Philipp Plein’s story: founding the company

Fashion designer Philipp Plein was born in Munich on February 16, 1978. Alongside the legend Karl Lagerfeld, he is one of the most successful and well-known designers in Germany and it is hard to imagine the fashion industry without him. He has definitely made a name for himself with his unusual pieces, and his pieces are recognizable at first glance!

In 1998, he founded his company International AG, which is now based in Switzerland. Before that, Plein studied law, but he didn’t seem to want to do that in the long term! He started designing furniture and then bags and accessories. In 2003, he was given the opportunity to design the lounge for Moet & Chandon at the German CPD trade fair in Düsseldorf. There he took his chance and sold his accessories, which he designed from old leather, for the first time.

Philipp Plein: As conceited as they always say?

He is known for his many tattoos, his well-trained body and his swanky watch! But is that all he has to offer?

Plein has always been a “dreamer”: he always wanted to aim high and realize his dreams – that was and is his greatest motivation. Many interpret his single-minded attitude as arrogance. Plein explains what you should bear in mind with his “strategy”:

Battle for son Romeo Prince: reunion after four years

Philipp Plein spent four years fighting for his little son Romeo Prince, who is now seven years old. The child’s mother (Fernanda Rigon) took him to her home country of Brazil in 2014 to keep him away from his father. Plein fought against her with numerous lawyers – to no avail! He only wanted his son to experience one thing: a mother and father who could look after him and give him a stable family life. After four years, this battle finally seems to be over and he can finally hold his son in his arms again!

Plein in love: this is his girlfriend

Girlfriend Lucia Bartoli is always by his side everywhere he goes: whether in Cannes, Lugano or New York – there are three places he calls home! Ever since he finally introduced her to the public, she has never left his side! In an interview, when asked what she does for a living, Lucia replies that she is a “full-time girlfriend”! I wonder if Plein likes to hear such an answer in an interview with his girlfriend!

Numerous surprises

Plein likes to surprise his sweetheart “here and there”: whether at home or on an airplane – the two of them seem to be on cloud nine everywhere! Despite his tight schedule, he likes to make time for his girlfriend.

Lucia adores her designer boyfriend and says she misses him when they are apart. In an interview with RTL, the two claim that their “love secret” is that they are stuck together and it’s funny when they are apart – if that’s not an unusual attitude!

From the first textile store to the absolute luxury brand

Burberry is one of the most famous high fashion brands in the world. The brand has become particularly famous for the invention of the trench coat and the famous check pattern, which everyone now recognizes. Burberry’s brand identity is characterized by the famous check pattern, which has been featured on the label’s trench coats and scarves, for example, since it was first used in 1924. Burberry’s designers: the road to high fashion

Thomas Burberry opened his first textile store in Hampshire in 1856. He became famous for the gabardine fabric that he invented and used for his designs. It is a fabric that is very durable and waterproof, but at the same time breathable. Thomas took the fabric and his items to international wholesalers. After that came his very greatest success: the trench coat! This was invented by him and made Burberry famous. Because probably everyone wants to own a trench coat and preferably, of course, the classic Burberry.

Since 1998 Roberto Menichetti designed the fashion for Burberry. He was the one who made the popular check pattern so famous. Before, it was only known as lining but Roberto Menichetti turn it outside and people loved it. To this day, the camel-black-red-white check pattern is an integral part of the brand.

Christopher Bailey: See now – Buy now

The successor designer became Christopher Bailey. He designed all collections for the brand from 2001-2018. When he joined the company, the label had a slightly old-fashioned reputation. But he changed it into a globally respected label that set international trends. Every year he surprised the world with an exciting new design of the famous trench coat. Sometimes the trench coat was seen in bright neon colors, sometimes with lots of fluffy sheep’s wool. However, Bailey put his focus not only on the collections, but also on branding and marketing. He always adapted to the spirit of the times and developed new ideas. For example, he made sure that his fashion shows were the first to be livestreamed. He also developed a new concept called “See now- Buy now”. The basic principle is that you can see fashion you like and buy it directly. Experience fashion directly! Fashion that no one has to wait for, that is his idea. In addition, he had the idea to present fall fashion in the fall and spring fashion in the spring and not as usually the fall fashion in the spring and vice versa. Actually a simple idea, but the implementation proved difficult. Not many people were convinced by the idea and his own designs suffered from it and became a bit boring. After 17 years with Burberry, he decided to go a new way.

