Men’s fashion has long been more than just a dress code – it is a strategic tool. A conscious choice of clothing style signals personality, attitude and professional competence. In this guide: Why men are investing more in fashion today, how style accelerates careers, what has shaped men’s fashion historically – and which brands make the difference.

Why men’s fashion is more important today than ever before

Social media has changed the game. People who used to only be seen in the office are now permanently visible on LinkedIn, Instagram and in video calls. The visual first impression counts just as much as professional expertise. Studies prove it: Well-dressed men are perceived as more competent, reliable and stronger leaders – even before they have said a word. Clothing is visual communication.

It’s not about luxury for luxury’s sake. A structured outfit that suits your personality is more effective than an expensive label without a concept. If you know your own fashion style and implement it consistently, you will make better decisions every day when dressing – and save time, money and energy.

Luxury brands, social trends and new masculinity

The fashion world reflects social developments like no other industry. What used to be reserved for women – conscious shopping, style advice, fashion as an expression of identity – now also applies to the world of men. This can be seen in the collections at Fashion Weeks around the world. <hiddenlink href="https://fivmagazine.de/fashion-week-herren-mode-tragbare-trends-was-maenner-wirklich-tragen/" data-type="post" data-origin="de" data-origin-url="/?p=228883">Men’s fashion trends from Fashion Week</hiddenlink> are now wearable and close to everyday life: trench coats, structured pants, clean layering looks.

Luxury brands are specifically catering to this change. They are focusing on new identities, queer chic and a return to classic cuts – depending on the target group. What they all have in common is a clear brand profile. PME Legend stands for masculine lifestyle style: timeless, suitable for everyday wear, with military and outdoor influences. A brand for men who value quality over hype.

Fun fact: PME Legend was founded in the Netherlands in 1988. The name stands for “Pall Mall Endeavor” – inspired by military expeditions. Today, the brand is available in over 20 countries.

Clothing as a career strategy

A well thought-out dress style is one of the most underestimated career measures. The first impression at a job interview, the outfit at a customer pitch, the appearance at a conference – all these things influence how others think about your competence and leadership potential. Clothing is the silent language before the interview.

There is the right strategy for every context:

Business formal: structured slim-fit blazer, dark chinos or suit trousers

Business casual: High-quality jeans (e.g. PME Legend jeans), plain shirt or polo

Leisure: layering looks with quality basics, well-fitting shorts for men for the summer

Event: statement piece over a basic outfit, good shoes as an upgrade

Current inspiration is provided by successful men’s models and their looks, for example, which show how different men’s fashion can look without having to be expensive.

The historical roots of men’s fashion

What men wear as a matter of course today has its origins in the Victorian era of the 19th century. With the Industrial Revolution, the suit spread as a symbol of reliability, status and professional seriousness. Shirt, tie and buttoned-up jacket were considered the uniform of the modern man.

But fashion evolved in waves. The austerity of the post-war years was followed by the looseness of the 1960s and 70s, the extravagance of the 80s and the grunge understatement of the 90s. Style breaks were never mistakes – they were statements. Today, we are experiencing a return to quality: less trend-hopping, more capsule wardrobe and conscious brand selection.

Nostalgia plays a major role here. Y2K trends are back, military looks are being translated into contemporary streetwear and French chic shows how a few high-quality pieces can define a complete look.

Tip: Invest in three basic pieces that work in five combinations each: a pair of dark jeans, a neutral blazer and a classic shirt. You’ll be perfectly equipped for 80% of all occasions.

Sportswear, casual & the new freedom of menswear

Today, elegant fashion and casual wear no longer exist as opposites, but complement each other. Sportswear influences can be found in business looks, luxury brands collaborate with streetwear brands and the hoodie has long since become socially acceptable. Today, caring for hoodies and styling them correctly is as much a part of fashion expertise as tying a tie.

The fit is important here. Nothing determines the overall impression as much as the fit of a garment. A well-fitting trouser cut turns an inexpensive outfit into a convincing look. Clothes that are too loose or too tight detract from the overall look, no matter how expensive the label is.

Accessories sharpen the final look: matching statement sunglasses or a good watch set the final accent without overdoing it. Less really is more here.

Sustainable brands: quality beats quantity

Fast fashion costs more in the long term – due to frequent replacement purchases, poorer workmanship and the ecological footprint. A growing proportion of men are therefore consciously opting for brands that stand for longevity. This saves money, conserves resources and results in a more coherent clothing style.

Today, those who focus on sustainability will find brands that combine style and responsibility. Labels such as Haderlump show what sustainable design looks like at Berlin Fashion Week. Established brands are also rethinking their production chains. Berlin Fashion Week 2025 has proven this: The boundaries between sustainable and aesthetically pleasing are becoming increasingly blurred.

Recommendation: Buy less often, but better. Two high-quality jeans in different washes can replace five cheap ones. Do a quality check: seams, fabric weight, finish of pockets and buttons – they may or may not hold up.

