Alexandra’s role on AWZ

FIV: Hello Alexandra, how nice that it worked out with the interview today. You are successful as an actress and can be seen as Chiara in the daily soap “Alles was zählt” on RTL since 2019. What do you like best about your role and can you identify well with it?

Alexandra: Wow, soon it will be 3 years that I am allowed to embody the main role “Chiara Nadolny” on AWZ and what I like about the role is that it is very versatile. Whether totally in love, totally business-woman-straight, clumsy or sometimes a little too honest, it’s just fun! I often find myself in her, especially in her soft facets, in her discipline and self-confidence.

Passion and profession in one

FIV: Ice skating has been a great passion of yours since childhood, and through AWZ you can combine your passion with your profession. Has your role on AWZ been a dream come true for you?

Alexandra: It is definitely a happy coincidence that I am both an actress and an ex-professional figure skater and that I am allowed to combine this! I am glad that I did not have to hang up this special and graceful sport for good. That’s why I always say: nothing in life is for free, everything has its reason. Maybe you don’t see it today or tomorrow, but one day it will come full circle. I never thought that I could combine my 2 passions and make it my profession and I am extremely grateful about that!

She never wanted to be an actress!

FIV: Has acting always been your dream job and what inspired you to become an actress?

Alexandra: To be honest, I never wanted to be an actress. I didn’t even know what acting was until I was 19. I applied to an acting school for fun, went to auditions for fun and only there, during my studies, did I get to know and love this profession! And here I am now!

The next Wonderwoman, what’s next?

FIV: You have already had the opportunity to participate in some television productions, what would be a project in which you would like to participate, what kind of role would be particularly appealing to you?

Alexandra: I am an absolute fan of “Wonderwoman”. Just the fact that a woman is the superhero and has supernatural powers. I’m a very active guy and I imagine the shooting of such a movie to be especially action-packed, fun and special. I would definitely be very keen on that!

Your love for travel

FIV: Your job as an actress keeps you on the road a lot, but you also like to travel in your private life. You like to share insights from your travels, such as your trips to Rhodes and Barcelona, with your followers on Instagram. What has been your most beautiful trip so far and which experience do you still remember fondly?

Alexandra: Every trip is special for me. The main thing is to travel! Life is too short not to see the world. I can’t say which experience was the best for me, but I can say one thing with certainty: I come back after every trip with new energy, new inspiration and new perspectives. Therefore, all I can say is: Travel as much as you can!!! Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.

Plans for the future

FIV: Finally, a short look into the future, we are curious what you have planned in the near future: Do you have big plans like a move or something similar or is there something special coming up? Give us a little teaser of what your fans and followers can look forward to in the near future!

Alexandra: There are of course some things planned for the new year, but I may not yet spoil anything, otherwise it is no longer a surprise! Maybe you’ll see me here and there on TV?! Stay tuned!

I got to talk to Adelina, a model from Cologne at a shoot and ask her questions about her start in the fashion industry, her highlights of her current career and her plans for the future. She takes you on a journey from Asia to Europe and shares the most exciting and funniest stories with us!

She also gives us her ultimate tips for young models and important values for young girls and boys. It’s all about Self-Love & Self-Confidence!

Getting started in modeling – applications & castings

Many girls dream of becoming models, but not everyone knows how to get a foothold in the industry. Before you go on the road and run from casting to casting, you have to apply and hope that you find the right agency that sees in you the potential to train the young girls and then to market.

Adelina applied at the age of 17 to many agencies in Germany and sent her pictures online on the off chance. Of course, the requirements for being a model are more than just luck, in addition to the right height and appropriate dimensions, you must also have charisma or what most call that certain something.

She received her first acceptance from CM Models, who trained Adelina for over 2 years with shoots and assignments like at Fashion Week in Berlin.

Then she was ready to extend her jobs offers to across the wide ocean.

School and modelling – is that possible?

A question that interests not only the models, but especially concerned parents. A modelling career starts pretty young, so it clashes with your school career. I asked Adelina how it is possible to reconcile both, a good school education and modeling. The answer of the graduated high school student was quite clear: It is really doable! Of course, she had to take a leave of absence for some shoots, but still she didn’t neglect school. She graduated from high school and mainly had experiences within Germany during her school time.

