Speaker Agency – Learning is something that never stops. We start with our parents, in kindergarten, come to school, do training or study, attend workshops, training and further education, learn languages, arts. Out of personal passion or to earn more money. Many companies invest a little more and book real experts for their company and their employees. Many names are only known in professional circles, others are prominent and known to all. We caught up with the owner of a speaker agency today to talk about the industry, processes and speakers. What are important topics for businesses, what are trending topics? Maybe you have some valuable knowledge of your own that you can share. But let’s start at the beginning!

Tip: In the second part of the interview we talk about becoming a speakerbecoming a speaker. Super interesting for you if you want to earn money with your knowledge. Thanks to Keynote Speaker One: Speaker Agency (external).

Speaker agency, experiences and trend topics

FIV: How can we imagine a speaker agency, what exactly do you do and for whom?

First of all, working in an agency, as a manager, is of course not as spectacular as the work of the speaker himself! It is an office job. Still, there are some great aspects, like all the interesting people you meet on the job. Whether on the speaker side or the client side. You also learn a lot, of course, in preliminary meetings but also at events.

About our work, we handle everything behind the scenes so that clients and speakers are relieved of as much work as possible. Time is money, so we do everything from research to organization to billing, simply put.

If you summarize the agency’s activity, it’s about outreach, for one thing. Why? So that we can win interesting new projects, clients and orders.

In the second step it is all about the mediation, the whole process, from the first contact with the customer, the conception, depending on how elaborate the presentations are or should be, to the speaker selection, sometimes also the speaker finding, the contracts, travel management.

A third important field, reputation. Especially because we also work with prominent speakers. The daily work is then mainly communication and organization! Many emails, many phone calls, is ultimately the job is planned and done.

In between, of course, you get to travel yourself, experience a few events and, as I said at the beginning, you learn a lot of new know-how and get to know very interesting people and characters!

Experience as a speaker

FIV: You don’t run the agency alone, you have a whole team behind you. That would be difficult, because you are a speaker yourself. Is there still time for the agency and does that help you in the placement of jobs?

Yes, the experience as a speaker helps a lot with the agency work! On the one hand, because I can put myself in the speaker’s shoes, from the first, small presentations to the large events, with hundreds of guests, or participants or listeners.

Depending on the type of concept to be implemented, lectures, mentoring, workshops, the range is wide. I often have to present complex issues in a simple way. For speeches, there are topics that have to fit onto 30 slides for the presentation. That helps to give clients confidence. I know the pressure of deadlines, the preparation, but also the stage fright before big events!

At the same time, I am able to speak empathetically with clients directly, even when it comes to fears, as I have just said in the case of deadline pressure or also in creative input, for example with new topics or impulses that are intended to make people ready for the future, i.e. often employees and managers.

At the same time, I can also support speakers, even those who do not regularly give talks and often still want support with topics, structure. This often happens when we book special experts that we have first researched for the client. Both combined, creates a good mix of experience, support and also forward thinking, which many customers appreciate in the work.

FIV: You said stage fright, do you still have any?

It depends on how you define stage fright. I’m excited and anxious, that’s for sure!

Evergreen Topics: Business, Money, Personality, Motivation

FIV: What are trend topics and what are topics that are actually always commissioned by companies when it comes to further training, workshops and so on?

Topics for trainings, workshops and speeches that always work are mainly contents around personnel, managers. Motivation is also a very big topic! Motivation can be diverse, from private individuals who want to start their own business, filling large halls, to very small lecture series with 20,30 executives.

Then of course the large areas of politics and economics, here expertise is always needed in various aspects. Likewise everything around finances, for banks, insurances, these are typical topics, which renew themselves constantly alone, by the change in the world. Laws change, political relations, new markets emerge.

Money, taxes, tax avoidance. As you can see, the range of topics is broad. But it is always about building knowledge.

Trend Topics: What does the future hold?

FIV: What is currently in vogue with clients, which topics are on the rise?

Spontaneous? Sustainability in general. Many industries want to reduce their own consumption, for political, ideological reasons or also for their own image. Now fashion immediately comes to mind, but it’s also about sustainable construction, in the field of real estate and urban development. In any case, sustainability is a trendy topic of the time.

