A lot has changed since GNTM

FIV: Hello Yasmin, how nice that it worked out with the interview today. You participated in season 16 of Germany’s Next Topmodel. Since then you are a successful model and active on social media. How has your life changed since you took part in GNTM?

Yasmin: My life has already changed a lot. I’m still doing the job I had before, because you always need a plan B. But it’s still very exciting and new that people recognize you on the street. However, it is still very exciting and new that people recognize you on the street.

Many new possibilities made possible

Yasmin: Not a day goes by without a little girl or grown man asking for a photo for himself or for the family. I am still very excited and happy at the same time. I often ask myself what I have done to deserve all this, since I am no different than anyone else. It’s just as incredible how many products I get sent home or invited to events of my favorite brands. I am a huge Harry Potter fan and to have had the opportunity to be invited to the premiere for the play of the new part and to be allowed on the red carpet was unthinkable for me. So I am all the more grateful for all these opportunities.

Yasmin misses the time at GNTM

FIV: Do you have fond memories of your time on GNTM and would you participate again?

Yasmin: I remember the GNTM time very fondly. Actually, every day. Most of all the moments with the girls, which I miss day after day. This time has shaped me very much and I would always participate again.

Tips for aspiring GNTM candidates and models

FIV: Soon the new season of GNTM will start, what tips do you have for the aspiring candidates?

Yasmin: I was always told how much I should enjoy my time there. Even though a lot of pressure and stamina were required, you should enjoy and make the most of every second. I wish I had understood that beforehand, but hindsight is always wiser. That’s exactly the tip I would give the girls. And that it is of course a competition, but you should still pay attention to the other girls and be happy for other people’s successes. You get what you give. That’s why I don’t regret at all that I’ve spent so much time with the other girls and have found friends for life like Elisa, Dasha and Luca.

All about Yasmin’s fashion style and fashion tips

FIV: On Instagram you inspire us and your followers with your cool style. What inspires your looks? Do you have a style role model from whom you draw inspiration?

Yasmin: It was very important to me from the beginning to be transparent and approachable. I show myself exactly as I am and I am inspired above all by my community. They write me so often on what I should pay attention or tips when I have questions about the content. My content itself is still very expandable and I hope that my community will grow with the experiences that I will still collect with Instagram.

FIV: Finally, a short look into the future, we are curious what you have planned in the near future: Do you have big plans like a move or something similar or is there something special coming up? Give us a little teaser of what your fans and followers can look forward to in the near future!

Yasmin: A big move is not yet imminent. Because I am newly single, I would like to think about the future before I take a big leap. I have applied to many model agencies, but would like to announce something only when the decision is finalized. But I want to gain a lot of experience in modeling to grow into a real model. Instagram technically I would also like to slide into the beauty and fashion track. I’ve noticed how much I love creating new looks and being an inspiration.

Daisy Paige is the latest up-and-coming digital supermodel from Los Angeles. She already has a modeling contract with Lipps LA – a well-known modeling agency from California. Daisy was designed by the start-up company Spark CGI. Lipps LA is known for working with famous faces like supermodel legend Helena Christensen, rapper Cardi B and rocker Courtney Love. Modeling in Los Angeles: what are you missing?

FIV: A few years ago you made a conscious decision to emigrate to the US. After that you started a career, which probably few expected at the time, and yet you have become a very successful, self-confident curvy model. What do you miss most about Germany?

Sarina: I miss my family and friends the most. I haven’t been to Germany for a while now and of course travelling is quite difficult at the moment. I also miss the German bread, haha. You just don’t find that here in the US!

Successful in America: Fashion Business in the USA

FIV: You’ve already had a few years of experience in the American fashion business. What is the biggest difference between Germany and the USA, i.e. Los Angeles, in terms of modeling?

Sarina: I have to say that the Curve Market has developed and established itself much faster in the US than in Germany. The people here are much more open and welcome you faster. I just wish that at some point it will be a matter of course that every brand also produces large sizes.

