Become a Speaker – What does a Speaker do? How much does a speaker earn? How do you become a speaker, do you need training? After our speaker agency interview, we got some feedback on the topic of being a speaker and becoming a speaker. So today we had a quick catch up with the owner of speaker agency Keynote Speaker One to talk about the question that many of our readers are interested in: How do I become a speaker? How much does one earn as a speaker? Can anyone become a speaker? We also wanted to start off by finding out how virtual lectures are changing the world of speaking – or are they? We’ll find out now, in the second interview.

Thanks to Keynote Speaker One: Speaker Agency (external).

How much do you earn as a speaker?

FIV: Thank you for taking the time again! Today we want to hear what tips you have for those who want to become speakers. Not only as a transition to my questions about becoming a speaker, I have to ask you! I’m sure many people are interested in one thing in particular: How much do you earn as a speaker?

Knowledge that creates money brings money. So simply put, the more effective your knowledge serves to achieve goals, this does not always have to be money, it could also be about building networks, for example with business representatives, more commonly known as lobbyists, the higher the knowledge transfer is calculated and charged. In short, if you manage to generate more money for the client, you can become a consultant or speaker.

First, though, it’s important to me, speakers don’t just work for money!

Prices for Speaking, Workshop and Coaching

There are many people who have, let’s say, made it, for whom money also no longer has the significance it has for others who are still starting out. They want to pass on their knowledge and experience to the next generation. For example, if millionaires speaking at a small startup conference. For them, it’s primarily not about the money, but about helping other people, motivating them.

To come to your question about the earnings, who starts as a speaker, without an agency, is already good with three-digit fees. As a rule, it is only one hour of work on site. Of course, there is preparation, travel, the final input for the participants, but it is often limited to 60 minutes when it comes to speaking. Those are the early days. Events with over 200 participants usually have people speaking who earn in the four-figure, five-figure range.

Then there are whole workshops or coaching sessions, so to speak, with simultaneous mentoring. Such a day can look like this, for example, that a lecture is given for 30 to 60 minutes, followed by a work unit for 30 to 120 minutes. This change takes place because, 4 times. The effort in the preparation is of course much higher. Accordingly, there is also a higher fee here.

When it comes to prominent speakers, as well as CEOs of large companies, we’re usually talking four-figure to six-figure amounts, for an appointment.

That information will have to do for now!

Topics that will make you a lot of money as a speaker

FIV: In which areas, or in other words, with which contents and lectures, can you earn a lot of money as a speaker?

I would answer the question like this: Don’t pay attention to the topics, but to the customers or industries. Also a good tip for all those who want to become a speaker. Which industry, economy or trade sector has high sales and at the same time many companies, i.e. potential clients?

A simple, classic area that really everyone knows are banks and financial institutions. They manage assets of wealthy people and are accordingly always looking for new inputs from all areas. Whether it’s marketing for reach, sales for closes, or digitization in companies, for more efficient, internal work processes. Such wealthy clients are naturally willing to pay more for good content.

Example: Facial expression training for asset managers

FIV: Can you give me an example of such a special and at the same time profitable area?

A practical example, one of our speakers is particularly concerned with facial expressions. That means he reads faces, more specifically, the emotion in the other person’s face. So he can see whether someone agrees or disagrees with an opinion, simply put. So if a wealth manager is sitting in front of a wealthy person in a meeting, proposing different investment options, he or she can tell by facial expressions whether the client is more likely to agree or disagree, no matter what he or she explicitly says.

Perhaps a client rejects a certain type of investment, simply out of principle or because he or she went into the conversation with other plans. But you can tell from the facial expression that there is a lot of interest, so the investment advisor should not change the subject now, but perhaps drill down a little further, once again mention advantages and so on. This is a simple example, but this simple action generates in the end perhaps an additional turnover of 10 million. All this by learning from 1 day.

Such knowledge, such skills are worth their weight in gold when it comes to investment advice.

Becoming a Speaker: Tips from the experts

FIV: Thank you for the insight. With this example you can see directly how deep the topics can go in your speeches or with the customers. I would also like to be able to read the facial expressions in the interview! Where do I pick up, where not, very exciting. That brings us right to the questions for our readers who want to become speakers! How do you become a speaker and what do you need?