Frequently asked questions

How important is menswear for your career?

Very important. Studies show that clothing directly influences perceived competence, reliability and leadership strength. A conscious clothing style is an underestimated career measure that can be implemented without a large budget.

Which brands stand for high-quality men’s style?

Brands such as PME Legend combine masculine design with everyday practicality and durability. They work equally well for leisure and business casual.

What is part of the basic wardrobe for men?

Dark jeans, structured blazer, neutral chinos, two quality shirts and a good sweater. This covers 80% of all occasions. Add good shoes and a seasonal statement piece and your wardrobe is complete.

How do I combine men’s shorts with style?

High-quality men’s shorts in calm colors (navy, khaki, black) go well with a polo, linen shirt or a clean-cut T-shirt. Shoes: loafers or clean sneakers instead of flip-flops. Length: above the knee is more timeless.

What is the difference between business casual and smart casual?

Business casual allows high-quality jeans and structured shirts, but no tracksuits. Smart casual is one step more casual: combines fashionable pieces with quality principles without following a dress code.

Julia Sidi Atman is an inspiring young business woman, influencer, model and artist. At the age of just 24, Julia has just released her very first Remedy perfume which she imagined in Paris and designed on the French Riviera with the help of perfume experts. After her Miss France adventure and her incredible journey on the Beijing Express, Julia is today a fighter who makes her dreams come true! This is the message she regularly shares on her Instagram account: “The best moment is when you fight to make your dream come true”.

FIV Magazine is pleased to present you its exclusive interview with Julia Sidi Atman on her career path, her first Remède fragrance, her 5 tips to become a real Business woman and her autumn-winter 2020-2021 fashion trends.

Julia Sidi Atman – Entrepreneur, model and influencer

FIV: Hello Julia! How are you doing? Can you tell us about your world and your career path?

Julia: I’m fine thank you I hope you are too!

Today I am an entrepreneur, model and influencer. I participated in the Miss France election 3 years ago as Miss French Riviera and I arrived in the semi-finals of the Beijing Express adventure last year.

Remède – Julia Sidi Atman’s first unisex perfume

FIV: On October 24th, you launched your very first Remedy fragrance. Congratulations on this great project! How did you get the urge to embark on this entrepreneurial adventure? Can you tell us about Remède and your future projects?

Julia: I’ve always dreamed of creating my own perfume. But it was an unattainable dream for several years until I decided to take it seriously. I created “Remède” after a love break-up, I had to focus on something other than my heartache. Remedy is aptly named because it was and still is mine. I try to share its energy and power with as many people as possible.

As for my future projects, I am working on the new fragrance campaign, something more personal that will be released in January 2021.

5 tips on how to become a Business woman

FIV: What are your 5 tips for becoming a business woman?

Julia :

My first piece of advice is to choose your surroundings carefully. For the creation of Remède, I have surrounded myself only with kind and creative people.

My second piece of advice is to be passionate about your project, the goal is for you to be happy to get up in the morning and soothed before going to bed at night.

The third piece of advice is to stay positive as much as possible. Every problem has a solution even when you think you have reached the end, I swear you can still try and find something better. Never really give up.

The fourth council, remains curious about everything, all the time. Take an interest, get informed, meet people who are in the environment you are in, know that you always have new things to learn and discover. To improve what you already have.

And the last piece of advice, the fifth one which is the most important for me, be creative. You have to have imagination, take what there is to take from everything, take inspiration from everything, from your surroundings, from your environment. Even use evil to transform it into something positive. Use your imagination and your child’s soul.

Artistic inspirations with Julia Sidi Atman

FIV: Julia, in addition to being a business woman, you are a real artist! Where does this passion for painting come from? Which artist inspires you the most?

Julia: Before participating in Miss France, I was in art school. I’ve always been passionate about it. My favourite artist is Henri Matisse and not only because he lived on the French Riviera, I love his colourful universe. Painting soothes me, when I’m stressed or when I feel like I’m everywhere at once, it allows me to concentrate and be in my bubble.

Fashion trends Autumn-Winter 2020-2021

FIV: What are your MUST-HAVE Fashion for this Autumn-Winter 2020 season?

Julia: For this season, my must-have is a warm hoodie and why break it up with a blazer jacket to give it a more assertive style.

FIV: What did the Miss France adventure bring you?

Julia: The Miss France adventure changed my life so I would never say anything bad about it. It made me realise that I had the abilities and that anything is possible even if being judged on my looks was new to me. But it’s forging. I still preferred my Beijing express adventure which was more authentic.

FIV: Can you share with us your sports routine to keep in shape and have a model figure?

Julia: To be totally honest with you, I don’t do any sport, I would have to start haha!

Thank you FIV Magazine for your questions!