In the field of media and advertising, the current focus is on social marketing, how do you reach people via social networks, how can you as a company deal with the large data packages (Big Data)? Facebook, YouTube, Instagram have only been around for a few years and TikTok is brand new. What will be next? The trend is generally everything around digitalization, virtual reality, industry 4.0, up to gaming, a multi-billion market.

FIV: What is booked more often, the “classic” topics or “new” topics?

Classic topics: Finance, money, personality, motivation, continuing education in entrepreneurial segments from purchasing, to personnel, to sales. Is because every company has a department for purchasing, pretty much everyone has personnel and also sales, so sales. Every year, millions of new workers enter the labor market, and their knowledge must be built.

Special topics, let’s say something like Industry 4.0, then only affects a smaller part of the automated industry. A large part of the industry itself, economy, but also trade are primarily unaffected.

Prominent speakers: VIPs at events

FIV: Can you also book celebrities as speakers?

Yes of course, celebrities are very popular to be booked by clients. As described before, it is not always “only” about knowledge, but also about self-confidence, personality, motivation, especially with celebrity speakers, it is less about the real deep matter.

A typical situation: Several departments come together for a company event. In other words, employees from different departments who perform different tasks in the company. Some have knowledge in IT, others in sales, some from accounting and still others are in product development. Well-known people, or their public history and / or success story, have a positive effect on the participants. The speaker does not have to explain himself, he is known.

The bigger the name of the celebrity, the stronger the PR effect, both internally and externally. This prestige brings the company directly and indirectly image advantages, PR and also internally, a positive brand charisma, to employees and other stakeholders.

However, as I said, celebrity speakers are not only booked for public events, but also, for example, to coach just 20 or 30 executives.

Sometimes even the investment banker can learn something from the celebrity.

FIV: Do you have a little example of prominent person for me?

One of my personal highlights, as I am also involved in finance and real estate myself, was recently in Frankfurt, for a London-based financial company. In the context of the European Football World Cup, we were able to win Jana Azizi (RTL News presenter Sport, formerly Sky News) for the company. A great person, with charisma and profound knowledge in her subject. The location was in Frankfurt, about 100 top-class guests were invited, who were flown in from all over the world to take part in this one-day event. In her lecture she dealt with the current women’s football. An interesting overview, briefly in the history and especially in the present and future.

I can tell you that much.

FIV: Thank you so much for your answers!

Part 2: Become a Speaker

Read now part 2 of the interview – What does a speaker do? How much does a speaker earn? How does one become a speaker? After our speaker agency interview, we got some feedback on the topic of being a speaker and becoming a speaker. So today we had a quick catch up with the owner of the Keynote Speaker One agency to talk about the question that many of our readers are interested in: How do I become a speaker? How much does one earn as a speaker? Can anyone become a speaker? We also wanted to start off by finding out how virtual speaking is changing the world of speaking – or is it? We’ll find out now, in the second interview.

Good entrepreneurs are always good salespeople. After all, sales are an absolutely essential part of any business. There are some business areas where the performance of the products is absolutely doubtful, yet there are resourceful traders who can sell everything. Not around otherwise, there are old-proven proverbs like “that can sell even vacuum cleaners in the Sahara”. Of course, this applies not only to the vacuum cleaner representative, but also to new digital media. Today there is a personal look at role models!

Who are the top entrepreneurs when it comes to success?

Especially the topic “earn money” attracts many who want to earn money with the “earn money”. The products behind it are absolutely dubious and mostly just standard know, stolen together from the internet. In so-called webinars (recorded videos that seem as if they are currently being recorded by chance) but also in personal conversations, methods are promised to earn money quite simply. Ultimately, it is rip-off that one “earn money coach” recommends the products of the other “earn money coach” and so earn in the end the provider. In return you get nothing but a few PDF’s and the mentioned webinar.

The classic electric blanket on the coffee drive, completely pointless and overpriced. Nevertheless she is brought to the man and there are buyers! This is also the crux of the matter, there are entrepreneurs who sell and that without a real business model with added value. However, this is the smallest part of the entrepreneurs. The majority of entrepreneurs offer a great business model and are good sellers at the same time. The perfect mix!

