Pack your bags and immerse yourself in the Danish way of life – your dream vacation starts here!

Denmark: A Kingdom in the North

Why do we love Denmark?

Beautiful coastal landscapes: Baltic Sea and North Sea

Denmark is characterized by a breathtaking coastal landscape. The more than 7,000 kilometers of coastline stretch along the North Sea and the Baltic Sea and offer a wealth of natural wonders. You’ll find not only vast sandy beaches, but also unique dune formations sculpted by wind and waves. The picturesque coastal landscapes invite beach lovers to sunbathe and swim. Water sports enthusiasts can enjoy sailing, surfing and kite surfing. Nature lovers will find abundant wildlife in the coastal areas and have the opportunity to bird watch and hike through nature reserves.

Right to the big question: What suits you better, the <hiddenlink href="https://fivmagazine.de/ostsee-oder-nordsee-camping-ferienhaus-urlaub-machen-reise-check/" data-type="post" data-origin="de" data-origin-url="/?p=182790">Baltic Sea or the North Sea?</hiddenlink>

Cities and Culture: Old Town & Street Food

Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, is a cultural gem. The city is peppered with impressive museums, including the National Museum and the National Museum of Denmark, which offer a glimpse into the country’s rich history. Historic landmarks such as the Little Mermaid statue and Rosenborg Castle are world-renowned. The vibrant art and music scene makes Copenhagen a hotspot for creative minds. Scandinavian design is a hallmark of the city, and you can discover unique artwork and design products in the many stores and galeries. Copenhagen’s gastronomic scene is also top-notch, from traditional Danish dishes to international delicacies.

More on the most popular destination, Copenhagen, in a moment!

Outdoor activities: beach, dunes, nature

Denmark offers a variety of outdoor activities for adventure seekers. In addition to the popular cycling, there are great opportunities for hiking, fishing, sailing and windsurfing. The country’s landscape is lined with nature reserves and national parks, which are ideal for exploring the local flora and fauna. You can hike through dense forests, along rivers and lakes, or venture into the waters for fishing or water sports.

Relaxation and “Hygge

Denmark is famous for its concept of “hygge”. This word stands for coziness and relaxation. The atmosphere in the coastal towns and the typical Danish vacation homes radiates exactly this feeling. There is nothing like feeling the wind in your hair while walking along the beach and then stopping at a cozy café or your <hiddenlink href="https://fivmagazine.de/ferienhaus-daenemark-familie-hund-erfahrungsbericht-ferienhaus-checkliste/" data-type="post" data-origin="de" data-origin-url="/?p=182783">Danish vacation home</hiddenlink> and relaxing with a cup of coffee or tea. This relaxed way of life attracts many visitors who want to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Child friendliness: family vacation

Denmark is an extremely child-friendly country. Many resorts and cities offer a wealth of activities and attractions tailored specifically for families. Theme parks such as Legoland and animal parks provide hours of entertainment for children of all ages. The child-friendly beaches are safe and offer shallow water for splashing and playing.

Short distances: Experience a lot

The small size of Denmark makes it easy to explore different regions of the country during a vacation. Within short distances you can travel from the coasts to the cities and further to the rural areas. This allows you to enjoy a wide range of experiences in a relatively short period of time without having to travel long distances. You can easily move from the beaches of the North Sea to the historical sites of Copenhagen, experiencing the country’s scenic diversity.

This brings us directly to one of the hotspots in Denmark: Copenhagen.

Norway on the map: Scandinavia

Here you can see Norway on the map. The country borders Sweden and is located in the north of Europe, which can be commonly called Scandinavia.

Getting there: What you should know before your vacation

Before you travel to Norway, there are a few things you should know. It is important to know that Norway has kept the Norwegian Krone (NOK) as currency. So you will need to change your currency before you can relax on holiday. Although credit and debit cards are accepted almost everywhere, in the smaller, more rural provinces you should always carry some cash for emergencies.

Climate: From temperate to polar climate

Furthermore, you should know about the weather in Norway. The country has a temperate climate in many regions that can be visited all year round. However, many areas should rather be visited in summer, as winter is very dark and gloomy and light rarely comes through.

West: lake climate; high precipitation rate, cool summers and mild winters

East: dry climate; cold winters, warmer summers

North: Polar climate; No sun in winter

Here you will find a current overview of the weather in Norway:

Facts: What else you should know about the country

In Norway there is right-hand traffic

Norway has a very high cost of living

There is a very well developed internet network in Norway

Alcohol may only be purchased from 18, spirits from 20

Oslo: City trip to the capital

Norway’s capital Oslo is located on the south coast of the country and is characterized by culture and green spaces. Due to a variety of museums, the city is always worth a trip, both in good and bad weather. In the city centre you will find historical buildings and a super shopping mile that invites you to stroll around. The numerous restaurants invite you to try freshly caught fish and on the peninsula bordering the city you can even find real Viking ships from the 9th century!