After finishing school she started her stays abroad. Her first trip went straight to Asia, Shanghai, where she landed several shoots and jobs. The last trip was to the fashion capital Paris, where she even made it on the cover of a fashion magazine. More about that later!

My personal highlight – Shanghai, Paris & Berlin

Within 2 years, Adelina has not only been able to pick up a lot of modeling knowledge, but has also been able to see large parts of the world. Some of her coolest assignments include the Fashion Weeks in Shanghai and Berlin, as well as her current shoot for the cover of a French fashion magazine!

For herself it was a real culture shock at first, the first time in Asia and all alone! But the experience was indescribable and Adelina also did very well. In Asia the focus is very much on “diversity”, there the European standards like height and measurements are not the most important thing. They don’t ask for the typical beautiful. It’s much more about special characteristics. So it happened that 1.65 m models were with her at castings. Something that would be unimaginable in Europe.

Nevertheless, Paris was just as much a highlight for the young model. It is the dream of all models to shoot in the fashion capital, not to mention the cover of a Parisian fashion magazine. She still finds it hard to put all the experiences and emotions into words. Directly in the first week she got the job. An overwhelming and at the same time exciting feeling. A big difference to Shanghai, but also there she had the complete support from the agency. Many models are very scared at the beginning and worry that they will be alone or have to work under strict observation. The agency in Paris offered a bit of home with its relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Paris Cover – Emotions

“How does it feel to see yourself on the cover of a prestigious magazine?” was my personal highlight of the interview. Finding yourself in the corner newsstand at 19 is not only an accomplishment for your modeling career, but also a completely new feeling. Before, you walk in fashion shows and fashion weeks, but the audience is limited to fashionistas, designers and photographers. Now you’re on the shelves of dozens of newsstands and supermarkets, which means you’re seen everywhere. Whether it’s from teens interested in the week’s beauty tips or the businessman who wanted to give his car a quick fill-up. The reach is different.

When she found out her photos were used, she didn’t know she made the cover. With astonishment and a big grin she took 6-7 pieces for her family, friends and agencies. At first the kiosk woman was confused, but when she recognized Adelina she was happy and congratulated her.

Fashion Week – Berlin, Shanghai & Beijing

The first show was in cooperation with CM Models in Berlin. Others followed in Shanghai, Beijing, Peking. They were two completely different worlds in terms of fashion, feeling and styling. But in both neither excitement nor adrenaline was missing! It is an indescribable feeling to walk in front of the audience, the adrenaline rises, you have to be able to hide it well that now so many and especially so important people are watching you.

That’s also the reason why Adelina prefers catwalks for shoots. At the shoot it is of course always a new experience and exciting, but the atmosphere is more relaxed, mistakes are allowed and it’s not bad if the photographer gives tips for better poses. In the fashion shows on the catwalk, everything has to go perfectly and on the first try.

Plans for the future – modelling & studies

Adelina is still in her year of break, after graduating from high school the year was dedicated to modeling and traveling, yet she wants to enroll in college for the upcoming winter semester. Her plan is not directly related to modeling. She wants to study International Management, but doesn’t want to give up modeling. During the semester break, which is 1-2 months, she wants to model abroad. In the meantime, her assignments are limited to shoots and jobs in Germany. But she is sure that it is possible to combine both. Unlike in school, there is no compulsory attendance and at the time it also fit wonderfully.

She still has time until university starts and she uses it as much as possible for shoots and jobs.

3 tips for beginners

When you start so young, it’s hard to know everything right away. It’s normal that in hindsight you would do things differently. It was important for me to know from Adelina what she would recommend to her younger self with her current experience. She gave me three ultimate tips that would not only help her former self, but young girls and guys now who want to become models.

1. Work on self-confidence
2. Don’t put up with everything
3. Not pretending to please others

“I would tell myself that you have to have a lot of self-confidence from within yourself for the profession. No one should always conform to everything society tells you to do. It’s important to do your thing because only then do you feel more liberated and comfortable. If you try to please everyone else, you won’t be happy. I don’t fit into the typical mold of society either, but being true to myself fulfills me. I would give that to others along the way!”

