Saeco SM7683/10 Xelsis: Coffee machine with Philips quality

Advantages: Quiet machine with external milk container

Nobody wants to wait a long time for their hot coffee. Especially in the morning, the half-sleep is quickly replaced by impatience and a bad mood if you have to wait too long for your coffee. If drinking the essence of life is then also held up by choosing the perfect amount of water and coffee strength, it can quickly become messy.

How does Saeco prevent this? Up to six coffee profiles can be created and stored in the machine. This way you can get your personal coffee very quickly, without any fuss. And you don’t have to worry about sour milk in the machine. The separate milk container and milk wand make it possible for you to easily store the remaining milk in the fridge and keep it fresh.

Nobody likes to clean their coffee machine. This problem rarely occurs with the Saeco SM7683/10 Xelsis, because the machine actually cleans itself. Apart from a few minor maintenance tasks, which we will tell you more about below.

Disadvantages: small cleaning tasks and filters

Whether a coffee machine can be universally described as the perfect machine is difficult, after all, every user has different demands on the machine. For this reason, we would like to briefly list the things that we believe could be disadvantages.

For example, the coffee temperature is fixed at about 75°C for drinks without milk and 60°C for drinks with milk. So if you expect particularly hot coffee, you might be disappointed with the coffee from the Saeco model. There is no possibility to regulate the temperature. However, it should be said that coffee is generally not brewed with boiling water. The settings of the machine accordingly serve to guarantee a perfect coffee result.

And what are the smaller tasks we were talking about? These are regular tasks for some coffee machines, and the Saeco SM7683/10 Xelsis is not spared from them either. The advantage of the removable brewing group is that you no longer need experts to maintain the machine, but can simply make sure that limescale and deposits are removed yourself. The disadvantage of this, however, is that there has to be someone who regularly takes care of the maintenance. Re-oiling and cleaning the brew group, as well as changing the filter and rinsing the milk wand must sometimes be done more, sometimes less regularly, depending on the intensity of use.

Comparison: Is the machine worth its price?

With over 1000 €, the Saeco SM7683/10 Xelsis is in the upper price segment for coffee machines, but of course you enjoy many advantages that you don’t get with cheaper machines. For example, creating user profiles really makes life a lot easier. But already the twelve different coffee specialties that are in the default on the machine are great and can be adapted to personal needs.

The touchscreen is large, clear and super responsive. The selection works quickly and easily and hardly leaves any reason for complaint. Due to the size of the screen, typos are not made that quickly, but unfortunately this cannot be completely avoided. For this reason, it may be worthwhile for some to resort to a fully automatic coffee machine without touch.

Do you still remember the coffee selection? While the Saeco machine offers twelve different coffee specialties, machines in the mid-price segment often only have a choice of the standard types: espresso, cappuccino, café crema and that’s only provided the machine comes with a milk or steam nozzle. If this is not the case, the selection is limited to coffee specialties without milk.

One way to still enjoy latte would be to purchase additional equipment to froth milk, but that’s exactly what they try to avoid when selling a fully automatic machine: Too many machines and kitchen appliances cluttering up valuable counter space.

Ceramic vs. stainless steel: Which grinder is better?

The last topic that we want to throw into the comparison with other machines is the grinder. The Saeco machine has a ceramic grinder with 12 steps. A twelve-stage grinder is in itself already a very high value for fully automatic coffee machines. Often you only get 7-8 stages to choose between. Also, of course, the question of standard show-off: ceramic vs. stainless steel. Many say that ceramic stays sharp longer, however, there are different opinions and experiences on this. Often the choice is a matter of personal preference.

Conclusion: Buy a Saeco coffee machine and enjoy perfect cappuccino?

So, what do we at FIV Magazine say? Buy recommendation or not? We were actually convinced by the Saeco SM7683/10 Xelsis. The coffee is easy to prepare, tastes good and the machine works quickly, so there is no congestion in the kitchen and all caffeine enthusiasts get their money’s worth.