Size, Measurements & Model Type: The Differences

FIV: Surely there are differences in size, measurements & model type in the fashion cities in Europe and the US. Do you have the feeling that you are more successful as a curvy model in the US than in Germany?

Sarina: When I got my first bigger jobs for Sports Illustrated or Good American with Khloe Kardashian in the US, the interest of German brands, as well as TV shows, increased enormously. In addition, the curve market was only just beginning in Germany at that time. For that reason, it’s hard for me to assess. BUT there are definitely more opportunities in the US than Curvy Model, that’s for sure.

Return to Germany?

FIV: Have you ever thought about returning to Germany?

Sarina: Yes, I have often thought about that… But to be honest, at the moment I don’t know where I want to live someday. What I do know, though, is that I won’t live in Los Angeles forever. We’ll see what the future brings.

Body Positivity! Self-confidence and courage

FIV: Body positivity is a big topic on social media. You also convey self-confidence and courage on Instagram and in your book. Through this you have become a role model for many women and young girls. But again and again you read that especially the fashion industry has difficulties with change. In your opinion, has the fashion industry changed in recent years? If yes, do you find this change positive/negative?

Sarina: The fashion industry has changed enormously in recent years and for the better! Of course, even today there are still some who have not understood it and probably never will. However, there is clearly a positive trend. With my followers it is very similar… There are always some who have something to complain about.

Crass. This is how people react on Instagram

An example: I recently posted a photo in a figure-hugging dress that showed off my curves well. Almost half of the comments were from people (mostly German!) who were negative about my body. I don’t get involved in that, of course, but I was still a little shocked. What are these people thinking, judging another person like this? Why? I’ll never understand. If you don’t have anything nice to say, you should just shut up. We should respect, encourage and love each other.

FIV: A lot has changed since your slim beginnings as a model on TV. What was your best experience as a model so far, or what was the most interesting job for you?

Dancing on Ice, Sports Illustrated, Good America…

Sarina: My participation in Dancing on Ice at the beginning of 2019 is definitely one of my most beautiful experiences as a model and was also my biggest challenge. I am very grateful for this time, because I learned a lot, especially about myself. Meanwhile, I pushed my limits and I think it’s admirable how much you can achieve in a short time if you really want it and work hard for it. And to mention some other great jobs – Sports Illustrated, Good American or Forever21 in Time Square were also very cool experiences.

“My grandma is my role model”

FIV: Which person you have met so far have you been particularly impressed with and why?

Sarina: My biggest role model will always be my beautiful grandma. She made me the person I am today. My grandma had the sweetest heart and the purest soul. She was an incredibly positive person. Even when she wasn’t feeling well, she always had a smile on her face.

Next: Actress in Hollywood? Coming up!

FIV: You live in Hollywood, the perfect place to start an acting career. Will we soon see you on screen as well as magazine covers?

Sarina: Since August 2019 I have been attending an acting school in New York. There, very intensive training awaited me every day, which is why I decided to move to NY. In the beginning, I was still commuting to LA every 2 weeks for work. However, all the traveling took so much out of me that I decided to move back to LA, not least because of the Covid19 crisis. My studies are all digital at the moment. But to answer your question, YES, that would be my dream and it is one of my goals!

FIV: Finally, I would be interested in one more thing: If you could change one thing in the world in one second, what would it be?

Sarina: I’ll answer that question with my favorite saying:

If humans had hearts as big as dogs, the world would be a better place!

“I’m very persistent” – Fatas success at GNTM

FIV: In 2016 you took part in the TV show Germany’s Next Topmodel. You even made it to the top 3! And would be interested in when your interest in modeling has developed and what finally moved you to participate in the show?

Fata: That was quite a long time ago when I knew: I want to model. When I look at photos from the past, you could already tell by the poses that I wanted to be in the media industry – I wanted to be in front of the camera, and preferably in front of a huge audience. Maybe it was also because I was bullied for years at school and didn’t want to be the fragile little grey mouse anymore.