Bergen: holiday resort and metropolis

Bergen is the second largest city in Norway and just as worth seeing as Oslo. What is special about Bergen? The city is located in a valley, surrounded by seven mountains, whose peaks offer a beautiful view over the city. Here you can go hiking or skiing. Sport is not your thing? No problem, the funicular Fløibanen takes you to the viewing plateau of Fløyen.

Bergen is also the gateway to Norway’s largest and most famous fjords, which are a real must-see. As well as stunning nature, Bergen boasts beautiful, colourful wooden houses and winding streets that are home to a strong music scene and many famous composers such as Edvard Hagerup Grieg.

Map from fjord to fjord

First of all – a fjord is an arm of the sea that reaches far into the country. The Hardangerfjord, the Trolltunga and the Sognefjord are the three largest fjords in Norway. Bergen lies right in between them, making it the perfect starting point for a tour through the Norwegian wilderness, towards the fjords. Our insider tip: The fjord village Flåm is located northeast above Bergen and offers a wonderful idyllic and homely atmosphere. If you have a lot of time, you can take the Flåm Railway, which is considered one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world.

Stops along the way:

Start: Bergen

Hardangerfjord

Trolltungafjord

Sognefjord

This route takes you right past the biggest fjords in Norway!

360° view over the Sognefjord

This breathtaking fjord is not only the largest in Norway, it is also the longest and deepest fjord in Europe. Other, smaller side arms lead away from it, which in turn flow into smaller fjords.

Lofoten: Island hopping in Norway

The Lofoten Islands offer natural spectacles at their best. During the long winter months you can marvel at the fascinating northern lights. In summer, on the other hand, it never gets dark, not even at night! Especially outdoor fans will love these islands, as the unique landscape between mountains, small villages and the sea invites you to explore and hike. Due to the relatively mild climate, despite the northern location, the Lofoten Islands are considered a year-round destination, as you can experience the islands in winter as well as in summer in a very special way.

Map: The Lofoten Islands in the North of Norway

The Lofoten Islands are part of the large archipelago in northern Norway and comprise the western section of the archipelago. The individual islands are connected by bridges, which make it easy to explore the entire region. Despite the many bridges, the region can only be approached by water or by air. For those who want to make the journey a destination, take the famous Hurtigruten route along Norway’s Atlantic coast by ship, which offers spectacular views of Norway’s landscape.

Reine: Idyllic village on the Lofoten Islands

Reine is a small fishing village on the east side of the Lofoten Islands. Besides the typical Norwegian red wooden houses, you can experience all kinds of things here. Especially photographers will get their money’s worth here in the early morning hours, when the rising sun bathes the mountains and the water in a magical light. Hikers can fulfil themselves on the Reineberg, from the top of which you have a breathtaking view over the village and the sea. You are not a professional mountain climber? No problem, on the mountain leads the so-called Sherpa stairs, which facilitate the ascent.

How nice it would be now to get on the next plane and just fly away. Somewhere where the sun shines, the air tastes salty and the sound of the waves can be heard in the background. But unfortunately many people simply have no money left for holidays. Do pupils and students have to give up travelling because of little savings? No. FIV Magazine has found out where you can go on holiday for a reasonable price and how you can save money locally.

Cheap travel destinations: India, Turkey & Mexico

Great vacation for little money? Far away, but pay little money for the flight? The FIV has picked out a few beautiful and affordable destinations that are worth a visit. Here are our top 5 cheap destinations.

India: Sightseeing, beach holiday and temple visit

To South India or to the Malabar Coast the flight takes about 11 to 15 hours, but the long journey is worth it. This destination inspires with dreamlike beaches, numerous temples and cultural sites. Celebrating is also possible in India, the old hippie cult sites Anjuna and Arambol are real party paradise. The trip is especially cheap because of the good exchange rate and the low food prices. For half a kilo of white bread you pay about 40 cents in India. A packet of Marlboro cigarettes costs only about 3.30 euros, so there is a lot of money in your wallet.

Argentina: culture in Buenos Aires & relaxing on the east coast

It takes 14 to 20 hours to fly to Argentina, and the country is guaranteed to meet all requirements. Holidays in Argentina are particularly cheap due to the fall in the Argentine peso exchange rate. For half a liter of local beer one pays approximately 1,30 Euro. Culture lovers will find what they are looking for in Buenos Aires, beach lovers are better off travelling as far as the east coast. Whether families or surfers, in Argentina everyone gets their money’s worth. Nature lovers are also happy in Argentina, because the national park and the glaciers are incredible experiences. hiking, ice trekking and kayak tours – there is a lot to see in Argentina.

