Neva Akdag is a very young model currently living in Germany. She is now working with the best brands on the market and is making it big. Deva made her fashion debut when she was only 18 years old for the majestic Givenchy and now, one year later, we have her here at Fiv.

Germany As A Fashion Country

FIV: I saw that you are currently based in Germany. How do you find it here? 

Neva: The atmosphare in Germany here is fascinating me a lot. I‘m the most impressed by its long and rich history, one that has put it at the forefront of European thought, politics, and art for over 1,000 years. This history has shaped a culture that combines predominantly Christian values with literature, art, philosophy, logic, reason, and, of course, a love of beer and sausages.

FIV: How is modeling in Germany different from your home country?

Neva: The German market is very commercial compared to the main metropoles such as Paris, Milan & London where I am mainly working.

Paris: Perfect Place For Beginners

FIV: Is there a particular location that you can recommend to beginners or is it generally easy to start anywhere?

Neva: Personally I think Paris is an ideal city for a model to grow and develop, as it is the most “High-Fashion” city, but on the other hand every city has its own difficulties, but once you find the people who have your best interest at heart and challenge yourself to aspire for more, you have succeeded. 

Neva: Surround yourself with positive people who believe in your dreams. It helps that they know the business and can make things happen. Don’t give up on your goal; this is a beautiful career that many people dream of, but few have the opportunity to keep dreaming, work hard and have faith. In short, to have a good career I would recommend all New Faces to start in Paris.

Givenchy: Worldwide Exclusive With Neva

FIV: You now model for big brands like Fendi, Moschino and Balmain. How did you feel about your very first job for such a brand and which one was it?

Neva: My first job was the worldwide exclusive runway show for Givenchy by Matthew Williams right after my studies in Germany. I still get butterflies remembering it. It was an epic show: the atmosphere backstage was electric and walking the runway was an adrenaline rush. Plus, I got to meet and work with creative, talented and authentic people.

Neva: As soon as the music played and the camera started rolling, my heart started beating to the rhythm of the music. It was one of the memories I will never forget. I am very grateful to everyone and especially to Matthew Williams, who gave me that unforgettable memory.

Modelling Takes Time: Patience

FIV: How long did it take to get there?

Neva: It has taken me years of hard work to get to the point where I am now.  First of all, I did some test shoots for my book, in addition to my economics studies in Germany, as my school was very difficult and challenging, and up to that point I only wanted to focus on my school. Right after I graduated in economics, my agent called me to tell me that Givenchy wanted me for their Paris fashion show as a world exclusive, and right after that I started my international career as a full-time model at the age of 18 (I am now 19).

Catwalks Or Shoots: Neva’s Favorite

FIV: You are both on the catwalk and in front of the camera. What do you prefer to do running on a fashion show or photo shoot jobs, and why?

Neva: Honestly, I love doing both. On shoots it’s inspiring to work with someone who has a clear vision and cares about every detail. There is an overwhelming power that comes from working alongside titans of fashion. I don’t quite know how, but they have the power to transform your life with their influence. It makes you feel invulnerable to the scorn of others.

Your Energy Introduces You

FIV: There is certainly a lot of competition at castings for such big jobs, but do you sometimes find new friends there too?

Neva: I always love to meet new people, it doesn‘t matter for me in which kind of competition situation. I especially admire every people’s unique energy which they are emitting, it‘s so fascinating to me because everyone has an own kind of personality and soul.

Give your energy to the right people, be the person that spreads goodness, loves every soul, connects deeply, stays gentle, gives warmth and has compassion, and then everything will fall into its right place. There is so much beauty in being a good person with pure intentions.

Don‘t forget: Your energy introduces you before you even speak.

Our Differences Makes Us Beautiful

FIV: What changes would you like to be a part of in the modeling world?

Neva: I don’t think I am influential enough to be able to make big changes in the modelling world. However, if I could in the future, more than the modelling world, I want all models to have a healthy mindset and know that they are all beautiful in their own way. Many times, models are bluntly judged for their looks and they just have to take it in and laugh about it. I think these situations are unavoidable because we often work with our looks. I want all models to know that when we are judged it is only one person’s opinion. We don’t have to take it personally and try to change something just because of that person. We are all special in our own way and not everyone can love us.

