Doll Cheek Trend and 90s Brows

FIV: Tell me Ellen, is there a product that you have recently come to know and love?

Ellen: I’ve had the popular Rare Beauty Liquid Blush on my wish list for a very long time and now I’ve finally tried it and I’m thrilled. I wish I had bought it sooner!

FIV: Since you’re talking about blush, what do you think of the doll cheek look à la Sabrina Carpenter?

Ellen: I love it! Actually my favorite blush placement as it looks very cute and makes my face look slimmer. Maybe the comeback has something to do with the fact that Asian make-up techniques are becoming more and more popular. But that’s just a guess! I’ve also been getting tired of the “lifted face” look lately.

FIV: As we all know, fashion trends keep repeating themselves over the years. At the moment, 90s skinny brows are back in fashion. The ultra-thin eyebrows form a stark contrast to the“laminated statement brows” that have become increasingly popular in recent years.

Ellen: I actually haven’t dared to try the 90s skinny brows yet, and I probably never will as they wouldn’t suit my face. However, I think they look beautiful on many others and are something different after the laminated brows trend.

The perfect make-up for everyday life: highlighting your own features

FIV: What is your personal favorite way to apply make-up?

Ellen: Glowy skin, a bit of glitter on the eyes and glossy lips are my go-to look! Glitter is also a must for me in everyday life, it gives me self-confidence.

FIV: Are you also a fan of eye-catching statement lips or do you prefer to stick to nude shades?

Ellen: Something in between, but more in the nude direction. My favorite combination is a nude lip liner with a soft pink, mauve shade!

FIV: And how do you feel about the “Bare Beauty: Less is more” philosophy?

Ellen: I personally think it’s beautiful. I like to experiment with lots of make-up from time to time, but mostly I create make-up looks that beautifuly emphasize my own individual features.

Daily makeup and product recommendations

FIV: Do you have a favorite product that you can’t do without in your make-up routine?

Ellen: The Skin Lovin Sensitive Concealer from essence is my absolute favorite product. I really use it every day. It has a medium coverage that you can build up quite well and a texture that doesn’t cakey or dry out on the skin and looks very natural.

FIV: What is your favorite make-up accessory and why?

Ellen: The blending tassels from Korean Cushion Foundations are the best for blending concealer and foundation. Better than any beauty blender. Super thin, soft, easy to clean and they come in many different shapes and colors.

FIV: Which products and techniques do you think are crucial for long-lasting make-up and why?

Ellen: Technique: Don’t apply too much product. A thin layer of foundation or concealer, for example, still looks pretty good at the end of the day and doesn’t get cakey so quickly.

But beware. Blush definitely lasts better if you use a liquid or cream AND powder version. More is more here. Products: Lots of fixing spray and a good primer. Both ensure that the make-up lasts a long time AND looks good.

ZOEVA: meaning behind the name

FIV: Zoe is part of the name of your brand. Can you tell us the exciting story behind the name ZOEVA?

Zoe: ZOEVA is a symbiosis of two names: my name, Zoe, means “life” in Greek. Eve was the first woman in the Garden of Eden and is emblematic of femininity and feminine grace.

Aiming high with Ebay: How it all began

FIV: We heard it all started with ZOEVA on Ebay, what was the very first product you sold and is that product still available for purchase from ZOEVA today?

Zoe: My sister Barbara and I were born in Greece, but came to Germany with our family when we were very young. As sisters, we are inseparable. Our mother, a loving and strong woman, had a great impact on us and raised us to be confident, independent women. She also inspired us to live our dream, which eventually became ZOEVA.

The idea for ZOEVA was born when we realized that there were no affordable, high-quality makeup brushes on the market. We started in our own four walls, with very limited financial means at the time – but with a lot of passion. At first, we only sold on eBay, but then things progressed quickly. Now we have a portfolio of more than 300 products that we sell all over the world. My first product was a powder brush – a bestseller that we still have in our range today.

ZOEVA brushes: what makes them so special?

FIV: Many who hear ZOEVA immediately think of the incredible brushes. What makes ZOEVA’s brushes so special and different from others?

Emira: I don’t have a specific favorite brand, as my experience is that each product works differently, one better, the other less effective.

Beauty – No fun but frustration

FIV: Since it is such a big topic for you, we would be interested to know when you discovered your passion for skin care?

Emira: This came about during the time when I decided to take control of my skin on my own and through a lot of research, I came across the causes of my blemishes. Before that, I’ll be completely honest, I had absolutely no fun with beauty and make up, as it was always frustrating for me.

Tips for healthy & beautiful skin

FIV: In general, do you have any quick easy tips for beautiful and healthy skin for our readers?

Emira: My top 3 most effective tips that are suitable for any skin type and can be implemented immediately without necessarily buying anything new: pat the excess water into the skin after cleansing instead of drying it off; as hard as it sounds, reduce or even eliminate cow’s milk products and use sunscreen on your face daily.

Top 3 Make Up Products: Lip gloss, blush, …

FIV: Also everything about makeup can be found on your channels, what are your 3 makeup must-haves that are in your makeup bag?

Emira: A pink lip gloss, a blush and an eyelash curler are always in my makeup bag! Even if you don’t feel like putting on makeup: curved eyelashes with an eyelash curler make you look much more awake and stylish. Give it a try!

“Nothing More Desired Than a Safe Space.”

FIV: What inspires you to produce beauty and skin care content every day?