The perfect look – Be yourself

Fittingly, I had to go into her particular look. Shaved hair on a woman is not only a brave and cool look, but it also attracts a lot of attention, right? I got a cool story directly from China. There, European looks are of course always a phenomenon and it is normal that bright blue-eyed people are always photographed, because this is very different from the norm and is a beauty ideal in the Asian region. Adding short hair was the ultimate trigger for a group of Asians to photograph Adelina on the street.

But even in Germany she gets a lot of looks with her smart look. At the beginning she noticed that very strongly, today she fades it out. For many people the look is hard to classify, that’s how she explains the stares. Nonetheless, she gets a lot of positive feedback, especially on online platforms like Instagram. She is often asked how it came to shaving off her hair and many want to follow her in this step, but have reservations or too little courage. Adelina not only serves as an inspiration, but encourages others to do what their feelings tell them to do.

Her decision to get her hair done also came from her heart and impatience to grow it out again!

Money and Beliefs – Podcast episode #21-24

People follow financial patterns. Influenced by the environment or determined by themselves. Financial patterns ensure that we do not exceed a certain level. Envy thoughts towards wealthy people or the own relation to money and proverbs like “money stinks”. Why is having money always so negative? How do you change this (and other) beliefs?

“Greed is good” – A mistake?

Gekko’s central sentence: “Greed is good” (from the film: The Wolf Of Wallstreet). This also changed the view of the people of a broad public to those who make money.

These are the learns from The Wolf Of Wallstreet, what do you think?

1. way from customer value (value for the customer)
2. Away from employee Value (value for employees)
3. to shareholder value (Only the value of the investors counts)

According to Alex Fischer, the reference to money was different before the 80s. The change in corporate culture, away from customer and employee value to shareholder value à la “greed is good” brought money into disrepute.
If you repeat something thousands of times, you develop a habit. If you suddenly decide against it and start a new concept 2 or 3 times, you will quickly realize that the habit usually prevails, according to Alex Fischer in episode 21: Analyze your beliefs.

As with smokers, a thousand times the cigarette was “relaxed”, “tasty”, etc. Suddenly you want to stop smoking. What happens? You decide against it 2, 3, 4 times and then you start smoking again. Simply because you said “I want to smoke” a thousand times.

A lot of people believe that money is bad. Not in that exact wording, but in this context.

It’s no use going one belief against another.

The solution is that “You dissolve old and outdated beliefs by means of awareness”. For this you must 1. recognize what the dogma is and 2. know when and why you did it. Through these two steps you will really become aware of your beliefs. So you understand why you think the way you think. You dissolve old beliefs and replace them with new ones. By becoming conscious, an old, outdated dogma can no longer be used against your new and current dogmas. Release your brakes!

Hidden connections and laws

He who believes in chance, has lost. Every action leads to a reaction. Everything has a cause and an effect. “If you have no money, there is a cause. “If you have no relationship, there is a cause. If you are unhappy, it has a cause”, says Alex Fischer.

Here, Alex Fischer learned from one of his mentors that people get angry too often about the symptoms instead of looking behind them to ask themselves the “really right question”. But what is the “right question”? The really right question is: What things do I cause without knowing it?

Just because I cannot recognize a supposed connection does not mean that it does not exist. Nothing is created by chance, why and how does Alex Fischer discuss in episode 22: Everything is cause-effect.

In this episode you learn to recognize and explore laws, even if you cannot see them.

But there are not only your inner factors, external factors also play a role in your success. Therefore a quick look at episode 24 of “Richer than the Geissens”.

Identify problems and forces

In Episode 24: When you swim upstream on the Rhine Alex Fischer once again goes deep into his own mindset. It is about identifying problems and efforts and counter-currents.

With your own mindset you often get in your own way. If everyone has a problem, then it is again quite “Nnormal”. Therefore it is not always so easy to recognize problems. If you as an entrepreneur spend a lot of time with other entrepreneurs and everyone has a problem, you think That’s just the way it is. Alex Fischer concludes two factors for you:

Alex Fischer began to analyze hundreds of companies and describes the general concept of effort through physics, more precisely “every force generates a counterforce”. This culminates in the fact that whenever you exert force, counterforces are present.