Kyiv: The Unknown Fashion City

FIV: You have been modelling since a long time ago. When and how did you start modeling?

VALERIA: I started modeling at very young age. First I signed with mother agency in town close to my hometown named Donetsk in 2011,I was 13 back then. I had some experience working in Ukraine and after couple years they sent me on my first working contract to Tokyo when I just turned 15.

FIV: So as you started in Ukranie you must know perfectly how the Ukrainian industry works. From your own experience, how does modelling in Ukraine differ from, for example, Paris?

VALERIA: Yes it is very different. Paris is one of the most important locations in fashion industry but I would say that Kyiv is becoming very fashionable. People around look very stylish and modern. 

A Fashion Industry Destroyed By A War

FIV: I take this opportunity to give you strength now that we are living a terrible incident. How do you see the impact of the war on the model market?

VALERIA: Fashion in Ukraine began growing after Ukraine got independence from USSR and started to look more at European side. There was plenty work in Kyiv or other big cities for models. Now I don’t work there much, I prefer to work with solvent clients, who are ready to pay more for a good model. But I hope that once war is over, economy will grow and every brand will have ability to pay good money to all team.

Model Standars In Ukraine: Classy Beauty

FIV: You are our first ukranian model. How is to become a model in Ukraine?

VALERIA: It’s very easy. First of all, we have a lot of amazing women. At the same time we have some good mother agencies, who are managing careers of top Ukrainian models and others. So I find it very easy, you just have to look through internet for a professional model agency. Personally me, I represented by System Ukraine.

FIV: What are the standards there or what are the requirements for new faces?

VALERIA: Standards in Ukraine for models I would to say the same as in Europe. A little bit of everything. You have to be tall, slim and have a model look. On my opinion, the most popular is classy beauty, the face that could do anything is leading. At the same time there’s a place for diversity. 

Asia’s Market: Good Option For Beginners

FIV: Was Ukranie a difficult place to build a career? Do you have any tips for beginners?

VALERIA: It was definitely a hard way to the point I’m at now. I born in a small city and first I started my career in Asia and I worked a lot in such markets as China, Hong Kong, Korea, Thailand or Japan to get some experience and portfolio. But if a girl already knows English, it will be much easier and faster for her to start working in main markets. So my advices to beginners is to start to prepare yourself even before the first work trip: learn English, do sports, eat healthy and take care of your skin and hair. Then it will be less difficulties on the way.

Ukrainian Model Making A Living From Modelling

FIV: Some models have a few jobs to pay the rents. Can you live only from modeling?

VALERIA: Yes, I find model salary one of the highest among all professions. If you work hard and you spend a lot of time improving your skills and being at the main markets, which means you have to travel all the time, there’s a chance to gain enough money for good level of living. Personally me, I live only from being a model and I’m very happy with it.

Valeria’s Next Step: Becoming An Actress

FIV: What is your dream? Which one could you perhaps already fulfill?

VALERIA: If we talk about career, I would say my dream is to do some actings. I feel that modeling and posing is only a half way and I need to move further to acting and playing and grow in that direction, but for now it’s only dreams.

Modelling: The School Of Live

FIV: What have you learned through modelling that can be useful in life?

VALERIA: Modelling is a school of life: you need to share lodging with others, find good communication with clients and team at the set, be educated, polite, respectful and responsible. Nobody is there to help, when you travel alone to another county with not familiar language and culture, you have to be ready to face all difficulties and besides you have to work hard, sometimes with no sleep, rest or time for food, during cold or hot outside and still make people like you and working with you.

Dispelling Modelling Myths

FIV: There are a lot of clichés, prejudices and misunderstandings about models and modeling, for example about eating habits. Can you maybe clear that up a bit?

VALERIA: Nobody will trust my words, but I can tell, in my life, people who eat the most are models. After hard working day we usually go together to eat pizza or pasta! Mostly, models have good DNA or they just do a lot of workouts to stay as fit as they are.

FIV: Anything else?

VALERIA: Also I would like to clear up cliché that models are stupid. Most of them speak at least 2-3 languages, they study in best universities, have diplomas and different hobbies. Because they open minded and travel a lot, most of them are very educated and interesting persons.