Charlotte Pirroni is an incredible content creator, model and mother living in Marseille. Her atypical career path and her title of 2nd Dauphine of Miss France 2015 have enabled her to start a successful career as an influencer. With more than 450K followers on Instagram, Charlotte never ceases to seduce French women with her kindness and communicative smile. FIV Magazine is delighted to present her exclusive interview with Charlotte Pirroni on her daily life, her autumn-winter 2020 trends, her beauty secrets and her advice on self-confidence.

Charlotte Pirroni – Influencer, model and mommy

FIV: Hello Charlotte! How are you? Can you introduce yourself in a few words please

Charlotte : Hello, I’m very well thank you and you ?

I am delighted to meet you and thank you for your interest. My name is Charlotte Pirroni, I am 27 years old and I live in Marseille in the South of France. I am an influencer, I am lucky to be followed on Instagram by 453k people, and I am delighted to be able to live from my passion, that of creating content on a daily basis in order to share it with my community and make them discover brands, products, novelties… I am also a young mother, of a little boy called Alessio who is just 9 months old.

FIV: What’s your Morning routine?

Charlotte: My days are much busier since I became a mother. I am lucky to be able to be with my son on a daily basis, and therefore to see him grow up. So I have had to become very organised so that I can enjoy him while working from home. Working from home is both an advantage and a disadvantage. I explain, it’s a chance to be at home, in his comfort and with his bearings to work, but on the other hand, my son is very demanding and I’m often torn between work and being there for him. That’s why I had to divide up my days very precisely. But I’m lucky to be able to combine the two on a daily basis. Love and passion combined on a daily basis, nothing could be more motivating. When I get up, I take care of my son, prepare myself and dedicate my morning to my son every morning. And in the afternoon, I work and create my content, I also try a lot to get ahead with my work, I create everything by myself.

Tips to keep smiling during the lockdown

FIV: How do you always smile and keep your spirits up during the lockdown?

Charlotte : Thank you, that’s very kind! Given the current situation and atmosphere, and in normal times too, I assume that a smile doesn’t cost anything, the positive brings the positive, and a smile and good vibes can perhaps change (I hope) the day of the people who follow me and who may be going through a bad period.

FIV: What’s your favourite music at the moment?

Charlotte : My favourite music is TADOW from MASEGO & FKJ. It is both soft and rhythmic. It relaxes and motivates me at the same time. It also allows me to escape. If I close my eyes, I can quickly imagine myself under the coconut trees in Mauritius.

Autumn-Winter 2020 fashion trends

FIV: What are your favourite fashion trends for this fall-winter 2020?

Charlotte: I would say my favourite fashion trends for this season are :

FIV: You have beautiful hair! What’s your secret?

Charlotte : Thank you for this kind compliment. It is particularly touching for me because after my delivery I lost a lot of hair and it was quite hard. For a woman, no matter what you think, hair is important. It’s not just a question of looks, it also affects your morale. I use different haircare lines from different brands, I try to change regularly and go to brands that care about the composition of their products (hellobody, Pomelo…) And finally, I’ve been living again since I discovered the Dyson Air Wrap that makes my hair so soft and shiny. It’s also much less damaging to hair than a regular iron.

Self-confidence with Charlotte Pirroni

FIV : As a Model, do you have any advice to give to women who lack self-confidence ?

Charlotte: As a model, what I can say to all women is that they are beautiful the way they are. I’ve lived very delicate moments in this environment, where some clients can talk openly in front of us about our physique, a detail that could be disturbing to highlight certain products, as if they were talking about an object. And very often, they don’t realise it because they are fully committed to their objectives, stressed by the result of the campaign or otherwise. Or they will talk about a physical detail that we hadn’t even noticed and that we’ve been noticing ever since, and which can quickly become a complex. But I understood as I grew up that you can’t please everyone, otherwise you would please everyone. My goal is to be the best version of myself so that I feel good in my head, in my body. I’m talking to you about that, even if at the moment I still have a lot of complexes, when I look at myself in the mirror, I’m not satisfied and I’m very demanding, which doesn’t help.

Everybody has a complex or complexes, it’s human and nobody is perfect, and I’m far from it but I don’t care. That’s the goal I try to give myself every day and that helps me little by little to have self-confidence. I try to accept my complexes, to learn to live with them and love them. I think that the most important thing is to enjoy yourself first, that’s the most important thing, and confidence will inevitably follow. It’s all in the head.

Fashion Influencer – Justyna Czerniak is an incredible blogger, influencer and mother from Poland who is passionate about fashion. Her minimalistic, elegant and confident fashion looks allow Justyna to be part of the best street style from Copenhagen Fashion Week. FIV Magazine is delighted to present you an exclusive interview with Justyna Czerniak about fashion, travel, lifestyle and Copenhagen Fashion Week.

FIV: How would you describe your universe and your style for people who don’t know you yet?

