There are many different possibilities and <hiddenlink href="https://fivmagazine.de/einrichtungsstile-xxl-landhausstil-industrial-look-skandi-stil-feng-shui-vorgestellt-erklaert/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-type="post" data-origin="de" data-origin-url="/?p=108342">furnishing styles</hiddenlink>. Here we would like to introduce you to the Feng Shui style. Feng Shui is the design of your home according to the ideas of Chinese harmony, based on the energy flow of the so-called “Chi”. How you can bring your Chi to flow and your home harmoniously furnish you learn here with us.

Elements of Feng Shui: Materials & Furniture in Harmony

Feng Shui is mainly about designing your living space in harmony to maintain your life energy and let it flow. The Chi – also written “Qi” – plays a central role. According to the ancient Chinese teaching of Feng Shui, which literally means “wind” and “water”, these two elements form the basis of the life energy that flows through everything: Chi.

In terms of your interior design, you can think of chi as a current, it can flow quickly or slowly depending on the furniture and shape. Ideally, the Chi flows in pleasant, moderately fast paths around your living areas. The five elements of Feng Shui are particularly important: wood, fire, earth, metal, water. Matching your furniture and accessories to these will have a positive effect on your chi.

Tip! Whether bedroom, living room or terrace: Guide – Furnishing rooms.

Wood: cork, bamboo, rattan and wicker furniture

The element wood is the symbol for life and growth. It stands for the colors green and light blue and can be implemented with wooden, cork, rattan, bamboo or wicker furniture. High and slender forms also stand for the element wood in Feng Shui.

Fire: candles & lamps in pointed shapes

In Feng Shui, fire stands for the shades red and orange and can be supported with candles, lamps or a fireplace. In addition, furniture and accessories made of leather or wool set the element beautifuly in scene. The element is found in pointed and angular shapes in furnishings.

Earth: ceramic, clay & stone elements

The earth embodies the center in Feng Shui. It is stable and protective and stands for groundedness, durability and reliability. This element can be implemented with yellow and brown tones, as well as flat shapes such as stone, ceramics and clay.

Metal: Deco in white, silver & gold

Metal represents prosperity and success and is associated with white, silver and gold tones. Furniture and accessories can have round and domed shapes, be shiny or matte. Objects such as crystals or glass allow the chi to flow well.

Water: Pictures & Accent Wall

The last element symbolizes luck and success in private as well as business life. Flowing, soft fabrics such as silk or even glass can be used here. Also, pictures with rivers or wetland plants can be brought in, as well as the colors black, purple or blue, for example, with a dark blue accent wall.

Feng Shui Colors of Harmony – White, Pastel & Co.

With the use of wall color, rooms can be divided and structured, but above all it strengthens the flow of energy and weakens negative vibrations at the same time. The colour in which a room must be designed depends on which of the five elements underlies the room in order to create a positive effect.

Living room: earthy tones & friendly colours

For the living room are most ideal white, pastel and earthy tones. These radiate cosiness. Highlights can be set off with green or lilac decorative objects. Seasons also play an important role: in winter, replace the spring colours with red or purple tones.

Lamps, windows & light: light sources for a harmonious soul

Sufficient light and brightness are an extremely important aspect of Feng Shui. Different sources of light are crucial in this respect. Of course, the most important is sufficient daylight, which comes through the windows into the apartment. Curtains and blinds should be as translucent as possible, where not enough light arrives, the Chi flow can wither. Therefore, illuminate dark, inanimate corners with different light sources, even in windowless rooms such as the hallway, a single ceiling lamp should not be the only source of light.

The type of light should also be taken into account: in the kitchen and study, somewhat brighter light is suitable, in the living room and bedroom rather a softer glow.

Living room to relax in: Sofa, coffee table & co.

Your living room is the centre of communal life. This is where family, friends and acquaintances come together, a meeting place, the most public room in the house. But also to relax, watch TV or read, you sit down in the “good room”. Accordingly, the Chi should flow well and harmoniously in this very room. We tell you how to do that.

Arrangement of the living room according to Feng Shui

To ensure that the chi is retained and does not escape again immediately, the living room door should not be directly opposite a window. If this is the case, plants on the window front protect against negative influences from the outside and from the chi escaping too quickly. If possible, place seating against the wall and avoid the line between the door and the window. The middle of the living room ideally remains free – so the Chi can spread undisturbed and strengthen the inhabitants.

Furniture in curved lines – how the chi flows: arrangement & tips

Avoid clean lines or sharp-edged furniture: harmony is created with a U-shaped sofa. This triggers a sense of well-being in your guests, as everyone can sit opposite each other. Organic, curved shapes create the perfect flow of chi. Instead of a rectangular coffee table, an oval or one in a kidney shape is better. The floor should be left wide open, yet a cute round rug may be placed under the sofa or coffee table – as long as the center of the room remains clear. High, massive cupboards are a no-go: they look heavy and destroy harmony.

Bedroom: ideas and selection according to Feng Shui

The bedroom is undoubtedly the most important room in the whole house. It is the ultimate retreat, where relaxation and recreation should meet a well-cared-for sleep. Create your own oasis so that the right energies flow in your bedroom. Love happiness can also be greatly influenced by the chi in the bedroom. A couple is more likely to find mutual support and success in their relationship when the chi flows harmoniously.

Location of the bedroom: view into the garden

In Feng Shui, the location of the rooms is also assigned a special meaning. The bedroom is best located in the back of the house. Facing the garden, away from negative energy currents such as roads, noisy cars, dirt and noise. Attention should also be paid to the location of the bedroom within the house. It should never be above a garage or storage room and should not be in close proximity (i.e. next to, above, opposite or below) the kitchen or toilet.

Bed: alignment and the best place for restful sleep

The bed is the central element of your bedroom. Place it against a stable wall, preferably without windows or doors. You should be able to see doors and windows from your bed, but be careful not to lie in a direct line to the bedroom door – otherwise the chi will flow towards you unchecked. Also, do not sleep directly between the window and the door, as this will have the same effect: you will be in the chi flow.

Bedroom furnishings: Bed, wardrobes & mirror in Feng Shui

The best option is a bed with a large headboard, the bed itself should not have a metal frame and should be made mostly of natural wood. Likewise, cabinets and chests of drawers should be made of natural materials in round shapes. These should be closed as much as possible to create a more uncluttered atmosphere. Large, heavy shelves, pictures or lamps are a no-go, they create too much restlessness and distraction during sleep. If there is the possibility of a dressing room, move the wardrobes completely out of the bedroom.

Mirrors in the bedroom should be avoided – the reflection generates strong activity and disturbs sleep. If the mirror is indispensable, it should in no case be in the line of sight of the bed, otherwise the consumed energy will be returned directly to you.

Decoration according to Feng Shui – tips like cushions, lamps & Co.

Similar to minimalism, Feng Shui is based on a clear, orderly and tidy living area. Less is more here, because superfluous clutter and unnecessary accessories restrict the flow of chi considerably – in the worst case they can even block it. However, this does not mean that decorations of any kind are forbidden. Carefully selected, they even have a positive influence on the Chi and give you positive energy.

Decorative articles made of wood, metal & porcelain

Small decorative items are the perfect tools to keep your chi flowing optimally and maximize your sense of well-being. Accessories made of wood, metal or porcelain are very suitable for the living room. In general, natural-looking materials and light, soft colours help. Here are the top tips with which decorative items you can increase your Chi:

Natural materials such as fresh flowers, leaves or stones

A pretty decorative bowl with fresh water and flowers

A wind chime made of shells, driftwood or glass

Cosy textiles like cushions, plaids or carpets

Mirrors: welcome in the living room, unlike in the bedroom – they add dimension to the room.

In the bathroom help the flow of energy:

Scented candles and tea lights

Sweet room fresheners

Fluffy bath mats or towels

Lamps & lights: small islands of light with table lamps & candles

Rooms that are equipped with different light sources appear more harmonious. Lamps and smaller luminaires give dark and inanimate corners an extra dose of chi. Create a homely atmosphere with individual islands of light. These distribute the chi throughout the room and allow it to flow better. With chic floor lamps and table lamps, as well as candles, you can create a pleasant atmosphere in the living room and bring it to life. Again, look for round and wavy shapes of the lamps and don’t try anything too angular or bulky.

Garden: flowers, plants & vegetation for positive chi

Feng Shui is mainly about harmonization and the optimal flow of positive energy. Various plants and especially the garden play an important role. Living in harmony with nature is the motto. House and garden are harmoniously integrated into the environment.

Houseplants: Upgrading with bamboo plants and crystal vases

Inside the house, houseplants and fresh flowers are indispensable for effective Feng Shui decoration. With them, dead corners or bare corners can be revived and refreshed, so that the life energy also finds a place here. Bamboo plants or cut flowers can be very well integrated into the Feng Shui decoration. Modern crystal vases or beautiful vases made of porcelain are suitable here.

