Rolex Sky Dweller: Prices, models & waiting times

After Rolex had presented existing models of the most important models for a long time, Sky-Dweller’s display, which appeared as a brand new model, surprised many people. Rolex Sky-Dweller was launched in 2012 and its movement is protected by 14 patents. At the Basel International Watch and Jewellery Show 2014, Rolex added further models to the existing range. Similar to Day-Date, Rolex Sky-Dweller only offers precious metals: 18-carat gold, platinum and Everose gold. Due to its excellent workmanship and innovative mechanical principles, Sky-Dweller is more expensive than classic Rolex models such as the Submariner or GMT-Master II. The watch is one of the luxury company’s most popular models alongside the Daytona, Datejust, Day-Date, Explorer, Sea Dweller, Speedmaster, Submariner and Oyster.

The new Rolex wristwatches are available exclusively from official retailers. They are supplied regularly and decide independently to which customers they sell which watch. The current waiting period is up to three years.

Idea of the Sky Dweller

Sky-Dweller is an elegant watch for world travelers with two simultaneously readable time zones and an annual calendar. The reference time is indicated by the 24-hour display on the off-center dial, while the conventional hand in the center indicates local time. The annual calendar, called Saros, automatically distinguishes 30-day and 31-day months, controlled by a patented mechanism, and has a new display function: the month is shown in twelve windows on the outer edge of the dial – the current month is shown in red. The automatic date change depends on the local time. These features make the Sky Dweller a popular model of the luxury company.

Sea-Dweller and Deepsea

The waterproof Sea-Dweller can withstand a depth of 1,220 meters. The Deepsea can withstand water depths of up to 3,900 meters, which is roughly equivalent to three tons, perfect for deep-sea divers. Launched in 2008, the watch exemplifies Rolex’s leadership in diving watches and is the result of decades of collaboration with professional divers. GMT Master

The watch was specially developed for pilots at the time. It was designed to read the time in two different time zones simultaneously. The two-colored number disc is divided into two halves: one corresponds to the daytime hours, the other to the nighttime hours. The original colors of the GMT were red and blue. Travellers can easily adjust their local time using the winding crown without stopping the watch or moving the 24-hour hand. This allows them to read 2 times at the same time.

In 2018, the GMT-Master II was created in 18-carat Everose gold, and the dial was now brown and black ceramic. “018, the watch was now available in white gold with a meteorite dial. This dial was made from a rare piece of an iron meteorite that had traveled billions of miles before reaching Earth. The meteorite is mainly composed of iron and nickel, forming metallic structures. Therefore, each Rolex watch has a different and unique pattern on the dial.

Datejust

In 1945, the first Datejust was launched on the market. This watch is more for everyday use. The first Datejust was equipped with a Jubilee strap that was created especially for the watch. It has a fluted bezel that makes the watch distinctive. It had a yellow gold case. In 1954, Rolex introduced a magnifying glass above the date window. The new watch with automatic winding, high accuracy and date display quickly rose to success. At the same time, the first ladies’ version, the Lady Datejust, appeared. And to this day it remains one of the brand’s most successful models. The watch has undergone many changes over the years. The watch got a recognition value. Compared to other Rolex models, however, the Datejust offers the most variance: whether it is Arabic or Roman numerals, bars or diamond indications, numerous dial colors or different bezels.

Lady-Datejust: Timeless elegance

Whether 18-carat yellow gold, Everose gold or 18-carat. Lady-Datejust offers such a rich selection of variants that the customer is guaranteed to find her perfect watch to match her personality. Its many facets make the Lady-Datejust one of the most varied models in the Oyster Perpetual collection. Like all the other Rolex models, it is elegant and functional, in a small format that fits perfectly on a woman’s wrist.

The particularly feminine interpretation of the classic, the Lady-Datejust Pearlmaster, is presented. Mother-of-pearl is naturally elegant and beautiful. Depending on its origin, it can be pink, white, black or yellow. The shell can vary in color intensity and color structure depending on the part, which is why each Pearlmaster is special.

The bezel is individually manufactured. Each little stone is precisely inserted and optimally aligned according to its cut. Then the setter fixes it securely by bending the previously set gold or platinum towards the stone.

Day-Date

They all have something in common. It is one of the most popular Rolex watches. The Rolex Day-Date in solid gold on the wrist. In the US, the watch is known as the Rolex President. One specimen even surrounds a myth. The Day-Date with the engraving “Jack/ With love as always / Marilyn / May 29th 1962”. This is the model that Marilyn Monroe is said to have given to John F. Oyster Perpetual Milgauss

Created in 1956, the watch was specially designed to meet the requirement of scientists and withstand magnetic fields. The most important innovation inside the Milgauss: the magnetic shield. The Rolex provides impressive resistance to magnetic interference. Rolex itself calls the watch a technical advance in science. The orange second hand in the shape of a lightning bolt has been the distinguishing feature of the Milgauss from the very beginning. The green watch glass was introduced in 2007. The watch glass is made of scratch-resistant synthetic sapphire and ensures better readability. The dial is specially reserved for the model and is made of exclusive electric blue. The second hand and the indicators are filled with a luminous material and glow slightly blue in the dark.

Oyster Perpetual Pearlmaster

You will find the most beautiful diamonds in this watch. The Rolex Pearlmaster is a real gem. The watch is made entirely of diamonds, sapphires, rubies or emeralds. This watch also guarantees a water resistant case up to 100 meters. The diamonds that adorn the Pearlmaster are selected according to the strictest criteria and set according to the rules. Origin: Wilsdorf, Rolex & Models

The Rolex story began when Hans Wilsdorf invented the first waterproof wristwatch. The Oyster. In 1908, the Rolex name was invented, and within a few decades it became one of the most famous brands in the world.

The entrepreneur had a vision at that time. He was very determined and wanted to make a difference in the world. When men started wearing watches on their wrists instead of in their pockets in the early 1900s, it quickly became clear that the new watches would have to withstand much harsher conditions such as rain, moisture, dust and shock. So he invented the first waterproof watch on the market.

Hans was a kind-hearted person, always ready to question himself and at the same time motivate others to bring out the best in themselves. His perfectionism helped him improve his watches and found one of the most successful companies. The name Rolex comes from the French word “horlogerie exquise”. In German it stands for watches with high quality.

The founders found the name uncomplicated, easily pronounceable in all languages, and memorable. In 1931, Rolex invented the first winding mechanism for watches. This is still the heart of such watches today. The date display in a field also goes back to a Rolex invention. In the 1950s followed the development of models for professional use. The Submariner. It guaranteed a waterproof case that lasted up to 100 meters. Also, the names of the models often symbolized the purpose of the watches and adressed the target audience.