Justyna: My name is Justyna Czerniak. On my Instagram blog I proudly wrote that I am a mother and wife and passionately a blogger and an influencer.

I try to perform each of these functions “full-time” in the way that my relatives do not feel that my passion, which is fashion, takes me too much away from them. I am the mother of 6-year-old Pola who is fascinated by my actions and tries to participate in them and I have a wonderful husband who supports me at every step.

I have always been fascinated by the world of fashion, art and music. Since I can remember, I have been singing and drawing and even though I graduated in economics I can honestly admit that the world of tough business does not attract me at all. Running a blog is a fascinating fashion adventure for me, which I couldn’t possibly give up today. Contact with the followers is driving me incredibly! Every day I learn fashion, watch the trends and try to communicate to my audience everything that fascinates me at the moment. I don’t want to say any clichés about feeling wonderful if through my daily work on the blog I help someone discover their style… but it’s true, that’s what makes me feel wonderful! It’s just nice to know that your work was appreciated by someone or that someone took advantage of what you do.

If I were to define my style in a few words… A minimalistic, elegant, conscious and confident woman who is not afraid to go crazy sometimes.

I have a lot of fun with fashion. I love everything that is connected with it and combining styles comes easily to me. Variety in fashion is beautiful but what we should learn is moderation. My beloved Coco Chanel used to say that “simplicity is the key to true elegance.”

Instagram Feed – Secrets for Photo shoots

FIV: Your Instagram feed is wonderful. What is your secret? Can you tell us about your favorite camera equipment for photo shoots?

Justyna: The creation of my feed is not accompanied by any secrets! I use a FijiFilm X-T4 camera but I only have one lens (80-200) for it. The camera helps me cope with more difficult lighting conditions but I use my iphone 11 just as often. I’m very impatient and I like to see the final result of the session right away on the phone. My feed also includes, of course, pictures of professional street photographers with whom I have the pleasure of working during the fashion weeks in Copenhagen and Paris. I have been working on the formula of my feed for a long time. I used to use filters before – nowadays I don’t do it anymore; I only rely on natural colours and light. I’m well aware of content I want to communicate on my blog and I try to make sure that both the content and the feed that expresses it are consistent and minimalist.

Summer 2020 – Fashion trends

FIV: You are always looking for new trends. What is your ultimate it-bag for this summer 2020?

Justyna: Well, as Americans say, it’s my last “baby in da house” or yellow “The chain pouch” from Bottega Veneta. I bought it recently, making myself a gift for the next five birthdays ahead.

FIV: As a fashion influencer, can you describe your favorite outfit for this summer 2020?

Justyna: Outfit for this summer? This is definitely a summer dress “SAUDADE” designed by Simon Porte Jacquemus! I met Simon at the Paris Fashion Week in 2019 when I was on the backstage of his show. It was then when I saw that he is an extraordinary artist who designs beyond the existing trends. He released miniature handbags that girls all over the world went crazy about. When I saw his latest project in the form of a summer dress, I knew it was exactly what I was looking for. A dress that combines delicacy, elegance and femininity.

The second favourite summer outfit but casual is the top of the Toteme brand and shorts from The Frankie Shop. I love this set combined with Bottega Veneta flip flops and my new chain pouch.

Copenhagen Fashion Week with Justyna Czerniak

FIV: You are used to participate to the Copenhagen Fashion Week which is the “new style capital”. Who are your 3 favorite designers from Copenhagen? And what do you like the most during Fashion Weeks?

Justyna: I love the fashion from Copenhagen! It is unique and has the originality that cannot be mistaken for creations from Paris or New York. I like the “Copenhagen” style very much. I am blonde, I often hear that I look like “Scandi girl”. Who knows, maybe I have a bit of Scandinavian blood in me, that’s why I love this style! My “TOP 3” for the Copenhagen brands are MUNTHE, BAUM and PFERDGARTEN and Birgitte Herskind. Everyone who comes to Copenhagen during Fashion Week will confirm my words – the unforgettable atmosphere of this event is created by people! Great people from all over the world, friendly, open to fashion and art. I love endless conversations before and after the show! This is what I miss the most when the great fashion show ends and you have to go home.

FIV: Your fashion life allow you to discover the latest trendy places. You are so lucky. Where are your favorite fashion places located?

Justyna: My favourite fashion spots are Copenhagen and Paris. I know these cities well, I feel safe there and have many friends I love spending time with. I also appreciate London, I lived there for a few years but unfortunately I find it hard to feel the atmosphere similar to the one in Copenhagen and Paris.

Travel – Best trip so far & Top 3 essentials to pack when traveling in summer

FIV: You’re used to travel in beautiful places. What was your best trip so far and where do you want to go again?

Justyna: I love to explore new places! So far I have the most pleasant memories of my trip to Malta. We rented a room in a private, historic house in Valletta (the capital city) with a tiny balcony from which there was a wonderful view of the sea. The history of the city dates back to the 16th century. Valletta is a real architectural gem! Cobbled streets, tiny wine bars, historic places… Yes, I liked the atmosphere very much!