Late entry, training as photo designer & family cohesion

FIV: As a child, did you like to take pictures and what were your favorite motifs at the beginning?

Julia: I came relatively late to photography, around the age of 20…Before that I didn’t have a camera in my hand and wasn’t very interested in photography although my father worked for KODAK for years.

FIV: What was your career as a photographer like? Where did you get your photography skills from?

Julia: After the Abitur I didn’t know for a long time what I wanted to become. Then I had the possibility to do an internship with a fashion photographer and saw there for the first time a kind of career wish for me. I continued to assist, then did an apprenticeship as a state-approved photo designer, after that I assisted again freely and firmly and finally I became self-employed. My photography skills come from the classical education, I learned analog and then of course from my practical experience during my residency. And of course through many free works.

FIV: Were there people in your environment who were worried that you could not live from your work as a photographer?

Julia: No, fortunately not, or rather they didn’t say it because they saw how vehemently I pursued my career aspiration and that I had a fixed goal in mind. So I was rather encouraged and supported.

Julia about talent, teamwork on set & professionalism

FIV: Is there such a thing as talent in photography or is experience the most important thing?

Julia: Definitely, in my opinion talent is still the most important thing. But talent alone is not enough.
Experience can also be very helpful, but it takes time.

FIV: Nowadays you don’t photograph alone anymore, but with a big team of make-up artists, lighting and of course models. Who organizes the whole thing and how does a day with a shooting at your place work?

Julia: For most of my current jobs I am allowed to put together the team. Here I help myself from my pool of experienced and well-rehearsed people who fit perfectly to the respective shooting.

FIV: Amazon and Hugo Boss have already used your services. With such big clients there was certainly some action around the shootings. Which one do you like to remember best?

Julia: I remember big jobs and also smaller ones. All jobs, no matter how small or big, received the same attention, the same intensive preparation, the selection of the team etc. Not only the professionalism, the concentrated work on the set but also the humanity and the joy during the job play a big role for me.
And so every piece of the puzzle makes a big whole.

Beauty Portraits & Training as a photographer

FIV: You photograph for different industries and accordingly take different pictures with quite different objectives. What kind of pictures do you prefer to make in your private life?

Julia: I don’t really do much photography in private. My favourite works are usually the “beauty portraits”. A mixture of close-up and portrait.

FIV: What would you recommend to a young person whose dream is to become a photographer? Should one proceed differently today than in the past? What do you think are the biggest challenges as a photographer today?

Julia: For me personally it was still important to do the classical training. But that was 20 years ago. As a photographer, I was still allowed to grow up with analogue technology.
I think it’s nice to be able to look back.
It helped me a lot as a foundation and development to master the entrance into digital photography.

Today, the classic job description of the photographer no longer exists. Today the photographer is more of a “content creator”, everything has changed a lot compared to back then.
I don’t want to judge that at all. But the classic photographer from back then definitely has to reinvent himself today.
I think today it is easier for newcomers or autodidacts to enter the world of photography. There are numerous tools. In my opinion, the classical training is no longer necessary. Personality is important to show yourself and your skills.

Julia’s plans for the future: exhibition, book & gratitude

FIV: Finally, let’s talk about your future. What are the biggest goals you want to achieve as a photographer? What are your biggest goals that you still want to achieve in life? Is there anything new on the horizon?

Julia: Photography has always been a dream job for me, I am still very grateful to be able to work as a photographer.
An exhibition would be a great thing. A hardcover book with my best works so far would be great. Apart from that I am open and thankful for everything that will come.

Deniz Yilmaz: Laura’s husband – soccer player and dad

Laura’s husband is the German-Turkish football player Deniz Yilmaz. Currently, the 30-year-old is under contract with the club “Genclerbirligi Ankara”. Many think, with such a job, Laura surely leads a dream life at the expense of her husband. However, Laura emphasizes the opposite. In one of her videos she describes her school career. After leaving school with a very good secondary school leaving certificate, she did an apprenticeship as a personnel consultant, then she caught up on her secondary school leaving certificate and also did her business school leaving certificate. What does that tell us? Laura also stresses that it’s never too late to climb the career ladder. Even if you don’t make it straight away, there is always a second way to get to the top. Laura’s childhood and her family