Anej: In Love With The Creative Industry

Anej is not only a model, but also an actor in the film industry. His jobs have taken him around the world and he even lived in Italy for a while. He is very satisfied with the jobs he has achieved so far and, unlike others, has very different dreams and wishes for his future.

Modeling And Acting

FIV: First I want to thank you again for taking the time for the interview. You are not only a model, but also a film actor. Did you start modeling or acting first? When and how did you start it?

ANEJ: Yes, that is correct. I started modeling first, in fact I have been modeling for over 10 years now. I started at 16 by moving to Milan, after I was discovered in a shopping mall in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

FIV: Does one of the two appeal to you more?

ANEJ: So far I don’t have enough acting experiences to really distinguish massive differences between the two. But I most definitely enjoy being ‘’on set’’ and working with great creatives which is why I’m in this industry from the beginning.

FIV: Despite not yet having so much acting experience, can you say that you can combine them, modeling and acting, well?

ANEJ: I would hope so (laugh). Modeling has definitely changed my life. I was able to travel all over the world, gain valuable contacts and receive working Visa in USA, which is not the easiest.

FIV: So modelling has already made a lot of things possible for you, but those are both jobs where you need a lot of luck to really make a living. Can you do that?

ANEJ: So far, I was always able to do that therefore let’s hope it continues. There are some times where there isn’t as much work and other times it is extremely busy and I have to travel to 5 countries in a month.

Advices For Getting In

FIV: Can you give people who are also interested in this industry some advice on how to get started?

ANEJ: Don’t! Run! (laugh). I would definitely advise youngsters coming up, to have several things ‘’on the burner’’, meaning never bet everything on one sole thing. Also always be punctual and your own bellwether.

Traveling Around The World

FIV: As we can see and you already mentioned, you have also traveled an incredible amount. Was that related to jobs or could you afford it through jobs?

ANEJ: Both. Most of traveling was done as a cause of work. I have always been enamored by travel and my favourite lifestyle will always be globetrotter and sightseer. Usually when I’m free off work I do the opposite and I just stay in and avoid people and places.

FIV: Well, you have to switch off sometimes and everyone needs some time for themselves. What was the most beautiful place you have been to?

ANEJ: Rio De Janeiro during Carnaval season was spectacular. The energy of the city was intoxicating, the vibrant colors everywhere were captivating and alluring..and of course the Ipanema Beach itself is a treasure.
I also love spending my time in Capri, Italy or Lago di Como where I used to shoot a lot while I lived in Italy.

Jobs And Dreams

FIV: That sounds amazing, especially living in Italy must be wonderful. What was your biggest and most exciting job so far?

ANEJ: My biggest job was definitely working for Calvin Klein, or Pierre Balmain when I was blonde and just starting out in the world of fashion. I also loved my L’Officiel Cover shoot or a 3 day campagin shoot I did in Singapore.

FIV: That already sounds great. Do you still have a particular dream that you would like to make come true?

ANEJ: I most definitely do, however out of habit I never talk about things that aren’t out yet. In general I want to be happy and successful in whatever I choose to do. And I will always want to have a lot of freedom.

Maisie: Believe In Yourself

With a great agency at her side, MOT Models, Maisie has developed into the model she is today. You need a lot of self-confidence for this job, and she tells us how she got it. She also has some other tips for newcomers to the life of a model. But she is not only interested in modelling. There are several jobs in this field that are mostly hidden behind the scenes. It’s Just About You

FIV: Thank you so much that you took some time for our interview. You are still young, so do you still go to school or study besides modeling?

MAISIE: I don’t study, I left collage when I was 17 and pursued modelling as I have always been into fashion.

FIV: When you were always into fashion it must be the perfect job for you, but where did the self-confidence come from for modeling with only 17?