Turkey: Monastery, ruins & Palaces or party in Bodrum

The long flights don’t appeal to you? No problem – Turkey is only about 2 to 4 hours away. The falling exchange rate of the Turkish Lira makes the trip affordable. A box of Marlboro costs about 1.70 euros and for 0.7 litres of wine you pay about 3 euros. There is a lot to see in Turkey; from the blue mosque to monasteries, ruins and palaces. Relaxing on the beach and splashing in turquoise water is an indispensable part of a Turkish holiday. Party lovers should travel to Bodrum, the St. Tropez of Turkey. In Bodrum, however, the prices are relatively higher, there it is worthwhile to stay in a cheap hotel in the low season.

Brazil: cheap holiday & sightseeing in Rio de Janeiro

The flight to Brazil takes almost 12 hours – then you have arrived in paradise. Brazil is a cheap destination if you don’t spend much time in Rio de Janeiro. It is of course sad to miss Rio, but at several other beaches you can relax much cheaper. Celebrating is of course very important in Brazil, but sightseeing is definitely on the agenda. Concerning the prices in Brazil we can say that half a kilo of white bread costs approximately 1,20 Euro and for a coffee in a restaurant one pays approximately 1,30 Euro.

Mexico: Latino parties, Mexico City & Maya ruins

The flight to Mexico, our 5th place of the cheapest destinations, also takes 12 hours. Whether dream beach or Latino parties, Mexico City or Mayan ruins – Mexico offers many different impressions. A vacation in Mexico doesn’t have to be expensive, 12 eggs cost about 1.30 euros and 0.5 liters of local beer costs only 90 cents. So a lot of money stays in your pocket although a lot is seen.

Cheap booking sites? Package tours for bargain hunters

On different booking portals you can find trips to far away dream beaches like the Maldives or Bora Bora for ridiculous prices – how is that possible? And which portals are the most popular? The FIV Magazine has selected everything about holiday guru and Co. Here you can find out what you need to know and how you can save a lot of money when booking.

Holiday Guru – Package Holidays in Paradise

A notification on your mobile phone: one week Menorca for only 391 euros. That sounds tempting, and makes many people want to jump at the dazzling offer. A bargain holiday that is only a few clicks away. The only catch is; you have to be fast. The offers are quickly sold out and often it is last minute travel. The staff scours the Internet all day long and puts together a package deal that is as cheap as possible. The trips are primarily offered via social media and are extremely easy to book. The employees only receive money if their own offer is booked. The operator pays the employees when a trip is booked via the site to which the holiday guru redirects visitors to his site. Since holiday guru does not earn anything from the offers themselves, they are offered at a low price. Differently than in the travel agency, where the coworkers claim a portion of the price of the journey for itself.

Vacation pirates – Last minute to the end of the world

The Urlaubspiraten platform is very similar to Urlaubsguru. The travel offers are ideal for students and freelancers who, unlike employees, do not have to announce their holidays months in advance. In addition, most offers are available for a maximum of two people. After booking, it is usually necessary to pack your bags directly, because last minute trips often start only a few days after booking. Thus, the hotels fill their vacant rooms. Because a guest who pays comparatively little still brings more money than an empty room. Holiday pirates also suggest destinations to the website’s guests that they may not even have heard of before. This gives you the opportunity to discover something new and fall in love with new places without having to dig deep into your pocket.

Holiday tracker – flights, luxury hotels & package tours

Urlaubstracker convinces with low prices, package tours to the end of the world but also separate flight and hotel. The site provides a lot of information about the hotels, their location and facilities. On the website you will not only find last minute offers, but you can also choose the month of the trip and then see suitable offers. Luxury trips are often offered at unbeatable prices, for example through sites like secretescapes.com. So you can travel to far away dream beaches for little money and sleep in expensive suites and luxury hotels. It is important that you inform yourself about the destination. The savings portals do not give such good insider tips as the lady from the travel agency. How about a trip to Bora Bora? With Urlaubstracker it becomes affordable and guaranteed unforgettable.

Backpacking – cheap around the world

Independently backpacking through Thailand, Indonesia or Iran – that is backpacking. On the way in an old VW bus or hitchhiking, staying overnight in cheap hotels or sleeping in a tent under the open sky, small snacks between through and eating in cookshops. A world trip with a backpack is a real adventure and a very intense experience. Our top destinations for backpacking are:

Thailand

Malaysia

Bolivia

New Zealand

Australia

Backpacking: Asia or rather Europe?

If you are now wondering why Thailand is on our number one spot, let us summarize it for you. Thailand is a good country for backpacking beginners: there are many backpackers, the country has a great infrastructure, the food tastes good and you get away cheap. In Thailand it is always warm and the country offers a mix of beach, culture, leisure activities, party and seclusion. Thailand also offers interesting climbing and diving areas, there is something for every type of backpacker. Many guidebooks recommend as the first backpacking trip a trip to a country within Europe. Here it is more likely that there will be no communication problems as almost everyone speaks English. A prime example is Croatia: almost everybody speaks English or even German, there are plenty of cheap hotels and you can get everywhere easily by bus or by car. If you want to go far away, you have to consider that you often have to apply for a visa or book a flight to get to another continent. Within the EU, this problem does not occur.

