Denmark – Dive with us into the world of Denmark, between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, accompanied by our expert Jørgen Laustsen(Feline)! In this talk we will explore the unique facets of this enchanting country. Denmark, characterized by breathtaking nature, warm people and a rich history, has so much to offer. Let’s explore Denmark’s picturesque coastlines, cultural diversity and culinary highlights together as Jørgen (a Dane himself) shares his deep insights. Good food, beautiful vacation homes and a lot of nature between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea: Welcome to Denmark!

Why many love Denmark as a vacation destination

FIV: What do you think makes Denmark such an attractive destination for vacationers?

Feline: Nature, especially the long coastline and the seas. Denmark is a small country, about 5000 km² smaller than Lower Saxony, but still has 7000 km of coastline, most of which are sandy beaches. You never feel cramped, as there are fewer inhabitants in Denmark (5.8 million) than in Bremen (6.6 million).

There are very different beaches. On the North Sea coast you can find many beautiful beaches, but also a sea that you have to respect especially. On calm, sunny days it is nice to refresh yourself in the water, but if the sea is choppy and the waves are too big, you should not swim. On the other hand, you can enjoy the view from the beach.

Vacation with family, dog & Co.

On the east coast of Jutland and on the islands, the sea is much calmer and therefore particularly suitable for families with small children. There are more than 500 dog parks, and there is usually no leash requirement on the beaches from October to March. There are many opportunities for fishing.

Danes love strawberries with cream; the red berries are sold all over Denmark, often as self-service at farm stores. This is a delicacy that you should definitely try.

Flea markets are almost a kind of national sport in Denmark; they are almost everywhere and you can easily spend a few hours there. Maybe you find something, maybe not, but the search is a lot of fun.

In the larger cities and especially in the market towns there are very “hyggelige” town centers that offer a combination of cultural experiences, shopping and interesting buildings.

The most beautiful regions

FIV: Which regions in Denmark would you recommend for different types of travelers, for example families, nature lovers or culture lovers?

The most beautiful places for … Families & Kids

Feline: Depending on the age of the children: for young children East Jutland and the islands are suitable, because here they have many opportunities for fun in the water. When the children are older, the North Sea coast offers many opportunities and even bigger beaches.

The most beautiful places for … Nature lovers

Feline: The most beautiful is…

If you like to be near the sea, it doesn’t really matter much where you are in Denmark!

Most Germans vacationing in Denmark are on the route from Rømø to Søndervig. Although Ringkøbing Fjord and the Tipperne nature area offer great nature experiences, Denmark has much more to offer. North of the Limfjord, the landscape changes significantly. Sand dunes are much more prominent here, and the old fishing towns are a truly “hyggelig” experience.

Råbjerg Mile, a wandering dune; for children a huge sandbox. At the tip of Jutland two seas meet; a walk (or a tractor ride) is a very special experience. The view at the tip is unique. Often you can see seals in the water and on the beach.

The most beautiful places for … Culture lovers

Feline: Although I was born and raised on Fyn and therefore may be biased, I recommend the combination of Odense (Art Museum, Brandts, HCA Museum and House) and the coastal market towns (Svendborg, Faaborg, Bogense, Middelfart, Nyborg, Assens and Kerteminde) on Langeland (Rudkøbing) and on Ærø (Rudkøbing and Marstal). There are a variety of cultural experiences here. The distances are short, so you can experience a lot in a few days. As a bonus, you cross beautiful and varied landscapes and at the end, with the exception of Odense, you are always by the sea.

Vacation homes in Denmark

FIV: What advantages do you see in booking a vacation home in Denmark compared to other types of accommodation?

Feline: The freedom and large space, private terrace, barbecue facilities (hot dogs, another Danish specialty). Often there is a fenced property, which means that dogs can run free and children can play in the garden without worrying. There are no parking problems, as there is always room for several cars. The possibility of vacationing with grandparents or friends under one roof.

FIV: What tips do you have for first-time travelers looking to book a vacation home in Denmark?

Feline: Of course, the time of year plays a big role – but in general I recommend that you think about your requirements and wishes in advance. How many people are there, do you need a fenced property or not, or would you rather have a pool and sauna? From my own experience I can also say that if teenage girls are with you, you can never have too many bathrooms.

The most beautiful times of the year

FIV: Are there certain times of the year that you think are particularly recommended to visit Denmark?