MAISIE: I think I gained more confidence when I stopped caring so much about what everyone thought about me. If you doubt everything you do, it’s going to hold you back in life and you won’t grow. I realised the only persons opinion that matters are your own. The longer I modelled and did shoots the more confidence I got with posing and other little things. I had less confidence when I was trying to fit into other peoples and societies beauty standards, this made me extremely self-conscious and unhappy. But I noticed that I shouldn’t be trying to be the same as everyone as we are all beautiful and was born a certain way for a reason. Beauty standards change so much in this era, its hard to keep up! There is a ridiculous amount of pressure on the younger community. So, I hope everyone can look in the mirror and be happy the way they are. The world is a more beautiful with you in it. My agency, MOT Models, boosted my confidence from when I joined and I’m lucky to be working in such an amazing team with wonderful people which feels like a little family.

Life Next To Modeling

FIV: That’s great that you have such a nice agency especially because modelling is very demanding and also time-consuming. How can you combine your job as model with school, studies or private life?

MAISIE: There can be gaps in between work so being flexible is key which is why I work my part time job around my modelling schedule every week. School has to come first but once you have gained what you need and feel like you’re ready to leave education, it’s good to continue learning on your own and having active interests that you are keen to learn about. Doing activities and working gives me a healthy balance and keeps it interesting.

FIV: So can you do other hobbies on the side or do you already see your job also as a hobby?

MAISIE: No I see my job as work but work I enjoy. With my free time I love being around nature as I grew up in the countryside, I like to go on walks to nice viewpoints with my hammock, I really appreciate time to myself or with my friends. I love the quiet compared to the city.

The Best About It

FIV: So since you are enjoying your model life. What do you like the most about modeling?

MAISIE: The thing I like the most about modelling is I get to the opportunity to meet lots of different amazing people from all over the world. You learn about lots of different things from people with another perspective that opens your mind. Every job is unique with different people and a different location so it never gets boring and you get to see and go places that you might of not have otherwise had the chance to see.

Beauty And Fashion

FIV: At the beginning you already mentioned that you were always interested in fashion. Do still know, how you became interested in beauty and fashion?

MAISIE: My first interest for beauty and fashion started when I was young. My grandad is an artist and I always wanted to be a fashion designer. He would teach me how to draw and I always loved the idea and freedom to be creative and create beauty in different forms. But now I am interested in styling instead of designing but who knows what might happen. I like to keep an open mind. My love and passion for drawing and art is still alive.

FIV:  So are there other professions that are interesting for you? I can imagine due to your love and passion for art, something in this direction.

MAISIE: There are a lot of different professions in the modelling industry as most are creative so I’m interested in a lot of different areas. I find photography very interesting and also styling. I would love to do this eventually in future as it seems fun and creative.

Starting Your Career

FIV: There are a lot of young people dreaming of a model life. What do you think is the best age to start modelling?

MAISIE: I’m not too sure if there is a right age to start. As I started when I was 17 and loved it, I have worked with models who started modelling from a young age or an older age so I don’t think there is a right age, its whenever you feel like you want to get in front of the camera. Everyone is different, modelling is fun and safeguarded with a proper agency it’s great for any age.

FIV: And what advice would you give to other younger models to start their career?

MAISIE: I get quite a few direst messages from young girls, women and men asking how they can pursue a modelling career or how to get into the modelling industry. I would always say make sure the agency is legitimate as there are agencies who take a fee while joining which should never be the case. Also, different agencies will sometimes have a different look they are after so don’t lose confidence of one turns you down. Apply to a lot of agencies, and I am sure you will find one that suits you best. You don’t need any professional pictures or a portfolio, all you need is a clear picture of yourself with very little or no make-up. Don’t lose hope if you don’t get signed to an agency and it takes you a while to get a paid shoot as this is normal and will sometimes take a while to get clients and so. While you are on set watch the other models you’re working with and ask questions this will help you pick up ideas and get in the flow for posing. It is really important to feel safe, so finding a good agency to have your back is essential.

Future Dreams

FIV: To finish, of course we want to get to know your dream. What dream do you want to fulfil with this profession?

MAISIE: At the moment I like modelling but eventually I would love to get into styling. Modelling is perfect as I get to work with the stylist on set alongside me and get an understanding of what the profession holds. Being in the fashion industry already has helped a lot with networking and meeting the right people to fulfil my dream. I have met some lovely people whilst working, who said they will allow me to shadow them to gain experience but as I will be learning from them, I just need to make sure I can take the time off work whilst being financially secure.