Checklist: Become a Speaker

This is where I would give you very Speaker-Like, succinct bullet points. Let me think for a second. In very, very short, this is what it takes to become a speaker:

Who are you? Generalist, specialist or a known person

You need a track record or specific skills that lead to successes

You need a topic, better still a prepared presentation on slides

You need experience and reputation through project and customers

You need networking, outreach, orders, repeat business and referrals.

Your appearance: personality and theme

FIV: What do readers who want to become speakers need to know about each of the areas you just mentioned?

Okay, let’s recap in really, really short order. You have to decide how you want to appear. There are generalists, like CEOs, managers, self-made millionaires, who don’t specialize in a certain area, but can overview, understand and also explain more complex contexts. They know the steps, but often not the work itself. Simply put, someone had the idea for software, but doesn’t know how to program. Programmers do the work, she or he takes care of the management and development of the company, between programming, sales, accounting, human resource management, location management, etc. The same is true in business and politics. Here it is important to have reputation as a speaker, that means people know what you stand for.

Are you such in generalist? Or are you a specialist, i.e. the programmer who knows how to implement ideas and build an application from them?

These are specialists, they deal with a precise topic. The programmer perhaps with Industry 4.0 in digitalization, more explicitly with “Automatisms in production lines the automotive industry”. A generalist would rather give a lecture on “Industry 4.0 in the automotive industry”.

Important for these two groups of speakers, they need success stories! Because only those who have success stories to show will be perceived by others as mentors.

Then there are well known people, they are booked for your name, for internal and / or external reputation reasons.

So first and foremost, find your personality to portray to the outside world and your theme, or themes.

Experience and reputation (good reputation for recommendation)

FIV: What did you mean by experience and reputation?

Experience is made up of many components, the most important of which is your track record. You’ve been doing your job for 20 years and you’ve done it successfuly. Or, you’ve programmed an application that hasn’t been done before. You’re top in human resource management and now you’re passing on your experience as a headhunter. You have built a successful company. All these are success stories.

At the same time, however, failure is also ok, that is, mistakes that were made. The mix of success and failure then creates the hero story. Depending on how emotional you want to build your own speech, a very powerful tool for emotionalizing the audience.

Top lecture topics as a door opener for speakers

That brings us back to the topic. You need a topic that you understand and can explain. Especially if you are at the beginning and don’t have a big name yet, you need an exact topic that makes you stand out. In marketing, this is called the “long tail”.

FIV: Can you explain that a little bit more?

Before that, we were on Industry 4.0, a very general topic. A longtail would then be the topic “Industry 4.0: Automation in production lines the automotive industry”. It is much easier to establish yourself when the competition is small. The typical principle of supply and demand. Therefore, young people in particular who want to become speakers should focus on the fact that they place themselves in new topics, here they can address in particular older people and make them their customers. These lack the new knowledge, at the same time they already have assets to pay you, simply put. A win-win situation for both sides.

Now just comes the big question, how do you get customers? Network and reach are the answer. It differs depending on whether it’s about qualitative or quantitative networks. If, for example, you are dealing with the aforementioned “automation in automotive manufacturing”, you don’t need large distribution lists, but rather targeted, few contacts in the large companies and corporations. However, anyone who deals with the topic of “becoming self-employed and earning money”, for example, needs to address a large number of people (private individuals) in order to be able to make a living from it.

In general, I would say, as always when you want to become an entrepreneur, you need a certain topic, you then need to work on it enough and you need to find people who appreciate your work.

Does training as a speaker make sense?

FIV: Is there actually a speaker training?

Most speakers are self-taught. They are good at something and can explain it. I don’t think training is useful, at least not one that is longer than a little coaching, from another renowned expert. Also handy to see what criteria you would look for yourself when looking for a coach. But the danger is, one tells you this, the other that. What you then lose as a speaker is your authentic manner, whether calm or psyched up as an entertainer. So I would say coaching to package content better, to deliver better, in presentation and structure, makes sense. Anything that changes personality should be well thought out.

Live or virtual: advantages and disadvantages

FIV: In view of the current situation and all the digitalization, what do you think is better as an expert: live or virtual? Why: Especially through the time with Covid, we have done many things online that were previously almost always offline. For example, meetings, workshops and, of course, training and coaching. Did you have digital lectures?

I’ve also had a lot of digital lectures in the last year and a half. But I’m not a fan of it, at least not with the current solutions and bandwidths!