FIV: Two years ago you already tried your luck on the show. But there you only made it to the top 20. The fact that you wanted to try your luck again underlines your joy in modeling very much! How did it come about that you applied for the show again 2 years later?

Fata: I unfortunately didn’t get a visa for the US the first time I attended, as I only had my Bosnian passport at the time. Then I applied for my German passport and it finally arrived 1.5 years later! So I immediately went to the casting again and was rejected for the first time. However, Heidi personally came to Berlin again to cast more girls and so I went again. I was very persistent! Since the first season I wanted to take part in this whole experience, so I stayed on.

FIV: Many young girls and boys also want to realize their dream as a model. Also, every year many new young people want to apply to the show. Looking back, what are your best tips that you can give to all model enthusiasts regarding the application for GNTM?

Fata: Make an effort! Practice, practice, practice! Keep pushing – you only have this one chance! That’s my advice! So many girls want to get on the show and when you do, you have to work your ass off. It’s a great stepping stone.

Social media, sports & travel: This is Fata’s everyday life as an influencer

FIV: Well, four years after your success on GNTM, you’ve achieved a lot! You have your own Youtube channel where you upload weekly videos, your own podcast Fataland and you live in Dubai. Your followers like you especially for your humorous and open nature, which you bring out on your social media channels and in the podcast! What do you like most about being a public figure and what are you most proud of?

Fata: I’m proud that I get messages every day about how happy people are and that I can put a smile on their faces through my videos. I think anyone can be beautiful on social media, but to be able to carry people along and be honest, open and down to earth is something I pride myself on. I’ve been the same since day 1 and thankfully never had a high.

FIV: Social media can take a lot of time! Managing an Instagram and YouTube account, as well as your own podcast is not as easy as it seems. Do you have any other pursuits besides your job as a blogger? How do you like to spend your free time?

Fata: I try to balance my free time and my job. That means I film my very normal life. So the work never stops – I really film from morning to night – like a reality TV show. An absolutely private insight into my life. In my free time I like to go to the beach, play volleyball, go camping and try to be outside a lot.

Moving to Dubai & travel tips for unforgettable trips

FIV: Together with your boyfriend you moved to Dubai a few months ago. What was the reason for your move there and what do you like most about the city? What is it like to live in such a big modern metropolis and what do you think are the biggest differences compared to Germany?

Fata: I was born and raised in Berlin, which is also a big metropolis for me. Therefore, big city life was not a problem for us. However, I needed good weather and distance from Berlin. Dubai is incredible! Incredibly nice people, permanent sun, good service, beach, sea and freedom. I am very happy here and needed the distance from Berlin.

FIV: Travel, Beauty and Fashion: These are your topics! You love to travel around the world and discover new places. What has been your favorite travel destination so far and do you have some travel tips for our readers? We would also like to know who you prefer to travel with, alone or in company?

Fata: I love travelling with Izi – he is my partner and best friend. He is uncomplicated and open to everything. We can also enjoy the peace and quiet together. Sometimes it doesn’t take many words to be happy. You have to go to Playa del Carmen and Tulum. The most beautiful trips I’ve ever had so far.

FIV: Finally, we would like to hear from you what your absolute career highlight has been over the last few years?

Fata: My absolute highlight was my emigration – I’m so happy to be able to work from anywhere and take my community with me. I am so grateful to be so free.

Louisa Mazzurana: GNTM, Fashion & Tips for Modeling

Louisa told us that Cassie is a great dog and is already 14 years old. She still likes to keep various memories from her GNTM time. These include meeting Cindy Crawford or moments on the catwalk in Los Angeles. Louisa also has some tips for future GNTM contestants. In the development of the modeling industry, she has particularly noticed that there is no longer just one specific ideal of beauty.