Our top 3 houseplants:

Bamboo palm – for a tropical atmosphere

Rubber tree – survives with little light in darker corners

Dragon tree – easy to care for and visually appealing

Feng Shui garden: design & arrangement – fountain or sculpture

Create an inviting atmosphere in your garden, for example with flowering perennials or a jasmine plant. Curved paths and a pond or fountain are a must-have in your Feng Shui garden. Water represents the flow of life and is one of the strongest energies. The heart point, i.e. the centre of the garden, can be deliberately emphasised, for example with a fireplace or a sculpture. For further planting, chrysanthemums or hydrangeas, for example, are welcome, otherwise evergreen plants provide year-round color even in cold seasons.

Oriental furnishings: Furniture, decoration and lamps á la Bollywood?

Bollywood movies have cult factor, so why not the oriental interior? In oriental countries, the hospitality and the family is in the foreground and exactly that is also reflected in the interior design. The friendly and bright colors make every room look inviting. The oriental interior design stands out from other interior styles because of its extravagance. A room in oriental style seems almost overloaded, but that is exactly what makes the style. In the following, I’ll show you how you can interpret the oriental flair in a modern way, so that your room doesn’t look too cluttered. But first, here is a little video to get a feel for what is important in the oriental style.

Typically oriental: bright colours, special fabrics & mix of patterns

The Paisley pattern is one of the most common oriental patterns. The pattern can be found on decorative items, furniture and clothing. In addition to the Paisley pattern, there is also a range of other oriental patterns that appear in the interior design. Many patterns are mixed with each other, so an exciting and diverse interior is created.

Are you also interested in fashion? Then let yourself be inspired by the Oriental Fashion Show Haute Couture.

The patterns are accompanied by bright and vivid colors. So if you want to decorate your living room oriental use mainly intense colors, such as: Pink, red, orange, brown, blue or purple. These colors look especially good when decorating the interior. Cushions, curtains, carpets or blankets are best suited for the implementation of colour in the room. But also a single armchair or oriental stools, so-called poufs, are suitable to bring the color and the pattern in oriental style in the apartment.

Oriental materials: Persian carpets, woven fabrics & silk

There are many materials that are typical for an oriental interior. Especially easy to realize the oriental style by using textiles. Here are mainly used: cotton, silk, organza or brocade as textiles. Another must when talking about oriental materials that should be brought in an interior design is fragrant wood, which is used in furniture. This scented wood is cedar wood which brings a pleasant oriental fragrance to one’s home. Other popular materials are: Leather, glass or mosaic tiles. To give a room the shine and splendor one uses gold and silver, which provide for refinement of individual furniture or decoration.

Woven fabrics

Leather

Glass

Tiles / Mosaic

Unmachined metal / sheet metal & copper

Oriental architecture: arches, columns & ornaments – oriental flair

Oriental architecture has a long tradition. When one thinks of oriental, one first thinks of magnificent mosques, which stand out from the dull European architecture due to their squiggles and colors. Typical of oriental houses are the curved arches and columns, reminiscent of the pomp of Arab palaces. High ceilings, usually complemented by a vault, make the house seem particularly spiritual and imposing. Another stylistic element of the architecture is the use of certain decorative forms, such as geometric ornaments, floral motifs and caligraphic inscriptions. Among the most popular oriental buildings are:

Sheikh Zayid Mosque – historical monument of the Arab world

Sultan Ahmed Mosque in Istanbul – a must-see of Arab culture

Alhambra – an Arab monument in the middle of Europe

Distribution of the interior style – Europe, Asia and Co.

The Orient comprises the Middle East, i.e. Arab countries and part of North Africa. With the Orient, one associates the tale of 1001 Nights and the Orient. If you travel to Arab countries, you will mainly encounter the Oriental style of furnishing. The style is very special and therefore probably not as widespread as, for example, the simple Scandinavian style. It takes courage but also skill to implement the ethno chic in your own home.

Mostly you can find the style also with Arab families who have emigrated and remain true to your traditional furnishings here. In addition to the Arab culture, amusement parks or hotels are often inspired by the furnishing style. The Orient is known for its numerous hours of sunshine and it is exactly this flair of sun, but also culture and tradition that the amusement parks or hotels want to implement in the interior design of the rooms or theme worlds. Here, one usually experiences how it must feel to reside in Arabian palaces or Moroccan riads.

Interior design Orient: Living room, bedroom & Co.

Oriental interior design can be both classic and modern. The most important rooms in the house are those that are used by the whole family. For this reason, in the common rooms you can find a lot of traditional patterns and materials that reflect the culture and also religious details, because religion has a very high value in oriental countries and shapes the life of each individual.

Living room: seat cushions, poufs and sofa offer space for guests & family

The living room is the place where family life takes place, parties are held and guests are received. That is exactly why the living room must bring the qualities: a lot of space and a vivid, traditional interior. Especially the seating is in the foreground. So you need a large couch, with enough seating space, matching armchairs and the traditional poufs, which do not take up much space and guarantee seating for everyone. However, in Arab countries it is also common to sit on cushions, so you are very close to the floor. To match the low seating, you also need to buy a table that has a lot of surface area and is close to the floor, so that the people sitting on the cushions or on the poufs can also use the table.

Besides the furniture, the accessories are also important in an oriental living room. Persian carpets, known from Aladdin with the flying carpet, decorate the floor so that the family and guests do not get cold feet. Carpets radiate cosiness and warmth, with Persian carpets traditional patterns are additionally added to the interior design. For this reason, one often finds tapestries in oriental living rooms. Besides the carpets, the spiritual atmosphere is essential. This is achieved by using colorful cushions with oriental patterns and colorful curtains. Also important are lamps in oriental style, which give the whole room warmth and make the living room more homely. If you now add plants, the living room reminds of an oasis in the desert.

Bedroom: tapestries, oriental patterns & ornate wooden furniture

Oriental furnishings can also be combined in a modern way. If you want to adapt the colourful oriental style to your home, the ornate wooden furniture is in the foreground and the colours in the background. So special attention is paid to the shapes and materials of the furniture. If, for example, you have furnished the rest of the house in classic Scandinavian style or country house style, but want to be bold in the bedroom design and have an eye-catcher in the house, you can easily merge the styles. So you take shapes and materials reminiscent of the Orient and combine them with simple colors that match the rest of the interior, such as: Nude tones, so a beige, or a light grey and pastel shades.

Do you already know the oriental <hiddenlink href="https://fivmagazine.de/yves-saint-laurent-parfum-lippenstift/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-type="post" data-origin="de" data-origin-url="/?p=102295">fragrances of Yves Saint Laurent</hiddenlink>? Let the fragrance take you to the Orient

Besides the right materials, shapes and colors, the decoration in a bedroom with oriental flair is also important. For this, choose oriental hanging lamps made of glass or metal in different shapes and colors that create a cozy atmosphere. Decorative cushions with oriental patterns are also a must, as well as light curtains or drapes, heavy rugs, mirrors, lanterns and tapestries.

Kitchen from the Orient: porcelain, colorful tiles, tableware and more

You can easily decorate your existing kitchen in oriental style. The main ingredients here are: matching accessories, matching spices and patterns. Since the typical, oriental patterns are particularly in demand, you can also bring them into your kitchen. How about cool tiles in paisley pattern, or a nice carpet, which beautifies the boring kitchen front? That’s exactly what you need to create the first basic building blocks for furnishing the kitchen in oriental style.

Besides matching patterns, the decoration of the kitchen is especially important. Who can’t imagine the scent of a Moroccan market? It smells of very different aromatic and oriental spices and exactly these, you should also present in your kitchen. Besides the spices, silverware and trays are essential, accompanied by ornate glass jars, pitchers and mugs. To give it all that certain something, add a lamp in oriental design to the kitchen, which embodies the flair perfectly and brings it into your now oriental kitchen.

Oriental style bathroom: beauty tradition, hamam & mosaic

Besides the main rooms of a house, there is also the possibility of decorating the bathroom in an oriental style. What many people do not know is that beauty care in the Orient already brings a long tradition, which is why the appropriate design of the bathroom is all the more important. This tradition is still celebrated today through the classic hamam, where a special bathing ceremony is performed in the form of a steam bath and massage with soap lather.

By using towels and bath mats in bold colors, you can feel the oriental flair. Use oriental patterns to decorate the walls: Mosaic tiles, mirrors with ornate oriental wooden frames and lamps in classic oriental style, which will instantly transport you to the world of 1001 nights. To complete the interior design, create onion-shaped protrusions in the walls where you can place decorative items that will complete the design of the room.

Chairs: seating comfort, aesthetic factor and material combined for every room

To help you find the perfect chair set for your home, we have summarized the most important aspects you need to consider. First of all, you need to be aware that nowadays a chair is already much more than just a functional object. Besides the comfort factor, the aesthetic factor is gaining popularity. In the first step, you should know which interior style you prefer – you can build on that. Which design do you like best? Should your chairs be ergonomic? Which material has the most advantages? In the following paragraphs you will find answers to all these questions. Nothing stands in the way of your perfect chair set!

Tip. Are you interested in interior design? Find an overview of the trendiest and most stylish interior styles here!