Sweden model industry is not as famous as others, but it doesn’t mean that successful models do not emerge. Here we can have a great example. Carl Tuleus is a sweden model working for the best brands of the market. Working all around the world, he starts his career in Sweden. This interview will help you to know how is becoming a model in a not popular model country. He moved abroad and came back to continue with his career in Sweden, and now he is explaing how the model industry works for him and what are his favourites experience in modeling. The Beginning In Modelling

FIV: Hello Carl, It’s a pleasure for us to have in FIV Magazine young and successful models like you. I think working internationally and having contracts with many agencies is a bit difficult to achieve and takes time. How long have you been modeling?

CARL: I’ve been modeling since 2017. When I started university, one of my classmates said “you know what, you look good in anything! I have a friend at an agency called MIKAs…” sadly her friend had quit her job, but luckily I got a meeting anyway. They said they would email me a yes or no. I remember that I, as a joke, said that it was like tinder and two days later they emailed “it was a super like”. They never stopped being that sweet.

FIV: So, you get scouted by a casuality but, have you ever thought about become a model? Was it always your dream job?

CARL: I was scouted when I was 16 on a power walk and tried to get signed around that time, but it didn’t work out. I had at that time been told by a friend that “you need to burn all your bridges to have one road to go”. Horrible advice, you shouldn’t have one dream or one road. Because you end up feeling like a failure, if you never have something working out for you.

FIV: Not easy for you. I supposted you don’t give up.

CARL: I don’t. I moved abroad, Portugal and then Germany and finally moved back to Sweden because I got into the university where I got my bachelor in journalism and ethnology. The first semester was when I met the classmate, and now friend, that knew a booker at MIKAs. In the end that’s how I got into modeling, by pursuing another dream!

One Dream Job: Jacquemus

FIV: During your long career you have worked for many brands, one of these is Rick Owens, for who you walked. But there are still many others. Do you have any dream job?

CARL: Jacquemus. My best friend Lisa Mård, who’s a nail artist based in Germany, inspires me on a daily basis but she inspired me to start writing manifestations. So I have a list of brands in my iPhone notes. Jacquemus is the top one though.

FIV: Why Jacquemus?

CARL: It’s the way Simon Porte Jacquemus is able to portray masculinity in such a beautiful way. The timeless design and how the clothes are not set to one age group. His grandmother wearing the pink suit? Died. Also I am obsessed with designers such as Simon that are close or vocal about their relationship to their mothers, so of course Riccardo Tisci is a designer that I’m daydreaming of too.

Luck Or Consancy?

FIV: I see you know exacly whats are your objetives and where you want to go.What do you think is more important for achived it, luck or constancy? Why ?

CARL: As an industry, modeling can be very dependent on luck. You can walk past someone and be scouted or casted, it’s not in your hands who the casting agent will pick, in moments you’re left to faith or luck. While as a model you can be consistent in keeping up with the trends, not giving up, working hard and staying relevant if that makes sense.

FIV: Even if you failed?

CARL: That is the most important, you need to fail. That’s when constancy is most important. I said this to my friend who’s an actor, if you’re not giving yourself the 50 non-callbacks you’re not going to get the one call back. So by allowing yourself to get 99 no’s you’re also giving yourself the opportunity to get a yes. In the end I think the most valuable thing for a model is: patience.

The pressure of a casting

FIV: Well, a very important step to get jobs are the castings and I supposted you went to many. Can you explain to us how you prepare for a casting? Do you feel a lot of pressure?

CARL: My agent once told me what the casting agent looked for in the model, which I think makes you feel a little more “in control”. So what you can do is try to prepare yourself as you would do for a date and ask them “what are you looking for?”. Depending on what type of casting. Usually these days you also need to show up and be unique, have your own thing going on, but at the same time show that you’re versatile. Tricky thing.

How to control the pressure

FIV: If you had to give some tips for beginners,as your agent did with you, which would it be? What is, for you, the best way to deal with that preasure ?