The goal for self-employed

So your goal is to be a good salesperson and also to offer a good business model with added value and benefits for the consumer.

Role models are important for young entrepreneurs, because of course you won’t find many friends who share the same lifestyle. From evening thoughts that are less about leisure time, more about new business or finances, to working hours. While most have a classic job from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., you’ll either be on the road much earlier or much later. But role models are also important in order to see how it can run. Everyone has their own favorites.

may it be a little “nerd”?

In my lectures I always have a few examples to show us how different types of entrepreneurs are. From personal legends like Robert Geiss, everything done right, from entrepreneurship to family, from absolute greats like Carsten Maschmeyer to trendsetters, well born like Kylie Jenner but also the absolute nerd icons like Elon Musk and my favorite story about space travel, automobiles, banking systems and a domain name x.com.

You can learn from them. Be it the marketing of Robert Geissen, the sales genius of Carsten Maschmeyer, the PR machinery around Kylie Jenner or one of the new icons of our current time, Elon Musk.

In addition, we take a very interesting look at the topic fail. Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos or Bill Gates. Everybody’s miscalculated before. Did you know?

Failed and Improved: Success Stories

Amazon wanted to found its own auction house (model eBay): Failed.

Amazon wanted to found a search engine (model Google): Failed.

Bill Gates (Microsoft) first software (still in high school) nobody wanted to buy it, even for free nobody wanted it, so he hired it. After that, “Micro-Soft”

Therefore we look on the one hand at the types of sellers, but we also take a short look at the other side of the moon, away from the functioning business models, at projects of the international top entrepreneurs who have failed.

5 role models – top entrepreneurs

Here’s my top five entrepreneur.

Robert Geiss – Fashion and real estate

I find Robert Geiss absolutely inspiring, because he has a great family, has been with his wife for ages, gets around a lot and earns money at the same time. I like the TV series best, especially the scenes where they look at real estate, like islands. Robert grabs a sheet of paper, sits down on the beach and plans the land and buildings directly. When I work on my real estate project, there is no better inspiration in visual terms.

Robert Geiss started his career in the family business, a carnival outfitter. Later he and his brother founded the fashion brand “Uncle Sam”, which he later sold profitably. Today he invests primarily in real estate. When I work on my new real estate project in the evening, there’s nothing better than watching the entrepreneur’s series on the side. A short excursion to the Maldives, a few new houses planned, maybe one bought by himself, all his marketing is extremely well clocked. The yacht is of course branded with the new fashion brand “Geissini”. The TV team accompanies the travels and his wife produces a song called “Jetset”. A little later the song becomes the title melody of the series. Vacation, family, marketing, business, all in one.

Carsten Maschmeyer – Financial products

Carsten Maschmeyer is one of the most interesting self-made millionaires. An absolute and genuine genius in sales. He made his big money with financial products, today he invests in numerous companies and of course is still involved in his old business. In Germany, Carsten Maschmeyer became known above all for his successful series “Cave of the Lions”. In the show, three to four investors evaluate pitches of young start-up founders. What distinguishes him is that he is a very analytical and strategically thinking person. In spite of his possibilities, he keeps a very low profile. When you hear him talk and talk, whether with TV cameras or behind them, you feel this absolute entrepreneur in every word and every sentence. He has managed to take financial products (insurance) for the mass market to a whole new level.

Kylie Jenner – Reality TV and Beauty

Kylie Jenner should be mentioned because she is one of the new phenomena. Well-known family, excellent starting possibilities and optimally used. At the age of 21, she became the youngest billionaire in the world. What an achievement! After all, she could have been perfectly resting on her millions, but she is still interested in business. Your parents will be very happy!