Laura is originally from South Tyrol and later moved to Munich. She grew up there with her mother and her sisters. She says that she grew up in a rural area and therefore still feels very comfortable in the countryside. At the moment, Laura describes Munich as her home and posts a lot of pictures when she visits her family again. Laura has never mentioned her father on Instagram or Youtube. Her grandmother comes from Greece, which is why she also has some Greek roots. Is that where Laura’s love of other cultures comes from? The 27-year-old always stresses how much she loves Turkish food and how comfortable she feels in Turkey. Sure, it’s hard when you can’t get as much family support, since Laura and Deniz’s family lives in Germany. But judging by Laura’s videos, she seems to manage everything great and fulfills her tasks as a mom, wife and Youtuber very well.

Laura’s life in Turkey

Laura has been living in Turkey with her husband and son for three years now. They moved there because of her husband’s professional commitments as a footballer. The family has moved several times within Turkey, and they currently live in Ankara. Laura feels so comfortable in Turkey that she is already thinking of staying there forever. The only barrier they still have to overcome is to master the Turkish language perfectly. Laura’s husband is half-Turkish, which is why he already speaks fluent Turkish, and their son Noah has the good fortune to grow up bilingual, only Laura has to learn the Turkish language again in Turkey. Laura and her husband met in a shisha bar. Laura tells that her husband was a completely different person before their marriage . Back then he was more the player who dated many different women and she was more the shy romantic who would do anything for her great love. FIV: Chiara, you are slowly approaching 1 million subscribers on Instagram. You are very successful with your blog “culturewithcoco” where you regularly upload posts about fashion, lifestyle and travel. How do you handle the attention of your readers? Do you want to convey certain values to them?

Chiara: It’s an insane number and social media is something very special. It sounds very exciting to be able to say that my community will soon reach one million followers and I try to imagine as often as possible that so many people are interested in my life. The attention from readers and followers is just very flattering. I get so many messages every day about how much I inspire others and I try to answer all questions as often as possible and be as open as possible.

I really find the relationship with my followers almost like a good friend. I share fashion tips & tricks, show off new creams I’ve discovered and talk about my travels. But I’m also not perfect and love to hear feedback from my followers on what I can do better. This creates a good community that helps each other. What I have learned over the years is that many people appreciate how you are as a person behind the anonymous account. Being aloof is not the goal.

FIV: Your readers know your public side very well, but don’t know what you’re like in private. What kind of person are you behind all the hustle and bustle and the daily postings and how would your friends describe you?

Chiara: What few people know is that I’m more of a quiet, introverted observer type. I took pictures with the self-timer in my apartment at the time and I was on the internet a lot. Nowadays I go to a lot of events and meet new interesting people. My professional life has sort of forced me to become more social and I’m grateful for that. My friends would describe me as warm, down to earth and positive thinking.

Behind the perfect picture of a blogger is a lot of work

FIV: The life of a blogger always seems to be perfect on the outside. Pictures are perfectly positioned, you always wear the perfect clothes for every situation and travel to the coolest places all the time. Be honest, is all of that fulfilling for you or does being happy mean something else to you? A lot of young girls would like to have a life like yours. What advice would you give them to start their career as a blogger?

Chiara: Happiness is certainly not defined by the perfect picture (behind which there is always a lot of work). But surely there are more important things in life. To be healthy, to have friends and family – these are so driving forces that are very important. What’s important to know is that as a beginner you very rarely have chances to monetize your blog/reach right away. I built my blog over 2 to 3 years back then. I had to invest my first money in my own blog first to get something back years later. There are also boring topics like SEO, search engine optimization and hosting & domains. You have to deal with that too.

The job of a blogger/influencer is not known to everyone, even in 2017. Not everyone knows exactly how much work is behind this job and what exactly we do. It is a full time job. Our life is very much work oriented in terms of time. It is very difficult to find an on/off restriction because I really work until late in the evening. If you can find this professional work attitude in yourself, you have the best chance to become successful. Diligence, professional appearance and of course a bit of luck are the main factors.

FIV: On your blog there is the category “Fashion”. This is again divided into four wide: Spring, Summer, Fall Autumn and Winter. So you have the perfect outfit inspirations for your readers for every season and know exactly which trends are current and how they can be combined. Tell us, do you have your personal fashion favorites! Are there any pieces that should not be missing in your wardrobe, especially in winter? When you spontaneously think of a perfect winter outfit for you, what does it look like and what clothes does it consist of?