For example, I just had to split a group of 260 people, into three groups, so I had to hire an additional 2 speakers. All because it’s not possible to reliably bring more than 50, 60 people in one stream. This is despite the fact that we had already chosen one of the great software solutions for this appointment.

Problem: Bandwidth for video calls

FIV: What exactly is the problem?

The big problem, the bandwidth and the common processing of the data. I am the only one who can stream a video. The more that connect with video over, it’s no different with audio, the worse the connection gets. So basically I’m talking without seeing a single participant. At the first event I thought okay, this can be worked on. But now, a year later, it’s no different. As I said, I’m not a fan of digital training when those are the conditions when it’s also live.

In this example, it was so that no one could ask a question back without having to join in extra, after all, everyone has to deactivate their microphones and webcams. In a live situation, I would see a response immediately, digitally, without video, because of bandwidth or software, I don’t know, people have to actively decide to check in first. That’s an incredibly big barrier. That’s why hardly anyone dares to ask a follow-up question. It always feels like an interruption to the participants, so they feel like they are “interrupting”. It’s also hard to take away that feeling.

After all, you don’t see the reactions of the other guests and you don’t know how they are thinking or feeling, do they have questions or not? Am I the only one who doesn’t understand?

Communication and audience response

FIV: So live or virtual makes a difference?

Yes, live or virtual makes a big difference! Of course, there are always the exceptions, the very diligent, who can learn just as effectively digitally. But as a rule, emotions are part of it, as just discussed but also queries. As a speaker, it’s also much easier for me to see the number of questioning faces, depending on how specific the topic is. Then I can respond to them, for example, elaborate a little further.

At the same time, the participants have the opportunity to discuss among themselves, i.e. live, quietly during the lecture, but also during the breaks, and of course before and after the speaking. The spirit, from stage to audience, is also quite different. And in the end, it’s not just about the factual knowledge, the information, but above all about motivation, wanting to achieve more! Sometimes you first have to awaken the will, sometimes you have to focus and channel it.

Live lectures have many advantages, for the participants and accordingly also for the client. The results are more effective.

FIV: Thanks for the great and detailed answers!

Part 1: Speaker Agency and Trend Topics

Speaker Agency – Learning is something that never stops. We start with our parents, in kindergarten, come to school, do training or study, attend workshops, training and further education, learn languages, arts. Out of personal passion or to earn more money. Many companies invest a little more and book real experts for their company and their employees. Many names are only known in professional circles, others are prominent and known to all. We caught up with the owner of a speaker agency today to talk about the industry, processes and speakers. What are important topics for companies, what are trending topics? We also asked him: how does one actually become a speaker? Maybe you have some valuable knowledge of your own that you can share with others. But let’s start at the very beginning!

Convert taxes into assets? Alex Fischer’s tax coaching – Actually, we only know Alex Fischer as the Real Estate Pope (we gave him the title). He is one of the most avid real estate investors in NRW, with more locations in his portfolio. He privately holds over 20,000 square meters, in Düsseldorf alone and started with zero euros of equity himself, as the son of two teachers. From 0 to millionaire, who could advise you better than him? Tax coaching by Alex Fischer in the test: What does the tax coaching really bring? Are the tax tips of Alex Fischer serious? This is my experience report.

My motivation: save taxes, save taxes properly

Who am I? As the owner of the magazine, as a business owner in general, I have one problem like everyone: tax burden. Have you ever added up what your biggest “expense” item is? In fact, it’s taxes. The bigger your sales, your profits, the more taxes you pay.

My motivation? This initial question, which I still had before the coaching, almost sums up my motivation very well:

“How do you legally and sustainably reduce your tax burden in Germany to a minimum?”

And why doesn’t… or can’t my accountant do that?!

If you want to have an overview of the topics and different voices on tax coaching by Alex Fischer, then I can recommend the experiences of participants. On the page you will find many interviews from participants.

Tax coaching by Alex Fischer – Application

Tax Coaching Experiences – Participant Interviews

Alex Fischer, live in front of the tax coaching participants:

Conversely, the view from the audience to the stage of the tax coaching event:

Why the tax coaching of Alex Fischer?

In March, I “survived” my first 5 years as an entrepreneur. That gives confidence and with that confidence I wanted to finally learn how the tax game works. Not on some Youtube channel or with a book on Amazon, not a “small” tax course in Cologne or Berlin, I wanted to learn from experts. Preferably from an entrepreneur who made it to real estate millionaire even with zero equity.