Kylie Jenner also shows you that origin is everything. In my life I have also met many entrepreneurs, who without their parental home probably would not have been able to anything. But if you get the right consultants at your side right from the start and don’t have to worry about finances, you’ve already won. Because this person and can immediately afford good employees and with that you do not have to think much yourself. What you have to deal with, there always will be. The only solution, you always have to run twice as long, twice as fast and twice as hard. If you do this for 10 or 15 years, you might be able to bring it to a similar level at some point. But it won’t be easy. Especially if you have such people as competition, it costs nerves. You have to work hard, the others are on vacation. You keep asking yourself, how can they afford it? The bitter realization, you have to go through it. Entrepreneurship is not a social club.

Elon Musk – payment system and space logistics

This man should not be missing from any list when it comes to role models for entrepreneurs. Elon Musk is certainly one of the most inspiring people in the world. It all started with Paypal and other projects, today he is one of the pioneers in space travel. An incredible career.

Briefly described, everything started with the revolution of payment systems, namely PayPal. The great smart one was the symbiosis with Ebay. Today PayPal is almost standard as a payment system. But Elon Musk already had good ideas before PayPal and of course afterwards. With Tesla, he discovered one of the new technologies of the future at an early stage and was the first to start mass production of electric cars. A few weeks ago, the 100,000 vehicle rolled off the assembly line. Meanwhile more and more car manufacturers are jumping on the trend. Of course also by threatening CO2 certificates but also to get a part of the cake. Sky is the limit! That’s why Elon Musk is of course also in the current race into space among the multi-billionaires. Elon Musk also knows how to use his own network and last year he launched a Tesla into space with a SpaceX launcher. Naturally worldwide with live transmission. Wow. Wow.

My favorite story is the one from x.com. As a nerd, I’m especially fond of this story. At that time Elon Musk sold the domain in a package. Now, many years later, he has bought it back for three million. The page is empty, hardly any source code, a simple X. Not even an https certificate has the site. The love for a domain can be so great!

Personal experience

Think big! A source of inspiration that I always carry inside me and even in tattoos on my skin. Big and small stars that stand for the fact that I always set myself goals that I will probably never reach. What’s the matter with you? If I only set myself small goals, I reached them quickly and then? Motivation is an extremely high drive. The higher the goals, the more motivating it is to be one of the few to achieve them. An example? After my advertising agency I absolutely wanted to found a model agency. The name “CM Models” had done it to me so, since all domains were free. Free PR with a slightly different brand name and the complete domain package. No sooner said than done. 24 months later, the entire network (3 agency brandings) was on page one. Not only in German, also in English for keywords such as:

Model Agency Berlin

Model agency Hamburg

Modelling agency Tokyo

Modeling agency Chicago

Modeling agency Los Angeles

All that’s missing is New York and London. If I had set myself the goal of becoming “number 1” digital in Germany, I would probably never have taken any other steps. It was clear right from the start that the brand positioning would be international and that all systems and structures would be designed in such a way that we could achieve the goal quickly and efficiently.

Set yourself big goals!

“Think big” or “stay hungry, stay foolish”.

Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs, the legendary founder of Apple, currently the most expensive company in the world. He died a few years ago and is still known to almost everyone today. Famous quotations like
“stay hungry, stay foolish”
have been quoted ten thousand times.

Projects can always fail. Somewhere I once picked up the saying, “Shit happens! Make a T-shirt out of it” – true words, because projects can always fail. More about: Why do Start Ups fail? 90% fail in the first 5 years: Top 11 Reasons why Start Ups fail.

Shit happens! Make it a T-shirt

Projects fail due to internal or external influences that you as an entrepreneur can sometimes not count on. For me it was the “Social Analytics” investment, for example. A few weeks after the launch of our software “Social Analytics”, Monitoring and Influencer Management for Instagram, we had to stop the service again. Our mistake, we had underestimated the risk that Facebook would restrict third-party access. Almost three quarters of a year of work and preparation were within seconds for the cat. So it’s not always just about opportunities and risks, advantages and disadvantages, even access restrictions, whether from social media networks or suppliers, can quickly put you in your place. After all, you have a beautiful story and learn from your experiences!

Many have failed with a business idea

As strange as it sounds, many icons from the business world say that they have always learned the most from their mistakes, sometimes even more, than from successes and the best ideas! You can then contribute your expertise to many discussions or projects. In this respect, you no longer have a business model, but your history and learnings, which will certainly be of interest to others.