CARL: My advice would be to be able to handle anything that comes your way. Not putting value to everything you hear. As you mentioned I walked for Rick Owens, which was one of my first jobs. I remember being in Paris and how one designer/casting guy said, while I was showing them my walk, “maybe you should stop thinking about dick”, because they thought I was walking too feminine. I had been obsessing over runway/walking compilation videos since I saw the clip of Alek Wek throwing off her blonde wig. So I stood there pale and thrown off by the comment.

FIV: Wow, It should be hard for a beginner. What happened after that? Did it sink you or did you come back stronger?

CARL: I Left shortly after, sat on a bench in Paris and watched male models walking on YouTube. My agent called me and told me that they wanted to see me again. I went back. “Yes, there it is, now you got it.” the same guy said, I snapped my finger in the air as a response and he said “well don’t do that”. Now, we have male models like Leon Dame walking for Maison Margiela or Alton Mason walking on their own terms and ways. So be ready for anything and remember that you’ll hear hundreds of things, but you can decide what you’re going to listen to.

Carl’s advice for new models

FIV: To finished this interview. I think young model who are reading this would love if you can give they any advice to start their career.

CARL: “Reinventing yourself” is my favorite thing to do, don’t be afraid to try different things and change your image.

Charlotte Pirroni – Influencer, model and mommy

FIV: Hello Charlotte! How are you? Can you introduce yourself in a few words please

Tips to keep smiling during the lockdown

FIV: How do you always smile and keep your spirits up during the lockdown?

Charlotte : Thank you, that’s very kind! Given the current situation and atmosphere, and in normal times too, I assume that a smile doesn’t cost anything, the positive brings the positive, and a smile and good vibes can perhaps change (I hope) the day of the people who follow me and who may be going through a bad period.

FIV: What’s your favourite music at the moment?

Charlotte : My favourite music is TADOW from MASEGO & FKJ. It is both soft and rhythmic. It relaxes and motivates me at the same time. It also allows me to escape. If I close my eyes, I can quickly imagine myself under the coconut trees in Mauritius.

Autumn-Winter 2020 fashion trends

FIV: What are your favourite fashion trends for this fall-winter 2020?

Charlotte: I would say my favourite fashion trends for this season are :

• The Blazer Coat

• The trench coat

• The nude bags

FIV: You have beautiful hair! What’s your secret?

Charlotte : Thank you for this kind compliment. It is particularly touching for me because after my delivery I lost a lot of hair and it was quite hard. For a woman, no matter what you think, hair is important. It’s not just a question of looks, it also affects your morale. I use different haircare lines from different brands, I try to change regularly and go to brands that care about the composition of their products (hellobody, Pomelo…) And finally, I’ve been living again since I discovered the Dyson Air Wrap that makes my hair so soft and shiny. It’s also much less damaging to hair than a regular iron.

Self-confidence with Charlotte Pirroni

FIV : As a Model, do you have any advice to give to women who lack self-confidence ?

Charlotte: As a model, what I can say to all women is that they are beautiful the way they are. I’ve lived very delicate moments in this environment, where some clients can talk openly in front of us about our physique, a detail that could be disturbing to highlight certain products, as if they were talking about an object. And very often, they don’t realise it because they are fully committed to their objectives, stressed by the result of the campaign or otherwise. Or they will talk about a physical detail that we hadn’t even noticed and that we’ve been noticing ever since, and which can quickly become a complex. But I understood as I grew up that you can’t please everyone, otherwise you would please everyone. My goal is to be the best version of myself so that I feel good in my head, in my body. I’m talking to you about that, even if at the moment I still have a lot of complexes, when I look at myself in the mirror, I’m not satisfied and I’m very demanding, which doesn’t help.

Everybody has a complex or complexes, it’s human and nobody is perfect, and I’m far from it but I don’t care. That’s the goal I try to give myself every day and that helps me little by little to have self-confidence. I try to accept my complexes, to learn to live with them and love them. I think that the most important thing is to enjoy yourself first, that’s the most important thing, and confidence will inevitably follow. It’s all in the head.

Chanel – Timelessly elegant fashion in the name of female emancipation

Today’s fashion giant was brought to life in 1913 by Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel. At the age of 30, the Frenchwoman, who was born from a poor background, opened her first Chanel boutique in Deauville, France. Her wide dresses and rather comfortable cuts met with both rejection and applause at first. Her simple yet elegant designs were untypical of the 1910s fashion. The famous ‘Little Black’ later helped the style icon to international success. Since its breakthrough, the brand has also been celebrated for its quilted leather handbags with quilted seams and metal link chains. The Chanel No. 5 perfume is also one of the absolute must-haves for every Chanel fan.