THE chair: more than just a seating option – criteria & features for selection

In this age of abstract design, creative freedom and upcycling, chairs often deviate from the classic definition of a seating option. Nowadays, chairs can have three legs, a deliberately placed hole in the seat and wild applications. So nothing stands in the way of your creativity and aesthetic desires when it comes to chair selection. Whether you choose a modern design with three legs, a rustic model made of wood or a transparent chair, you should know how a classic chair is defined. Basically, it usually has the following characteristics:

One backrest

One seat

Four chair legs

Optional armrests

Optional upholstery

Where do you need chairs: kitchen, dining room, office and more

Are you currently fulfilling your dream of owning your own four walls? Whether you’re building your <hiddenlink href="https://fivmagazine.de/einfamilienhaus-bauen-kaufen-mieten-ideen-eigenheim/" data-type="post" data-origin="de" data-origin-url="/?p=106467">family home</hiddenlink> in the country, looking for an old apartment to rent in the big city or want to invest in a <hiddenlink href="https://fivmagazine.de/loft-wohnung-kaufen-mieten-wohnen-fabriken-luxurioese-wohnungen/" data-type="post" data-origin="de" data-origin-url="/?p=106173">loft apartment</hiddenlink> – you won’t be able to avoid buying chairs. Often, in the hustle and bustle of the design process, people forget the importance of chairs. Cosy dinner evenings with family and friends will last longer the more comfortable the seating. When it comes to chairs, however, you can’t just think about your dining room. Your office, your kitchen, and perhaps your bedroom will be just as happy with a thoughtful purchase of chairs. In the following, you will discover the different types of chairs including advantages and disadvantages.

Origin of the chair: from luxury article to everyday object

The chair has established itself as a fixed component of every household. Whether it’s a wooden chair in the dining room, a modern chair in the office or a stylish upholstered chair in the kitchen – chairs are everyday objects in today’s generation. This was not always the case. It all started in Egypt. Only pharaohs were allowed to sit on chairs. The chair – a symbol of power in those days. The choice of materials – ebony, ivory and gold leaf – underlined the luxurious status of this piece of furniture. Arrived in the 21st century, the former luxury item has developed into an essential everyday object.

Material: wood, metal, plastic and co. for optimum seating comfort

Finding the perfect chair for you can be harder than you think. Are you looking for a functional office chair or a stylish rocking chair? Do you prefer a classic wooden model or a comfortable upholstered chair? The material can play a decisive role – both in terms of functionality and appearance. The most common materials for chairs are wood, metal, plastic, fabric or a mix of materials. In the following, we present you the advantages and disadvantages of the respective materials:

Wood: rustic ambience in chair form in kitchen and dining room

A chair in wood is probably the most common and most sold type of chair in the world – next to the cheaper plastic chair. Wooden chairs come with some advantages and disadvantages, which we have listed for you below:

Pros:

Natural, timeless look

Country style (radiates warmth)

Adaptable to interior style

Rich in variants (oak, beech, walnut, etc.)

Robust

Disadvantages:

Signs of wear

Maintenance (painting)

A Matter of Taste

Care Intensive

Plastic: Chairs inspire with flexibility, creativity and extravagance

Chairs made of plastic do not always have to be the cliché plastic chair. Meanwhile, many furniture manufacturers, such as <hiddenlink href="https://fivmagazine.de/kartell-minimalistische-lampen-moebel-stuehle/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-type="post" data-origin="de" data-origin-url="/?p=105801">Kartell Interior</hiddenlink>, produce chairs made of plastic, which are much more stylish and also more robust. Partially, the seating is even produced from recycled raw materials.

Pros:

Flexible production

Elaborate shapes and design details possible

Wide range of colors

Fabric & leather: comfort and well-being with the right fabric upholstered chairs

Chairs that are covered with fabric are usually upholstered chairs. They often offer a higher seating comfort and can be covered with artificial leather or similar in addition to common fabrics such as cotton or linen. Upholstered chairs in particular can always be covered with new covers, either by yourself or by an upholsterer, and are thus very changeable. You can find out more about the advantages and disadvantages of this type of chair here:

Pros:

High comfort

Various fabric variations (large selection of materials & patterns)

Upholstered chairs can be covered with new fabrics again and again

Disadvantages:

Signs of wear easily visible

Harder to clean

Material mix: wood, metal, plastic and more combined

Chairs don’t have to follow an explicit style any more than the furnishings do. Sometimes the style is simply to combine many different materials in one product. Chairs can also be designed with a mix of materials, for example with a plastic seat shell and chair legs made of wood or metal. There are basically no limits to combinations. Here are some of the advantages and disadvantages of chairs in material mix:

Pros:

Combination of all advantages

Optimal functionality

Aesthetic factor

Scandinavian: minimalism and elegant aesthetics as a chair in the dining room

This chair model inspires with its aesthetic appearance. The interlocking chair legs are the highlight of any dining room. Wooden legs are particularly popular, while the seat cushion and the backrest shine in different fabric or leather variations. The only downside to this <hiddenlink href="https://fivmagazine.de/skandi-stil-einrichten-im-angesagten-skandinavischen-look-oder-auch-scandi-style-tipps-ideen/" data-type="post" data-origin="de" data-origin-url="/?p=107766">Scandinavian</hiddenlink>style chair model is that it takes up quite a bit of space.
Three-legged chair: extraordinary chair in Skandi look

Space-saving, unique and stylish – the three-legged chair fulfils all the classic requirements of a chair with one exception: you sit on only three chair legs. This chair is especially popular for long dining room tables. The slim design offers space for large family celebrations and cozy dinner evenings with friends.

Modern classic: plastic and metal as a modern chair

Stacking chair in the kitchen: comfortable, stable and stylish

The stacking chair is often chosen for its functionality. The stacking function saves space and room, which is often very desirable, especially in apartments. But also in large houses, this function should not be underestimated. After all, no one likes to have 15 pieces of chairs standing around freely in the dining room or kitchen. But when family and friends do come to visit, seating options must of course be provided. This is where the stacking chair makes its grand entrance. As much as this type of chair inspires in its functionality, it can also do so in its appearance. <hiddenlink href="https://fivmagazine.de/interior-brand-guide-designer-marken-einrichtung-fendi-casa-versace-home/" data-type="post" data-origin="de" data-origin-url="/?p=105615">Luxury interior brands</hiddenlink> have recognized the popularity and practicality of this chair option.
Boho Chic: Lots of wood, cream tones, lace & crochet

The Boho style is an imperfect and romantic look. Despite the imperfection, the interior looks coherent and natural and invites you to linger. By choosing materials that are reminiscent of craftsmanship, your interior is given a special charm. Hippies were or are known for breaking norms, which is exactly what the furnishings in Boho Chic should embody.

Origin of the Boho style: bohemian, creativity and the pursuit of freedom

The name Boho comes from the French Bohemian and refers to a fringe group of the 19th century, which strived for freedom and protested against the norms of society. This fringe group consisted of creative people, such as poets, painters, writers, sculptors and musicians. Bohemia is an unconventional way of life that differs from the social ideal and longs for freedom.

Since the 1960s, the bohemian lifestyle has flourished again and the people of this fringe group now call themselves hippies. Love, Peace and Freedom is now in the foreground. Flower power became more and more hip and this was also transferred to clothing and furnishings. Floral patterns and wide, loose clothing became more and more hip and the emblem of hippie culture. It was precisely this looseness and spirit of life that people then wanted to incorporate into their furnishings. In the 1990s, the step was then dared to take the hippie style into the home. Some artists interpreted the hippie style of the 6o’s and 70’s and so the Boho Style was created. If you now combine the Boho Style with modern colors, patterns and shapes, you speak of the trendy Boho Chic, which embodies ease, comfort and style.

Do you like to live in a home that looks unconventional, casual and different from other interiors, then Boho Chic is for you!

Carpets & materials: mix of textile and natural materials

Who wants to have cold feet when getting up? To prevent this, a carpet is ideal. It’s best to choose a Persian rug, as it perfectly reflects the boho style. A carpet is not only an eye-catcher in the bedroom or living room, but also radiates warmth and cosiness. Not only a Persian-look rug is a chic accessory, but also braided rugs with fringes. Other materials that embody boho chic are the following: Wood, leather, rattan, cotton and linen. Natural materials with cute details, such as fringe, or lace are welcome in a Boho Chic interior. It is important that many materials are reminiscent of craftsmanship and nature, as boho style originally stems from a movement of creative people who are freedom lovers. In addition, soft and homely materials are essential.

Want to know which vintage furniture will look great in your home? Check out our article on <hiddenlink href="https://fivmagazine.de/retro-vintage-einrichtung-50er-60er-70er-jahre-stil-einrichten-moebel-lampen-teppichen/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-type="post" data-origin="de" data-origin-url="/?p=107935">vintage</hiddenlink> furniture!

Colours and patterns: bright colours, pastel shades & classic patterns

The Boho style stands for unconventional living, as well as the message should also be considered in the choice of colors. The mixture of soft cream tones with flashy colors makes the Boho Style. Especially the style mix in the Bohostyle is the special and what you should pay attention to. Here are a few tips for the right color choice:

There should be single spots of color in the boho style. Just make sure that it is not too colorful and restless

Use light colors so that the room looks friendly and not oppressive

It is best to stay in one colour family. Combine only occasionally contrasting colors with each other

Choose bright colors as the focal point of your decor, not the base. So keep wall colours and large pieces of furniture simple and unobtrusive.

