Breitling Superocean Heritage: Design, Features & Price

As a specialist in chronographs, Breitling has played an essential role in technical development. For example, the company invented two independent pushers and belongs to the exclusive circle of watch brands that own their own chronograph movements. The various high-performance manufacture calibers feature useful and user-friendly functions, such as groundbreaking second time zone and world time systems. To meet the absolute quality standard for mechanical movements, Breitling has equipped all its electronic models with SuperQuartz™ movements that are ten times more precise than a standard quartz.

To qualify for the coveted designation of officially certified chronometer, the movement must meet seven extremely strict selection criteria. For example, the average daily rate deviation must not exceed the value of -4/+6, which equates to a rate precision of 99.99%. Only 5% of all watches manufactured in Switzerland are chronometer-certified.

Timeless design & avant-garde concept

Breitling has broken new ground in the manufacture of its chronograph movements, drawing inspiration from an avant-garde concept used in other high-end segments.

Ladies & Gents watches: Models

Within a few years, three different companies released three of the most enduring classics of modern diving watch idiomatics: the Rolex Submariner, the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms and the Omega Seamaster 300, all of which had certain features in common: excellent visibility, rotating timing bezels, good water resistance. In 1957, another classic of this era launched: the Breitling Superocean, which came out in both chronograph and non-chronograph versions. The Superocean models are now celebrating their 60th anniversary, and to mark the occasion Breitling released a new version of the watch that looks back to the originals in its design cues while being very forward-thinking in technical terms.