When I wonder where I would like to return to, I realize that it would be a waste of time to return. What I mean is I’d rather discover new places. I dream of traveling to Japan and seeing it from the side which cannot be seen by those who follow the main tourist trails.

FIV: As a fashion traveler, what are your Top 3 essentials to pack when traveling in summer?

Justyna: If I travel a long way, I choose a tracksuit for comfort. I add sunglasses and a bag. In my opinion, it was these two accessories that wrote the history of modern fashion!

Wonderful and amazing women from London, Laura Blair is one of the incredible influencer to follow on Instagram. She is used to give precious tips and advices about beauty and to share outstanding outfits and fashion haul everyday. She works with a lot of international fashion and beauty brands like Dior, Lancôme, L’Oréal, Guess, Marc Jacobs or Nivea. FIV Team has prepared an exclusive Interview with Laura Blair about fashion, beauty and travel for you!

Fashion & Beauty Influencer Laura Blair: Sucess Story of a Fashionista

FIV: Hi Laura! How are you? Has anyone ever told you that you look like Victoria Beckham? You’re an outstanding fashion and beauty influencer with more than 180K followers on Instagram. When did you start blogging and what was your motivation for getting started?

Laura: I started blogging properly in 2016. I say properly as prior to this I had an Instagram account where I just shared pictures I loved – like a Pinterest board with my friends. I then started taking pictures of my outfits on my lunch break and then youtube videos. So it was a staggered process but overall it’s taken me approximately four years to get to the stage I’m at now. There was no real motivation at the start, it was just something that I loved to do and then it turned into a career. I just loved every aspect of it so I just found myself working on it every hour of every day. Regarding Victoria Beckham – thank you as I absolutely love her! I think she really understands what women want as they mature. You will find most of her clothes are suitable for all ages and that’s definitely something I try to create on my channels too as my audience is a slightly older demographic for social media.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CDoucA_DZVa/

FIV: You have an exceptionally unique style. Where did you get your sense of fashion?

Laura: I first fell in love with fashion at school. There were a number of occasions when I got sent home because my outfit was too crazy for the smart dress code – let’s just say I liked to take the scissors to my suits. I created a whole fashion line for my A-level art and got a scholarship for the fashion design course at London College of Fashion (which I actually turned down). I used to go round my local charity shops as a teen and just find gems to create different styles. I loved scrolling through the internet for celebrity pap shots to see what they were wearing for inspiration, which back then (the noughties) was quite a difficult task! I’ve just always absorbed fashion from such a young age that what I do now is so ingrained into my life that it comes very naturally to me.

5 favourite items of clothing for this Summer 2020

FIV: You are used to share amazing haul videos with your followers. What is your 5 favourite items of clothing for this summer 2020?

Laura: Well this Summer I’d have to say my slippers and my pajamas as I’ve spent the best part of four months in bed struggling with Corona. Now that I’m finally getting my strength back I’d have to say I love loafers – I think for the first time ever I’m opting for flats over heels. A pair of straight leg denim jeans – they’re that perfect mix of comfy and smart. You will never see me without a straw fedora on my head – Zara has a great one at the moment. I’ve actually spent most of my days in a silk kimono from One Hundred Stars for just lounging around my flat when it’s hot. Lastly I’ve invested in core pieces that will last me a lifetime rather than fast fashion during this time – my favourite being a Prada tote bag big enough to fit everything in. I think I’ve definitely had a shift in mindset toward fashion during the pandemic and want to invest more in quality pieces over quantity. I really want to help promote recycling outfits and wearing them more than once as it’s so easy with social media to get sucked into wanting a new outfit all the time.

Fashion Travel: Tips, Crush city & Top essentials to pack when travelling

FIV: You’re trying to travel the world in stilettos and you’ve already lived in the US, Beirut, Cannes and London. What is your “crush city” in the world and what do you love to do there?

Laura: Beirut will always have such a special place in my heart. It’s very misunderstood in the western world and is honestly the most incredible place I’ve ever been. I was only meant to go for a few months and just kept extending my stay, it was so amazing and never what I imagined in a million years. It breaks my heart that the explosion recently has destroyed most of the city – my old flat was actually minutes away from the incident.

The Lebenese people have such a wonderful spirit about them – so welcoming with a great outlook on life. I find in England we are very work orientated and the pace of life is so fast especially in London that sometimes we forget to live. Beirut has the most amazing night life with arena style clubs that have open air fireworks every night. In the day the beach clubs are beautiful looking out over the Mediterranean sea. At the weekend you can ski in the mountains and have the whole apres ski experience then be on the beach again a few hours later. Parts feel similar to Dubai and then other parts you can really see the ruins from the war and the poverty, but the one thing that really makes Beirut special is the people. It was so family orientated and people you would meet once would invite you to their family Sunday dinner and just open up their homes to you. It gave me a whole new outlook on life after I left.

