Nike Waffle Racing Flat “Moon Shoe” – $437,000

The crown jewel of our list, and therefore the most expensive sneaker in the world, is the 1972 Nike Waffle Racing Flat “Moon Shoe”. Provided by Jordan Michael Geller during a Sothebys auction in July 2019, Miles Nadal, a well-known shoe collector, purchased the pair for more than $400,000 and displayed them in his private museum in Toronto, Canada shortly after. Nike’s “Moon Shoe” was originally designed for Olympic runners. Only 12 pairs were released in the 1970s, which is why it is still considered one of Nike’s most significant masterpieces. This pair in particular is known to this day as the only unworn “Moon Shoe” artifact, which is why it quickly surpassed the estimated price of $160,000 during the auction.

Fun Fact: Another rare pair was sold via eBay in 2016 – but ‘only’ for $11,200 at the time.

The story of Nike – a small idea big time

Nike, formerly known as ‘Blue Ribbon Sports’, was founded in 1964 and opened its first retail store in 1966. It was founded by athletics coach Bill Bowerman and his former student Philip Knight. Their successful sales of Japanese running shoes quickly led to a new idea: why not produce their own shoes? After the first shoe was available for public purchase in 1971, the company changed its name to Nike in 1978. Sales exploded, operations eventually expanded worldwide via the East Coast of America, and now made the company what it is: a dynamic global player that revolutionized not only the sneaker, but also the world of sports.

Michael Jordans Converse Fastbreaks – $190,373

The Converse Fastbreaks, worn by sports legend Michael Jordan himself, were auctioned off by an unknown buyer in 2017 for a record price of $190,373, making them the most expensive sneakers ever worn during a sports event. At the time of the auction, the sneakers were not in good condition, but they are considered an important asset in the sports scene: for example, Michael Jordan wore them early in his college career and they were also considered his lucky charms when he won the Olympic gold medal in 1994. He signed and gave them after the game to the then 11-year-old son of Los Angeles Lakers legend Gil Goodrich, who had kept them for the last twenty years.

Known as Michael Jeffrey Jordan by birth, he is now considered one of the most influential professional basketball players to ever exist in sports history. He dominated the sport from the 1980s to the late 1990s and was honored with several awards from the sports scene.

“Flu-Game” Jordan 12 – $104,765

These sneakers prove just how popular Bulls guard Michael Jordan’s shoes are. The pair was purchased by Preston Truman, a 35-year-old former Jazz ball boy, via an online auction in 2013. He paid $104,000 for the black and red sneakers, which were also signed. It should be noted here that the starting price was initially $5,000. The shoes were made famous by the 1997 “Flu Game” in which Jordan, despite flu-like symptoms, won 38 crucial points to help the Chicago Bulls win. Rumor has it that Jordan had spent the night before in a casino, which is why he was merely hung over during the game.

Self-Lacing Nike MAG – $104,000

Another gem from the house of Nike is in our list: In December 2016, these Nike Mags were sold by Hong Kong auction house Dragon 8 for $104,000 to an unknown buyer from Hong Kong. The sneakers achieved cult status through the 80s movie “Back to the Future” in which Michael J. Fox puts on just those magically self-lacing sneakers. Granted: This pair does lack any magical powers. Nevertheless, the Self-Lacing Nike Mags are still very popular today.

Single Nike MAG – $92.100

Unlike the 2016 Nike Mags, this pair is rather less functional. Nevertheless, it was sold in 2018 via the eBay shop of Shoezeum for a little less than 100.00 dollars. The unknown buyer was thus able to enjoy a true rarity: it is considered one of the few original props from the movie “Back to the Future II” that still exist today. A true artifact of the pop culture of the 80s.

FIV: Hello dear Carmen! Thank you very much for taking the time for this interview. Let’s start right away with the first question! You became a mom 2 years ago and your daughter always looks super cute. Where do you prefer to buy clothes for your daughter?

Carmen: I love shopping at Baby Kochs – my mom used to shop there when I was little. But I also always find something at my own baby brand Mamushka, of course, but there are also great things at Smallable, Kyddo and Donsje.

FIV: When you’re out and about with your daughter, certain things have to go in your handbag, of course. What are your current must-haves in your handbag that can’t be missing when you’re out and about as a duo?

Carmen: I always have a little activity bag with me that has little cars, mini books, and creepy-crawly animals, but also wet wipes and snacks – we never get far without snacks.