FIV: Louisa, many know you from television as a model. On Instagram you like to take your followers with you. There you regularly prove in your stories or in your photos: fashion is your thing. Because as a model you know how to create a beautiful outfit. You’ve already been allowed to do one or the other cooperation. But who shouldn’t be missing from your pictures: your little dog. She looks really cute in your photos. Has she been able to pick up some modeling tips from you? How old is she?

Louisa: Thank you for the kind words, Cassie really is an angel and so easy going. In fact, I’ve often been asked if I could bring her to the set for a few shoots. However, since she is an old lady at 14 years old, I always make sure that it doesn’t get too stressful for her. She’s a bit too old for the big modeling career, so to speak, even if she still looks like a baby.

GNTM & Tips for your GNTM application

FIV: You took part in Germany’s Next Topmodel a few years ago and made it very far – into the Top 5. What moment in the show do you always remember fondly?

Louisa: I have countless moments in my head that I will never forget. The time was an incredibly exciting journey, I would not want to miss a single moment. Every place, every encounter, every shoot and make-up was special. Not to mention the time spent with the amazing girls that I have forever taken to my heart. Of course there are a few events that were especially nice like the circus shooting of Kristian Schuller with the elephants, a dinner together with Eva Longoria and Heidi Klum, my runway job in Los Angeles or the meeting with fashion icon Cindy Crawford.

FIV: It’s not too long until the next season. And surely this time a lot of girls have the dream of modeling again. What are your top 3 tips for future GNTM applicants? And what tips can you give to those who are maybe a bit too small according to some guidelines?

Louisa: Tip 1: Be yourself! Ultimately, you convince through something unique, visually as well as character-wise. You will never be remembered if you try to be like someone else. On my hand I have the word “muse” tattooed. To me, everyone is a muse in some way and inspires others. Find out what special muse is in you and show it to the world!

Tip two: Have fun! Whether as a background dancer, model or make-up artist, for me fun was always the first priority besides professionalism. I was passionate about every job, I felt and enjoyed the moment. For me, GNTM was a journey that I inhaled without thinking. If you love something, you’re good at it, I firmly believe that!

Tip three: Don’t give up! No matter how hard it is sometimes, if you really want something, keep going. Then, if it didn’t work out, reorient yourself without completely giving up on your dream. A healthy mix of ambition, dreaming and realism has always been important to me. Especially if you are not “perfect”, you always have to fight a little bit more than others. That might be harder, but it also makes you more mature and stronger.

My tip for those who want to live their dream but don’t have the “ultimate” measurements: Just try and be confident! What do you have to lose? Of course you can fail…but even then you will take a lot of experience and knowledge with you for the future. You can only win!

Louisa about the transformation of the model business

FIV: You started modeling about ten years ago. Has the modeling business changed over time from your point of view? If yes, how do you find this change?

Louisa: Definitely! Today, individuality and character count much more than in the past. Of course, back then you could score points with special features, but there was always this certain image of beauty. Today you can have rough edges and be appreciated for it, it makes you interesting and approachable. I think this development is great, beauty has so many facets after all! If the industry had been like it is today, my size probably wouldn’t have been such a big problem and I could have achieved a lot more.

FIV: Over the years you must have gained a lot of experience in the industry and met some interesting people. Who is your current role model in the fashion business and why?

Louisa: There are so many women who inspire me. Starting with icons like Marilyn Monroe, Brigitte Bardot and Edie Sedgwick. My favorite model in this day and age is definitely Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. She is beautiful, classic, has style and that certain something. I love her work as a model and also her brand Rose Inc – Rosie is a real power woman. I’m a sucker for power women! In general, I love women who do their thing and are different, so have something special.

Louisa’s Style & Jewellery with Meaning

FIV: Social media gives models a lot of different opportunities. There are some former GNTM contestants who like to keep their fans up to date on Instagram after the season. In the process, there are often collaborations that come about. Earrings, watches & Co.: Whoever follows you on Instagram sees that you wear jewelry from time to time or even have a cooperation in this area. What are your favorite jewelry pieces and why?

