Fendi – Innovation & Luxury fashionably combined

The Italian fashion label was founded in 1918 by husband and wife team Adele and Edoardo Fendi. Originally their fashion was limited to furs and hats, but later expanded to include clothing and other accessories. After the couple’s death, their five daughters Paola, Anna, France, Carla and Alda took over the company and hired German designer Karl Lagerfeld as the house’s creative director in 1965. The fashion brand had established itself as a luxury brand mainly due to Lagerfeld’s fur collection, which he presented at the fashion show “Haute Fourrure”. So that the brand could also achieve commercial success, the first ready-to-wear collection was launched shortly afterwards. Currently there is also a children’s collection called “Fendi Junior” and the furniture collection “Fendi Casa”.

For the women’s summer collection, the fashion house relied on lots of floral prints, white terrycloth and cotton. The collection was understated with classic cuts, wide woven pockets and muted colours. Highlights here were brown suede wrap dresses and floral mottled fur. It was also noticeable that there was not a single high heel during the show. “I want women to feel natural and good in these dresses,” Venturini Fendi said, emphasizing the practicality of the collection.

The women’s collection 2020 resembled a fashion rebellion. Freeing oneself fashionably from the double standards that many women encounter in everyday life was the focus here. This was made clear by the ambiguity of the materials (something that is typical Fendi) and the almost identical dresses, which were similar in cut, but differed in the details almost as opposites as day and night. With wicked boudoir pieces and a pink padded catwalk, this fashion show was like one big thrill ride where you never really knew what was coming next.

The 50th anniversary fashion show was all about fur. Chinchilla, sable and mink – the royal class of furs and their innovative looks, which had been created over the past decades under Lagerfeld’s creative direction, were always the focus. Shortly before the fashion show, the creative direction of the house announced that they wanted to “work on the essential components of the classic wardrobe of a man of tomorrow”. Gianni Versace & His Unconventional ‘Neo-Baroque’

The luxury brand Versace was founded in 1978 by the Italian Gianni Versace. The first fashion show followed in the same year. The decisive factor here was the support of the German textile merchant Albert Eickhoff, who had already discovered the talent of Versace, who was still unknown at the time. Thus the fashion show did not take place in Milan, but in the German town of Lippstadt.
