Fashion Week in Berlin: The Shows & Runway Highlights! Twice a year the German capital invites an international audience to see the latest trends of famous German designers at Germany’s biggest fashion event. I’m on the road at Berlin Fashion Week with shows by Marcel Ostertag, Namilia, Killian Kerner, Anja Gockel and many more. Here are the highlights from my 3 days for you in Berlin!

Tuesday: W.E4.Fashion Day with Rebekka Ruétz, Marcel Ostertag & more

For the first time in the history of Berlin Fashion Week the four designers Rebekka Ruétz, Marcel Ostertag, Kilian Kerner and Danny Reinke present together a new concept for Fashion Week 2023. Under the motto “Hand in Hand, together for Berlin” the four designers show their new collection in the Bolle Festsäle. The goal: to stick together and work together! The W.E4. Fashion Day is to enrich Berlin in the coming years and strengthen its image as a fashion metropolis.

Wednesday: Damur, Namilia and Marc Cain

At the Berlin Fashion Week shows by Anja Gockel or Marc Cain can not be missing, of course, for many years they are regularly represented at the Fashion Week. But also Ukrainian designers present their collections. A highlight is the comeback of Namilia, after three years off the catwalk.

Thursday: Haderlump and Jean Gritsfeldt

On Thursday there will be shows from Berlin-born label Haderlump and Ukrainian fashion brand Jean Gritsfeldt. Both collections feature experimental and innovative designs that make you think.

Conclusion

Three days Berlin and finally again Fashion Week with shows, side events and of course the many fairs. Also this year the Berlin Fashion Week has shown how diverse and beautiful Berlin Fashion can be. My highlights are definitely the W.E4. Fashion Day, with designs by four designers who have been closely associated with Berlin Fashion Week for years, the long-awaited comeback of Namilia and the touching fashion of Ukrainian designers, who have been more than welcome at Berlin Fashion Week for a year now.

Berlin Fashion Week: Story

Berlin Fashion Week is an annual event dedicated to the presentation of new fashion collections for the upcoming season. It was created in 2003 by the Berlin fashion fair Premium Exhibitions and since then it is held twice a year, usually in January and July.

The event serves as a platform for German and international designers to present their latest collections. Over the years, Berlin Fashion Week has become an important event in the international fashion industry and attracts numerous visitors and media representatives from all over the world every year.

During Fashion Week, numerous fashion shows, exhibitions, parties and other events take place. Berlin Fashion Week is also known for its support of up-and-coming talent and its focus on sustainability and innovation in the fashion industry.

Damur / Berlin Fashion Week – Damur presented the AW23 collection “Reviver” at the Berlin Fashion Week in St. Elisabeth Church. What the choice of models, the location and the collection have in common, you can find out here.

Damur: Autumn Winter Looks 23/34

The “Reviver” collection is dedicated to the idea of a second chance in life. Starting from models in need who found their way to a second chance in life in fashion, to the use of flowers that would have been disposed of if they were not in the show. Damur’s collection features unsystematic cuts, a rich mix of soft and hard ruffles, and large and small, delicate but fun cutout details.

Kilian Kerner: Sequins and colorful suits – Berlin Fashion Week AW23/24

Kilian Kerner / Berlin Fashion Week – In a progressive mix of evening wear and street style, Kilian Kerner presented its fall winter collection 23/24 under the motto “Symphony”. The 52 looks, which the guests were able to marvel at in the Bolle Festsäle in Berlin, were supported by the brilliant live performance of the Berlin band Fuffifufzich.

This season stand out high-quality sequins in wet look and on denim, tulle with rhinestones, pants and shirts with glitter cords, as well as closed fabric slits and looks with glass plates. The dominant colors are pink, lemon, orange, gold, blue and black. Sheer fabrics, open backs and low-rise pants make Kilian Kerner’s collection sexier than ever, transforming the designs into sophisticated day and night looks!

Marcel Ostertag: Skins and Latex – Berlin Fashion Week AW23/24

Marcel Ostertag / Berlin Fashion Week – Discoteca is this year’s motto of the fall and winter collection 23/24 by Marcel Ostertag. After times of restrictions on public life, Ostertag shows his collection completely according to the motto “We celebrate life”! To the surprise of all guests, he also presented a second, fully executed collection, which he designed for Peter Hahn.

