There’s more to a healthy fitness routine than just discipline and stubbornly sticking to it: To stay on the ball in the long term, it is equally important to listen to your body and understand what it needs at any given time. Sometimes this means skipping training and getting moving in other ways, such as a simple walk. Did you know that just 10,000 steps a day burns around 400 calories? If you enjoy a walk more in company, then simply grab your best friend and walk together. Sophie is also up for a long walk, she tells us in the interview

Weight loss & healthy eating with Cycling Sophie

Cycling Sophie is, as the name suggests, an expert when it comes to indoor cycling, and she inspires her viewers with new workouts every week on her YouTube channel. In an interview, the fitness guru gave us an insight into her fitness journey – among other things, she tells us about her weight loss of over 30 kg and tells us what she likes to snack on before a workout. Sophie knows that sport alone doesn’t help you achieve your dream weight, but that there’s more to it than that.

Cycling Sophie YouTube

Cycling Sophie Instagram

No motivation? No reason for compulsion

FIV: Hi Sophie, you regularly provide us with great workouts on your channel, how do you actually do it on days when you don’t feel like it?

Sophie: If I really don’t feel like exercising at all, I first ask myself whether it’s my head or whether there’s a physical reason. If it’s my head, then I remember the feeling after training, in the shower, and that feeling pushes me for the first 10 minutes and then my endorphins take over and off I go.

However, if there is a physical reason (too little or poor sleep, digestive problems or my period), then I have learned to listen to my body. Instead of forcing myself to do something during training, I take my headphones and go for a long walk, whatever the weather. My health has become extremely important to me. Especially because of my road accident at the beginning of 2018.

Pamela Reif’s snacks: the perfect pre-workout bar

FIV: Do you treat yourself to a small snack before training, if so, what do you eat?

Sophie: Actually the Chunky White Chocolate Oatbar from Pamela and if it’s a short work-out then it’s either a handful of blueberries with almonds or the Crunchy Protein Bar from Pamela.

Exercise alone does not lead to weight loss

FIV: Is there a fitness myth that you would like to debunk?

Sophie: Oh yes, definitely. And that is that sport per se leads to weight loss. I speak from my own experience, having lost almost 30 kilos in my youth. The most important thing that athletes with a specific goal need to consider is that only an adapted diet (and yes, I know this is a huge area and super individual) leads to a loss of fat mass, for example. Muscle mass can also only be built up with an adapted diet. In any case, I recommend professional support if you find it too much for yourself and can no longer see the wood for the trees.

Well-being is more important than weight!

FIV: Fitness 101-Could you summarize 3 valuable tips for our readers to help them reach their goals?

Sophie: The journey is the reward.

Banish your scales. Weight is not as important as your body image and that is not reflected in any number.

Do not expect results overnight.

FIV: After so much experience, you must already have some impressive results. What has been your biggest fitness success so far?

My fitness and my performance have nothing to do with my appearance

Sophie: My first thought was immediately my weight loss in my youth or my cycling races as a member of the German national youth team. But when I think about it again, it’s probably more of an emotional ‘fitness success’. And it’s this: I’ve learned and accepted that my fitness and performance have nothing to do with my appearance. I am super capable and fit, EVEN if my skin isn’t the tightest due to weight loss. It’s been a long road, but self-acceptance is the most emotionally valuable thing I’ve achieved in the last few years.

FIV: You’ve made an essential statement! One last question: What is your favorite exercise in the gym?

Sophie: That’s easy – the leg press – without it I probably wouldn’t be able to master my hills and sprints on the bike as well.

FIV: Thank you Sophie for your insight. We don’t want to keep you any longer and wish you continued success!

You can spend the night in the untouched nature of Norway, in the mountains or at the fjord. Here you can find tips, routes and places for camping in Norway and watch the first videos.

Starry skies, cold nights and northern lights

You want to experience the natural spectacles of the country in the far north of Europe? The best way to do that is a camping vacation. You can swim in glassy glacial lakes, marvel at ancient forests and rocks, and maybe even see the northern lights. Camping is a big word for many people. And in any case, this vacation should be well planned. So you can plan or if you just want to get a taste of camping, you will find many great tips for equipment, super beautiful routes and places.

Roof tent recommendation: Camper rated

Want an expert opinion on the roof tent? Here you can find the video of a passionate camper who has discovered the advantages of a roof tent for himself and has many great tips for traveling with a roof tent in store. More tips for campers in Norway can be found here (external): Camping Norway.

Freedom by car: roof tent camping

You have everything planned for the perfect camping vacation, only the accommodation is missing? How about a roof tent? Roof tents are the new way to camp, because they combine all the advantages of classic tents and caravans. They are just as space-saving as classic tents and since they can be mounted on any car roof, you also have more storage space in the car.

Due to the thoughtful construction of many roof tents, they hold bombproof on the roof even in difficult terrain. So you won’t get hit by flying tarps and tent poles in the car.

Of course, good roof tents are also absolutely rainproof. In bad weather, the dismantling is also super easy. While you do not have to fold so wet and dirty tent tarpaulins, most models for the car roof can be easily folded. This keeps you clean and dry!

Of course, you’ll notice the extra weight on the roof when driving, but it’s much lighter and more terrain resistant than a camper, and you won’t have to awkwardly squeeze the tent into the trunk.

Roof tent for the roof of the car

Firm grip on difficult terrain

Easy dismantling

BUT: Weight on the car roof is noticeable

FOR: more space in the car

Never heard of a roof tent?