Save money on vacation: Top 3 tips!

Now I have already booked a cheap trip, but I do not want to spend the money I saved directly on site. What can I do to save some money on site? Where can I eat cheaply and how can I see as much as possible of the city for little money? Here we have our top 5 tips for a cheap holiday.

1. Eat cheaply on holiday – Streetfood & Co.

In tourist areas, restaurants are usually overpriced and overcrowded – therefore it is worthwhile to eat in remote side streets and smaller restaurants or at street food stands. Cooking by yourself in the fitted kitchen of the holiday flat saves money, but unfortunately so much time is lost in which you could explore the city. Fast food restaurants are usually a cheap option and can be found almost everywhere. Also practical for a packed long day are packed lunches; enough food and water is important if you want to experience a lot.

2. Travel cheaply – by bus and train through the city

Rental cars on holiday are a relaxed solution and save a lot of stress. You can store all the necessary souvenirs in the car and always have everything important at hand. Unfortunately, however, rental cars in holiday destinations are usually extremely expensive – the money saved on booking is quickly thrown out the window. Therefore we recommend travelling by bus and train. The best sights are not always within walking distance and for a trip by bus you only pay a few euros abroad. With a day ticket, one is in any case in good hands during a city trip and sees as much as possible in a short time.

3. Free city tours: see a lot for 0 Euro!

Many cities offer free city tours, where for 0 Euro you can gather as many impressions as possible. Often there are also private volunteers, called greeters, who give tourists a free tour of their home town. These so-called greeters also like to give insider tips and you can find them simply by googling greeters and the city name.

Good morning Berlin – in summer tourists from all over the world come to the capital of Germany. Berlin offers a lot to art & culture enthusiasts. Museums islands, Spree trips, the fashion or the culinary corners impress every tourist. A city that always quakes, quakes with many events and exclusive specials for everyone. Berlin can be very successful. But in winter more and more travel fans are deterred from flying to Berlin. It is unpleasantly cold and the city is often emptier than in summer. Of course there are no outdoor events. FIV Magazine has summarized as a Berlin lover, the best tips & tricks for the winter in Berlin. Enjoy Berlin in wintertime!

Art & Culture

Berlin is known for the best museums. In different parts of the city, there are small or bigger museums, which also entertain smaller and bigger people.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BdQ-muDlBL9/

Museum in Berlin

#1 GDR Museum

In history lessons everyone learns something about the world wars and the German past. Wouldn’t it be interesting if one could experience German history, not just reading it, but experiencing it? – The GDR Museum, hidden in Berlin Mitte and Spree, offers more. See, feel, hear and join in is what it’s all about here. The GDR Museum shows objectively and subjectively all facets of this time. With the permanent exhibition “Everyday Life of a Past State to Touch”, he invites visitors to rethink their knowledge and existing clichés by experiencing the past up close.

#2 German Historical Museum

Of course, especially for young tourists museums are not popular on vacation. But the German Historical Museum shows 8,000 exhibits that summarize 2,000 years of German history. Large halls are decorated with constantly changing exhibitions. In winter a pleasant walk through European history.

#3 German Museum of Technology

A subject for every man. Traffic, communication, production and energy technologies on over 25,000 square metres. Those interested in technology are in good hands here and can let themselves be inspired by the museum park.

Theatre & Opera in Berlin

The opera – perhaps a deterrent at first. But the trend is coming back. Berlin offers different locations to make yourself a fine evening. Various evening programmes offer something for every taste. Music with singing or orchestra, actors and daring costumes as well as interesting contents and realizations let you sweeten the winter evening in Berlin.

#1 German Opera
#2 Comic opera
#3 State Opera
#4 Neuköllner Opera

https://www.instagram.com/p/BslgUk7HWoi/

https://www.instagram.com/p/BsLIa82lHYz/

Berlin’s inhabitants can’t get enough of art and culture. For many, theatre evenings are a big part of winter. Smaller and larger groups present a play on each theme in different locations. Not only the shows are another possibility for cinema evenings. The locations are old theatres.

#1 German Theatre Berlin
#2 Berlin Ensemble
#3 Volksbühne Berlin
#4 Renaissance Theatre
#5 Schlosspark Theatre

Relaxation for the whole body

While the winter outside, forces every tourist to dress warmly, the body screams for relaxation. Where is there a better way than with wellness? – Take a sauna with a panoramic view or swim in Berlin’s oldest indoor swimming pool.