Louisa: My main areas on Instagram are beauty and fashion and of course jewelry is one of them. I love delicate jewelry, most often I wear earrings and you almost never see me leave the house without several rings. I do have a few statement pieces though, like a wide gold ring from my mom. When pieces of jewelry tell a story, I think it’s especially beautiful. For example, I always buy a delicate ring at markets in other countries, they remind me of the beautiful moments there. Every time I’ve been to another country, I’ve had a certain feeling there that made me happy in a special way. I bring this feeling home so that I never forget it and can escape from everyday life for a few moments whenever I want.

FIV: On your posts on Instagram you are often seen in beautiful outfits. How would you describe your style? Do you have any styling tips? What do you think everyone should have in their wardrobe at home?

Louisa: When people ask me about my style, I always say: Jumpy. I love trying new things, I get bored quickly. Fashion should first and foremost be fun and please you, not other people. Our clothes reflect our character. I feel like I’m constantly changing and you can see that in my clothes. Nevertheless, I hold on to values and love the simple and small things in life. So although my style is erratic, it is always a bit classic and simple. A few good basics should not be missing in any wardrobe, everything else is a question of type. My current favourite piece are olive coloured rubber boots. I like to wear them with a dress, an oversize sweater, a trench or a thick winter coat.

FIV: When you gain so many experiences and can try out new things, time certainly often flies by. Where do you see yourself in five years?

Louisa: I have no idea. I always live in the here and now and try to enjoy every day. With me, everything always comes differently than I thought it would. The unexpected moments are the ones that make us really happy and that we will never forget. Planning is nice, letting go is nicer! But I firmly believe that many more exciting moments await me in my life and hope that I can continue to live my dream.

5 tips for models – Perfect look for a photo shoot

• The skin

One of the most labor-intensive processes is to create an even and pure skin image using Photoshop. Few people want to look like a porcelain doll afterwards, but authentic. There are some things the model can do in advance for a better skin appearance. For one thing, there would be enough sleep. The model should have slept at least eight hours before the portrait shoot.

Too little sleep often means dark circles, small wrinkles and a dull complexion. Furthermore, the model should not smoke or drink alcohol before the portrait shoots. Both usually lead to red spots on the face on the next day, which come to the fore when the photo is taken with a flash. But also acne and impurities are a bigger problem. The best way to prepare the skin is with make-up. Before applying the make-up, a moisturizing cream should be applied, so the make-up lasts longer and, above all, does not flake off.

• The lips

If the lips are too dry, Photoshop often can’t save much. If the model works or lives mainly in a colder area, dry lips are almost inevitable. Accordingly, the lips should be treated with lip balm for a longer time before the portrait shoot. By the way, this is not only an advantage when photographing.

• The body hair

Even if the body hair seems to come back into fashion, you still won’t see models with hair in the “wrong” places on any cover. Surely Photoshop can help here, too, but it is advisable to come directly to the portrait shoot without a lady’s beard. However, the model should not remove the eyebrows and upper lip hairs immediately one day before the photographs, as the skin reacts with skin irritations after epilation or plucking, i.e. the skin reddens. It is better to remove the small hairs about 2 days before the shooting and to get the eyebrows into shape.

• Relaxed eyes

The eyes are an important eye-catcher on a portrait, all the worse when they are tired, restless and swollen. Before the portrait shooting it is therefore absolutely necessary to abstain from alcohol, nicotine and little sleep. The shooting will be exhausting for the model as well as for the photographer. The recordings can look like forced afterwards. A good night’s sleep not only helps to achieve an even skin appearance, but also tear sacs have no chance.

• Espect the right clothes as well

Especially when it comes to beautiful nude photography, it is not advantageous if the model has squeezed herself into tight clothing beforehand. It is well known that the cuffs of socks, seams, etc. can leave unsightly marks on the skin after only a short period of wearing. It is therefore better if the model has wrapped herself in loose clothing so that no unsightly incisions or pressure points are visible in the skin.