As a managing director, I have little time, so I need condensed expertise. After a few comparisons with experiences and reviews of other tax coaching, my choice was crystal clear on the offer of Alex Fischer.

What bothered me about 99%? They offer dubious tax coaching, when you look at their business circumstances (for example via Northdata) you quickly see: Not serious. Offers on the Internet, which you reach via Google, are from windy online marketers, who have no idea about taxes. When it comes to taxes, I trust recommendations and personal experience. Both have matched here.

Application process and selection

You have to apply for this tax coaching. In fact, after your application, you will have an interview. Based on the data and the interview, it will be decided whether you have the right qualifications. You will see the selection at the start event at the latest. Doctors, master roofers, lawyers and board members of AGs. Here are only experienced entrepreneurs, self-employed and freelancers.

Acquisitions, depreciation and tax reduction

So I’m not interested in the “little tax 1×1” or “tips to save taxes”. I want to know:

What company structure makes sense in terms of individual sectors, acquisitions and depreciation.

In very, very simple terms:

I’ll buy the next property through my company,

About a new company (and if so, what does it look like)

Or is it private?

After tax coaching, you’ll understand…

After the tax coaching you understand the constellation around asset accumulation, asset lending, asset protection, asset transfer and also investments. Too many foreign words for the beginning? Let’s start at the very beginning. Why tax coaching at all?

On our finance and tax blog, I often write about real estate, financing, and give simple tax tips to our readers. Advantage 1: The better I understand the tax game, the more informed my articles on simple tax 1×1 will be. Benefit 2: As described above, I am of course primarily concerned with private wealth accumulation (for me).

I’ll tell you about my basic problem: “tax accountant.”

Alex Fischer experience: Become an advisor to your tax advisors

“Tax burden minimization to 8% to 15% is possible” – Alex Fischer

With such rates, the ears of entrepreneurs are of course immediately pricked up. Tax burden minimization to 8% to 15%? Yes. You just have to deal with it! Nobody likes to deal with taxes. But if you manage to find the necessary motivation, the tax game quickly becomes a lot of fun.

Only 2 tips in 5 years?! My tax adviser

As I said, I motivated myself more and more in March to actively tackle the issue of taxes.

Do you know how many times my accountant actively approached me, with tips, in 5 years? 2x

That is, in 5 years of paying well monthly, I have gotten exactly 2x pro-active tax advice from my accountant.

You can’t blame him or his tax firm either. The training is state-run and what interest should the state have in training tax experts who lower the tax burden? That would mean that the state would take in less money. Ergo: tax consultants administer, they do not design.

Tax consultant training: administrator, not designer (excursus)

If you want to become a tax advisor in Germany, you have to complete a training course. Depending on the offer, this can take up to 1,200 hours.

This covers many topics such as tax procedural law, excise and transfer taxes or business management and accounting – but not tax optimisation. Why? The training is organised by the state. If the state itself were to train tax professionals, these professionals would ensure that you pay less tax. Less taxes means less revenue for the state. Here lies the dilemma of entrepreneurs and the realization:

Taxes are a matter for the boss

In fact, the tax advisor exam teaches and quizzes more basic areas of knowledge. The examination areas of the tax consultant examination are defined by the Tax Consulting Act (StBerG). You can quickly see how general the topics of the exam are by taking a look at the syllabus. Knowledge in the following areas can be the subject of the exam:

Fiscal procedural law (AO and FGO) as well as fiscal penal law and fiscal offences law

Taxes on income and earnings

Valuation law, inheritance tax and property tax

Excise and sales taxes, main features of customs law

Commercial law and main features of the German Civil Code (BGB), company law, insolvency law and European Community law

Business administration and accounting

Economics and professional law

In the tax coaching, I already had more input at the welcome event than I probably would have gotten in 100 years of working together, with my tax accountant. That’s what I wanted, that’s what I wanted. I want knowledge from real experts who take me to the next level, even with topics I had thought of once again.

Tax planning is your job as an entrepreneur – that’s for sure.

Tax coaching: 9+ weeks test

To learn how this works and to get much, much more valuable tax knowledge, I started the coaching 9 weeks ago, sort of as a self-experiment.