Feline: Most Germans visit Denmark in the summer. This season is really beautiful in Denmark. The temperatures are very pleasant and are often between 20-25 degrees. When it gets warmer, the coasts are always easy to reach. As in Germany, the weather is unpredictable, but if it rains, you can easily find activities or sights indoors. The bright nights in summer are especially beautiful.

Spring, autumn and winter: Each season has its own charm!

Nature is changing and there are always great experiences to discover (cycling, hiking). You can actually say that the motto of the year is “Time for each other”.

FIV: What local activities or attractions near cottage locations in Denmark do you think travelers shouldn’t miss?

Feline: Of course, it depends on the location, but in general: beaches, hiking trails, bike paths, activities with dogs, local market towns, animal parks, museums and much more. Since the distances in Denmark are very short, as already mentioned, there are many possibilities to find the right offer.

Denmark past and present

FIV: What trends or changes in tourism to Denmark have you observed in recent years?

Feline: Many Danes rediscovered their own country during the pandemic and continue to vacation here. Another big change is the liberalization of cancellation terms; this is also a consequence of the pandemic. Today there are really short cancellation periods, often up to 45 days before arrival. In recent years we have also seen climatic events, such as the extremely high temperatures in southern Europe this year. When it is over 40-45 degrees Celsius and the sun is shining all day, it becomes too hot for some guests. I believe that in the future more guests will therefore choose more northern destinations, including Denmark.

Now another insider tip!

FIV: Do you have any personal insider tips or recommendations for travelers to make their Denmark experience even more special?

Feline: When I was a kid, my parents always vacationed in North Jutland, so it became a tradition. If I’m not there at least once a year, I feel like it wasn’t a “real vacation”. Later, I passed on my love for this part of Denmark to my daughters, and we often vacationed there together with my parents. It’s really great.

I started with Funen and I want to end with Funen. My insider tip for those who love the sea and the coast is that Fyn is the focus of Denmark for porpoises. There really is a large amount of them that you can watch from the coast; a great nature experience.

If you like fishing, the waters around Fyn offer really good opportunities, among other things, to catch sea trout.

Thank you very much!

We hope that you are as excited about the treasures of Denmark as we are. The enchanting nature, the rich culture and the warm people are waiting to be discovered by you. We wish you unforgettable adventures in Denmark! Thanks to our Denmark Local Expert Jørgen Laustsen from Feline!

Italy is one of the most popular travel destinations.”La dolce vita” attracts about 41,000 tourists from all over the world every year. Italy is not only known for design and fashion, but also for its vast mountainous landscapes, its seemingly endless coastline and sandy beaches, rich in history and a paradise for gourmets. Sights such as the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Milan Cathedral, the Colosseum in Rome, these have a great attraction. Italy is more varied than almost any other country, a holiday alone will not be enough! Architecture, painting, literature, film or music, the Italians have always been involved when it comes to art and culture. Names like Leonardo da Vinci, Pavarotti are known everywhere and have left their mark all over the world. Many people immediately think of Italy as Rome, a holiday home in South Tyrol or in Tuscany. But Italy has much more to offer, places and cities to explore and discover. All regions of Italy have one thing in common: the handmade pasta and pizza, the cappuccinos and ice cream nowhere else taste as delicious as in Bella Italia.

Rome: The capital of Italy

The cosmopolitan city of Rome has a world-class record of 3,000 years of art history, architecture and culture. The Vatican City of Rome is famous for two outstanding buildings: the Colosseum and St. Peter’s Basilica. These two monuments are a must and should not be forgotten. The city of eternal beauty steals your heart before you even notice it. In the eternal city there is always love in the air, Rome simply puts everyone in a romantic mood. There is probably no other city that has as many attractions as Rome, if you are looking for artistic and and incredible history, then Rome is definitely the right holiday destination.

The metropolis of Rome

Those who visit Rome for the first time will surely ask themselves what the highlights should be in any case on the program. The capital is inhabited by 2,8 million inhabitants. With more than 900 churches, there is no other city in the world whose appearance has been so impressively marked by the Catholic faith. You can visit Rome all year round, the Mediterranean climate with mild winters and warm to hot summers. The most pleasant time is probably in spring and autumn

Or would you rather invest in your own home by the sea? Here the FIV Magazine has summarized all important information about France for you.