The typical patterns in bohemian style are gaudy and eye-catching patterns, but also patterns inspired by other cultures. Patterns include: Macramee (Arabic knotting technique in which threads and strings are braided), Batik (also trendy in fashion) and Patchwork (interplay of multiple patterns). Have you brought these patterns into your interior design? Then nothing stands in the way of your Boho style interior.

Design walls & floor: Bohemian Style Furnishings

If you want to decorate your home in boho style, you can get a lot of inspiration on social media or Pinterest. The interior design style has never been so hot. The boho style is one of the most popular interior design styles of this decade and that is exactly why there is enough inspiration on the net. Here are a few tips and inspirations on what to look for when decorating and how to do it right.

Natural style flooring: wooden floor, stone floor or concrete floor

When it comes to the floor, you have many options in Boho Style. It depends with the Boho Chic rather on the furniture and the decoration. A simple floor is therefore best, which does not steal the show of the decoration. A floor made of natural material is particularly suitable for this. Suitable floors would be the following:

Wooden floor: matt or glazed, light or dark

Stone floor (maybe add some highlights, e.g. tile with a cool pattern)

Concrete floor

Walls: patterned wallpaper, cream tones, delicate pastel shades & Co.

The walls, like the flooring, should not steal the show. Nevertheless, you can be a little bolder here than with the floor. As with the interior design, you can also install individual eye-catchers on the walls in the form of bright colours or patterns. However, you should make sure that only isolated walls with gaudy patterns or colors are used. The rest of the room should be kept in plain colours: Cream tones, soft pastels, white or warm greys are particularly suitable.

Bedroom: Relax with decoration & furniture

To implement the Boho style in your bedroom you need many natural materials and soft, cozy textiles. If you mix these two materials together, nothing will stand in the way of your bedroom in the trendy Boho Chic living style.

Colours in the bedroom: homely colours with bold accents

For the bedroom, you should go for earthy colors and not gaudy ones. Earthy colors like brown, beige or olive radiate warmth and coziness, so exactly what you are looking for in a bedroom. By the way, black is also suitable in small quantities, which reflects the modern and clean colour scheme. Once you have used these basic shades, you can be brave and add a few colour accents. Metallic colours, red (Bordeaux red), mustard yellow, royal blue, turquoise or a warm blue are particularly suitable for this. You just have to be careful not to choose too many colours, so that you end up with an unstable picture. So decide on two or three colours that you want to use as colour accents.

Natural materials: wood, velvet, linen, rattan & co.

As materials should be used in the bedroom mainly homely-looking materials that radiate a lot of warmth. Wood, velvet, linen, rattan and leather are particularly suitable for this. However, wood should be chosen as the basis, because wood radiates a lot of warmth. The remaining materials can be incorporated into the bedroom with the help of cool DIY ideas or as accessories. Especially cushions, curtains or blankets in linen fabric or linen look are trendy and embody the Boho Chic perfectly.

Decorations for your bedroom: linen pillows, cotton blankets, copper bowls…

Speaking of pillows, we can also go directly to the decoration. The decoration is super important in Boho Chic and should therefore be well chosen and discreet, but still present in the room to be seen. On the one hand, linen pillows or curtains are a great way to properly use textile and bring in the decoration with. Since linen is not really one of the softest materials, you should definitely still use some homely and warm fabrics. So go for cotton, rugs with fringes and cozy bedding. Now complement these materials with a few accessories, such as copper bowls, table lamps with gold-plated bases, pictures with floral or oriental motifs, simple shelves, candles and ceiling lamps made of natural materials.

Need some inspiration for decorating your bedroom? Then read our article including tips and tricks: <hiddenlink href="https://fivmagazine.de/schlafzimmer-einrichten-einrichtungsideen-gestaltungsmoeglchkeiten-tipps-moebel-deko-artikel/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-type="post" data-origin="de" data-origin-url="/?p=107788"> Bedroom decorating</hiddenlink>

Living room: Sofa in warm colours, cushions with pattern & Co.

With the accessories and the colors, you can turn completely after the colors and materials in the bedroom. In Boho Chic, instead of “less is more”, it’s more “more is more”. So don’t be squeamish with the decoration and the color choice. It is only important that in the end no restless confusion arises.

So choose warm colors as a basis, so beige, brown or cream tones. The highlights you then implement in the decoration. Oriental patterns and the use of wood, cotton, linen and co. make the style perfect and your living room shines in the trendy Boho Chic living style.

Boho Chic Furniture: A Mix of Vintage & Modern Furniture

A mix of furniture and styles is just the thing in boho chic. Combine new and modern furniture with vintage furniture, or cool flea market finds. The most important thing is that it should still be a coherent picture in the end. Choose delicate furniture and no bulky wooden furniture that looks too present in the room. There should be a harmony between the furniture and this only happens if you match the furniture from the colors and style to each other. So again, settle on one to three basic colours as a basis. Furniture with beautiful and individual squiggles, reminiscent of the oriental style, is also very welcome.

Maritime interior style – a desire for the sea? Who doesn’t have that right now. To bring the holiday feeling a little bit home and avoid wanderlust, furnish your <hiddenlink href="https://fivmagazine.de/haustypen-einfamilienhaus-fertighaus-ferienhaus-villa-haeuser/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-type="post" data-origin="de" data-origin-url="/?p=105538">house</hiddenlink> or your apartment in maritime style. With just a few simple steps you can bring that Mediterranean flair into your home, which spreads summer vibes in the dreary winter. You will quickly notice that the most important thing in maritime style is the use of matching symbols and colours. Decoration, pictures or even the matching furniture, as well as the right wall colors can be decisive. How you can design your apartment or just single rooms in a maritime look, you can find out here! Back to the overview here: <hiddenlink href="https://fivmagazine.de/einrichtungsstile-xxl-landhausstil-industrial-look-skandi-stil-feng-shui-vorgestellt-erklaert/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-type="post" data-origin="de" data-origin-url="/?p=108342">Furnishing styles</hiddenlink>.

Maritime furnishings: Colours, furniture, tips and ideas

The maritime style of furnishing is all about bringing what you experience or have experienced into your home. The flair of the sea should carry over into the furnishings, making you feel like you’re on vacation even when the weather is bad – You don’t have to live by the sea to feel the vacation spirit. You can choose whether you want to incorporate the flair and splendour of a yacht into the interior design, or whether your interior should be reminiscent of a Nordic, Atlantic or Mediterranean coast.

Tip: The article on <hiddenlink href="https://fivmagazine.de/ferienhaus-traumhaus-am-meer-see-kaufen-bauen-vorteile-nachteile-tipps/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-type="post" data-origin="de" data-origin-url="/?p=107203">holiday homes by the sea or lake</hiddenlink> will inspire you in advance about what it is like to own a domicile by the sea.

Colour choice & style elements: From traditional navy blue, to white & red.

When you think of the sea, you think of azure turquoise water, beige sand and lifeguard red. The best known is the navy blue, which refers to seafaring tradition, as the British Royal Navy wore their seafaring gear in a navy blue as early as the 18th century. In addition, there is the driftwood or rattan, which is known from the jetty of ships. There are many combinations that can be implemented in the interior design:

Santorini / Mykonos Inspired: The white houses on Santorini or Mykonos as a contrast to the azure sea

East Coast – Beach House Vibes: The turquoise water of the Pacific Ocean and the light beige, almost white sand of Florida

Nordic: dark blue and turbulent sea, beige sand or white sand in the dunes, red and white lighthouses

Materials & Flooring: Wood – & stone floor for the maritime flair

When it comes to the floor, you have many options in the maritime interior style. Ideally, you choose a wooden floor, because it gives a room warmth and coziness and reminds you of the floor on a yacht. A dark glazed wooden floor or a particularly light wooden floor would be particularly suitable. However, you can also choose a stone floor, this can also be in terracotta, as terracotta colors remind you of the Mediterranean. The most important thing is to choose a floor that is made of natural materials, because you want to embody nature.

Signature Products & Deco: Maritime Symbols for Maritime Style

There are a variety of nautical symbols that are reminiscent of a seaside vacation or a typical seaside cottage. For one, you can incorporate what you would find on a beach walk into your decor, such as: Shells, dried starfish, stones, driftwood, or even sand – all these things automatically remind you of a day at the beach.

But the most famous symbol is probably the anchor. The anchor stands next to the shipping also for hope or love (arrived in the port of love), which brings a beautiful message in the interior. Ships or sailing boats also decorate the living room of any house by the sea. Furthermore, there is the life ring, which is used when a man has gone overboard or for a person who is in danger of drowning. The life ring is traditionally red, white or red and white striped. A lighthouse is another typical symbol.

The lighthouse gives orientation to the sailors. By the light of a lighthouse you can see the land in sight and it shows the way during a storm. Lighthouses come in many colours, but the traditional colours are red or blue and white stripes. Nets are also a traditional symbol. Nets symbolize fishing and therefore a long tradition. All these things can also be passively incorporated into the interior design and appear, for example, on an embroidered cushion with a lighthouse motif or in the form of pictures.

Decoration & tips: Beach house feeling with materials like wood, net, ropes & co.