Camping route: mountain, hiking & camping

Once you have familiarized yourself with your roof tent, you are ready to go! A possible route would be from Dovrefjell over the picturesque Geiranger to the breathtaking Jotunheimen.

Experiences hiking: Fishing, Starry Sky & Mountains

The perfect way to prepare for the night after a hike through the overgrown mountainsides is to pitch your tent. You are allowed to do this anywhere in Norway as long as you don’t damage the existing nature. When you have put all the pegs into the soft mossy ground, it is time for a tasty meal from the gas stove. For this it is worth trying fishing in the crystal clear rivers.

With a full stomach, you can then spend the night under the clear starry sky. In the Norwegian wilderness you have no light pollution like in big cities, so you can look at the stars through the skylight of your tent.

Continue through romantic villages of wooden huts, past rushing waterfalls, over slippery rocks, through the stream and up to the top of the mountains to see you meandering through Jotunheimen rivers. Jotunheimen has the highest mountains in Norway and therefore many famous hiking trails.

Quick overview:

Road trip through Norway: tips, route & places

This vacation show you the two young men in the video and give besides the beautiful nature shots helpful tips about camping in Norway and the route. They are both experienced campers, as they have already set out several times to explore a part of Norway.

Top 10 Places: Senja, Lofoten & Co.

You don’t want to plan a fixed route at all, but rather get to know the top 10 places in Norway?

Then you can check out the list of places below:

Varangerhalvøya – Senja – Lofoten

We start high in the north with Varangerhalvøya, a region with fjord and unique glacier rocks. Also far north is Senja, an island popular for hiking vacations in the high mountains above the sea. If you’re lucky, you can spot whales in the water there. Also by the sea is the Lofoten archipelago, where you can marvel at brilliant northern lights. Or you can walk across the small bridges that connect the inhabited islands. There is also a nice place for a snack in the lovely fishing villages.

This is how picturesque the Lofoten Islands look:

Helgeland – Femundsmarka National Park

Have you ever seen black rocks? You can find them in the Helgeland region a bit further south. Because of its enchanting landscape, it used to play a role in sagas and fairy tales. Nowadays it is a popular place for cycling or kayaking. A little further south is Femundsmarka National Park, a popular destination for camping vacations by the lake. In this there are even reindeer to marvel at.

Cute reindeer:

Loenvatnet – Nærøyfjorden – Valdres

Another insider tip for swimming in crystal clear glacier water is Lake Loenvatnet. Further south, you can continue your tour with Nærøyfjorden. This is a classic fjord on sunlit mountainsides, with a ferry as its attraction. About three hours away to the east, you’ll find the Valdres area. This is worth it for a breathtaking view of a landscape of forested valleys and sparkling lakes.

This is what awaits you in Valdres:

Hardanger – Jettegrytene i Nissedal

Also famous for its unique nature is the Hardanger region. Since a lot of fruit is grown here, springtime conjures up famous fields of flowers on the landscape. In the far south, it’s time for another insider tip: Jettegrytene i Nissedal. This one is worth seeing for the specially shaped rocks in the dried riverbed.

This is the picturesque landscape at Jettegrytene i Nissedal:

Checklist: Beach at the Baltic Sea

These 5 places you must have seen! The Baltic Sea offers a lot of beaches. We show you the best beaches for a beautiful and relaxing vacation at the Baltic Sea.

Warnemünde beach: promenade with sea view

Warnemünde beach in Rostock is one of the most beautiful beaches on the Baltic Sea. The beach has a beautiful view of the sea and a great promenade. The beach is very wide and has fine light sand. There are a lot of beach chairs here, so there is enough space for everyone even on hot summer days. The dunes hide the promenade and make the hotels appear in the background. It goes shallow into the sea. Ideal for children and perfect for family vacation.

Seebrücke Kellenhusen: Switch off from everyday stress

If you want to switch off from everyday life, you should spend your vacation in Kellenhusen. The beach in Kellenhusen is very popular because of the pier and the various platforms that lead directly to the water. Kellenhusen is really worth a visit or vacation. Because there you can find a camping site, which is not far from the promenade. There are also enough offers for wellness, gastronomy and apartments in Kellenhusen.

The pier in Niendorf is super suitable for a family vacation, because it is quite close to nature. For the children there is a small children’s play structure. At the bridgehead you have an outstanding view over the sea. But also especially to the Brodtner shore and over the beach promenade. In addition, you can enjoy the most beautiful sunsets here.

Beach Grömitz: Perfect as a diving vacation

The beach in Grömitz is very wide and long. There is a beautiful pier where you can go diving. On the promenade are many stores to stroll. I would recommend this place to everyone. Families feel very comfortable here. There is a children’s playground and youth area, as well as a beach volleyball field. For dog owners there is also a dog beach.

Insider Tip: Sunken City & New Year’s Swim

You want to experience something new and are looking for adventure? Then we have the absolute insider tips at the Edersee for you. Whether sunken villages or the custom of jumping into the cold water for the New Year. Here you can find out everything about the best and most secret sights and attractions at and in the Edersee.

Atlantis in the Edersee: the sunken villages

One may hardly believe it, but under the Edersee a total of three villages have disappeared, which, when the water level is low, come back to the surface and can be hiked. How the whole thing came about is very simple. More than 100 years ago the Eder dam was built for navigation and the villages Asel, Berich and Bringhausen had to move their location upwards. Therefore they disappeared in the lake after the construction and are now considered as Atlantis of the Edersee. To visit them there are two possibilities. Either you dive under the lake and examine the mysterious world under water or you wait until the water level sinks and the cities appear. If the latter is the case, you can even cross the lake on the sunken bridge.