Launch event in Düsseldorf with further experts

As I said, we applied for the tax coaching. About 20 days later, we were at the kick-off event near Düsseldorf’s Königsallee, more precisely at the Hotel Intercontinental. There were almost 400 participants. This is also where the final event takes place after various digital coaching sessions, webinars, implementation vouchers etc.

Both events are staffed with top-class experts. So, there is not only the know-how of Alex Fischer. He also has experts from his close circle at the event. Persons, to which one would otherwise never approach as entrepreneurs or freelancers. Because, these experts optimize otherwise companies. We could even personally address the experts with questions.

Digital coaching, webinars and implementation vouchers

Between the events there are various digital coachings, webinars and implementation vouchers. Here you can once again pick out specific experts to ask questions exclusively in private. That was handy, because as you know from your own business, structures can be complex.

But that’s what makes coaching so special. Because in the end, you don’t just go there with extremely deep tax knowledge, the community also enriches you if you want. Especially through first-class contacts.

Between the live events it’s all about know-how and training in the knowledge base. By timing, it’s only 8 weeks, but the density of information was so high, I was happy to take the extra time. After all, it’s about structuring my businesses and my acquisitions – the tax game. As I mentioned before, the fact that Alex Fischer now publishes content in the tax / tax optimization points really surprised me. All the more reason I wanted to know what Alex Fischer’s tax insiders are. Many say he is a real “real estate pope”. In fact, he himself holds, privately, over 20,000 square meters, alone in Düsseldorf.

PS: “Richer than the Geisses” is his bestseller. Read more about it here:

Conclusion: What have I learned?

Now I could spend another hour telling you about tax coaching, the live events, the experts, the digital coaching, the webinars, and much more. In order to keep the experience report short and sweet, I thought about giving you a top 3 as a conclusion!

My Top 3: Learned and Experienced

In the “Next Level Tax Coaching” I have learned and you will learn how you can legally and sustainably reduce your tax burden in Germany to a minimum. As I said, 8 to 15% are possible, but the special thing about this coaching is the combination of these 3 aspects:

Tax know-how

Business know-how

Investment know-how

I particularly appreciate the investment know-how. Because now I know which purchase I have to make in which way, for example to use taxes advantageously as a leverage effect. This gives me more presentable equity. Just one aspect that is extremely interesting for entrepreneurs in growth.

If you were to ask me which part of the coaching I enjoyed the most, the live events would definitely be number 1. The close and personal contact with Alex’s experts was extremely insightful. I understand the famous “tax game” more and more and I can now apply it to myself and my businesses with tax coaching. Paying less tax means more room to invest. Goal achieved.

Live events with Alex Fischer

Close exchange with AF experts at the events

Knowledge database is available online 24/7

Stephan Czaja is one of the young talents in the field of Creative Arts. With his companies, his books and his performances as a speaker, he quickly established himself in the fashion industry. So fast that he even helped organize the last show of the Berlin Fashion Week this year. As project planner for models, designers and castings but also creative arts for the fashion show. Stephan Czaja is the head behind agencies like CM Models, Social Media One and Model Agency One. At just 32, he is now presenting his first big international show. With 400 invited guests, 27 models, 3 designers, 1000 people at the aftershow party of our magazine. The big highlight was of course the location, the Haubentaucher Berlin. In the Beach Club an extra runway was built on top of the swimming pool, 16 meter catwalk over the water.

We met him one day after the fashion show at the hotel to get the best tips & insights for you, for the first fashion show! How do you reach the right people, like influencers, buyers and press representatives?

The first fashion show & highlights

FIV: When did you organize your first fashion show?

I did my first fashion show relatively early, directly one year after the foundation of CM Models 2015, when I was a showroom event with 150 invited guests, customers, friends, media representatives. We didn’t do the show for a client but as a celebration for the one year anniversary of our agency. The location was really fantastic, right next to a park, on 2 floors, flooded with light, with DJ, runway, summer fashion and of course sufficient catering. That absolutely gave me a taste for it and since then I love to organize fashion shows. Even if the evening is always hectic and stressful, especially with over 300 guests, over 20 models, I love the job.

FIV: Your shows are also known for having relatively many influencers in the front row. Have you built your company from the first moment on in such a way that you have models, fashion agency and influencer under one roof?