At this point I would like to point out three quotes from great entrepreneurs, which I find very inspiring myself. Mister Thomas Edison has also had the experience of failure, the man to whom we owe the light bulb, among other things.

Quotes on failure

Even he liked to talk about his failed projects and still shapes entrepreneurs worldwide:

Mr. Thomas Edison

“I didn’t fail – I discovered 10,000 ways that didn’t work” – Mr. Thomas Edison

In the area of the great inspiring quotes and the great entrepreneurs, it is also worth taking another look at Mister Henry Ford. The man I already mentioned in relation to the calculation of marketing tasks with the sentence: “For every dollar you put into your product, you have to have another one ready to make the product known”. Henry Ford also frequently referred to the topic of “failed projects” and “failure” per se. The second quote that I will mention in the context of the book refers to the absolute beginning, the foundation. Starting a business is like playing football with friends as a little boy. It’s just fun! If you don’t take that into account, you give up quickly and that happens in most cases. If you manage to stay in the market alone for three, five, or even seven years, that’s half the battle, because most of your initial competitors automatically disappear after some time. So you don’t have to focus too much on the others. Concentrate on your success and on yourself as an entrepreneur. That’s why Henry Ford said:

Mr. Henry Ford

“There are more people who surrender than those who fail” – Mr. Henry Ford

To achieve all this, you need attention to detail and precision! That’s why here’s my favorite quote from Confucius. From spontaneous device failures of several notebooks in the office, to spontaneous flu waves in winter and high levels of illness, to demanding customers and projects, to waiting for the craftsman.

Confucius

“If one is not patient in small things, one brings the big projects to failure” – Confucius

Not only the old teachers have failed, of course the younger icons in business have also fallen on their noses a few times with projects.

Lose fear of the risk

So that you can continue to lose your fear of risk, here are three truly fascinating examples from the business world. Trial-and-error, that means trying and failing. The principle belongs, so to speak, to good entrepreneurship! Who does not also fail sometimes, dares in the reverse conclusion too little new. When they fail, it’s similar to the great buildings of history: We’re all talking about the pyramids that are still standing. Thousands and thousands of pyramids have been built. So that we do not always look only at the great successes, here is also a look at the attempts of large entrepreneurs to establish new business models.

failure at a young age: Today’s icons

Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon and currently the richest man in the world – despite a billion divorce and costs of over 35 billion – failed with several Amazon projects. Morten Lund, founder of Skype, one of the communication platforms for video telephony, slipped into bankruptcy twice. Then the story of Bill Gates, Microsoft founder, his first software first nobody wanted to have. In the end, he even offered it for free, but nobody used it. Shortly thereafter, he founded Microsoft. The rest is history! These three giants in the digital industry are friends of principle trial-and-error. A small excerpt:

Jeff Bezos (Founder: Amazon)

Beside all successful projects, like one of the biggest online shops of our time or current and new the space travel and the colonization of the moon, there were also a few projects which did not go down so well with the society. His search engine A9 should become a competitor model to Google. Market shares could not be gained and so the project was terminated at the end.

But he also wanted to create a competitive model for eBay. This means that not only professional traders can trade, but also private individuals. “Amazon Auctions was the name of this project. This was also discontinued without success after a short time. Here you can see how difficult it is to compete against good and established products and to dare something new and to establish it on the market. Google, but also eBay are already so well positioned and function almost independently that it is difficult to get people to move to new platforms and switch.

Search engine A9 – fail

Amazon Auctions – fail

Morten Lund (Founder: Skype)

Morten Lund, Skype founder, is an excellent example of the skipjack of today. He had his first insolvency at a young age. His first business model: to sell Abitur hats. In Denmark, Abitur hats are the absolute bestseller for school leavers. Unfortunately, he did not manage to sell his hut, as it is an extremely seasonal business, he had to declare bankruptcy in 1994, immediately after the graduation celebrations. It shouldn’t be that way! Fifteen years later, he went bankrupt for the second time, in 2009. In fact, he had managed to organise all the money earned by Skype, the investment in 2003 and the subsequent growth spurt, in such a way that he went bankrupt for the second time. Nevertheless, he has not given up and since 2016 he has actually been debt-free again. A great example of a role model for someone who also fails in higher spheres and not only with a single project, but also privately.

