Jeff Bezos’ private jet: Two Gulfstream G650ERs – The Amazon founder’s 150-million-euro fleet
Jeff Bezos doesn’t have one private jet. He has two – both Gulfstream G650ERs, the same model that Kim Kardashian, Oprah Winfrey and several European royal families fly. For a man with a net worth of 150 billion dollars, that’s almost modest. Or strategically: Bezos is known for meetings in several places in one day – a single jet is simply not enough.
Gulfstream G650ER: The best long-haul business jet in the world
The G650ER (Extended Range) is the long-range version of the G650. It is Gulfstream’s masterpiece:
- Range: 13,890 km (London to Los Angeles non-stop without refueling)
- Speed: Mach 0.925 (fastest business jet in its class)
- Cabin: 19 passengers max., 16 reclining seats in VIP configuration
- Cabin length: 16.19 m, cabin height: 1.88 m
- Engine: 2x Rolls-Royce BR725 A1-12
- List price: 72 to 75 million dollars
For Bezos’ requirements – regular transatlantic flights, Seattle-Miami-Washington routes, trips to Blue Origin test sites in Texas – the G650ER is the logical compromise between range, cabin size and operating costs.
Why two identical jets?
The answer lies in operational logistics. If Bezos flies from Seattle to a Blue Origin launch in Texas one day and has to go to Washington for a Senate meeting the next, he needs flexibility. One jet may still need to be in Texas while he flies back. Two identical G650ERs allow parallel operation without compromising quality.
What’s more, Bezos has also owned a ketch yacht worth 500 million dollars (Y721) and a companion catamaran since 2022. The logistics of this fleet – crew transportation, equipment shuttles – require air support. A single aircraft is not enough.
Bezos and the democratization of private flying
A G650ER charter is possible for normal people – but expensive: 14,000 to 20,000 euros per hour, depending on the operator and time of booking. For a Frankfurt-New York route (around 8 hours), that would be 112,000 to 160,000 euros.
Those looking for longhaul comfort on European routes – Frankfurt to Dubai, Munich to London, Berlin to Nice – will find current options in the Gulfstream G650ER charter and comparable heavy jets.
What Bezos’ jets tell us goes beyond luxury: they show that at a certain wealth level, time is the scarcest resource. No changing planes. No waiting area. No normal category security check. That’s the real value of a private jet – not the champagne on board, but the hours you don’t waste.
For those looking for a direct comparison: at 78 million dollars, Elon Musk’s Gulfstream G700 costs more than a single Bezos G650ER, but offers five living zones and the largest cabin dimensions in its class. Why the Gulfstream G650ER has become the private jet of the stars – from Kim Kardashian to European royalty – is explained in detail in another FIV article.