Both are conditional. By working with very young people when it comes to modeling, we automatically come into contact with many who are present on YouTube or Instagram. Sometimes our models are even both, so we are all the happier when we have you on our shows. And when of course some friends want to come with us, we are even more happy. We founded our social media division one year later, precisely because of that. It was a great time, we were able to accompany great people like Jeremy Fragrance, who built up the world’s biggest perfume Youtuber on his own, or Fabian Arnold, who won the Sport Influencer Junior Award from Pamela Reif and Angelique Kerber, at our first Influencer Award. Back then with 30,000 fans, today with half a million instagram followers and resident in Los Angeles.

So the close connection to YouTube and Instagram World came by accident and we are very happy when young people make so much of themselves and use their talent! At fashion shows or at the Fashion Week you come together from all over the world. One was just in Los Angeles, the other in London and of course I was busy in the office!

Rafael Poschmann / East News Fashion Week Berlin Runway Show B.A.R.E.

Tips for designers?

FIV: With “The Model Book” you have written one of the most successful books for models, which is now even published in English. You’ve been working a lot in the fashion industry, not only practically but also theoretically with your book. You have thought a lot about this, what is your big tip for young designers?

Before we talk about fashion shows right now, you’ve asked a really good question, because no matter what, it’s always about hanging on!

Already knew 9 out of 10 companies fail in the first five years. As an entrepreneur you have to be aware of this, but also as a fashion designer. A golden rule is always to stick to it, every entrepreneur, every fashion designer has doubts or financial difficulties at the beginning, but that is quite normal. But the longer you are there, the better your contacts will be and the better you are connected, the more turnover you will generate. That’s why it’s so important to stay on the ball. Not only for half a year or for one year, but for three years, four years, five years. This results in a lot of things at some point all by itself!

A second important point I would add here is an important sentence from one of the greatest entrepreneurs there ever was, Mr Henry Ford. The automobile entrepreneur changed the world at that time through his production methods on the assembly line. He coined the phrase, for every dollar you invest in your product, you must have another one ready to make it known. As a young designer you have to know that you are not only allowed to sit on your creation and your collection, but you have to invest at least as much time to promote your collection. Be it events, social media marketing or targeted placement with buyers and wholesalers.

Rafael Poschmann / East News Fashion Week Berlin Runway Show B.A.R.E.

Organize and plan your fashion show – Top ToDos

FIV: What are the three most important points when you are planning your first fashion show?

Event-Location

Very important and essential is a good place for the fashion show. This must be confirmed very early, as there is a lot of orientation here. Be it the number of guests, the possibilities of the rooms for relocation, make-up and styling, but also the entire logistics before and after the show.

As a designer, you should always make sure that there are enough rooms available at the location, in the right position. After all, the models should not be seen half-dressed. Accordingly, there needs to be a room for the catwalk, the catwalk must be at least 10 meters long. In front of the catwalk there must be a stage or at least a curtain. Behind it you need space for clothes rails, models, fittings, make-up, planning and so on.

Outfits and collection

As a designer you should of course get your collection together on your own. However, there are often little things that young designers in particular do not pay attention to. And it’s not even details but things like shoes. Are there enough shoes in the end or are there shoes at all? Are there enough pants for the models? Do you have the right clothing sizes and shoe sizes? All these questions have to be answered in advance, because on the day of the fashion show a lot of personnel and capital is needed if things still have to be done. At shows with 25 models, the logistical effort of 25 pairs of shoes that fit perfectly is extremely complex. Therefore all collection parts and outfits must be considered in advance to the sizes of the models.

In the fashion industry, many people ask why all models look the same. Exactly here lies the reason that the more different the models are, the more parts have to be made individually. The more uniform the models from the model casting are, the easier it is for the designer.

Models and Selection

For the reasons mentioned above, it is therefore important to organize models at an early stage. Either through your own circle of friends, for young designers or through agencies for designers who already achieve significant turnover.

FIV: In addition to the big points, there are certainly also details that you have to think about, especially when you organize the first fashion show, do you come up with something from your practice that is often not taken into account during planning?

Personnel planning and fitting aids

The first point that comes to my mind about your question is personnel planning. Personnel is seldom included in the planning in the quantity in which it is necessary. This is not only about people who help with the entry or the distribution of seats, it is also about fitting help, of course, people who help with the moving. The better the organisation of the staff, from the entrance to the distribution of seats to the changing of models, the smoother the day or evening will be. The staff should therefore also receive a correspondingly precise briefing on the tasks they have on the day of the fashion show.