Emira: I remember how sad I used to be when new products or visits to the dermatologist did absolutely nothing for me. During this time I wanted nothing more than a save space that tells me that blemishes are not a bad thing and at the same time gives me solutions to problems and the experience of someone affected by them. In short: I want to save young people time, frustration and money with my content and strengthen their self-confidence.

Create cosmetic products & help people

FIV: Why do you know so much about beauty? Did you perhaps do an apprenticeship in this field?

Emira: After I tried so many products and was at some dermatologists and cosmetic studios, I spent a long time looking for long-term solutions and causes for acne and that has actually also changed a lot, so that my skin, without pill & Co. recover naturally. At the same time I worked for a manufacturer of cosmetic studio equipment in sales and had direct insight into the practice. Then I started to create cosmetic products myself and help people.

1.5 hours visit to the drugstore

FIV: That’s very exciting! Since you also regularly test and try out many products, how long does it take you to shop at the drugstore?

Emira: It depends, lately I always keep very short, because my skin does not like frequent changes of products at the moment. And if I quickly go out again, I’m not even tempted. But there were times when I was certainly also times 1.5h hours in the drugstore.

Emira: I like dm very much in itself, because there is now a lot of choice, but still very much like high-end alternatives, so I find Müller also quite good.

When applying make-up, there are a lot of things to consider: does the colour match the skin tone? Does the foundation have a suitable consistency for my skin? These and even more questions come up again and again. Here you can find out what you should consider in your make-up routine!

Do’s

• You should always make sure – see the part about preparation – that you apply a proper care under your make-up. This way your make-up will last longer and your face will look more even because your skin is moisturized.
• Then you should make sure that your make-up matches your skin colour. It should not be too light and not too dark.
• Besides the color, the consistency also plays a big role: if you want a foundation that is not so heavy on the skin, then go for a more liquid consistency. If you want it to be very opaque and you don’t mind the foundation being a little heavier on the skin, then go for a slightly thicker foundation.
• You shouldn’t apply a thick layer of everything. It’s enough to apply a normal layer of foundation with some concealer, powder, bronzer, blush and highlighter. But you don’t always need that much – it’s up to you!

Trends change all the time, whether it’s in fashion, interior design or even the beauty industry. In the early 2000s, thinly plucked eyebrows were hugely trendy, but unfortunately the hair growth can be permanently damaged and the eyebrows remain so thin forever. In the mid-2010s, bushy and unpinned eyebrows became more and more trendy and the entire market changed in that regard. Eyebrows became a huge component in makeup. Although plucking used to be enough and eyebrows were only lightly accentuated for strong makeup, it is now in the interest of most beauty enthusiasts to leave the house with top styled eyebrows. There are also a much larger amount of products available to repaint one’s eyebrows as desired. Brands like Anastasia Beverly Hills have set themselves apart from their competition in part because of their special eyebrow products. Eyebrow pomade has taken the world by storm, the darker and cleaner the brows looked in 2016, the better. Meanwhile, full brows are still a huge trend and there are eyebrow products en masse from all brands to make any look possible.

Shape your eyebrows with soap?!

With ordinary household curd soap to the perfectly shaped eyebrows? Sounds crazy at first, but it’s really simple! You can also achieve fuller brows with the help of a so-called Brow Lift. Also known as Brow Lamination. The Brow Lift permanently changes the shape of your eyebrow hairs using chemical processes to alter the structure of the hair, like a perm. The procedure is completely painless and the results last 45-60 days before needing to be repeated. First, the hair is cleaned with a cleanser so that no dirt particles are later under the plastic foil. Next, the so-called Perm Solution is applied, which softens the hair and ensures that the hair, which was previously glued into shape, stays in place and does not lose its shape. After the hair has been coated with the perm lotion, it is covered with foil and left to rest for 10 minutes before the fixative is applied and left to work under the foil for another ten minutes. The fixative regenerates the hair structure with the help of keratin and keeps the stuck hair in place. The brows are then cleansed again with the cleanser to remove residue and finally a follow up conditioner is applied to re-strengthen the chemically treated hair. You can easily do the application at home with the appropriate sets or get professional help from a beautician.

In order to always have pretty brows, you can also choose to have them permanently engraved on your face in the form of a cosmetic tattoo. There are several methods associated with little pain, but the best known and most popular are the Powder Brows and Microblading. With Powder Brows, a fine needle and a tattoo machine are used to place the pigment under the skin with quick stitches, just like a regular tattoo on the body. The whole device and also the result resemble a normal tattoo and are comparable, however the needle is not led so deeply. The result is eyebrows that always look like they have been painted. As an alternative, you can also have your eyebrows microbladed. Here, the colour pigment is scratched under the first layer of skin with a kind of knife that consists of several needles and imitates small, individual hairs. Only the plucking remains your task to maintain the clean shape neatly.

On February 16, 2017, James Charles pulled out his phone on his way to South Africa to share the following joke on Twitter:

Long Story Short: On April 22, 2019, Charles posted a recommendation for Sugar Bear Hair’s product on Instagram. The background: the company had helped him with safety issues during California’s Coachella Festival. As a direct corporate competitor to Sugar Bear Hair, beauty guru Tati Westbrook made her displeasure heard on YouTube, accusing Charles of a betrayal of their friendship: instead of promoting Sugar Bear Hair’s products, as a good friend of hers, he should have been promoting her company. She also accused him of repulsive sexual comments at private events. The situation quickly escalated and YouTube greats like Nikkita Dragun and Jeffree Star got involved.
