Autumn: fashion show

This collection is futuristic in many ways. The idea behind it is that many fabrics and garments will serve multiple functions in the future. For example, a military jumpsuit becomes an evening dress or a blanket becomes a coat. This makes it clear that this collection is not only about style, but above all about functionality. The fashion show itself took place virtually. A select group of guests were allowed to watch the fashion show with the help of virtual reality headsets instead of attending it in person.

Spring: fashion show

This fashion show features only one model, American painter Eliza Douglas. She presents the collection with the help of computer-generated clones of herself. How clones can walk on a fashion show? The twist- It is not a real fashion show as we know and are used to, but a digital fashion show in the form of a video, organized with the help of advanced technology and special effects. “It’s a show that has never been done before. But the clothes are real. They were made,” said chief designer Demna Gvasalia.

50th Couture Collection: Fashion Show

This collection is the first couture collection since 1967 and a tribute to Cristóbal Balenciaga, the founder of the Parisian fashion house. After pret- à- porter fashion replaced couture, the Spanish designer retired. The brand was managed until 2015 by various designers who did not want to face couture. With Demna Gvasalia, the fashion house regains its former glory of the 50s and 60s. The initials C.B. were embroidered by hand on individual parts of the collection to commemorate the personal style of Balenciaga, for example, leather gloves or silk ties.

Fall campaign

A video game as a fashion show? The special situation of the pandemic calls for creativity! Balenciaga presents its fall collection on virtual avatars in the specially developed video game “Afterworld: The Age of Tomorrow”. The game shows a postmodern future in which you can explore the world of Balenciaga. The game’s hero walks through different virtual worlds and encounters different avatars, all dressed in pieces from the fall collection. In this video, experience the virtual mind of Demna Gvasalia and experience a fashion show in a way never seen before!

Summer collection campaign

Also for this video, the creative minds of Balenciaga have again worked at full speed and come up with something very special for this collection. In this campaign, the collection is presented by some, completely different looking mannequins. People from every ethnicity are adressed and show Balenciaga’s open world view. The mannequins look as extraordinary and eye-catching as the clothes. The highlight of the collection is definitely the iconic handbag “The Neo Classic”, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.

VIPs: Rihanna at the Met Gala

Megastar and style icon Rihanna is obviously a fan of the luxury brand, because she has been photographed in Balenciaga many times. Whether street style or on the red carpet, Rihanna is a Balenciaga girl. Rihanna also chose Balenciaga for her visit to this year’s Met Gala. You can see the black outfit just incredibly well. Collaboration: Gucci Aria

This is not a collaboration in the classic sense, but you can clearly see that designer Demna Gvasalia was involved. For the collection, which was created in honor of Gucci’s 100th birthday, Gucci designer Alessandro Michele was inspired by some of the pieces Demna Gvasalia designed for Balenciaga. Logo prints and the brand lettering are the flagship of this collection, also striking are the details reminiscent of equestrians, as Gucci’s history is deeply rooted in equestrian sports.