1994 Insolvency (sale of high school graduation hats in Denmark)

2003 Invest in Skype, made millions

2009 Insolvency #2

2016 Debt relief

You can learn from Morten Lund’s story as an entrepreneur. Give up? What’s the matter with you? Those who really believe in themselves should always go on and believe that they will make the breakthrough at some point. Others have finally made it!

Bill Gates (Founder: Mircosoft)

Bill Gates is one of the most fascinating companies in the world for me. Not only did he start his business out of a garage, he became the richest man in the world and gave up half. What Bill Gates also deserves credit for is that he managed to leave his own company at a very good time. Many remain in the company until they are old and then do not find the right successor. Bill Gates took early care of a structure that would replace him. Hats off, Mr Gates! From garage to richest man in the world and back to privateer. Everyone starts with their first business idea. Will it directly become a million or even billions of ideas?

His first business idea was born in the high school “Traf-O-Data”. The software made it possible at that time for the very first time to carry out automated traffic counting, no longer by people with pen and paper. During the first presentations, however, the demonstration did not work without errors. The interested parties were less enthusiastic and so in the end not a single authority was interested in the software solution. Bill Gates was so frustrated that he ended up offering his software completely free of charge. Still, she didn’t want an agency. A typical moment to say, “I can’t do it.”

But no! Short time later, he developed in collaboration with his high school friend Paul Allen “Microsoft”. Since the beginning of the computer era, the world’s most popular operating system for computers and notebooks.

High School: “Traf-O-Data”: Demo did not work (road traffic census), later free of charge, yet no authority wanted it

Learned intensive software writing

foundation “Microsoft”

Three icons whose products everyone knows. Amazon, Skype and Mircosoft. Three entrepreneurs who have experienced setbacks in their lives and yet remained steadfast. Believing in yourself moves mountains, as you can see from these examples, it is not a saying.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is currently even competing with other American greats such as Elon Musk or Virgin founder Sir Richard Branson. You and other multibillionaires are about to conquer nearby space. Elon Musk company SpaceX focuses mainly on logistics between earth and orbit. Jeff Bezos wants to be the first to colonize the moon permanently and thus provide a stopover for future Mars landings. Virgin goes mainly to space tourism and flights in nearby orbit…

Think big!

And already we are away from failure and from the big ideas that change the world! The perfect transition for you and your business idea.

What does an advertising agency do?

Advertising agencies in Germany from Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Düsseldorf to Cologne – Creativity is at home in Berlin. From the lively start-up culture to the large companies that are also represented internationally. Hamburg is the Mecca of online shops, Munich presents itself as an international city, and in Cologne Düsseldorf the media world poses around YouTuber, but there’s also a lot of fashion to admire, e.g. in Düsseldorf at every fashion show. In every big city there are start-ups and young company founders who are looking for an advertising agency. For the very first time! But especially for start-ups and small companies it is hard to find the right advertising agency at the beginning. Who still no experience with the topic organization, Website, on-line Shop and print media collected, that is naturally with the first search completely overtaxed! What should I pay attention to at the advertising agency search? What mistakes can I make with an advertising agency?

Hugo Boss is known for its purist, elegant fashion. The German fashion label was founded in 1924 by Hugo Ferdinand Boss with the original function of a tailor shop for workwear in Metzingen, Baden-Württemberg. During the period of World War II and National Socialism, 140 forced laborers were employed in the factory, as well as 40 prisoners of war from France. To compensate for this, the company paid into an international fund for the compensation of forced laborers. After the death of the company founder, his son-in-law and later his sons took over the management of the company. The first men’s suits were subsequently produced, and from 1960 the company began to expand internationally with mass-produced clothing. In 1970 the own brand BOSS was introduced, which still stands for luxurious men’s collections today. About 20 years later, this core brand is expanded by the two brands BALDESSARINI and HUGO.