Riccardo Tisci: Kim Kardashian wedding dress designer

Since March 2018 Riccardo Tisci is the new designer for Burberry. Previously he worked for Givenchy and even designed Kim Kardashian’s wedding dress. In September, he will release his first real collection for Burberry. Everyone is eagerly waiting, because it has already been announced that a new drop culture is planned. This means that the designs will be released little by little to build excitement. In May, the designer had already provided a small taste. He released a capsule colllection with a lot of heritage pieces, that is, clothes from a bygone era pimped out again. It is clear that this designer is always good for a surprise and is an expert in mixing and matching different styles. Also, Tisci is a sports fashion fan, so maybe something in this direction awaits us? We are curious!

Riccardo Tisci wows the world with his fall 2020 collection and show. Models in outfits with extravagant dresses and coats fly down the runway. One of the models even wears a star around his neck as an accessory! The show is accompanied by live music on the piano.

Burberry logo and trademark

The logo of the brand at that time was a knight in his armor, sitting on a galloping horse and carrying a lance in his hand. Meanwhile, the knight had to go, instead there is the Burberry in sans serif font and new addition. The absolute trademark is the trench coat. Here you can see the old logo of Burberry. It is the knight on the galloping horse. On the lance there is a flag with the inscription Prorsum. This is Latin and means forward in German. It stands for the fact that the fashion industry is always evolving and never stands still.

New logo & monogram promise a fresh start

The new designer Riccardo Tisci scares people! He developed a new logo a few days ago and only a few months after his new start at Burberry. Apparently he has big things in store! The biggest change, the knight is gone! The complete logo that has been part of the brand since 1901 is no longer visible. In addition, the classic Burberry lettering has been replaced by a different font. Instead of the signature “established 1856” is now “London England” under the Burberry lettering. In addition, the intertwined initials of the founder Thomas Burberry now adorn the monogram.

Unforgettable fashion shows: George Ezra in livestream

Social media has always been an important part of Burberry’s fashion shows. They were the first to livestream their fashion shows on the internet. In addition, good music was always part of it. The creation of the fashion label Ted Baker

Ray Kelvin once made a name for himself in 1988 as a shirt specialist. Humor has always been Ray’s greatest strength. The designer also created his fashion then and now according to this motto. Advertising via television or posters? Ted Baker used nothing of the sort to promote his products. Word of mouth, that was the key to Ray’s marketing strategy. Ray Kelvin’s resignation after harassment allegations

Hugs and ear massages: Many of his employees accused this behavior in 2019. CEO Ray Kelvin is said to have hugged employees against their will, as well as urged them to sit on his knees and have their ears massaged.  The 62-year-old did not confirm these accusations. Despite all of this, he resigned from his position as CEO with immediate effect, after numerous media outlets demanded Ray’s resignation. Ray Kelvin has always been a mystery. At official photo events, the inventor of the fashion label liked to keep a hat or even a shoe in front of his face to stay in the background as much as possible. After inventor Ray Kelvin left the company, he stayed out of the spotlight for a while. Lindsay Page, the company’s new CEO, now has power over the fashion label. But what happens to the brand now? Shortly after the accusations about Ray’s misconduct, the company’s stock fell sharply. The share price already dropped from GBP 32 (EUR 35.4) per share in March 2019 to GBP 18 (EUR 19.9). Gianni Versace: Designer and Style

It all began in Florence in 1976, when Gianni Versace was discovered and supported by a textile dealer in Florence. Until then, Gianni was a nobody in the fashion world, although he had already designed for other brands. After his first show there were divided opinions. There were many critics who considered his work obscene. On the other hand, he not only convinced many people with his daring outfits, but really inspired them. His collection was striking and characterized by pastel colors. The designer was inspired by ancient Greece and the art of Roy Lichtenstein and op-Art. The clothes were often provocative. Bright colours, figure-hugging cuts and a lot of skin were part of it, as well as opulent decorations and extraordinary materials such as metal. He also established himself as a costume designer in the art scene and designed costumes for theatre and ballet performances. He was brave and provoked with his designs but was able to stand out from the other designers. His designs reflected the upsetting family history. Gianni Versace was the first designer to put jeans on the catwalk and caused a stir.

After Gianni was shot in front of his villa, Donatella Versace became the head designer. She holds the image of the label. Their designs are also special, courageous and eye-catching. She personally dresses stars like Jennifer Loopez and Lad Gaga with her designs. Lady Gaga even wrote the song “Donatella” for Versace. From 2009 to 2012 the designer Christoph Kane supported the Versace line Versus. He was discovered by Donatella and she wanted to promote his talent. After the cooperation both were very thankful for the time and the collected experiences.

The Fashion Show 2018

Brand new is the series American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace. The series is also about family life, but above all about the brutal murder of the designer.