FIV: As a fashion traveller, what is your Top 5 essentials to pack when travelling?

Laura: I plan my outfits beforehand so I know exactly what I’m wearing each day. I find this so useful to really not overpack and then I store the photos on my phone to refer to later. La Roche Posay sunscreen is a must – it’s great for sensitive skin like mine. Both a casual and a smart shoe no matter what the style of holiday as you just never know! St Tropez face mist is a good one too as it gives you such a natural looking glow if you don’t tan much. I always like to travel in a gym kit as I find the best way to beat the jet lag is working out even if it’s gentle.

Beauty tips: Skincare Routine & Summer make-up with Laura Blair

FIV: You are used to work with beauty brands like Dior, Marc Jacobs, Lancôme, L’Oréal and to share some precious tips with your community. Do you have some advices for people who want to have a natural make up this summer? Which product do you recommend?

Laura: I love the Estee Lauder BB Highlighter – it’s great for a quick fix to make you look less tired. It just really brightens up the eye area. I mostly just wear this in the Summer and leave off the foundation.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B_ncJs_D7ow/

FIV: Can you share with us your five steps to achieve our summer skincare?

Laura: People are always so shocked when I share my skincare as I actually don’t have five tips – I don’t do much at all. I really suffered with my skin in my twenties and learnt that the less products I use in my skincare routine the better. I just wash my face with warm water then cold water – when I dropped the face wash my skin just started to glow! I use Simple cleansing wipes to take my makeup off. I know cleansing wipes are frowned upon in the beauty industry but they really work for me as I think I have quite oily skin and it helps keep that at bay. I’m using a moisturizing mask from Codage – a brand that I can’t recommend enough for sensitive skin! A lash serum is something I’ve become a lover of – I was always skeptical but having tried and tested it my eyelashes have never been longer.

Summer Workout exercise tips with Laura Blair

FIV: What are your top workout exercise tips leading into summer?

Laura: Clean eating and weight training. People always seem to crash diet and do excessive cardio before a holiday and it’s so bad for your body and will make it really hard for you to lose weight in the long run.

There are some who would give everything for their passion, all their soul, their strength, their energy. Such is the case of the French rapper Riles who for a few years now has turned his passion into a real profession. It all started for him in his bedroom before he signed to an American label and recorded a track with Snoop Dog the following year. FIV Magazine presents you today this promising artist.

Who is Riles?

Originally from Rouen in Normandy, Rilès is 24 years old and his success is well established. For this French artist who rappes in English, it all started in his bedroom, which he gradually transformed into a studio. Having learnt music on his own, he made a name for himself between 2016 and 2017 during the “Rilesundayz”, publishing one piece of music a week for a year. He recorded several quality clips like Brothers or College Dropout. Very quickly he is spotted by one of the most influential French youtuber of the platform. In 2018, he shoots his video clip “Should I” in Los Angeles and then realizes his first festival tour after his “Jungle tour” in 2017. In 2019, after releasing a few Rilesnippetz and recording his song “Marijuana”, in which Snoop Dog plays, he embarked on a second tour, the Tiger Tour, which he did in two stages. First, he toured internationally in March-April 2019 with opening dates in Cologne and Berlin, then he filled French concert halls in November-December 2019. Finally, on 30 August 2019, he released his album Welcome to the Jungle, marking his arrival in the music industry.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B4p1-vXJ7jS/

An album that solidifies the Rilesundayz label

This album, even if Rilès says that it is “not a happy album” but that he is “happy to have done it”, was a real hit for him. Indeed, his music has set fire to the zeniths of France and is appreciated by an ever-widening audience. Accompanied by his artist-dancer-musician-singer friends, Rilès owes his success to an overflowing energy and his ultra solid team. Together they represent a family and a label: Rilesundayz. This label illustrates itself through its artists including Riles but also with the clothing brand Rilesundayz and the annual Rilessundayz Magazine – the first issue was published in recent months and traces the year 2019 of this label that continues to grow. Never short of ideas, Rilessundayz sees “creativity as the only way out”.

A meticulous artistic work always more meticulous

Rilès is known in the world of music for being a great worker with an eye for detail. Since the release of his album, he has recorded a few clips such as the one of Thank God, released on October 18th, the flagship track of the rapper’s fame with Brothers and Pesetas.

Then comes the clip of Queen, that he shoots in the streets of Marrakech at the cool. Rilès’s clips are each time more original and neater, Against the Clock and Myself N the sea, released before the album are the proof.

Ever since the Rilesundayz, Rilès has had this obsession with time, this race for the watch that is illustrated through an hourglass that he never fails to show on his pieces. In each of the titles of his album Welcome to the Jungle figures the word “run” symbolizing this escape from time. One thing is sure now that the album is out, Rilès will keep running.