Glamorous and bold fashion for winter

The winter outfits always have leather boots with high heels despite wind and weather. Likewise, the elaborate hairstyles are dispensed with in winter. In contrast to the hairstyles in summer, here the hair is tied together only to a simple braid or simply combed open back.

For Virginie Viard, the mirror staircase is the starting point for every collection. Over the past 30 years, explains Chanel, it has always been Virginie Viard who has worked closely with the Métiers d’Art Ateliers, researching and experimenting with them. She opens her first Métiers d’Art collection as successor to Karl Lagerfeld with black coats made of soft cashmere bouclé, decorated with chiffon ribbons embroidered with gold-coloured pearls and sequins.

Autumnal collection with cool tones and casual cuts

In the style of the 1968 film “The Does” by French director Claude Chabrol, female models walked together across the catwalk and chatted like confidants at first glance. The models wore stylish black leather boots in a retro look, with a bell-shaped brandy collar in the middle of the calf, which became the leitmotif of the collection.

Exciting and innovative outfits in a quiet environment

For her haute couture debut, Virginie Viard chose the backdrop of a library. The library was inspired by the library in Gabrielle Chanel’s daytime apartment on Rue Cambon (the legendary designer slept in the Ritz next door) with its chic bindings in gorgeous chestnut colours and by Galignani, the legendary bookshop on Rue de Rivoli, which counted bibliophile Karl Lagerfeld among its most important customers.

In a gloomy yet cheerful show, in which airiness and substance, shrugging elegance and unbridled joy were captured, the farewell to the tremendous talent of Karl Lagerfeld was framed just as he had imagined. He led us on a beautiful day to a place high in the mountains. It was a snow-covered refuge – a piece of the Chanel sky, seen from a distance that was touchingly difficult to bear.

Delicate dresses and stylish hairstyles for the summer

One thing is particularly striking in the summer collections. The collections for the warmer seasons usually include dresses rather than trousers or skirts. As described above, the models’ hair is often more elaborately draped, gelled or sprayed in summer.

Unique prêt-à-porter on the roofs of Paris

Up on the roof chez Chanel, a procession of long-legged girls on flat heels, appearing in tweed playsuits, tiny silk trousers, garçonne dresses and small bell-shaped skirts. Where Lagerfeld may have worn funny pun accessories, it was Richard’s instinct to undress and emphasize the essence of the silhouette and tweed Chanel textures in a related context – who could dare to imitate his wit, after all?

Virginie Viard’s haute couture presentation Chanel saw us in the romantic garden of a monastery, miraculously located in the cold immensity of the Paris Grand Palais. In imaginative retellings of her autobiography, Chanel described the strict and unforgiving nuns of the convent as “aunts”. Nevertheless, these teachers taught the young Chanel how to sew and thus gave her the tools to build a life as an independent woman in later years.

Exclusive fashion show with breathtaking scenery

The collection was presented downstairs in the large, up-and-coming room of the Grand Palais. Although there were train tracks here, there was no train, because who could outshine the steaming trains of John Galliano’s sensational haute couture show for Christian Dior in autumn 1998. Instead, Viard transformed the vast space of the Grand Palais into a train platform, the audience sits expectantly on old-fashioned benches, and the building’s existing Art Nouveau architecture is successfuly reminiscent of a station for giants from the turn of the century.

Chanel’s first swimsuit makes its debut in a royal garden

Outside the Grand Palais at sub-zero temperatures in Paris it may have snowed, but inside Karl Lagerfeld took us to a sunburned Italian villa where terracotta oleander urns flanked an inviting pool and cypress and palm trees shaded sandy paths, stone balustrades and a curved staircase.

The ‘Making of’ Chanel – From studio to catwalk

Especially Chanel is known to take his audience behind the scenes on YouTube. No matter if it’s preparations for the Fashion Week, the hectic rush in the backstage area just before the show starts or the making of the latest collections.