The looks of the show were characterized by black latex and imposing fake fur coats. Here, the colors red, black, mint, blue, off-white and cream enter into a liaison with the exclusive prints. For Peter Hahn, the designs are convincing with classic, elegant cut patterns in chic coats and blazers.

Litkovska: fringed dresses and masculine suits – Berlin Fashion Week AW23/24

Litkovska / Berlin Fashion Week – The latest collection of LITKOVSKA titled “Vesnianka” is a tribute to traditional Ukrainian spring songs. For this collection, the designer also wanted to combine couture with a bold statement. Several pieces are embellished with an embroidery of a heartbreaking poem called “Prayer of a Ukrainian Patriot”.

In terms of visual aesthetics , Litkovska remains true to his raffined,art-inspired chic. Weightless fringe dresses and crocheted accessories sit alongside tailored, masculine suits and elaborate gowns. Litkovska ‘s styles areunited in their diversity: solemn and down-to-earth, androgynous and feminine, with perfect lines and charmingly chaotic silhouettes, they embody youthful energy in a modest, intimate way.

Haderlump: Denim, Leather Jackets & Military Uniforms – Berlin Fashion Week AW23/24

Haderlump / Berlin Fashion Week – Berlin-based fashion brand Haderlump presents its sustainable collection titled “Dystopia”. At the same time it is also the label’s first collection ever presented.

Haderlump radically opposes fast fashion and for this reason has exclusively reused and deconstructed old materials. All fabrics are either deadstock fabrics or reused from used clothing. Used denim pants, leather jackets, military uniforms and parachutes, among others, have been incorporated into the collection.

Bobkova: Upcycling with mini dresses – Berlin Fashion Week AW23/24

Bobkova / Berlin Fashion Week – Ukrainian designer Bobkova’s new collection is titled “Mriya”, which means “dream” in Ukrainian. It is a grounded and refined collection that combines a whole spectrum of emotions.

From low-cut, lace-trimmed ’90s maxi briefs and bras to upcycled patchwork A-line mini dresses and skirts styled with leather boots à la Françoise Hardy in the ’60s, Bobkova is known for the signature austere and minimalist cuts that are also evident in this collection.

Dzhus: Change clothes in front of the audience – Berlin Fashion Week AW23/24

Dzhus / Berlin Fashion Week – At the launch of her fall/winter collection, Ukrainian designer Irina Dzhus showed ten innovative pieces that she radically redesigned in front of the audience, turning one look into two.

The transformation of the fall/winter looks is a tribute to the drastic changes of Dzhus’ home. The line consists mainly of architectural silhouettes: statement puffer coats, jackets with a boxy fit, maxi dresses and oversized pants that are at the same time incredibly flexible when it comes to wearability. This includes the transformation of pants into dresses and jackets, coats into jumpsuits, sleeves into hoods and vests.

Namilia: Sexy Bikerlooks & Clubwear – Berlin Fashion Week AW23/24

Namilia / Berlin Fashion Week – After three years of absence from the catwalk, Namilia is back at Fashion Week! The comeback was a complete success with the fashion show “Cruising Utopia” in collaboration with Need for Speed. From transgender and curvy models to drag queens, a diversity of models presented Namilia’s highly anticipated collection. A show that does not lack representation!

Namilia: Autumn Winter Looks 23/34

Cruising Utopia collection is inspired by the world of car racing and motorcycles. Biker jackets in green, blue and orange can be seen on the catwalk. In addition, there are revealing dresses, bodysuits and corsets that play with the body and hardly lack sexiness. Lace and high shoulders round out the designs of Namilia.

Marc Cain: coats, elegance & neon colors – Berlin Fashion Week AW23/24

Marc Cain / Berlin Fashion Week – Under the collection motto “A new Journey” Marc Cain presented their fall winter 23/24 collection in the old building of Tempelhof Airport. Otherwise Marc Cain could not have started the 50th anniversary year. 52 models and 65 outfits, the show impressed all present!

The collection ranged from ultra-short skirts and jackets to long oversized coats. Materials like brocade, velvet, silk, sequins and intricate knits gave the designs a look of opulent elegance with futuristic styling. Bright and flashy colors were of course not missing in the collection.
