Ralph Lauren

Ralph Lauren is known for his traditional fashion creations, which have been sold since 1967 under his fashion label Polo Ralph Lauren, named after him. The designer was born in 1939 in New York’s infamous Bronx borough and discovered his passion for high-quality fashion at the age of twelve – he spent the money he earned in his part-time job selling ties on expensive suits. After graduating from high school, Lauren decided to study economics, but switched to the US Army just two years later due to poor academic performance.

Ralph Lauren – Classic collections, timeless fame

After this time, Lauren worked at the long-established New York fashion house Brooks Brothers. A loan of 50,00 dollars enabled him to design his own tie collection. He thus managed to write his own success story, although he never studied or trained in fashion. He began to design complete collections – first for men and later also for women. In the seventies, he designed the entire collection for the classic film “The Great Gatsby”. In 2012, he was awarded the French Order of Merit. He is also immortalized on the New York Fashion Walk Of Fame with a bronze plaque.