Outfits & Accessories: completeness and list

We had just discussed shoes and trousers, which of course have to fit and of course have to be organized in advance. And of course there are even more detailed accessories, from sunglasses to handbags. It is not only about having the right accessories but also brands that support your own brand. For example, if you have a Prada, Hermès or Dior handbag with you, it will automatically increase the value of your brand through image transfer.

Make-up and hair

Is a girlfriend enough to do makeup and hair? No! For a fashion show you need a lot of make-up artists who make sure that the style of your models is perfect. Accordingly, personnel for hair and make-up must also be planned and organized. Not only the staff, but also the lighting, make-up mirrors, equipment, tables and of course the sockets for smoothing irons.

Photographer: photo and video material

Also very important is your own fashion show photographer. After all, the fashion show is there to present your new collections to as large an audience as possible. So that not only you have pictures and video material from the fashion show, you should consider a photographer or videographer in advance, who captures the entire event. From the preparations in the backstage area to the guests and the outfits they wear. And of course the big fashion show and every single outfit on the catwalk at the end. The aftershow, of course it must also be recorded! You will not only use the photos for yourself but also send them the day after to the press and media representatives. This increases the chance that you will be published in the media. The more frequently your fashion brand is seen, the more presence you have in people’s minds.

Guest list Contact and seats

The higher the quality of the guest list and the more work it entails. Especially if you manage to get big bloggers, buyers, CEOs or even media representatives on your fashion show, you will have to work many days on the list. Because no mistakes can happen on the day of the fashion show. Every seat must be precisely planned and organised. Not only does every important person need a seat, you also need to set the order and seat distribution. Who sits in the front row, who sits in the middle, who sits at the beginning and end? Accordingly, you should start early with your guest list, especially if your contacts are already good.

Rafael Poschmann / East News Fashion Week Berlin Runway Show B.A.R.E.

Guest list: Influencers, Buyers and Press

FIV: That’s right, with your own fashion show you can reach many people as a fashion designer. Maybe we’ll stick to the subject for a moment. How to reach Influencer? What is the best way to contact them so that they can really look at themselves?

Two concrete tips would be, be brief with your cover letter, be concise and interesting and simply ask them directly via Instagram or via email if they are only on YouTube. The direct address, friendly and nice is usually the most effective way to convince a loose to come to your own event. The important thing is to be very brief. Yes, of course yoga gets a lot of requests every day. So don’t explain too much, why and why. Just say, this is my show, I would be very happy if you are there, here are the most important dates of the event. Then you just write the date, start time and of course the information that you would like to put him or her on the guest list with accompanying person.

Here is a little extra tip, of course you can also contact Influencer agencies, Social Media One and ask if artists and bloggers want to drop by. I would rather recommend the personal approach, because as a fashion designer you can also build up a long-term personal relationship. After all, you don’t want it to remain a fashion show, but ideally you present your fashion for every new season!

FIV: What can you recommend so that young fashion designers can reach important buyers or owners of boutiques or even fashion chains?

If you don’t have a name yet, you’ll have a hard time to get a nameable buyer or to decide on your own event. Nevertheless, the speech is worthwhile, because the more doors you knock on as a young entrepreneur, the more opportunities arise. Here the old principle applies, 90% work, 10% talent. If you invest time in getting important people, e.g. from big online shops, on your event, who could become potential customers, then this pays off if you manage to convince one or two per show.

But my recommendation is rather to use the time to get multipliers on your event. The bigger your own community becomes, the more interesting you become your brand or your name for buyers.

FIV: How can young designers convince the press and media?

Press is the biggest sticking point. Just like large influencers with over a million followers, media representatives are difficult to reach without a very good network. To get big fashion magazines on your event without a very good network, impossible. Therefore you should not focus your work on the top ten media, no matter if print magazine, TV or social media, use local media, they also search daily for good content for online and print. And through local press you can also reach local boutiques, potential customers for your fashion label.

That’s why you shouldn’t just focus your energy on big media houses, sometimes even waste it, think of smaller media, they also give you reach. From the regional newspaper to the fashion blog.

Models and castings

FIV: First the question: How much does a model actually cost for a fashion show?