“Because we parents have superpowers”

FIV: It’s been a good two years since the birth of your daughter. How has your life changed for you personally after the birth?

Carmen: So many things have changed, but I personally have experienced one of the greatest personality developments. Nothing makes you as strong and at the same time as emotional as having your own child – at least I have never experienced it like that. I struggle every day with balancing everything and being a mom, wife, business partner and so much more. In the end, we manage everything somewhere because we parents have superpowers.

Carmen’s tips for moms-to-be

FIV: Do you have any tips for moms-to-be who are looking ahead to the changes with trepidation?

Carmen: The child is new in your life, but you should still try not to always align everything with the child – try to find a common rhythm and also keep your own routines. Of course, only as far as it is possible and you want.

FIV: You’ve also had a few trips as a small family. What are your must-haves for traveling since you’ve been a mom?

Carmen: I love our Joolz Aer travel stroller, the Stokke BedBox, and the entire baybies line – especially the wound cream.

FIV: Now we would like to talk about your own brand Oh April. Would you like to summarize your experience for our readers who would also like to start their own brand?

Carmen: For me, it’s a dream come true to be able to realize myself like this, to create things and try my hand at self-employment. To this day, I grow from the hurdles and never want to stand still.

Book: “My head a universe”

FIV: Besides being a mom, content creator and entrepreneur, you’re also an author. Your book “My Head, a Universe” has inspired and enriched many readers. What inspired you to write your own book?

Carmen: The fact that my universe has already granted me some unimaginable wishes. I was eager to share this secret recipe.

Your book as an audio book recorded by yourself

FIV: Not only did you write your book yourself, of course, but you also recorded it as an audio book yourself. What did this process look like?

Carmen: I recorded the audiobook in a trailer that had been converted into a recording studio. It was unusual to hear your own voice over and over again, but you have to go through that when you record an audio book.

Community has made all these successes possible

FIV: Looking back on your social media career, what has been your personal biggest success so far?

Carmen: It’s still incredible for me to reach so many people every day, to inspire them and make them aware of important content. My community has made all these successes possible, because without them I wouldn’t be where I am today.

FIV: Last but not least, we would be interested to know if you have any projects coming up this year that you can give us a sneak peek of?

Carmen: This year the focus is mainly on the second issue of the magazine, but of course we are already thinking about next year – here I can share an idea. We had thought about doing The House of Carmushka as a mom edition.

FIV: It’s always good when you’re not alone in such situations. What is your personal favorite Ninety-9 piece?

Caro: Definitely our bikinis and something that is now launching: our signature tops and dresses with super soft fabric and very everyday cuts.

Every day is always different

FIV: Besides your brand, you have many projects going on at the same time like social media, your podcast with Sonny Loops and a lot more. So you always have a lot going on, what does a typical day look like for you?

Caro: I get up at just before 7 and get ready for sports at 8. After that I go home again, shower and get ready for the day and then the first daily call starts. Then I go out with Skei and feed her afterwards. I make my to do lists every day and look at what’s coming up for the day, like collaborations, YouTube videos or TikToks and whether I’m working from home or going to the office. I then work through this list throughout the day. But you can say that every day is actually always different. In the evening, I like to end the day with my boyfriend on the couch, we order food or cook something and watch a series.

Own discipline: To Do lists & goals

FIV: Many projects require a lot of discipline. Do you have any tips for our readers on how to increase their own discipline?

Caro: Create to-do lists and set realistic goals. Because when you have achieved this goal, even if it is only a small thing or an intermediate goal, this triggers happiness hormones and motivates for the next day and the next goal. You can also write yourself little notes with reminders for everyday life and hang them up in the bathroom, for example, and regularly remind yourself of this positive energy.

Pussy talk together with Sonny Loops

FIV: As mentioned before, you have your podcast together with Sonny Loops and since you just have so many projects, we would be interested to know what inspired you to record your own podcast back then?

Caro: I wanted to do a podcast for quite a long time before Pussytalk, but I never really knew how to start and was pretty busy with other projects at the same time. Then Sonny approached me with the idea of a joint podcast and that’s how the whole thing came about. We can share the work so well.

P. Dondorf: Gladly, we have been active in the Aachen real estate market for more than 30 years. I think we do about 90% residential and about 10% commercial. With 7 employees, we are certainly not one of the largest in Aachen, but our employees. who work on the customer are all trained real estate agents.

P. Dondorf: Personally, I am always happy when I can fulfill a young family’s dream of owning their own home.