Chiara: Well, I really have to admit that fall & winter are my favorite seasons! In fall and winter I definitely have my it-pieces that I couldn’t survive without. One important point is that I try to avoid dark colors as often as possible. The weather is really dreary enough, so please wear something lighter!

The first it-piece everyone needs is a good wool coat. I found my perfect wool coat in a small boutique. It’s beige, fitted and goes down to the knees. Add some well-fitting over-knee boots and the look is perfect. Underneath you can either wear a sweater dress with tights or a sweater with jeans. Smart gloves are also a must-have for the cold season.

FIV: When it comes to beauty, you are certainly a pro. You certainly have a few insider tips for us in the area of beauty and care. Without which beauty essentials would you not survive the winter?

Chiara: In winter my skin is very dry. So I have to put cream on my skin at least twice a day. I use a lot of products from Asam Beauty or Kiehls. A good tip that I have learned over the years is to always mix the foundation with my favorite moisturizer. Since I also care a lot about my hair, I use Living Proof products. They help to keep hair looking beautiful even when it’s damp.

FIV: As a blogger you see different styles all the time and you don’t always like them. Do you think you can wear everything in 2017 and combine all styles / colors / patterns with each other or are there certain no-go’s for you?

Chiara: Trends are constantly repeating themselves, so I have to say that you can’t do much wrong these days. I think that not every trend is made for every person. At a certain age you know what suits you and what does not. So I would always go by that. I have to say for me one of the trends in 2017 that was an absolute no go is jeans with overly large holes. If your thigh and lower leg was clearly visible underneath, it looked strange.

FIV: With 820,000 subscribers, you are a very successful international blogger. Did your success come overnight or was it more of an ongoing process?

Chiara: What many people don’t know is that before Culture With Coco I had a fashion blog called fashionpaparazzis.com. I created it in 2010 when the topic of bloggers/influencers was not yet known. After that I started my project with culturewithcoco.com. The success was definitely not overnight, but it took over 4 years until it became what it is today.

FIV: On your blog you also record your travels for yourself and your readers. You have already travelled in Europe and Africa and you still want to go to Asia, Australia, America, the Caribbean and the Middle East. This has allowed you to meet people from all over the world and see the most extraordinary places. Which experiences from your travels have stayed in your memory and which people have inspired you on your travels?

Chiara: I really have to say that travel is a big topic for me. I have some great memories of Petra in Jordan, Cairo, Egypt and Dubai. The impressive buildings, the culture and the people – absolutely fascinating. America is a country I would love to travel to in the future. I’ve been to New York and Chicago as a teen and loved it then. I would also like to discover Hawaii and Cuba. That’s at the top of my travel list along with Asia. Seeing the Taj Mahal live or Bangkok and Singapore. So I have a lot of things planned. Visiting my home country too, of course: Africa. I lived in Zimbabwe for 12 years, in the south of Africa. From there, we were able to travel to South Africa, Mauritius and Mozambique in no time.

FIV: Blogging as a profession is becoming more and more popular and more and more people are using blogs to talk about their lives, inspire other people and share certain things with their readers. What makes your blog different from others and what is your recipe for success?

Chiara: I think it’s great how many people are now interested in it, because I founded my blog/Instagram/Youtube back then because I wanted to address people who look and think like me. At that time I was looking for a lot of things, but found very little that appealed to me and then I developed this small market niche with my way of seeing things. Now I realize that many of my followers come from different countries, have a completely different culture and we do not even communicate in the same language. They just love my way of performing and I think that’s really cool.

FIV: Working on your own person and especially on an online diary takes a lot of time and effort but is worth it in the end. Do you have specific goals you want to achieve and where do you see yourself in 5 years? And just between you and me, is there anything special planned in the near future?

Chiara: The profession of blogger/influencer has no guidelines. A five-year plan I have therefore not created because you have to live as it comes. Something besides “social media” is in the planning but not yet ready to speak. Otherwise I have the same goals as everyone else in life: to have a great job that is fun and to stay healthy.