All materials that have a connection to the sea are part of the maritime style. Classic for a furniture design in a maritime interior are glazed wooden furniture or stained woods, which refer to a long seafaring tradition and the interior of a ship. Besides nautical furniture, decoration is super important. You should include a lot of the symbols listed above in your interior design to incorporate the maritime spirit into your home. In addition to the symbols, you also take classic materials that are used on a sailing ship and point to the shipping tradition. That means: nets, ropes but also cotton or linen, which give warmth on cold days. But metals and stainless steel are also part of the furnishings. These are supposed to reflect the craftsmanship and the hard work of the sailors.

Maritime interior design: living room, bathroom & Co.

As already mentioned, it is important to incorporate maritime symbols and materials into the interior design. To implement the maritime interior style, the combination of motifs, materials and the right colors is exactly what you need to exude the flair of a holiday home.

Living room: navy blue cushions, cotton blankets & Co. – Video

A bright and light-flooded living room is already a basic requirement for the maritime interior style. If you then add the right furniture and motifs, you do everything just right to achieve the maritime look. A combination of matching furniture, colours and materials is the most important thing. Everything of your interior should remind you of a day at the sea, it should not look sterile, but invite you to relax and unwind. Here is a little video on how to do it right. Let yourself be inspired by the American beach house.

Bedroom: bed with comfortable duvet, many pillows and maritime colors

The style is also continued in the bedroom. The bedroom was used by seafarers to rest from the stressful workday, which is exactly what the bedroom furnishings should embody. The color of the bed should be a nautical color and the upholstery should either be comfortable and inviting or reminiscent of the beds in the cabins by using metal. When it comes to the bed linen, there are many options: either opt for white bed linen and eye-catching decorative pillows + bedspread or for eye-catching bed linen and plain decorative pillows. Gladly, the bed linen may also have a print that reminds of the sea.

In addition to a large bed with many pillows and a warm blanket, the rest of the room should also tie in with the maritime style. As already in the living room, you also work in the bedroom with many small decorative elements that should reflect the tradition of seafaring. The decoration can be made of wood / driftwood, plants or similar and again include the typical, maritime symbols. The decoration should fit perfectly with the rest of the room and may gladly come to the fore.

Children’s room: fish, colours and decoration create a fresh breeze

When it comes to the children’s bedroom, you can dig even deeper into the paint pot and play even more with motifs and decoration. Especially cool is a loft bed made of wood or steel, reminiscent of the cabins of sailors. You can also buy a single bed with the motif of a ship or even build it yourself, which then serves as an eye-catcher of the room and makes the children dream. Next to the bed, especially cool, eye-catching colors are a must. Here you can play with blue tones as much as you like. Through navy blue, to a cool dark blue or turquoise. The mix makes the room all the more exciting.

As with the colors, you should also let off steam with the decoration. You can playfully bring in nets (but be careful) or driftwood. A ship or a lighthouse serves both as an accessory but also as a toy. Fish on the walls make the underwater world in the bedroom look more present. To stimulate the imagination of children, you can also go back to the old times of pirates or Vikings by incorporating a treasure chest or a telescope into the interior design.

If you want a special eye-catcher in your child’s room, why not include an aquarium? It doesn’t have to be an aquarium wall, but to see the wooden fish on the wall in action, an aquarium is perfect to make the underwater world even more present in the children’s room.

Bathroom: round mirrors, ropes, knots & lots of wood

The bathroom should be a place to feel good and that’s exactly what the interior design of a bathroom should convey. From fresh flowers to driftwood from the beach, shells and sand, you need all this in your bathroom. A real eye-catcher is a round mirror, which is super trendy at the moment and reminds you of a ship’s porthole. With a few simple touches you can make the round mirror look even more maritime. For example, you could tie a rope around the mirror and fix it with a nautical knot (see picture) – super easy and a real eye-catcher. Again, feel free to play with maritime stripe patterns and colours to match the bathroom to the rest of the house. Maritime motifs that are reminiscent of seafaring and the sea, such as wooden fish, starfish, shells or ships and lighthouses, are also very popular.

There is a possibility to make the bathroom particularly light or dark. If the interior of the bathroom is to be reminiscent of the furnishings on a ship, then you should choose dark woods. A beach house, on the other hand, is characterized by the bright interior, which is why you then also reach for light woods and striking colors in the bathroom.

Would you like to bring the luxury and exclusivity of a yacht into your bathroom? Then take a look at our article about <hiddenlink href="https://fivmagazine.de/maison-valentina-luxus-bad-aussergewoehnliche-einrichtung-badewannen-waschbecken-moebel/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-type="post" data-origin="de" data-origin-url="/?p=106088">Maison Valentina</hiddenlink>.

Decoration: DIY, tips & tricks for cool decoration in maritime style

To give your home that special touch, why not put together your own decorations? You don’t know how? Then I have a few simple ideas for you, how you get the maritime flair in your house. It doesn’t matter if you’re not the best at crafting, it’s exactly the imperfection that makes a good decoration and creates its own charm.

Decoration: dune grasses, sand and shells

Do you have a flower pot over and don’t know what to do with it? Perfect, then this is your first basis for a nautical decoration element. This decoration is super easy and goes extremely fast. Take the flower pot and plant the grass you want. Then you simply pour the sand on the planted grass. Sand is available for little money on the internet or in the small animal department. Once you’ve poured the sand onto the grass, all you have to do is decorate the sand with shells, stones, etc. Et Voilà, your first accessory for your maritime interior is ready.

If that was too fast and you don’t like the outside of the flower pot, you can of course change that with a lot of patience. For this purpose, shells or plates in maritime colors are particularly suitable. If you have now the plates or the shells together, you can stick the flower pot with these. Now a unique piece is created from a boring flower pot.

Natural stones: Stones as small decorative elements in the living room and bathroom

Stones can be found on any beach in all shapes and colours and flat ones are especially fun to play with. Stones are everywhere, so if you have a few beautiful stones over, then I’ll tell you now how you can incorporate them into your interior design.

Look on the Internet for beautiful and simple motifs or sayings that you associate with the sea. Once you have done that, take your stone and acrylic varnish and create a base with the acrylic varnish. You can color the stone white, blue, or gray before you start writing on it. Once the base coat is dry, you can now use a brush and paint to label or paint your stone individually. If you want it to be even more precise, just use a sharpie, which is also available in different colours. After everything has dried, the stones look especially good on the windowsill or on a wooden board with shells and sand.

Wood & figures: Wooden decoration as an eye-catcher in every room

Straight woods make any room seem cozier. However, in maritime style, the wood not only reminds you of warmth and coziness, but also of a walk on the beach where you discover a lot of driftwood. So if you happen to have a wood over or several individual pieces of wood, I’ll show you how to turn them into a nautical centerpiece. It’s best to take several smaller and flat pieces of wood that are roughly the same length. Fasten them side by side with screws and a cross piece. Once this is done, sand the wood. Now you can either stain the wood to make it lighter or glaze it to make it darker.

Once the wood is properly painted, let it dry well before moving on to the next step. In the meantime, you can look around for suitable motifs or sayings that you would like to visualize on the wood later. Once the wood is dry, take a brush and paint and draw the motif or saying on the wood. Let that dry again and then you are already done.

It seems unattainable especially in the city, however, you will see that it only takes a few moves to make this dream come true in any home. The country style is one of the most popular interior design styles and creates a cozy atmosphere in any home, be it a <hiddenlink href="https://fivmagazine.de/haustypen-einfamilienhaus-fertighaus-ferienhaus-villa-haeuser/" data-type="post">house</hiddenlink> or an <hiddenlink href="https://fivmagazine.de/wohnungstypen-wohnungsarten-ueberblick-wohnungen/" data-type="post" data-origin="de" data-origin-url="/?p=105539">apartment</hiddenlink>. What exactly constitutes the country style, and how you can bring the country look in every room, we show you here! Back to the overview here: Furnishing styles.

Furnishing country house style: warm colours & romantic design

When you think of a country house, you immediately think of cosiness, homeliness and romance. Life in the country seems carefree and promises a happy time. The interior invites you to relax with its comfort. Especially after a stressful day at work, the feeling of warmth and comfort is exactly what you long for. To create this desired warmth, warm colours and lots of wood are used.

Tip: Living room, bedroom or dining room, we have tips & tricks for you: Guide – Furnishing rooms.

Walls in nude tones, pastel colours & natural materials

If you want to design your interior in country style, you have to use a lot of warm tones. However, this applies not only to the furniture but also to the walls. Especially popular are wall colors and nude tones or pastel colors, that is: a warm beige, light brown tones or gray tones, a warm blue or a warm pink. Nude tones and pastel colors match the wood and the textile and do not stand out in the foreground, but have a homely effect.

In addition to wallpaper, a lot of emphasis is placed on natural materials in the house, which make up the country house charm. For this reason, you can also include natural materials on the walls, which is why you can also reach for a stone wall or a wooden wall. Especially a stone wall from the masonry of the house, exudes the charm of tradition and gives the room its own unique touch. A wooden wall is especially cool when you bring in old timbers, perhaps from the barn of the house, that tell a story. If you don’t have a barn or old masonry available right now, then you can also put together a stone wall or a wooden wall from new materials that you can find for little money at the hardware store.

