Upholstery: structure and characteristics of the upholstery of a sofa

Most couches follow a very similar construction scheme. First there is a frame made of wood and/or metal followed by a base.

Normally, the spring core is attached to the slat base, but not every sofa is equipped with a spring core. This does not necessarily mean inferior quality, if the missing spring core is equipped with a wave under-springing and a slightly denser foam.

In the case of an innerspring sofa, metal springs protrude into the foam cushion to make the seat cushions a little harder, but the foam surrounding them can be a little softer, as it is no longer solely responsible for the resistance of the furniture.

Here again briefly and clearly, the structure of the seat cushions:

Foam padding: Which foam is the most comfortable for your sofa?

The material is particularly popular in the production of upholstered furniture, because it is hard-wearing and durable. In addition, it holds its original shape well and springs back to its original cut even after continuous stress. This makes foam particularly suitable for upholstered furniture.

How soft or pliable the material is is determined by the density and compression hardness. The volume weight provides information about how much air the foam contains, because air is obviously lighter than the polyurethane that encloses the air bubbles. However, a high density does not also stand for a high compression hardness, this is determined by the size and density of the bubbles.

To illustrate this a little better, simply compare two standard kitchen sponges of different price categories. A very cheap kitchen sponge will be coarse-pored and very easy to squeeze into a small ball. A high quality kitchen sponge, on the other hand, will have much more resistance.

But how do you decide which foam upholstery is right for you? On the one hand, you can assume that cold foam cushions seem a little harder at first, but at the same time they hold their shape much better.

For normal foams you should pay attention to the following values:

• Thickness: 4- 6 cm
• Volume weight of upholstered furniture: around 30 kg/m³
• Reference: Mattresses from 40 kg/m³ upwards

The range of cabinets at Brabbu is relatively small, but no less luxurious or appealing for that. For cabinets and shelves, mainly wood and metal elements are used, which make the products look natural and yet high quality and can thus perfectly fit into the atmosphere of the corresponding room.

Cabinets are often available in combination with matching bedside cabinets, such as the “Huang Cabinet” and the accompanying “Huang Bedside Table”. Both are made of pure wood, walnut on the outside and rosewood on the inside. The grain of the wood is visible all around and makes the cabinet almost look like a tree. To give the simple piece of furniture a highlight, both the cabinets have golden handles that resemble branches. A real eye-catcher for any living room or bedroom!

Brabbu attaches importance to the reference to various cultures, and especially the design of the carpets reflects this ambition. The patterns are often based on traditional patterns from different cultures. An example of this is the “Cauca” carpet, which originates from the Colombian Cauca culture and picks up on its traditional geometric patterns and artwork from the 9th and 10th centuries. Some of the carpets are available both as flatweaves and as individual highlight carpets or rugs.

Similar to the carpets, the cushions by Brabbu are also relatively unusual. Whether tassels, pastel colours or silky shimmering embroidery: Brabbu sets highlights in every room with its cushions. The bathtubs are definitely a flagship of the company. Especially the “Koi” bathtub, whose design is supposed to be reminiscent of the scales of a koi carp, is unique and very well-known.