The hidden talents of Rilès

The young singer is also gifted in painting, he who used to paint to pay his mother’s debts before. Surprisingly enough, he can paint with both his right and left hands.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B4Ni_ABpOwQ/

Rilès also shares with us his talent as a dancer alongside his friends and dancers from Rilessundayz, Moos, Chris, Bryce and Waseem.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B14Ab3rnytI/

Rilès in 2020

Today, Rilès comes back with an EP, “LVL 36” (extended play) which pleases and which is the fruit of a revival for the Rouen rapper who tries to protect himself from North American pressure who signed with Republic Records in 2018, thus having the same label as Drake or Lil Wayne. This EP features 4 tracks: LET IT GO featuring Canadian rapper Tommy Genesis, FEELINGS, KEEP IT SEXY and GOA. An unexpected EP that underlines the work done by Rilès during his last months in studio and in Los Angeles.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxenQ7WSUxw

With the video clip “GOA”, Rilès shares once again his flow and his talent in front of the camera, always accompanied and supported by his acolytes, Younès, Terrence, Chris, Moos, Elisa, Bryce, Asael, Don Carlito, Johanna, Leone and so many others from the Rouen region.

In any case, the tiger Rilès may roar for a long time to come…

So the clever and skilful rapper continues to make people dream and entertain with his songs. In July 2019, he had already caused a sensation by creating a track based on the horn of his neighbour’s car, Wash my car. A self-derision that amuses more and more fans who hope to see him again soon in concerts and festivals, where he never fails to thrill the crowd!

While waiting for his concerts to resume, the young rapper supports other artists such as the designer Simon Jacquemus during his SS21 fashion show “L’Amour” in the open field.

Dior & Dance – Dior and ballet is a love story that lasts! Mr. Christian Dior was inspired by the world of dance and collaborated with the dancer and choreographer Roland Petit for the costumes of the Ballet Treize Danses in 1947. Maria Grazia Chuiri, Dior’s Artistic Director since 2016, has renewed Mr. Dior’s inspirations through collaborations with prestigious dancers and choreographers.

Today, FIV Magazine presents the collaborations of the House of Dior and dance. A mix of art for the body. When dance and fashion come together, it’s always a successful gamble! Dance has the power to showcase the creations of designers and fashion has the power to sublimate the bodies and movements of dancers.

Dior – Ready-to-wear Fashion Show Spring/Summer 2019

On Monday, September 24, the House of Dior presented its new Spring/Summer 2019 ready-to-wear collection inspired by the world of dance. The fashion show was a true artistic performance where 8 dancers walked around the Dior mannequins and under a rain of rose petals. An exceptional show at the Hippodrome de Longchamps where Maria Grazia Chuiri was inspired by dance as a liberating act.

The artistic director of Dior called on Israeli choreographer Sharon Eyal for the choreography. Sharon Eyal danced with the Batsheva Dance Company before becoming its artistic director and then choreographer in residence. She has created more than 15 pieces for the Batsheva Dance Company and more than 30 choreographies for dance companies around the world such as Half-life for the Royal Swedish Ballet, Feelings and Sara for the Nederland Dance Theatre or Soul Chain for Staatstheater Mainz. The young choreographer has also received many awards such as the prestigious Fedora Van Cleef & Arpels Prize for ballet in 2017.

The Hippodrome de Longchamps was decorated for the occasion with quotes from dancers and choreographers Isadora Duncan, Martha Graham, Pina Baush and Sharon Eyal. Inspiring quotes that can be found in Maria Grazia Chuiri’s creations: long dresses draped in the spirit of Isadora Duncan, dancer’s tulle skirts, feathered jackets, tights, dance suits and the world of Hip Hop with sneakers and other more modern creations. Through this collection, Maria Grazia Chuiri wished to pay homage to Monsieur Dior and to sublimate the modern woman who dances.

Dior x The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma – Ballet Nuit Blanche

From March 29 to April 2, 2019, the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma paid tribute to contemporary music composer Philip Glass with 3 ballets, including Dior’s Nuit Blanche. Maria Grazia Chuiri was keen to collaborate with Eleonora Abbagnato, principal dancer of the Paris Opera and artistic director of the Ballet of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. In fact, they both have an atypical background between Italy and France. Eleonora Abbagnato was chosen to be the principal dancer of the Ballet Nuit Blanche with her German partner Friedemann Vogel, principal dancer of the Stuttgart Ballet. Ballet Dior had 16 dancers and was choreographed by Sébastien Bertaud.

Dior has created sublime costumes with materials that are typical of the aesthetics of classical dance, such as tulle, mesh, light and supple materials. In homage to Monsieur Dior, silk flowers were created in the Atelier Fusion Art in Boulogne. In total, 3200 hours of work, 400 meters of tulle, more than 1500 silk flowers and 8 seamstresses.