Typical materials: Pure nature, floor of (real) wood or stone must be

To pick up the country house flair with the floor, choose a floor made of wood, i.e. a beautiful laminate, or stone. You can gladly add a few highlights in the floor by tiles with a rustic or Mediterranean pattern. The rustic and Mediterranean look creates a feeling of homeliness and warmth. The tiles create a nice contrast to the rest of the house and fit in with the traditional look that a country home exudes.

However, if you do not have the possibility to complement the floor with tiles in a rustic look, you can easily achieve the desired result by using a carpet with a similar pattern.

Instructions: How to furnish your home in country style – Video

From the series: Fixer Upper, which runs on Sixx, Chip and Joana Gaines are well known. They restore old houses and give each house a unique look. By restoring homes in the city of Waco, in Texas, they make the homes look modern country style. In this episode, an old barn was transformed into a new home for a family. The interior design perfectly reflects the country style. Get inspired by this video and see what it feels like to live in a country home.

Country style living: kitchen, living room, bedroom

Country style means the use of natural materials, such as wood, cotton, leather, stone, electricity, clay, etc. with the mixture of things reminiscent of craftsmanship, i.e. steel, iron, metal and so on.

For this reason, the country house style is often mixed with the vintage style. Old furniture that tells a story and is made of sturdy wood fits particularly well in a country house. Particularly popular are oak cabinets, which radiate tradition and warmth through the ornate design.

Country house kitchen: Egg kitchen, doors, tiled floors, wooden kitchen unit & Co.

The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in a home. When you think a country kitchen, you automatically think of spending time with family and traditional home cooking. A country kitchen pays off with its usability and the coziness it exudes. You just want to enjoy being here with your family and spending time together.

A paneled wood front is a must if you want to have a country style kitchen. Here, it doesn’t matter what color you want the kitchen to be. Whether it is a modern blue or green or a traditional white or grey, one is given many options. To make the kitchen counter even more vivid, choose cool metal door knobs. The countertop should be kept simple so that the kitchenette doesn’t look too cluttered and the kitchen cabinets take center stage. Here you should also make sure that the countertop is made of a natural material, so wood, marble or stone. You can also play with DIY here and repurpose old materials as worktops. To complement the kitchen countertop, choose tile tiles that are meant to be a special eye-catcher and again refer to tradition. Whether plain or tiled with pattern, everything works great in a country kitchen.

However, the accessories are the most important in a country style kitchen. Here you mix the country style with the vintage and rustic style. Take a few cool vintage parts and combine them with stainless steel or metal to implement the country house charm. Old crockery as decoration, which radiates tradition, also belongs in a country kitchen, as well as fresh herbs or spices.

Country style living room: sofa, blankets and pillows with natural materials

The living room is the heart of the home and the room where you spend most of your time with the family and where you want to relax after a long, tiring day. For this reason, this room must radiate as much warmth, security and comfort as possible. By mixing textiles, wood and matching decoration, am can easily achieve this.

The sofa should be the center of the room. It should have a deep seat and enough space for the whole family. It is important to cover it with leather or fabric, which makes the sofa warm and cozy. To perfectly complement the sofa, you need a lot of pillows made of fabric or faux fur with patterns or plain and blankets made of cotton.

But besides the couch, there is another important factor and that is the decoration. Since the living room is the center of the family, you should also be reminded of beautiful memories and the family here. Therefore, one chooses many pictures that embody this and displays them in the living room. Especially popular here are picture frames in black or wood, which fit in with the interior. Apart from the picture frames, you can play a lot with decoration, important decorative elements could be, for example, the following:

Curtains

Carpets with pattern or in trendy nude tones

Plants and flowers

Lamps in wood look or vintage lampshade

Books: Old or new books

Old tableware in a country style oak cabinet

Bedroom á la country house: colors, bed and a wardrobe with lots of storage space

As in the living room, the bedroom also plays a lot with natural materials. The mixture of wood and textile also plays an important role here to achieve the desired country house look. The bed should have an upholstered back and be covered with fabric or leather, whereby it radiates coziness and warmth. The most important thing here is again the pillows and the blankets (bedspread), which give the room the necessary homely touch. A reading corner with an armchair and a cozy lamp, let the bedroom look even more familiar and invite you to relax.

Since many things in a country house should be practical, a cabinet with plenty of storage space is needed. The cabinet should be made of real wood and have a paneled front – the wood may also be squiggled. Here again, you can fall back on an oak cabinet, because it brings exactly these properties with it.

Country House Types: French, Italian & German Country House

There are different country house styles in each country. Among the most popular are the French, Italian, German, British and the US-American country house styles. Each style embodies a particular ideal and tradition of a country, so it is all the more exciting to be able to distinguish and analyze the individual country house styles.

French country house, savoir vivre – stone walls, vintage furniture and elegance

A French country house embodies comfort in combination with elegance and the charm of Provence. The French country style is characterized by the fact that contemporary and ancient, traditional materials are brought into harmony and work together in the interior. Characterized by natural materials, such as: Wood, stone, linen, cotton, terracotta and wrought iron furniture, a French country home works. The wear and tear of the furniture and decor embodies tradition and history. So it doesn’t matter if a desk has scratched corners or streaks in the wood – that’s what gives it the charm it needs.

The classic colors of a country house are also here the common colors, so natural tones or pastel colors. The special thing about French country houses are usually the shutters, which are kept in a special blue, the Sainte Vierge called tone. Colourful accents are set for upholstery, cushions or bed linen by fabrics with traditional, Provençal patterns.

Italian country house from Tuscany: rustic living, Mediterranean style

When you think of a country house in Italy, you think of a country house in the vineyards in the region of Tuscany, which lies directly on the Mediterranean Sea. The location on the Mediterranean Sea also influences the interior design and brings with it a Mediterranean style of interior design. Characterized by terracotta-colored interiors that bring you the sun and warmth of Italy into your home, the Tuscan country house stands out from other country houses. It’s not just the colors that make an Italian country home stand out, but also the furniture. Large, exposed beams and floors made of stone, such as: Brick, limestone, tile or sandstone give each room a special Mediterranean flair. Italian country houses are especially characterized by traditional family portraits or religious pictures, which can be found in every room.

Italian craftsmanship stands for quality and finesse. Exactly this quality standard can also be found in the interior, where a lot of value is placed on high-quality processed materials. Since the country houses are characterized by the Mediterranean style, you will find especially the wood of olive trees, pine wood and walnut wood, which give the whole a traditional and unique look.

These 3 details will bring la Dolce Vita to your home:

Furniture made of rustic, dark wood

Paintings (religious or family)

Bright yellow walls that bring the sun into the house

German / Austrian country house: traditional furnishings

Living like Heidi in the mountains was a childhood dream of everyone. Carefree on an alpine hut with spectacular views and good German home cooking and feel comfortable in the warm home in cold temperatures. German country homes are characterized by a lot of tradition. When you think of an Almhütte, you think of lots of wood and natural materials, like leather or fabrics. However, one also thinks of hunting, i.e. animal skins. So if you imagine a living room in a German country house, you see a wooden floor, wooden walls, a leather sofa, an armchair, a fireplace, warm blankets, curtains with a red and white check pattern and lamps.

Take a look at our holiday guide for South Tyrol to feel the flair of the mountains!

The interior style of a traditional country house in the mountains can therefore be described as rustic. However, the rustic style is now combined with the modern. This style is super popular among Germans, as it conveys warmth but also a sense of style and luxury. Therefore, modern chalets in the mountains in connection with a family or wellness holiday, are more popular than ever.

Here is an example of what a luxury chalet in the mountains can look like, the perfect blend of homeliness and luxury.

Minimalism Furnishings – Who doesn’t know it: personal or rather impersonal belongings pile up at home. There is no more room on the shelves, in the cupboards or on the windowsill and you sit in your own home, look around and ask yourself: do I even need this? This is where the art of minimalism comes in. Decorating in the style of minimalism can rid your apartment or house, and most importantly, your life of unnecessary clutter. What minimalist furnishing is all about, what this style of furnishing is all about and above all how you can best implement it in your own four walls, you can find out here! Back to the overview here: <hiddenlink href="https://fivmagazine.de/einrichtungsstile-xxl-landhausstil-industrial-look-skandi-stil-feng-shui-vorgestellt-erklaert/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-type="post" data-origin="de" data-origin-url="/?p=108342">Interior Styles</hiddenlink>.

Minimalist furnishings: Basic principles of minimalism

To design your home according to the ideas of minimalism you have to understand its history and its origin. Basically, less is more. Furniture is chosen with care and contrasts with the ever-increasing consumption. In doing so, detaching yourself from your belongings brings complete peace of mind and frees your thoughts.

Minimalism as an art movement: art and furnishings are close together

As a counter-movement to the painting of abstract expressionism, minimalism emerged in an artistic context in the 1960s in the USA. The artists were concerned with schematic clarity, logic and depersonalization. Their sculptures consisted of simple geometric basic structures and stood in contrast to Western traditions. At the end of the 1970s, minimalism finally found its way into architecture and living spaces.