The costs for a model cannot be quantified exactly, depending on whether it is a start-up fashion label or an established, international brand. However, the price is at least in the three-digit range. The investment pays off, which is why all established designers resort to model agencies. Here it is about uniform sizes, professional running but also about punctual appearance and guaranteed replacement in case of failure. Many advantages that fashion designers appreciate so that their own show is not endangered and all collection items are presented perfectly.

FIV: What would you recommend, friends or real models from an agency?

For young designers it is of course absolutely worthwhile to fall back on their own contact network. As just described, it becomes more and more important with the increasing degree of professionalism not to endanger the show. If, out of ten planned models, 3 are cancelled, the fashion designer is faced for the first time with the question: “Would it have been better to book with a model agency? The next aspect is the professionalism of the run and the experience. Anyone who has ever run for brands such as Dolce & Gabbana or Burberry, and of course for top German designers such as Dorothee Schumacher or Guido Maria Kretschmer, knows how to present fashion. The third aspect is uniformity. The more uniform the models are, the better the fashion show can be planned, the collection parts and the more uniform the look is. The more uniform the look, the less distracting from fashion.

FIV: How can you promote a casting so that many models come to the open casting for the fashion show?

There are several possibilities here.

If you happen to know something about social media marketing, I would recommend an advertisement or an advertised contribution. On Instagram a simple posting or video that promote by an advertisement with 100 € and only on your own city, e.g. Berlin or Hamburg. You set the age, e.g. 15 to 25 years and you have a great advertisement that reaches exactly the right people in the city, with the right age. How this works can be read in my new book, “The Social Book”

If you don’t know anything about it, I would recommend to display small flyers in boutiques. Boutique owners often like to help and so you reach an audience that is interested in fashion and tends to be younger. So, in theory, you don’t need anything but a copier and a smile. And of course don’t forget your Instagram account! Even if you only have 1,000 followers, use them! Because they too have friends and friends. So make daily small stories and also the one or other posting in the apron of the casting with a concrete call to participate in it!

FIV: Thank you so much for this interveiw Stephan!

The topic of influencers and bloggers is currently becoming increasingly important. Many brands and, above all, beauty companies are currently organizing events exclusively for influencers to introduce new products or to draw attention to the brand. But one question remains open. What do you do on such an event? There are so many possibilities and that’s why I took a look around what other brands did, thought things over for myself and summarized them for you.

Program highlights on influencer events

The A & O: food!

Food is in a good mood and of course you want to have it at an event. It is great if you can connect the food with a conscious Fun Fact. Of course, there are many different ways to present food and, of course, different things to serve. What arrives good and what is fun, I’ll show you now.

The classic: buffet from the catering

Of course this is the easiest way to serve food. There is a lot of choice, everyone finds something and you can sit comfortably together while eating, exchange ideas, meet new people or just enjoy.

The Candybar: My highlight with cupcakes & more

There are many ways to put the candybar around. Whether macarones, cupcakes a gummy selection, cotton candy or chocolate. The Candybar offers a wide range of options. Everyone can choose something and it’s more than finger food. People eat while standing it’s a laid back atmosphere.

The mixture of both: Fingerfood & Candy!

You want more than just finger food and sweet serve but not directly a huge buffet must build. Of course, there is also a variant where you can mix light food with the fun of a candy bar. These include, for example, salad bars, where you can put together salad yourself, plates with hearty finger food on the tables and possibly a few sweets as a dessert here and there. People can sit and choose whether they want a proper meal or just appetizers. Especially since this variant can run in parallel next to the normal program.

Influencer Events: Full program with products and talks

Of course, the influencers do not just want to go to an event to eat and meet others. Often the program specializes in the brand. Such a program is easy for beauty manufacturers, as they can work a lot with their products and themes. For all the others I have some ideas here.

Individual events: Personalize and do it yourself

It has a certain fun factor and after the event you have a very special memory of the day. Personalizing clothes or accessories is possible in a variety of forms. For example, patches, small stickers made of fabric, which are pressed by heat on clothing. A great way to quickly and beautifuly turn your clothes into something special.

Social Media Content: Great Class Reunion

The intention of such a meeting is, of course, a large reach of people to talk to. Of course, using the followers of the Influncer on such a meeting is the main intention. In order to provide the influencers with good footage for posting, things like a boomerang box or a photo wall are great.

Make-up and Styling Corner: The Must Have for Bloggers!

Since most influencers are female, make-up corners are great. The influencers can get make-up tips and the fun factor is missing there by no means.
