is still typical today with the white contrasting totalizers became established. The Navitimer is available with both indexes and Arabic numerals. More common are the versions with indexes, but the watch models with Arabic numerals are by no means considered exotic. The movement with chronograph meets the highest standards and is certified as a chronometer – as have all calibers of the watch manufacturer since 1999. The exterior design of the new Breitling Navitimer 01 is once again close to the original – and thus continues to delight pilots and leisure watch wearers.

B03 Chronograph Rattrapante 45

The Breitling Navitimer B03 Chronograph Rattrapante is a unique realization of one of the most elaborate complications in watchmaking: the rattrapante (from the French “rattraper” meaning “to catch up”) functions with two central chronograph hands positioned one above the other, allowing two elapsed times to be measured simultaneously. One of the hands can be stopped to measure an intermediate time, an invaluable function for pilots and true to the mission of the legendary Navitimer. With its stainless steel case and stratos grey dial, it is aesthetically striking and original. The Breitling logo is split between the two central hands of the chronograph and comes together when the B on the red chronograph hand cleverly overlaps with the anchor on the seconds hand. Another striking detail that embodies sophistication and innovation in watchmaking.