Japanese minimalism: tradition of reduction to the essentials

But the traditions of minimalism have been around much longer than its name. In Japanese culture, minimalism is not a trend, but rather an attitude to life and has been for hundreds of years. The reduction to the essentials and the conscious renunciation in order to create space for these essentials play a central role. At the same time, the simple lifestyle and the few possessions are by no means a disadvantage: quite the opposite! The exterior is also reflected in the interior. If one lives in a clear and orderly space, this creates room for completely different things in the head and frees body and mind.

Living in minimalism: “How-to” with furniture & decoration

Who wants to come home from a long day at work to an untidy apartment riddled with chaos? The first step to minimalist living is decluttering. While it’s hard to part with possessions, even if you’re terribly reluctant to part with your belongings, we have the right method for you. In the end, it’s worth the effort: only those who can part with the old will be able to step into a simpler and more relaxed life.

Tidying up with Marie Kondo: “KonMarie Method” – Instructions

Japanese lifestyle expert and bestselling author Marie Kondo knows how to properly declutter without parting with happiness. She has developed a method in which it is about parting with the things to which you have no emotional connection or do not trigger a sense of well-being in the apartment. On the other hand, you keep the things that bring you joy and learn to appreciate them even more.

Collect all the objects and sort them. Now take one object after the other in your hand and ask yourself: Do I feel joy with this object? Does it awaken positive feelings in me? If not, it goes away – if yes, it may be kept.

Tip: Mucking out using the basket method

Grab a basket, make a tour through your apartment and you will notice several things that you probably do not need or have never used. Fill the basket little by little with these things, it is full that was enough for the day. After just one week you should notice how big your living space actually is and you will feel freer and more organized.

Living room: tips on wall colours, furniture & decoration

Everything has its use – unnecessary furniture and objects are omitted. A particularly simple interior is in demand here, furniture with clear lines. But simple doesn’t mean that you can’t live stylishly or elegantly at all: a minimalist interior can be classy at the same time without being obtrusive.

Are you interested in furniture and interior design? Then be sure to check out our <hiddenlink href="https://fivmagazine.de/interior-brand-guide-designer-marken-einrichtung-fendi-casa-versace-home/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-type="post" data-origin="de" data-origin-url="/?p=105615">Interior Brand Guide</hiddenlink> with over 30 trendy, luxurious and above all fashionable interior brands!

Wall colors: Natural tones are in demand – Bright and quiet living

What is allowed and what is not allowed on the walls? For your minimalist living room, you can’t go wrong with light and calm colours. Stick with light natural tones like calming beige or soft sandy colors. You’ll also get it right with black and white or grey. The light and soft colours will make your home look bigger and visually more inviting to your guests. Be careful not to overcrowd your walls. The more free walls, the better! This way, your one corner of the room really comes into its own and can shine for the whole room.

Materials: Furniture for the casual look – wood, concrete & metal

Besides wood, metal is often an important material – also for the floor. Make sure that everything in your living room furniture has a use. It’s about aesthetics and functionality at the same time. Here are a few ideas on how you can furnish your living room in this style:

A glass table provides simple elegance and offers visually more space

A side table is ideally perfect for further storage

A simple sideboard with doors can be used to store small items

Baskets or light wooden chests offer a nice place for bedspreads

Use the dining room table also as a desk

Deco is allowed: tips for minimalist decoration with vases, cushions & co.

It’s about doing without superfluous decoration, but that doesn’t mean that the little houseplant that otherwise brings you joy has to go. Keep it simple, especially ornate or decorated items are a no-go. Again, pay attention to natural elements, it helps:

A plain vase with reeds or dried pampas grass

Unadorned fruit bowl

Monochrome candlesticks in clean lines

Cushions and blankets in earth colours

Kitchen, bedroom, office: order in all rooms

In the other rooms of your home, the motto is also: simple, clear and above all functional. Closed cupboards and doors offer a lot of storage space – the key to order and a minimalist apartment is a proper method of storing things.

Bedroom: bed & wardrobe – functionality meets design

The bedroom is meant to be the place to relax, but more and more often items that don’t fit elsewhere are stored or put away in the bedroom. Often, huge piles of laundry pile up here as well, making you feel like you’re sleeping in the laundry room or utility closet. Here, the feeling of free space and room is important – a simple and slim bed with dynamic lines as well as a functional wardrobe with many drawers is already sufficient in the bedroom. So that it does not become too cool, a colourful accent may be set with a simple picture or a beautiful houseplant.

<hiddenlink href="https://fivmagazine.de/schlafzimmer-einrichten-einrichtungsideen-gestaltungsmoeglchkeiten-tipps-moebel-deko-artikel/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-type="post" data-origin="de" data-origin-url="/?p=107788">Bedroom furnishings</hiddenlink>

Office: Tidy up your desk and keep it clean – Tips & Tricks

The desk is often used as a storage place for small items such as keys, wallets or magazines. However, this not only makes it harder for you to work and makes you unfocused, your documents also sink into chaos after a while and you need a long time to work your way from one paper to the next. Put an end to this: get yourself enough folders and pen holders, sort everything immediately into drawers and binders when you’re done with something or no longer need it. For small items like chewing gum, keys and wallets, it’s best to have a small storage box.

As a desk, in order to maintain the minimalist look, a monochrome (light) table with slender legs and wooden elements such as wooden legs or drawer handles is best. Important: no massive tops or extravagant squiggles.

Office furnishings

Kitchen: cabinets and storage with system

In your kitchen, it’s best to store like with like. Go for a uniform food storage and keep pots and pans all in one place. Each area should have its own drawer or cabinet door. As much as possible, make sure to leave the countertops clear and keep the kitchen equipment down to the essentials. Depending on your needs and life situation, not everyone needs a microwave, blender or toaster. Work out your own system in the kitchen and choose your kitchen utensils wisely.

Family and minimalism: also possible with children?

As a single person or as a household without children, it is naturally easier to keep things tidy and not to accumulate too many things. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t live minimalistically with children. There are little tips and tricks on how it is possible to live in a relaxed and liberated environment, even with the family.

Children’s room: avoid chaos and create storage space

Toys and small items can be stored in beautiful baskets every evening. Otherwise, accessories and small items can again be stored in plain white chests of drawers or light wooden chests. Storage space is always the magic word. Toys and craft items should be able to disappear quickly, but still be accessible to the kids. Boxes and baskets are always an elegant solution.

Getting kids excited about minimalism: tips

Living minimalist is actually nice for kids too. There is plenty of room to play and let off steam and the little ones learn to keep things tidy at an early age. If a new toy is on the wish list, you can motivate them to sort out or give away something old for it.

From then on, numerous furniture icons were created under the Poltrona Frau label (Poltrona is the Italian word for armchair, by the way). Among them is the legendary club sofa “Chester”, which is still in production today.
Sofa icon: “Chester” club sofa – timeless design with quilted look

First included in the catalogue in 1912, Poltrona Frau took the Chester model as an example of the sofas and armchairs that could be seen in the English clubs and country houses of the time. More than 100 years later, Chester is one of the icons of furnishing history and since then has been synonymous with the authenticity and perfection of the Poltrona Frau brand. Its trademark is the particularly beautiful pleated finish of the armrests.

Sofa for friends & family: Chester One – more space for guests

Of course, even a legendary model like Chester needs innovation – with Chester One, the sofa offers even more comfort by adding a fourth or fifth seat. Nevertheless, the collection remains faithful to the original. The curved armrest, a support structure made of seasoned beech wood and the hand-shaped upholstery of the back and armrests made of vegetable horsehair. Suspension is provided by biconical springs, hand-tied and attached to jute straps. The seat cushion is made of goose down and polyurethane foam.

Armchairs: Poltrona Frau Armchairs – flagship & bestseller

Among the most successful designs from the early days of Poltrona Frau are the “1919 Armchair” from this very year, which is still in production today, as well as the “Vanity Fair Armchair” from 1930. As true icons of Italian design, these fashionable armchairs should not be missing in your Poltrona Frau living room – after all, the “armchair” is already included in the Italian name for Poltrona Frau and is considered a true symbol of the brand.

1919 Armchair – Sitting like a duke on this armchair

First created in 1919, as the name suggests, the stately armchair was originally custom designed for the Duke of Pistoia Filiberto Ludovico di Savoia. However, the specifically designed armchair quickly developed into a much sold favourite of the furniture label and is a true essential when it comes to noble interior design. A special feature of the fine armchair is the ashtray in the shape of a plate or drinking glass container, both of which can be attached to the left or right armrest as desired.

Vanity Fair Armchair: Elegant Emblem & Minimalist Design with Colour

A classic of Italian design, the Armchair was designed in 1930 and is still sold today in minimally modified form. On the occasion of its 90th anniversary, the Armchair was revised and thus perfected even further to provide an even more comfortable and inviting seating experience. After all, good design doesn’t get old.

Vanity Fair retains real recognition value through its rounded forms. A stylistic element that has been preserved are the rows of leather-covered nails that can be found, for example, on the side parts of the backrests. As in the Chester series, the upholstery is made of hand-modelled, vegetable and rubberised horsehair.