Dance lessons with the Dior dancers

During the period of confinement, the House of Dior called upon its dancers and partners, including Germain Louvet, principal dancer of the Opéra National de Paris, Eleonora Abbagnato, principal dancer of the Opéra National de Paris and director of the Ballet of the Teatro dell’ Opera di Roma, Fridemann Vogel, principal dancer of the Stuttgart Ballet in a duet with Sebastien Bertaud. These 3 interludes allowed both dancers and non-dancers to dance with professionals at home. For those who missed this prestigious moment, you can view the Dior dance lessons on Youtube for free.

Maria Grazia Chuiri strengthened Monsieur Dior’s connection with dance and brought dance into the House of Dior’s heritage.

Chanel & Dance – Gabrielle Chanel is a fashion icon who liked to surround herself with artists of her time. Dance is one of the arts that inspired her and to which she contributed a lot. Her need for freedom allowed the dancers to free their bodies and enjoy every movement. The Maison Chanel has continued to write the history of Chanel and dance by collaborating with dance companies around the world.

Gabrielle Chanel and Serge Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes

As a young seamstress, Gabrielle Chanel had great admiration for legendary dancers such as Caryathis and Isadora Duncan. When Serge Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes arrived in Paris at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, she fell under her spell. In Venice, her pianist friend and Polish patron Misia Sert introduces her to the mentor of the Ballets Russes: Serge Diaghilev, who introduces her to dance, music, painting, poetry and fashion. Gabrielle Chanel becomes her friend, her dressmaker and her patron. The latter secretly helps finance the Sacre du Printemps, one of the most famous pieces and revival of the Ballets Russes. In 1924, Gabrielle Chanel created the costumes for the Ballet Le Train Bleu directed by Jean Cocteau and choreographed by Bronislava Nijinska, the sister of the famous dancer Vaslav Nijinski.

After freeing the women from the corsets, Coco Chanel frees the dancers of the Russian ballet from the costumes that hinder them. For the first time in the history of dance, the dancers are dressed in tennis, golf and swimsuits. Gabrielle Chanel maintains a strong link between dance and fashion by creating other ballet costumes in 1929 Apollon Musagète and in 1939 Bacchanale in partnership with Salvador Dali.

I gave back to the women’s body its freedom; this body was sweating in parade clothes, under the laces, the corsets, the underwear, the padding. Gabrielle Chanel

La Maison Chanel will be the first Maison de Couture to make costumes for ballets. Karl Lagarfeld also contributes to the dance and fashion tradition at Chanel by creating the costumes for two ballets by the German choreographer Uwe Scholtz in 1986 and 1987. In 2009, he created the outfit for dancer Elena Glurdjidze for the Swan Lake Ballet at the English National Ballet in London. He also created the costumes for the dancers of the Brahms-Schönberg Quartet at the Paris Opera with the dance director Benjamin Millepied.

Chanel to the Opera

In 2018, La Maison Chanel is associated with the Opening Gala of the Paris Opera’s dance season. The following year, Chanel signed the costumes for the annual gala of the Paris Opera Ballet “Variations” by Serge Lifar. Gabrielle Chanel was a close friend of prima ballerina Serge Lifar who considered her as his artistic godmother. The House of Chanel therefore paid tribute to their friendship by designing the costumes for this ballet under the direction of Virginie Viard and with the contribution of the Lemarié workshop which is part of Chanel’s Métiers d’art. Each of the six prima ballerinas embodied a flower: Rose, Lily, Tulip, Wisteria, Cornflower and Violet.

The House of Chanel also dressed the stars invited for the occasion such as Alma Jodorowsky, Anna Mouglais, Caroline De Maigret and Céline Cassel. Podcasts were also made at the Paris Opera with the prima ballerina Léonore Baulac and the principal dancer Germain Louvet.

Danse Ads Chance Chanel – Take a new chance

The latest ad campaign for Chanel’s perfume Chance was designed by Jean-Paul Goude, a French graphic designer and photographer. It features a giant dance casting with multicolored tutus where four young dancers will be chosen by the jury. In this advertisement, we find the universe of dance placed under the sign of humour, movement and the CHANCE of course!

A Coco Chanel Ballet at the Bolshoi Theatre

Coco Chanel always inspires artists – Last year at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, a dance show dedicated to Gabrielle Chanel was born. The great prima ballerina, Svetlana Zakharova has been performing the role of Gabrielle Chanel at the Bolshoi for more than 16 years.

The choreography is by Youri Possokhov, the music by Ilya Demoutski and the direction by Aleksey Frandetti. It is a show that retraces the highlights of Mademoiselle Chanel’s life. The House of Chanel has even entrusted sketches for the occasion in order to make the costumes in the Bolshoi’s workshops. This artistic masterpiece will be danced at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris on October 24th and 25th, 2020!
