Labrador: Bathing and Undercoat Removal

The Labrador has very short and smooth fur. However, it is protected by undercoat despite this. Therefore, brushing with a soft bristle brush and combing at regular intervals is very important. Especially to have less fur in your own home, you should brush your dog regularly. At the end of winter, the hair change begins, during this time the hair loss is particularly strong. During this time, you should brush even more frequently and intensively.

Labradors generally do not need to be bathed, at least not in normal circumstances. Bathing should be rare, and if needed, a small water bath is completely sufficient.

Chihuahua: Bathing and grooming

The care of a Chihuahua is very low.

Bathing, grooming (Chihuahuas can have a lot of undercoat) Long-haired Chihuahuas can also have their tips trimmed.

Under no circumstances should you shave with a machine.

Miniature Spitz

Miniature Spitz or generally all Spitz breeds receive undercoat removal and are then hand-shaped. Never with the clipper! They should also come regularly, at the latest every 8 weeks.

Shepherd Dog

They also come regularly for undercoat removal. The contours are trimmed with the scissors according to the customer’s wishes.

Pug

They also have undercoat. Here too, the undercoat is removed and they are bathed. With pugs, I very much like to use mud baths.

Poodle

They usually come in every 4-6 weeks for a haircut and bath. Poodles don’t have an undercoat. There are various poodle cuts. Most of them, however, prefer the “Teddy Look”.

Rottweiler

Rottweilers, like Poodles, have short hair that only grows 1-2 cm long and then falls out. Here, you can also apply mud baths and remove the undercoat.

Maltese

They usually come in every 4-6 weeks like Poodles to the salon. Here, they are cut according to the customer’s preference. Some like it longer, others prefer it low-maintenance and keep their Maltese short.

German Shepherd

I never had one. Only a Cane Corso, which are heading towards the Mastiff direction. Here you can also properly bathe and remove dead hair.

Shiba Inu

See point 9. Hair without end.

Shih Tzu

Like Maltese. Every 4-6 weeks. Most are kept sportily short.

French Bulldog

I have several in my client base who come every 4-6 weeks for bathing and blow-drying.

Border Collie

Means a lot of work. washing, blow-drying, undercoat removal, contour trimming

Dobermann

As with the Rottweiler, Dobermanns have short hair that only grows 1-2 cm long and then sheds. Here too, you can apply mud baths and remove the undercoat.

Australian Shepherd

Corgis

My Favorites: Corgis – Undercoat removal, bathing, blow-drying, shaping, and the classic Corgi butt.

Jack Russell

Trimmed by hand. So individual hair strands are plucked by hand.

Dachshund

Labradoodle or Poodle mixes

Available in all variations and coat types

Some are clipped, some are hand-cut, some have trim hair. These dogs are so individual and usually require a lot of work.

Lagotto

Similar to Poodles. They are also bathed and clipped with a machine.