French elegance and Italian passion come together here: the Archibald armchair invites you to relax comfortably or meditate – and looks stylish at the same time. The central element of the armchair is the large, soft seat cushion, wrapped in a luxurious leather arm and backrest with a sumptuous goose down filling. The leather on the backrest creates a pleasant free play of waves, making the armchair lively and cosy at the same time.

The Archibald armchairs are available in various designs in several price categories:

Each Poltrona Frau bed can be individually adapted to your own needs. The range includes beds in every style, from minimalist modern beds to classic and imposing upholstered beds. For the bed of your dreams, you can choose from a variety of slatted frames and a beautiful range of leather colours.

Poltrona Woman Coupé Bed

Sleep with sporty elegance: inspired by the understated class and extravagance of the sports car, the Coupé bed is defined by clean, aerodynamic lines. The flowing and compact line of the bed is emphasised by two different geometric shapes between the headboard and the bed frame, which create a comfortable space for two.

Feel good all around with Lullaby Due

This round and unusual bed can be rotated clockwise and counterclockwise a full 360° thanks to its swivel mechanism. It can be placed wonderfully in the middle of the room and looks simple and timeless in its authentic 60’s look. The word “Lullaby” in the name gives the Poltrona Frau bed exactly the right spin, because in the Lullaby Due it is undoubtedly pleasant to lull yourself to sleep.

Poltrona Woman Aurora Due Bed

This spacious and inviting bed makes you feel safe and secure.
Collaborations: Poltrona Woman in Cars, Hotels & Airlines

Whether in the air, on the street or in the halls of government buildings, the perfectly crafted leather of the Italian luxury furniture label is not only found in your own living room. From concert halls in L.A. to the European Parliament, to first class suites of prestigious airlines or the interior of a Ferrari – Poltrona Frau is famous worldwide for its leather furnishings.

Poltrona Woman x Ferrari

Poltrona Frau has been outfitting Ferrari interiors for several decades. The leather for the nippy car seats and dashboards is significantly firmer and thicker. The customer can customize his sports car down to the stitch density of the seams. This gives each car a personality made of different leather, tanning, color and thread.

Since 2000, however, the Italian leather expert has not only been outfitting Ferrari automobiles. The popular British leather manufacturer Connolly ceased production and suddenly the brands were queuing up in front of the factory in Italy: Bugatti, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, Lancia, Fiat and Land Rover – Poltrona Frau leather can be found everywhere.

Poltrona Woman x Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines has equipped its new first and business class cabins with exclusive Poltrona Frau leather. The comfortable full leather seats can be fully lowered to a bed and the suite equipment can almost be compared to a 5-star hotel. In Business Class, the middle row has a continuous partition which, if required, can also be lowered to form a comfortable double bed.

Poltrona Frau x European Parliament

The European Parliament in Strasbourg also has an eye for the meticulous craftsmanship of Italian leather furniture. As early as 1996, the government building was supplied with high-class leather seats and armchairs by one of the most sought-after furniture manufacturers in the world. In your Poltrona Frau armchair you too can feel like a real global player at home.

Beds and sofas for restful nights & comfortable days

Moving house can be quite stressful! It is therefore advisable to make a point of having a decent bed or other form of sleeping accommodation that will provide a place to let the weight of the day fall away after a tiring move to the new home.

Sophia bed: double bed with soft upholstery

Especially for couples it makes sense to go straight for a double bed, but singles shouldn’t shy away from the simple soft bed with headboard and footboard upholstery either, because a big factor in creating a cozy living environment is choosing fabrics that evoke a comforting feeling. The velvety upholstery cover that covers the Sophia Bed turns out to be just such a fabric.

Pearl sofa: large seating and lying area

As an alternative to a large bed, you can of course also choose a sofa. However, this should either have a reasonable size or be extendable to be able to spend the night comfortably on the couch. The Pearl Sofa is definitely suitable for this, because it convinces not only by its size, but it is also a great statement piece, which will also impress your guests.

Dimensions: approx. 250 x 150 x 80 cm

Novak sofa: Simple all-rounder

If you are looking for a couch that not only looks elegant but also offers enough space for friends and family, you might find it with the Novak Sofa. The sofa is upholstered all around and is rounded off by two large armrests.

Dimensions: approx. 340 x 100 x 90 cm

Tables: writing and dining tables for every taste

The preference, what height should have a table is different from person to person. But it is certain that an apartment without a table is almost impossible. Whether for a game night, to eat or to work on it: A table is simply an indisputable essential.

Always great are individually extendable tables that are customizable to acute needs. Unfortunately, there are none of these at Essential Home. But there is a wide selection of other models. We’d like to share our favourites with you here.

Vinicus Dining Table: a dream in glass and marble

The first table we have chosen for you is a marble base with a round glass top. A height of just under 80 cm and a diameter of 130 cm offer enough space for 4 people. These can then choose to eat together, play games or even work.

Ezra Dining Table: Dining table with space for child and cone

For those who need a little more space, the label also offers larger, long dining tables that can easily be converted into office tables and other things. The Ezra table is characterized by its completely wooden design, which is on the one hand elegant, but on the other hand is also not a bad match with rustic furnishing styles.

Dimensions: approx. 250 x 100 x 75 cm

Craig Center Table: coffee table with unbeatable mid-century charm

How comfortable you feel eating and working at a low coffee table is up to you, but to give you a good idea of the range and options Essential Home offers, we thought we’d give you a look at the centre table option. The table is made of stone and high-gloss metal and looks very noble and is also very robust.

Dimensions: approx. 113 x 113 x 40 cm

Chairs and armchairs: Exquisite upholstered furniture

The function of chairs is pretty self-explanatory, but especially when you start furnishing your own apartment, it’s easy to underestimate how many chairs you actually need. Therefore, even with little available space, it makes sense to have a few extras available so that all guests can find their seats.

Perry Dining Chair: simple, solid seating

Walnut wood, brass and leather upholstery come together in this simple chair. In addition, the seat brings a huge advantage: the model is stackable and so the extra seats can be easily stored and do not require a large space.

Henry Dining Chair: Retro design inspired by the Italian countryside

Round, velvet-covered cushions characterize the chair and make it a unique piece. Hanry fits especially nicely u more simple tables and visually enhances the constellation. The velvet cover also helps to create a cosy atmosphere.

Loren Dining Chair with Sixties flair

The armchair is definitely more extravagant than the previously listed options. With its cushions, it reminds a little of the benches that you find in diners of the sixties. So retro lovers in particular are advised to go for this unique piece. The only drawback: the chair is unfortunately not stackable, but can be moved around the room as desired.

Cupboards: chests of drawers, wardrobes, shelves and co.

Of course, you want to offer all your belongings a proper place. On the one hand, this is possible with shelves in which you can display your favourite pieces, on the other hand, there is also the possibility to hide your chaos in the depths of a cupboard and to continue to present a tidy image to the outside.

From our own experience, we can tell you that especially when it comes to clothing, while we appreciate and love each and every piece, sometimes finding the perfect outfit just creates a bit more clutter than we would like. That’s why we’re showing you three different options to fit into a new home.

Collection: Minimalist bookshelves

Simple yet supremely modern, Essential Home’s bookshelves offer display space for personal treasures as well as space for books. The shelves can also withstand heavier loads and look particularly good in the office.

Minelli

Mulligan

Craig

Blake

Collection: Practical wardrobes and closets

Back to the problem from the beginning: too many clothes, too little storage space. That doesn’t have to be! Especially in your own apartment you want to avoid that everything looks too full, because that can quickly cause an uncomfortable and uncomfortable feeling. It’s super easy to get around this with the wardrobes, chests of drawers and wardrobes from Essential Home.

Franco Closet

Monocles Cabinet

Hepburn Cabinet

Claire Console

Home accessories: rugs, lamps & stylish mirrors

You may have wondered why decorative items show up on a list that’s supposed to be all about the essentials. The reason for this is that even small accessories can have a big effect. Especially rugs, mirrors and lamps help to enlarge the room, add mood and create a cozy atmosphere.

Mirror: Friendly light reflections

Essential Home mirrors come in natural and geometric shapes with frames crafted from brass. Reflective surfaces such as mirrors ensure that the light into a room is refracted differently and not easily swallowed up by the furniture and walls. This results in a larger and brighter looking room. Also, bare walls are quite a big drawback when it comes to new spaces. They can quickly appear sterile and create an unpleasant feeling.

Shirley

Diamond

Quantum

Wild

Carpets: Don’t get cold feet!

Another element that does an incredible amount for a room is rugs. Round or square, colorful or solid, no one is completely blind to the impact of a rug. Plus, they offer the opportunity to add a little pop of color to the place. And a soft floor brings another very decisive advantage: feet get cold less quickly and walking barefoot is no problem at all.

Allen

Audrey

Spielberg

Kubrick

Lamps: atmospheric light

Finding the optimal lighting is sometimes not so easy. Warm lamps are often recommended for private rooms, as professional environments such as offices and hospitals often use cooler light, as bluish lighting contributes to alertness. Some interior designers also completely discourage ceiling lights, instead advising individual lamps that can create a much more comfortable living feel when used as a unit. So, it is better to go for floor lamps, table lamps and ceiling washers. Essential Home offers here some models from fancy to simple.

Armstrong

Coltrane

Janis

Atomic