Accommodation in France: Whether Brittany, Paris or Côte d’Azur

Hotels in France: central, in nature or on the beach

100% holiday feeling, no stress and lots of service – hotels are as uncomplicated as possible. Mostly you book a package tour, which includes flight, transfer to the hotel and the overnight stays. And the service starts as soon as one has checked in. Everything that could cause you worries is taken care of. During the holiday, one does not want to tidy up, cook or wash bed linen, this service is really relieving. The hotel also takes care of the children, if it has a Mini Club. Holidays in France can focus on different points, that’s why there are different types of hotels that are adapted to individual needs. From hotels by the sea, city hotels to organic hotels in the middle of nature, in France there is guaranteed to be something for everyone.

Holidays in France: Away from home

Holiday apartment in France – be at home somewhere else. In a holiday apartment you have your privacy and there are not only baguettes, croissants and crêpes but also a bratwurst. We are convinced by the comfortable furnishing which is practically typical for a holiday flat, somehow everything is a bit more homely than in a hotel. Besides, our four-legged friends can usually go on holiday without any problems. Dishwashers, which are available in almost every apartment, make washing up by yourself no problem. And you don’t have to set an alarm clock for breakfast anymore – you can simply decide for yourself from when to when there is food. So you can also treat yourself to a 3-course menu at the French restaurant across the street. Our FIV-tip: Ask your landlord for their insider tips. This way you will waste less time on disappointing sights and have more time to discover completely new places that even your neighbours who have been to Paris 5 times have never heard of.

Accommodation in a pension: Stay overnight in France

A short holiday in Paris ? There is no easier and cheaper way than staying overnight in a guesthouse. Pensions are usually run by one person or a family, which makes for a pleasant and familiar atmosphere. For tips and questions the landlords are usually there for you, they help you with their own experiences and give good advice. Comfort is not the highest priority in a guesthouse, but if you are just looking for a place to stay for a city trip, you will be in good hands. The service in guesthouses is limited to breakfast, but the accommodation is much cheaper than a hotel or an apartment. You just must not eat too many crêpes out, otherwise the money you save will be spent quickly.

Wellnesshotels in France: Relaxation for two?

Wellness holiday in an old château – with sea view, a glass of white wine from Bordeaux and Edith Piaf in the background. It could not be more romantic. Saunas and massages provide wellness for the body and delicious desserts and champagne provide wellness for the soul. In a French wellness hotel you get the all-inclusive package at the Silver Hotel, but it is a more expensive holiday option. But spending your wedding day in a wellness hotel in Paris? That is priceless.

Camping in France: Where & How?

Sitting by the campfire, watching the starry sky and feeling the nature – a dream. But camping can also be different: Family holiday with dog on the beach. Camping is a cheaper option than a hotel and offers many advantages. For example, just like in a holiday apartment, you can decide for yourself when to eat and also when to check in and out. If you don’t like the place where you are going on holiday, you can simply move on and spontaneously choose a new holiday destination. At various campsites, wellness is even on the agenda: a whirlpool, sauna and hamam are part of the facilities. Camping is possible all over France, but for your inspiration we have selected our top 3 camping regions.

Camping in Brittany

Camping in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region

Camping in Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Please keep in mind that wild camping is not allowed in France. So if you park your motorhome in the middle of nature and get caught, you can expect to be sent away or sometimes even pay a fine. However, parking your motorhome in a car park is allowed for up to 7 days, but it is important that there are no signs of camping activities, so no chairs, tables or umbrellas in front of the caravan. So it is easier to find a campsite, the fun is not expensive: beach view for 10 Euro sounds good.

Living in France: Buying real estate & renting

A house on the Côte d’Azur or an apartment in Bordeaux – having your own home in France sounds promising. A property is a good investment and can be rented out well in the time when in Germany the obligations call. When you finally find the time to travel to France in summer or over the holidays, it is pleasant to feel directly at home. Whether you dream of a ski apartment or a beautifuly renovated cottage in Brittany or Normandy – the prices for property in France are relatively reasonable. There is a balance between supply and demand and the property market in France is relatively unaffected by financial crises. Find out more about property in France here.

Why is it called France?

That is why the word “frank” also means “free”. The term ” France ” thus comes from the original name Franconia Kingdom and means the land of the Franks, the land of free people. This has not changed even with the arrival of the Franks in Gaul.

Who is greater France or Germany?

France has an area of 549,087 km² and Germany only 357,580 km², so France is larger.

Which areas belong to France?

France is more than the France métropolitaine, as the European continental France is called. The French territory also includes several overseas territories, the France d’outre-mer. These overseas territories date back to former occupations and the colonial history of France.
